"A corrupted young mind at the age of 13; nigga never had a father and his mom was a fiend" I was so close to falling into this lifestyle 🙏 I've heard this song a bunch of times before, but watching these two listen to it together and reading the comments really helped me to appreciate the people I've had throughout my life. I've perceived many of them as toxic, abusive, currupt, rtc. (and many of them are) but a lot of these people (in a way) saved me from this death cult path I was on.
It happens man my dad didn’t either and he’s dead now not everyone has cool ass fathers that bond with them my dad only paid attention when i played sports
i first heard this song as a kid. i was so shocked. you only need one listen. it stuck with me for the rest of my life. this is one of the best storytelling songs of all time imo. all hip hop fans know it. it's not actually a true story. immortal technique said it's not a true story. the song is about crime and violence within your own community that will ultimately lead to the demise of yourself and hurt the ones you love and like you said, it speaks on how black and latinx/latina women are the most disrespected and abused within their own community. he's preaching that we should treat our people better.
Lol 3% of Latin people recognize that as a real term because it’s antithetical to the language of their culture which is gendered which is why you have latinos and latinas…. No hate just trying to help inform, a lot of Latin people would be either confused of grossly offended by calling them latinx, but besides that your comment is absolutely perfect and people should probably understand the message is real not the story lol
@@spartza1638 Who gives a shit. I dont care for all this PC nonsense either. But im tired of all these petty ass arguments. If you wanna believe that youre a flying unicorn, go ahead…just stay away from me. You wanna say latinx? Cool, but Im not.
“Vivid” really is the best description for this song. Probably the only song I’ve heard in my life where I have photographic scenes drilled into my head for every line. The artist forces you to be sucked into the story.
Bro exactly I have my own music video in my head for this track and it’s stayed the SAME through my multiple times listening to this song. Fucking harrowing
This song literally gives me chills every time I hear it. It kinda hits a sensitive spot which makes me feel uncomfortable but that’s the realism and pure emotion from this song. Immortal technique knew what he was doing with this one. Respect.
I remember hearing this song 10-12 years ago as a teen and I’m like wtf is he talking about. All I can say is he was waaaaay ahead of his time holy shit, everything he wrote in that song is a spitting image of todays society. It’s literally the beginning of the end.
@@xxxxxJAYMILLZxxxxxxx Very true. It’s insane how open and truly authentic he was able to be. No matter how tragic and disturbing. No artist I know of could pull that off. Definitely not back then. Let alone in this day and age.
Law enforcement actually interviewed him after this song because of the “story being true” but immortal didn’t do it. This was a story his cellmate told him when he was in prison. The “I was there with billy…” part is the cellmate wrapping up the story he told IT.
Theres a book called "son of evil street" by victor torres. Tells this story. Book is hella hard to find! Ive tried so hard to find the book with no success but thats where the story comes from
@@stefan5430 about 160 pages. I asked her about the book again a few days ago and the book is pretty much the life story of a former gangster turned pastor. The story is told within the book so the entire book is not about the happenings in the song.

Dude, you are so patient with your father. Props to him and yourself. I share similar behavior pattern and expressions as you do, but as a father, now raising a 3 year old son full of energy, wonder, and need. I think a lot about his immediate influences, learning curves, and what he'll soak up and establish as a young adult. I hope I can be a highly influencial model or figure for him to look up to and aspire on some personal level because i understand how well off he will be in this current place we are in time.. it's a hard world outside. Keep doing you man. You're going to be just fine.
I can’t believe your Dad knew the sample used in this song… I’ve known this song for years and had to look it up to confirm the sample was called “Love Story”. That just added another genius yet twisted element to this piece of art for me
This song is so powerful and really needs to be talked about in schools and discussed. Its a master piece. It’s not a cool song. It’s not a hype song. It’s not a happy, feel touched song. It’s a song much like a epic tragedy, it’s well written. A twist you don’t see comin and to rap a complete story and move a person the way this track does in 4 mins; is talent. Movies take 2 hours, books take 100s of pages. Yet Tech does it in minutes and these characters truly do punch you in the gut when ya hear it. Then when ya hear the twist you jaw drops.

I haven’t listened to this song in probably over 10 years. I just put on the video on the way into work as soon I saw the title I though “oh, dads gonna cry for this one.” I have speakers in my car, as soon as the bass started to kick on and I remember the tone of his voice and the ending of the story I had to fight back tears the entire time. Never once cried listening to this song. Thank God I went through what I went through and I don’t think I’m hard like Billy Jacobs anymore.
"Ask a n doing life if he had another chance... but then again there's always the wicked that knew from the start" That line is one of the coldest lines in hip hop history. That shit drop kicked me the first time I heard it.

