Goblin State Park: Uniquely Alien: San Rafael Desert: Utah

In a remote part of the San Rafael Desert in Utah , in a hidden valley, lurks an army of mythical creatures, they are the goblins of goblin valley.
The valley is a awesome place, like no other on Earth.
It's so unearthly it has been used by movie makers to simulate alien worlds from far away Galaxies.
Feel free to wander around the army of goblins, close up and personal.
The goblins are the remains of a section of an eroded Entrada Sandstone Strata which was laid down between 1800 million and 161 million years ago during the mid to late Jurassic period when the location was covered by a shallow sea.
Entrada Sandstone geologically speaking is a soft rock made up of sandstone, siltstone and shale, each of which erodes at different rates
The heads of the goblins are made from the slower eroding sandstone and the body shape from the faster eroding siltstone and shale.
Little Horse Canyon
A short drive from the army of goblins is one of the most interesting trails in Utah, namely the Little Horse Canyon Trail.
It's a wonderful trail, well worth the effort even though the summer temperatures can be in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
