If you don’t like the part where you scraped the stain, you may be able to wrap some thick twine at the base. It may help the cat climb up and an easier place to scratch too :) and it’s relatively quick and easy to do! ☺️👍
Great idea about how to keep the carpet looking nicer. That's the worst thing about every cat tree we've ever had. They really love their skanky-looking trees.
I love this. Just about purchased another carpeted atrocity for the three cats that own us and stumbled upon your video. The office, Larry, your own quips...the humor was a perfect accompaniment to this great tutorial. Subscribed.
What material would you be concerned with? Taz has never bit or licked the tree that we've seen and hasn't acted any weirder than he already did before the tree
@@AverageDadChannel the paint/stain just isnt natural. Also, i know it's important to specially clean/shampoo the carpet scraps you're using, especially if it's 'new' or never been cleaned since being made.
Wow! That’s a hilarious cat tree. I’d suggest if you replace a common carpet fabric with jute rug or something not less organic, eco-friendly and loft-style then you could probably could sell it for $1500+
Hey there! Greetings from Western Australias Southwest. I subscibed because not only did you build an awesome cat tree you are so entertaining to watch. The mistakes made it even better because most people wouldnt admit that they made any at all. I build various structures so can totally relate to this video. Keep the videos coming mate! Youve got a new fan😊
As much as I wish you made a catio or another awsom cat tree, I subscribed because you are a hoot, my kind of sense of humor. Keep making videos you are hilarious
Large limbs [in some cases this is a whole tree] are indeed very heavy, well done getting it level enough to stand on it's own before securing it to a base. I think you did a great job, the colour is nice& natrual it looks very beautiful, fits right in your home & the Cat seems to like it. Though the shelfs look much nicer with the bare wood, I think I prefer the shelf to be fully covered in carpeting, up and under for my two Cats safety when they're rough housing and running around. I have an old fashion box cutter uses a razor, it's very good at sharp smooth cut, better than a stanley type for neat cuts but that electric sicissors is interesting. I've been thinking of doing this since 1990 when on Cape Breton Island, a gorgeous flat stone lined beach there [it's likely very different now, sadly] at the request of an artist, people had been erecting drift wood standing up in to the rocks, it was a gorgeous sight to behold. Due to it's location a lot of wood drifted and beached there. I took one piece back with me, a beautiful silver tone limb about 3 - 4 inch in diameter and almost 6 ft long, sadly I lost it when moving. I really need to do this our indoor cats really need one, the ugly condo and scathing posts have to go they don't serve the cats or the eye. Thanks for sharing. Btw, I find ammonia is excellent at removing stain & paint when used asap if one regrets the colour applied.
@Averagedad How are the lag screws at the bottom of the tree holding up? I feel with the gradual wobble every time she gets on and off the tree it could split the base of the driftwood
Any issues with stability? My tree is currently 7ft tall.. appreciate your work here brotha I’m halfway through mine and your video has been a huge help!
glad it's helped someone! no stability concerns, it wobbles some when Taz jumps on it but I think the plywood and/or the floor isn't 100% flat I threw a basketball at the trunk portion fairly and it didn't budge. I'd start larger if you're concerned as it should be easy enough to cut it smaller and refinish the edges
I want to make something like this and add shelves for decor in my loving room mayne make it a lamp. And make one for our new kittens that showed up on our porch no one wants. But my dogs aint having it so i need to make oir spare room a cat playground
The crap that is out there today isn't even close to the quality and effort you put into this. Most is [at best] particleboard if not cardboard. Still costing over $1K.
great piece of driftwood! love everything structurally, but i have a sense that your cat may have been deterred from using it because of the toxic wood finishes you used
If anyone is questioning if this is peak dad performance, the new balance sneaker should tell you everything you need to know.

You sir, are a legend.
I like how he say’s he isn’t crazy about the cat, but at the of the video he’s petting it and teaching it to shake! You can’t fool us lol
Ha it’s a love/hate relationship.
Teaching him to shake is a sweet party trick though

Hahaha! "The 'ol slap test." Love it!! I've been wanting to do this for so long. Thanks for sharing. It came out really cool. ❤
Thanks!
I need more cat tree videos please.
Looks good! I appreciate the mistakes and lessons along the way.
I'd love to see a build using safe and non-toxic materials. Thanks!
He said he doesn't even like the cat. He's doing this for aesthetic reasons.
😂

Your pretty good at CAD, cardboard aided design

😂 “Not too safe you know!”Great Video mate! Crushing it! So funny watched this video twice already

Great job, looks great, as far as value?...it's worth what it's worth to the person interested in owning it.
Thanks Drew
When we’re done with it we’ll just have to find someone who really really wants to own it
"Doesn't even like their cat that much." *eye roll*
😃 I just hate dumpy looking cat furniture!

Holding up well, only wobble is of the entire thing as I don’t think our floor is flat but no movement between base and trunk that we’ve noticed
@@AverageDadChannel thanks bud my whole family loves you for this 👍🏼 👍🏼

Did you dry out the wood or treat it for any insects?
It say outside drying for a few months, didn’t see any insects in it when I started working with it
Beautiful $500.
Thanks Nanette, I’ll take it.
Rule of thumb, about 3x all material costs, so about $600 on a good day.
No, don't expect to make back the actual labor costs for time put in

Too funny.
How much wood I pay for it? a lot. I give it a month before we see another cat related video. Keep it up!
Love the jokes
Thanks, means a lot from both a hygienist and a dentist
It’s worth 847.34$ cdn
Boo Packers!
How are you going to put a car on it
This will only hold a cat, not a car
@@AverageDadChannel I too am wondering where the car is meant to go on this car tree