@@sujalpokhrel4122Think of serial killers, r8pists, child SA, trafficking, these people all know the consequences from a very early age. Tech is one of the most gifted MCs of our time. His uncompromising lyrics serve as an act of defiance against a music industry that has been polluted by corporate greed. Agree with others on here that You Never Know is among his best songs. That song made me fall in love with hiphop. A true poet.
Your father is very grounded... I enjoyed hearing his perception on this.Thank you guys! This song completely changed my life... Lyrical Masterpiece... You'll never hear anything like this ever again in rap music.... This song is one for the history books.
This is one of, if not the only, songs in hip hop that you always remember the first time hearing it, where you were, how old you were etc. its crazy that one song can have such an impact on a person
i was alone after school in middle school and found this sound by myself on youtube and my stomach turned and i felt deep and heavy after hearing it. very raw track to hear around age 12/13 lol
Daaaaaaaamn... you dropped THE heaviest story on your dad from the hip hop world. Story telling at its finest. I remember when my mom first heard this song.. She was like "oh this is nice song i like this" and said something about the sample she knew what it was. I then asked her if she noticed what the song was about but she didn´t hear right away (we from Sweden), so i broke it down for her. She was a bit shocked at first but i think she came around to appreciate the art.
I love how your dad caught the ominous" vibe when it changes subtly lol. Ive always loved that part, it gets even more ominous sounding before the "initiation". That and the "ive fallen and i cant turn back!" Before he pulls back the shirt cover...
In an interview, Immortal Technique has said that this song is based on a real event that happened in the neighborhood he grew up in. That this happened, word got out, and the people in the community made sure the men who did this all met with fatal accidents. He was not directly involved, but knew the people who did it.
I had the privilege of meeting Immortal Technique in person. This man is incredibly humble and full of knowledge. He cares for his community and what he can do to help those. Either with community work or just giving life advice. It was an honor to meet him.
The mother actually wasn't just a symbol, according the Immortal and the story of it, it actually was Billy Jacobs' own mother. It worked as a punishment from the amount of greed he gained. Amazing song
Story telling at it's absolute finest. This is art. Remember when I first heard it I didn't know who tf Tech was, was just bored one day after school downloading Underground NY Hip Hop from limewire and happened to stumble upon this jem. Immediately put "Immortal Technique" in the search bar right after I heard It all the way through and downloaded damn near every result that came up 😂 Wonder how pops would feel about "You Never Know". Also one of my personal favourites...
Pertaining to the story being true. I remember hearing the FBI talked with Immortal Technique about the song as there were cases in the area that were similar. He told the FBI his story wasn’t true, but there is a Billy Jacobs on every corner in New York.
I think that's the point, it is a true story because this stuff happens, he says it's the guys mum because that's how people should look at it when they're committing acts of violence on women
Sometimes you really have to paint an extremely vivid and dark story for people to understand how bad something is. This song is the "a requiem for a dream" of music.
Dads matter! I love the father/son bond and mutual respect. Great content. I’ve been listening to many songs for the first time on this channel the past few days. I’m hooked.
THIS was awesome. This song has been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager... First that I've heard of your channel but I'm most definitely subscribed as of now. Really it made me miss my pop's. Enjoy the time you have together. This is a great way to spend it. Much respect to the both of you

