the thing that almost nobody talks about the 4K resolution with regards to video is that, 4K is still within the boundaries of APSC framing. So if one wants to shoot 4k60 on the A7IV, just get APSC lenses for it.
For me its not a problem at all. Yesterday iv filmed a fashion film and i shot in 4k 60 and 1080 120 (10 bit s&q) and now with my video edited i cant see any problems with it. in love with this camera
For me, since I've been using APSC cameras for a very long time, the 4k 60FPS crop doesnt bother me at all. Plus, I can use all of my APSC lenses in it. the Sigma 16mm F1.4 is a beast of a lens and is a great tandem with the a7iv. Another great combination is the Sony 18-105mm F4 with the a7iv since I can't find an affordable used Sony 24-105mm F4 yet.
That makes a lot of sense! And definitely it’ll be nice to get a used 24-105! There’s been a few at B&H on sale used and I know my local camera company had one too!
I can honestly say I only had the overheating happen when I connected my camera to my computer to do a zoom call and used this as my camera but otherwise I personally haven’t had any issues with that aspect! Maybe cause I don’t leave my camera on all the time while filming or film 4k 60 for long enough periods to overheat!
You might have that crop at 60 FPS but you can work around it pretty easily…. you also get 7K at 24p and 30p which is useful for stabilization. I keep Active on and often add more Stab in post in FCP
Yea I’ve learned to work around the 60fps cropped so it’s been fine! But you don’t get 7k sadly. You have oversampling of 7.2k and it’s downsized to 4k which makes it nicer quality technically. But you don’t get access to the 7.2k like that sadly. Unless you found some way haha
@@EasyTigerCreative who has a monitor or tv that is more than 4K ?… hardly anyone It’s approximately 7K so if you crop in significantly you still preserve a 4K image. Because you are shooting in 7K(ish) you can hit up that APS-C S35 punch-in and your still get 4K. What you’re getting at 60FPS This makes the camera better than the A7S3 IMO….for a hybrid shooter especially
@@puckhead1221 but the 7k is downsampled inside the camera. You don’t get the 7k to crop in in post though that’s what I’m trying to say. So you’re still getting the 7k but it’s downsampled to 4k internally which makes it 4k just nicer 4k if that makes sense? You don’t get the 7k and then you can either crop in or not.
@@EasyTigerCreative you’re cropping in from 7K to my knowledge. Photos are the same. This is super useful to be able to crop in from higher than 4K If you need to rotate a video slightly or add stab in post you are still way over 4K. You wouldnt be if you are at 4K60 which is S35 mode
I have been thinking the same, glad I found this video. I like to shoot some slow mo cinematic shots at 35mm full frame. To me I thought the answer would just be shoot 4k60 at 24mm on the 24-70GM. I haven't got the A7IV to test that theory out but this video helps plenty. I am right in my thoughts yeah?
Yea I mean what I do is simply adjust to the crop in to be able to get what I need. I just kinda know if I need to be either wider to bring my widest lens and be far away enough as needed or just know what I plan to shoot to know how to adjust. It’s not as bad as I thought in all honesty!
Can’t I just buy a 12-24 full frame lens and just offset the crop factor? What’s the big deal about the crop factor. I shot on a Panasonic 4/3 sensor and bought my lenses to account for my crop factor. I don’t see a need to buy extra APS-C lenses.
Yea you’re welcome to use full frame glass. It’s what I do haha I have a 17-28 and a 35-150 and it works beautifully with the crop mode when I have to do 4k 60.
I think is good. In another subject, you know when you listen to a song a you said, where did I heard that song before?? Hahah that’s from epidemic sound, I used that same song for a video a did long ago for a yamaha raptor, I think I published in this account, its the first video I’ve ever made using 3 different cameras. Its not good but it was my first so I was proud of me 🤣 🤷🏻♂️. Anyways 🤘🏼🙂 later man!
Well do you shoot it in s&q mode or do you shoot it manually? Because that depends a lot on things too. But you’re supposed to slow it down by 40% on a 24fps timeline.
@@EasyTigerCreative I shoot it manually and yeah if I slow it down 40% on a 24fps timeline it’s choppy but if I slow it down on a 60fps timeline it’s smooth. I need it on the 24fps timeline though

Only crops in at 4k 60fps. It’s full frame with the 1080p 120fps. I did a video comparing the 4k 120 from the a7siii to the 1080p 120 from the a7iv too that might help!
@@EasyTigerCreative I need to have a look at that one. Was the 720/1080/4k video yours? Def tuff to tell in video even the 720 wasn't like unusable, honestly pretty good.
So if u shoot in 4K 30p or 24p I assume that’s without the crop? If so then I can’t see what all the complaining is about . Just shoot 60p when you know for sure you’re gonna slow it down . Are that many people mastering in 60p ??
You’re correct! 4k 24 and 30 is full frame and 1080p 120fps is full frame! So technically only the 60 is cropped in. Just people didn’t like that it was cropped when the competitions have either a lower crop or no crop. I was against it at first but honestly kinda got over it quite fast. do you lose stops in video mode when it crops in from 46 60?
