Close your eyes for a moment and imagine you're in a bathroom stall... 3 seconds ago you just crapped a daily now you reach for the toilet paper and you bunch it up, in your right hand. You do the reach around and wipe that smeary black paste on that tissue paper and of course you look at it to make sure you have properly wiped. Otherwise, well... we just don't need to explain any further. Except for one thing... the smear on that wad of tissue is equivalent to the academy award for best bullshi÷ artist of the year. The thought that a tv show could be beamed around the world from the US to Australia was amazing to him. He was the first person in his street to buy a tv in 1956 -not cos he was a show off, but because he loved the idea of 'the cinema in your own home!' He would have loved the internet so much. I'm in Brisbane, Australia, in my 50's and admittedly saw a few of these Academy Awards on TV. A different time and world. Saw the legends of screen, vaguely remember the moon landing, learnt and could calculate in binary at high school. Literally grew up with computers and one of the few who appreciates technology and how it improved our lives, bringing the world together. Just like the Silver Screen and Cinema, it brought people together, it entertained us and now we have a generation who don't even know about the Hollywood of old and take our technology all for granted. They're using the tech now in fact to destroy us. Why?
PS. Do note the most elegant Raquel Welch at the end of the clip. Thanks for the memories and RIP.

It's fascinating to see how the opening of the Oscars has changed; today we have interminable red carpet arrivals covered on the E channel and the networks interviewing actors and actresses ad infinitum about their designer gowns, jewelry, accessories, etc. while in 67, the stars were unapproachable, except for still photographers. It's also interesting to see how many stars changed spouses after these awards- Dick Van Dyke, Steve McQueen, Raquel Welch, Glenn Ford, Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave and Alan Arkin all re-married. Also sad to see the luminaries who have passed- Rock Hudson, Robert Mitchum, Walter Matthau, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, McQueen, Mike Nichols, Patricia Neal and Jimmy Stewart.

Oh, I disagree, Mr. Hopkins. Those gowns were gauche or Victorian, with no in between. I wouldn't be caught dead in them, see. The best part of the show was when it went off...so yesterday...so out of this world...and so very, very, very white. Where was Sidney? Did you see Nancy Reagan? I hear the "little pistol" she carried was for Angela Davis who endeavored to read her husband the riot act if she got anywhere near Ronnie. Anyways, I agree: "Great style never changes." Once you get your eyes examined, you'll see those old rags for what they are.