Immortal technique is a genius with the mic 🎙️ all his songs are relatable and so imaginative.. I get chills listening to his song all the time 🫠it’s scary 😨
I remember hearing this in high school in around 2006 age 12 in a science class through headphones with my best friend. Never forget that chilling feeling. Still get it now. Still know it word for word. Lyrical genius. So we’ll put together. Immortal technique will forever be a legend for this song.
This is the peak of emotional story telling. I've been waiting for this song to appear on this channel and it finally did. The way immortal paints this vivid picture, nothing else compares to it. Salute!
Great review. I still remember where I was and the exact moment someone showed me this song and that feeling of complete shock and sadness after listening to it. It's so visceral and compelling, and it just shows what a masterful moment in hip hop and songwriting this is. There are other songs that are equally graphic, other songs that focus on morbid subject matter like this, but no hip-hop song i've ever listened to has delivered that same inexplicable, gut-wrenching melancholy you feel when you hear this song. It just has so many elements working perfectly together. The rise and fall of the protagonist, who you can't help but feel some sympathy for as a victim of circumstance. The twist, the underlying meaning, with the mother representing the source of humanity and potential, the nurturing backbone of life and communities, and the corrosive nature of impoverished circumstances that end up corrupting and destroying this potential, and the source of it. Even the track itself, a haunting ballroom ballad, and the rough nature of the beat's repetition. The piano melody doesn't flow throughout the song, but stops abruptly and begins again, creating a disjointed flow that feels like you're stuck in an endless loop. It's not a continuation, but a repetition, and perfectly captures that idea of being stuck in this dance with the devil forever, like groundhog day; the sad reality that in underprivileged communities, this almost feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy - an environment of hopelessness and misfortune that contributes to the ongoing and repeated cannibalisation of potential hope and prosperity.
I know this was highly recommended but, Kai’s? ear, selection and love of music is impeccable! It’s obvious he got it from his father. Love to see these two bonding over music, great music that is. Great channel always puts a smile on my face.
This, in my opinion is the epitome of story telling rap. IT takes you a vivid journey with billy jacobs, letting you visualize everything along the way. And the raw emotions that this song evokes in quite literally EVERYBODY who gives it a full listen. No other song does quite that
As soon as I saw the title I was like "What? They're going to traumatise the poor man, noooooooooo!" One of the most iconic tracks of all time, you can't listen to it and not be moved.
Beautiful father and son chemistry. As a dad of a 7 year old son, I hope to be as supportive as your dad no matter what type of music my son listens to.
Technique is a master, I remember the first time I heard this song. Another song similar to this is "You Never Know", has a similar storytelling style with a heavy message. I like the point your dad made about this song acting as a wake up call to people in these situations. Good insights on the messages and themes in the songs too.
Also please show your dad "you never know by immortal technique" that way he can hear a story from him not so dark. And Tech was my favorite artist for many years he actually would take the money he made from rap and build orphanages in other countries like Afghanistan. Hes not just a man to speak of revolutionary topics or on revolution he actually put his money where it counted and as a underground artist before you could really make youtube money he did this gotta respect someone for that.
2 things! 1st: I was super proud of dad when he was asked whether or not he needed the lyrics and he said he didn't think so! It was such a cool moment on the channel and its been really fun watching his progression in enjoying and listening to this genre of music. 2nd: I watch alot of reaction channels and this song has sort of become a cliche on this genre of channel here on youtube. I honestly didnt want you two to review it just yet because I thought it may scare off dad from rap, honestly. I was really happy and suprised that his response was what it was. Proud of you guys! Keep it up. Now lets get in some Jedi Mind Tricks. Anything from the Violent By Design album.
Only discovered this channel the other day and checking it out but how lovely it is, You both, especially your dad have such an informed and intelligent view of music. Look at other videos for this song alone and look at the absolute fakeness of their reactions. Sad that people think they have to do that for views, This is the real. And that Mama's Gun video is hands down the best reaction video on this site. Pure truth and real. I genuinely wish you both the best. Keeping the real, true reactions and the point of reactions alive.
This is one of those rare songs I have a deep appreciation for yet can only listen to it maybe once a year. Just sends a chill right into my bones. Immortal Technique is a different kind of artist. No glorification of the lifestyle that certain other rappers clearly aspire to emulate. Instead he shows the cold brutal matter of fact reality that lies behind the veneer of the whole "thug life" image.
You know your old man's awesome when you're listening to immortal technique together and he turns to you and says with widened eyes "hm. that was a good line "

This is gonna be a wild one! I would love to see you guys eventually react to Sadistik. He is not very well known, but he is so very underrated. The first song I heard was "Searching for Some Beautiful", off his first album The Balancing Act, and I was hooked. My favorite album is hard to pick, each one is different so I'd pick a different one depending on my mood. For years, I listened to Sadistik almost entirely, I'd say 90%+ of the music I listened to for several years was Sadistik lol. And, he is still a large percentage of my rotation.

Wow. This was a first listen for me , though I heard of the song growing up. I really like how you're dad has a certain attentiveness when hearing new music and how you respectfully will pause to check in or prepare him for what's next. It was nice to see the verses that stood out to him. He had a true appreciation for what the lyricist was trying to say and how he chose to say it. It wasn't missed by him at all. That's special.

I'm so glad you reacted to Immortal Technique, one of the most underrated underground artists of the last two decades. Please react to his song "You Never Know" to get to know another side of his lyricism. If Dance with the Devil is viscerally brutal, You Never Know is heartbreaking and tragic, it's about lost love. its like foreshadowing in song form
@Jayden Litchfield “3 in the morning comin back from work on the way home” was the foreshadowing he was referencing
This is good. But the guy with th greatest word play in the hip hop hood scene was Big L.

I was so close to falling into this lifestyle 🙏 I've heard this song a bunch of times before, but watching these two listen to it together and reading the comments really helped me to appreciate the people I've had throughout my life. I've perceived many of them as toxic, abusive, currupt, rtc. (and many of them are) but a lot of these people (in a way) saved me from this death cult path I was on.

