    Hey bud that broken plastic cone on your dinghy outboard is primarily a spacer. The thrust of the prop shoves it forward on the the shaft when running. So all you need to do is cut a piece of pvc pipe, or stack on some ss washers, to snug up the space between the rear of prop and the cotter pin. This would be safer than trusting your glue on rotten plastic! The only time there is force put on the pin is in reverse so as long as you dont have any slop you will be good to go! PS enjoying your show!

    Great video. It looked like you ran water into your tank filler directly from the water source. Would highly recommend you buy/build an inline water carbon filter, at a minimum, and get in the habit of using it. The first time you don't and get some nasty water in the tank, you will regret it. Never trust the source when the filter system is cheap and easy to build. If you put a valve on it, you get added convenience of controlling the flow at the filler end. Cheers.

    I love watching your enthusiasm and frustration and overcoming fears to accomplish long held dreams. So many firsts in such a short time.
    We bought our own yacht only a week ago. A Carter 30. Owning my own boat has been a dream since I was 17. I am now 64. We have many firsts ahead of us, and you both are such an inspiration.

Both of you have achieved that and a dream that so many others cannot do and thank you. Your journey only just begun and there will be more things thrown at you for the first time. Your attitudes and experience and ability to work together will prevail. Looking forward to adventures in Spain. Cheers

    for the signal flags the port side is for signal flags like the letters and numbers only but the starboard side is for anything including courtesy flags. I don’t think a country’s flag will matter to much if it’s in the port if it can’t be mistaken for a signal flag and those little ropes are signal halyards
    hope this helps and your boat is absolutely beautiful

    I always prepare drinks by having cups, flask and and any milk carton placed in a pot on the gimble. Only remove each item to place securely elsewhere, eg milk into fridge or cup to hand of person drinking from it. Leave nothing which can spill on counter tops as sure as the dawn follows night, a wave will cause spillage.

    I've sailed in the Pacific, Atlantic East coast, and the Med but I think the two most challenging seas I've tackled are The Channel and the Bay of Biscay, so well done guys. Now you know that you can handle anything Poseidon throws at you!

    Leave the prop in gear when sailing. It's noisy and wearing the bearing as it turns. Good stuff. Biscay is full on!

    If you put your gearbox in work in stead of neutral is a big deal on noisereduction.

    Well done guys, the first of many passages I am sure. I have done Biscay a couple of times, the first on a Contessa 26 with no GPS, radar, auto helm to name a few things. A long time ago, I would not do that now. At seventy and ending my sailing days you brought back memories of that first Bicay and the scense of achievment. Bon Voyage. 🙃Oops rogue wave.

    Sweet sailing and living it... I watch a number of other crews and they often work out their passage and arrival time to be in the daylight. Even to down power so they can slow down to push back arrival time. I guess it saves a lot of pressure and risk just for a few hours difference.

    • @TeuluTribe
      @TeuluTribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Leon. We would normally do this. However, with the wind picking up we thought it would be best to just get in 😅

    Sort of sounds to me like your prop was free wheeling while under sail. Usually best to stick it in Reverse before shutting off the engine. This will keep your prop from spinning while sailing. When it turns and the engine is not running, some of the bits will wear and not get properly lubricated. Just a thought.

    • @TeuluTribe
      @TeuluTribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have a hydraulic gearbox so leaving it in reverse doesn’t stop it from spinning. This is normal for these kind of gear boxes 😊

    Outstanding, especially the last leg, approaching a strange lee shore at night, . Thst'd give anyone some nerves, however experienced you are. Also, excellent call on leaving when you did, big systems piling into the bay leave nasty sea states for ages afterwards. It's all to do with some very weird counter currents you get along the continental shelf drop-off. Crossing that area as quickly as possible is a very good thing, as it's definitely a Place Where Bad Things Happen. All the best ...

    Well done to you guys. Another tick. Nicely done. On a masthead boat the genoa is the power and the main is giving you pointing ability. It’s really about feeling the helm to determine the balance so knowing if you have weather help or lee helm but looks like you are working it out fine and reefing early is much better than too late. Nice to see you with Sail Life yesterday. Andy UK

    Congratulations crossing Biscay, but I cannot resist giving one point of unasked advice: While crossing Biscay we learned the hard way that having the mizzen up on a downwind course is not always a good idea. It can make your sailboat very unstable and the trouble is that you might not notice this below 25 kts. My guess is that your mizzen on a downwind course will give you a LOT of trouble at 50 kts and, yes, that could easily have happened crossing Biscay during this time of year.

    • @TeuluTribe
      @TeuluTribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice Bas, we’ll try taking the mizzen down next time!

    There was mention of your prop spinning whilst sailing, just put your throttle in reverse and that will stop it. If the prop folds that will assist also. Just need to put it back into neutral for start up.
