God I love this song. It’s 2007 and I’ve stayed up late on the desktop computer to finish an assignment. The house is asleep so I plug my headphones and get onto TH-cam. I wait 2 minutes for this song to load and then watch the video on repeat. I go to bed late, dreaming of rocking up to a school party in skinny jeans and a vest over my t-shirt and then introducing ‘that’ girl to this song so that it will become ‘our’ song. Fast forward to 2023, my pregnant wife is asleep in bed next to me and I’ve just done writing school reports on my iPad. I find a fueled by ramen playlist and let it sing me through my work. I finish up, the house is asleep, and I find this video again. I may be 32 now, but man this song makes me feel youthful again. It leaves me with no other feeling than joy. Joy for those teen years well spent and joy for my future with my family. Thank you This Providence. Your work is so intertwined with my emotional upbringing. You didn’t have to go that hard for this song, but you did.
