The coolest thing about Windows96 is that every album grows on me. Like, I'll listen to an album the first time and think, well, it's good, but it isn't as good as his last one. And then, I'll listen to it again. And again. And again. Until the next album comes out, and I’ll say, well, this isn't as good as his last one. Every single time! It's like, it's not you, it's me. And it truly is me. I'M the one who has to change. I don't know how he does it, but he does.

You are precisely correct. What you describe here happens with every single one of his albums for me as well. Windows96 and the show Trailer Park Boys have that factor in common, where you don't like it the first time you watch it but then afterward you can't stop watching the first 10 seasons or so over and over and over again, each time finding something new and interesting to enjoy.
That's what an acquired taste is!
I agree, they took a while to grow on me after Gradient Horizon, but eventually I just fell in love with its weirdly beautiful aesthetic.
I love Windows96 for the SNES-style sounds he uses. That's the kind of nostalgia you can't get anywhere else.

Gab, this album really feels like a personification of your own career as Windows96... as seen in musics like takeaguess, lightsleeper, has a ton of tunes referring earlier albums like enchanted instrumentals and whispers, magic peaks, plume valley, etc. It's like showing this to a person asking "What is Windows96?" and i love it. As somebody who has recemtly been getting into Windows96 a ton, this was a blessing
Idk what this is, I just happened to be scrolling & I scene this thumbnail. That plus the title got me, I didn’t know if it was a gaming/computer or clickbait.
But a fun fact about me is I love music like this, no one who knows me would believe it😂. I love whatever this genre is, elevator/lobby music, & jazz along with my hiphop & r&b 🤷🏾♂️ 😂
Tekken 4 “touch & go” theme song is a top 5 from tekken for me. Tekken always had a great soundtrack
The greatest artist in the scene produces another absolute banger. Windows96/Gavriel has such a varied, high quality, and unique discography, I always look forward to another Windows96 Album to add to my rotation.

It's my belief that the title of this album, 'Dated New Aesthetic', describes its vibe. This is something Windows96 does a lot (Think about Enchanted Instrumentals and Whispers for example), the whole album has a recurring voice effect saying ‘96’ which is the first time we’ve seen his songs reference himself, and the title fits the vibe of this album so well because this whole album reuses a ton of effects and sounds from his old/previous albums and make them new again, with a couple of sounds coming from elsewhere entirely.
To prove this point, and for my own use, here's a list of all the references he made that I could pick up. Feel free to add any I missed.
At the end of the 1st song at 3:23 you can hear faintly the sped up beats to "I think it's over"
"Nocturne Button Presses" bizarrely uses that 'ya ready?' sound effect from Justin Timberlake's SexyBack
The 3rd song "Takeaguess" just straight up uses the beats from "Hazy Trip" (I think he wanted us to guess where the beats were from)
The 4th song has beats very reminiscent of the 'Plume Valley' album, specifically the song "Highwind Prairie" or maybe "Tranquility Path"
"Lightsleeper", the 5th song, also has Plume Valley-esque beats, resembling specifically the beats of the EP song "Beast Town"
"Not a Puzzle or a Riddle" is a banger, though I haven't found a reference for it. I guess the whistling vaguely sounds like "The Fool" or a Nematophy song?
The 6th song has at the very beginning a sort of keyboard sound straight from "Expect", which is both a single and a song from the album "Magic Peaks", and that trumpet-y sound effect seemingly comes from "Cathode Rays" of the EI&W album, and it goes into the Plume Valley beats at the end
7th, "Feal Brids" also uses Plume Valley beats, and uses a "Doo" vocal sound effect from the latter half of "Whitenoisetruthfull" from Nematophy.
The 8th, "Konami Beta Female" uses beats similar to those of One Hundred Mornings, though I have trouble putting the other sounds to one song/album
9th, the song "I should probably start looking" starts with the same hum as "240p" from How to See Through Walls, and it plays the 'so disgusting' voice from the reprisal of NDE from the same album. It also uses that 'doo' sound effect again from Nematophy
And finally, "Moment of Refelction" seems to have those plume valley beats as well as a keyboard sound like that of the songs of Empty Hiding World, specifically "Edenic Green Plus"
It was really fun to hear all these nostalgic bits of songs from all the Windows96 albums I've been listening to for years. A trip down memory lane. If anyone else caught anything from any other song or album, please point it out to me.

ANOTHER BANGER FROM GAVRIEL!
it's a very good album, it brings together everything good that Gavriel has done so far. It's an amalgamation of several previous albums, I noticed a big influence from Plume Valley and In The Worlde.
Overall it met my expectations, but I felt a bit of that special touch of unique authenticity that each album has.

I've been listening to Windows96 since 2018, and from the day I came across "One Hundred Mornings" in its full version my musical taste began to shape itself around Vaporwave, an artist like Gavriel having such expression and relevance producing a "dead" genre " and niched in the middle of Latin America is a source of pride for me, his songs are part of my youth and will forever be in my most nostalgic memories.

Your music reminded me of a song I heard years ago. The video clip was about dolls that came to life (something like Toy Story) and played the sounds of the song. It was called something like "club..." or "going to the club..." I would like to hear it again. But I never found it. I love your album.

I felt like this album was a lot more experimental, but the change of pace is perfect. Feels like an amalgam of so many of his previous album's best parts. Gotta love it.

"Lightsleeper" in particular starts so innocent like, the title somewhat suggests, a sweet and lithe lullaby. When the track degenerates with the interference noise and abruptly transforms, my jaw literally dropped - in a good way.

ive been a windows96 fan for a solid few years now, i found enchanted instrumentals and whispers through a gd level in like 2019 and was instantly fucking hooked. i found windows96's music in a very rough time in my life in which i was dealing with budding scizoaffectivity as well as a pretty serious addiction to various drugs and i genuinely believe his music saved my life. i have a windows96 shirt that is my favorite shirt i have as well as two vinyls. i believe im in the top 1% of windows96 listeners on spotify, but i know damn well i have a lot more listening hours on other platforms as well.
for those like me who are die hard windows96 fans or are just beginning to indulge in his beautiful sounds, i would definitely recommend listening to some of his earlier more obscure releases such as cut up sections or optimized. they display some of my favorite soundscapes from windows96

Favorite album of yours. I don't think I like it much, turn it on as background music cause I'm *saving* my 'better' stuff for later when I want to pay attention to it, realize I'm fully entranced in the album once not a puzzle or a riddle comes on, and realize I've been doing nothing this whole time and pushed back my 'better' stuff listening session.
I fw the vibes of this album, very whimsical, i like to imagine it as a silly little creature just experiencing life in the worlde
Another wonder of an album. Gorgeous stuff. Definitely going to await buying this one physically.
Musically it felt like a beautiful merging between the lush atmospherics of Plume Valley, the darker synth wave of YVYY etc, and just a really top-notch production. Despite the jazzy tone, it also felt somehow more emotional than some of the others.
28:12 'I should probably start looking' might be my favorite, with its hypnotizing beat.