"your day might not be good after this" is the best advice ever for first listen of this song.
i first heard this song as a kid. i was so shocked. you only need one listen. it stuck with me for the rest of my life. this is one of the best storytelling songs of all time imo. all hip hop fans know it. it's not actually a true story. immortal technique said it's not a true story. the song is about crime and violence within your own community that will ultimately lead to the demise of yourself and hurt the ones you love and like you said, it speaks on how black and latinx/latina women are the most disrespected and abused within their own community. he's preaching that we should treat our people better.
dont say latinx, please
@@mehmeh1053 ☠️
Lol 3% of Latin people recognize that as a real term because it’s antithetical to the language of their culture which is gendered which is why you have latinos and latinas…. No hate just trying to help inform, a lot of Latin people would be either confused of grossly offended by calling them latinx, but besides that your comment is absolutely perfect and people should probably understand the message is real not the story lol
Homie said “Latinx” 💀. My man if your trying to be ‘inclusive’ just know this degrades Latin culture.

“Vivid” really is the best description for this song. Probably the only song I’ve heard in my life where I have photographic scenes drilled into my head for every line. The artist forces you to be sucked into the story.

I told my mom about this song and she finished the story for me, i was shocked as to how she knew the story since she doesnt even speak english and doesnt like hip hop and she told me she read this book in spanish and she actualy owned it but she let a lady borrow it and she never gave it back! Ive tried so hard to find the book with no success but thats where the story comes from
@@jesushuerta8373 how many pages does tjat book have if you know
@@stefan5430 about 160 pages.

Even tho this song is disturbing it delivers. I love showing people this song and their reactions are priceless.

This song leaves you with chills down your spine and a sick feeling in your stomach.
I was looking for this comment that's what I've heard too
Id research more if i was you
Story telling at it's absolute finest. This is art.
Remember when I first heard it I didn't know who tf Tech was, was just bored one day after school downloading Underground NY Hip Hop from limewire and happened to stumble upon this jem.
Immediately put "Immortal Technique" in the search bar right after I heard It all the way through and downloaded damn near every result that came up 😂
Wonder how pops would feel about "You Never Know". Also one of my personal favourites...
Lol I had the exact same experience. Downloaded every immortal technique song off Limewire after I heard it and listened to him non stop for a while
Ahhhh the limewire days!!
Immortal technique is not someone I'll show to everyone, they've got to prove that they're able to handle it ya know?
Pertaining to the story being true. I remember hearing the FBI talked with Immortal Technique about the song as there were cases in the area that were similar. He told the FBI his story wasn’t true, but there is a Billy Jacobs on every corner in New York.
I think that's the point, it is a true story because this stuff happens, he says it's the guys mum because that's how people should look at it when they're committing acts of violence on women
His celly told him that story
Sometimes you really have to paint an extremely vivid and dark story for people to understand how bad something is. This song is the "a requiem for a dream" of music.

This is the peak of emotional story telling. I've been waiting for this song to appear on this channel and it finally did. The way immortal paints this vivid picture, nothing else compares to it. Salute!
The way the emotion left both of yall when the music started playing... really is something strange about this beat. Yall almost looked hypnotized.
WOW !! Is all I can say.
Your dad is a cool dude! The way he nods his head and analyzes the song and breaks it down is awesome!
Your dad is awesome. You guys are both great.
This song is one of the absolute craziest rides ever made in music. Its flawless but also brutal. Its insane and glorious.

They're going to traumatise the poor man, noooooooooo!"
One of the most iconic tracks of all time, you can't listen to it and not be moved.
Immortal technique Harlem Streets and Harlem Renaissance is a must for you and your dad. Love the content, I love that your dad appreciates the genre
2nd:
I watch alot of reaction channels and this song has sort of become a cliche on this genre of channel here on youtube. I honestly didnt want you two to review it just yet because I thought it may scare off dad from rap, honestly. I was really happy and suprised that his response was what it was.
Proud of you guys! Keep it up. Now lets get in some Jedi Mind Tricks. Anything from the Violent By Design album.
WTF i never expected this song to be on this channel..i can't wait for the release
This song is Literally a work of art
This is one of those rare songs I have a deep appreciation for yet can only listen to it maybe once a year. Just sends a chill right into my bones. Immortal Technique is a different kind of artist. No glorification of the lifestyle that certain other rappers clearly aspire to emulate. Instead he shows the cold brutal matter of fact reality that lies behind the veneer of the whole "thug life" image.
this is was a dope reaction. immortal technique doesn't get the recognition he deserves. you need to do Pete Rock & CL Smooth T.R.O.Y Hip Hop classic.

Wow. This was a first listen for me , though I heard of the song growing up. I really like how you're dad has a certain attentiveness when hearing new music and how you respectfully will pause to check in or prepare him for what's next.
