    I purchased the DT 770 pro based on your recommendation. You speak the truth. These are the best sounding headphones I've heard. My LG V40 easily powers the 250 ohm version. They get plently loud at max volume. If you own an LG phone with the quad dac, have no qualms about buying the DT 770 pro. They are a perfect fit for this phone!

    Excellent video, straight to the point 👍. I've just bought a V40 and am researching headphones, something I've never done before. I'm all set to grab the 80 ohm 770s but before I do I am reconsidering the 250 ohm varient. I mainly listen to ambient and classical but also a bit of 70s/80s pop/rock.

    • @GavinsGadgets
      @GavinsGadgets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. The 250 ohm are smoother but for classical I would get the 80 ohm as they go louder in the volume and that is more important with classical. The 250 ohm might not be loud enough for you.

    Hi Gavin thank you very much for this detailed review, quick question how would you compare the HD599 to the HD560S considering it will be powered off an LG V30? Iam just worried the HD599 wont trigger the phone into High impedence mode? And also how would you compare the HD560S to the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro? I assume the later will have better bass but would the HD560s have a better mid, top and sound stage thats worth loosing the bottom end the Beyers excell in?

    2:30 - You actually don't need the high impedance mode at all, it will only make things sound louder for headphones that are harder to push. Regular IEMs or extremely sensitive IEMs will actually benefit more from the standard impedance mode. Quality remains the same in both of the modes, as you said, it's a myth.

  • @paritosh_arahat

    Hi Gavin! I'm confused what version of the dt770 do I buy for my v40, an 80 ohms or the 250 ohms. You have praised the 250 version a lot in the video. So I'm worried that if I buy the 80 ohm, I'm not getting the best. And are you what on max volume all the time on the 250s?
    By the way I'm just a casual listener and mainly listen to rock and pop bands like Coldplay, U2, Owl city, still corners, etc.

    • @GavinsGadgets
      @GavinsGadgets  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My hearing is in reasonable shape and I don’t listen to loud levels so the 250 ohms is my preference. But the volume will be on max and for some music may not be loud enough, hence why 80 ohms is the better alternative.

  • @steviesteve750
    @steviesteve750 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Gavin, really useful review, what is your experience of the Beyer DT880? I'm using these and a pair of Klipsch x11e with my V30, and I'm underwhelmed with the max volume - my laptop with a Dacmagic XS is much louder, and possibly a better SQ too, so the sensitivity is key as always with UK/EU max SPL limited crap. I'm seriously considering the DT770 after watching your review.

    • @GavinsGadgets
      @GavinsGadgets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the ohms of the Beyers. If max volume is an issue, make sure you have the 80 ohms. The DT770s are better as closed back design. But I do like the 880s as well.

      Gavin Fabiani-Laymond I guess they will trigger the higher output threshold that I've read is at 50 ohm impedance. My choice is Sennheiser 650 equivalent from Massdrop or Drop(new name). Identical except for colour. I bought them for my V35 and V40. Ordered V60 and will use with it too. The Sennheiser Hd 650 are only $200 at the Drop website. Which is $300 or so less than they should cost. They are high impedance but these phones can drive them. If you want then to be super loud tho you may wanna buy an amp. I like them without because I listen to jazz at moderate levels. Killer natural sound. These phones were top of the line for Sennheiser back a decade or so ago. Friggin steal at $200 US

    • @GavinsGadgets

      Sennheiser are superb for jazz. It’s a shame that Drop remains US only , the deals don’t become as good if shipped to the UK, as tax etc is due on top of sale price. It’s possible to get the actual 650 brand new for about £270 and the 600 for about £200. If you haven’t yet, tube amps with the 650 and jazz are the best.

    I opted for the 80ohm on the DT770. I saw a top Amazon review saying the bass was a bit meatier for the 80 ohm compared to the 250 and I tend to like a punchy bass. I really wanted to make use of the hifi quad DAC on the v30 and my in-ear Klipsch XR8, although they sound alright, just don't do much more of anything with the DAC because of how low their impedance is.

    • @GavinsGadgets

      Enjoy them. One option is to force the Quad DAC is high impedance mode by using an adapter first before plugging headphones in, or try the app HiFiDacFix (doesn't work on every phone).

      Unlikely they will. It’s more of an issue with classical music as well due to the quieter passages. They way to look at it is the 80 ohm will be powered fully whereas the 250 ohm might sound 10% better but may not have enough volume for your ears. And if you’ve never heard both , you won’t miss a thing. Both sound excellent.

    I have an LG V35 and a G6+, both with the quad DAC. I've been wanting to know, are the Sennheiser HD599 as good or better than the 598? Do they trigger high impedance mode on the DAC? I want something with good rich sound that will take advantage of the DAC, primarily for music and gaming. I listen to a lot of alt-rock, progressive rock, electronic stuff like Conjure One and Balligomingo, classic rock, etc. I don't know which will sound best for these genres, and aren't terribly expensive.
    I'm leaning toward the HD 599 or the DT 770 pro 80's. I've heard that the ATH-M50x are very popular, but I don't think they'd really take advantage of the DAC. I'm at a loss, though, because I've never owned more than average at best headphones. I'm using a pair of ATH-M40x currently, but want something better.

    Hi gavin. My shipment of the 770pro 250ohm doesn't arrive till Tuesday so i can change the order. I saw reviews of the open back 990pro 250 that sad that sound is more natural, less artificial, synthetic. I am not an audiophile, I'll use my headphones just for music playback from my 6g quad dac. Can you pls tell me what you think gives the upper hand to the 770s? And something else. The 80 ohm version looses in quality but gains in volume in front of the 250 ohm? Is it not worth it to the average listener. Sorry for annoying you so much. Pls answer. Bye

    Hi Gavin I am using Sennheiser Momentum in ear and LG V30 plus. But when I activate Dac mode, nothing happens. How can I activate high impedance mode?

    • @GavinsGadgets
      @GavinsGadgets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't need high impedance mode with the momentum in ears. You'll blow the earphones. Turning on the DAC does make a difference. It adjusts the power needed according to the headphones plugged in. Easy to drive and you're in low impedance mode. Over 50 ohms and you'll in high impedance mode. Whatever option you have active , the dynamic range is increased as well as the quality.

    • @GavinsGadgets
      @GavinsGadgets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can trick the LG using either an app called LG DAC Fix or an adapter that you plug in first , and the earphones into the adapter. But as I said you really don't need high impedance mode on those earphones as they're super easy to drive and go loud quicky.

I've read some comments from people saying the sound signature is unbearable on the treble side, not sure if that's just me but I've had some other V shaped headphones for a while now so maybe I'm used to it, maybe my ears are damaged, lol. But I find the beyers sound just great. They get a bit pronounced at max volume, in my case the f sound more than the s, but they're plenty loud at 40-60 range.
