Nice to have this all in one video without a bunch of extraneous crap. Short, sweet, and to the point. Thank you! I'd love to see a short video showing a full approach starting from cruise to touchdown specifically focused on the appropriate speeds, rate of descent, throttle levels, etc. to make that happen.
I have videos close to that. Most of my approach videos deal with proper speeds and procedures. I have a video on when to descend that is pretty easy compared to some methods. If you look at my Localizer approach video in the TBM, I believe it starts from 25,000 feet before doing the approach. That may be exactly what you're looking for.
Just watched a second time after many hours in the TBM. This is by far the best TBM video! Hours planning, recording, and editing with highlight boxes. I appreciate your fantastic effort!!! (BTW missed LVL)
LVL sure was missed. You’re the second person to catch it so good job. The video took about 20-25 hours to make. A lot of time goes into each video which is why new videos are uploaded every two weeks.
To move the throttle from Feather to Taxi (after update 5) you need to click it and hold with the left mouse button and right click. Great video, thanks!
Excellent and helpful videos ! Not only for the beginner but also for the experienced XP11 simmer , who knows the TBM900 very well - because he gets prepared for the small differences in both sim-worlds. THANK YOU for your real excellent job. Greetings from germany.
Danke! I appreciate the kind words. It will take time, but FS2020 will be a great sim in the future. Even in its current state it can still be enjoyed by many. And where else can we guess what new bugs we will have with each new update? Ha.

You mean someone would make a 2 hour long TH-cam video that could be summed up in 30 minutes? There is a new video covering the TBM on an ILS approach with the use of VNAV.
As at least one other viewer has said this is how instruction should be presented. Without emotion - clear - concise - factual - methodically and reasonably slowly so the learner can follow. I'll be back!!! 🤣

Just flew this plane for the first time. Wonderful aircraft. My favorite turbo prop used to be the Pilatus pc-12, but I think this one is going to take over that spot.
I also like that plane a lot. It is not perfect, but overall, the Asobo team did a good job with the TBM. Also, if you want more info, Daher TBM has a TH-cam channel with lots of animations on the systems of the 930 and other aircraft. There is even one on the inertial separator.

Fantastic video, so happy I found it! The TBM930 is my favorite plane in MSFS. What I didn’t find is a way to map one of my free axes to the MAN OVRD lever, I can’t find any corresponding binding in the Controls Options. Any advice?
Nice job as always! I flew the 850 until it was taken in a thunderstorm while in the hanger. Question on the G3000 when building a flight plan and selecting an ILS will it auto tune the Localizer Frequency? Also on the LPV approach what modes are they flown in NaV Vnav? It seems every system has Subtle nuances to them.
I am not sure if the G3000 autotunes the localizer. I do not think it does but once it is tuned, it will enter the final approach course automatically. Not sure if the real G3000 does that or not. In a real airplane we use APPR and VNAV on an LPV approach.
Almost as fast as a slow jet but has the ability to fly as slow as a 172. Very versatile. The AP and FD is covered at the end but I do have a more in depth video on the Flight Director on my CJ4 AP video. It may look a little different but it’s all the same for the most part.

Great vid, I was using this TBM in depth today in Greenland, I swear on startup checklist there is a step I don't see on your screen about switching to that High Idle position when NG is somewhere (50?) for a little, then moving it over into the main track where taxi speed is. Not a big deal, but I wonder if something that small of a detail was added on in an update? Im on Xbox Series X, are you on PC and is that diff? Or I'm losing my mind from playing this game too much lately lmao! But nice explanation of every thing in practical, concise way!
Looking back at the video, low idle was selected at 13% and high idle at 15. Around 50% high idle was selected and then moved to the taxi position right away. It happened quick in the video but high idle has to be selected before the throttle can be moved over to the taxi position. The video was made on PC. MSFS is a lot of fun for sure. There is so much to see and always new airplanes coming out.
Two questions after watching this great tutorial again. When you're in an aircraft such as the TBM 930 not equipped with a beacon light, how do you signal to the ground crew you're about to start the engine or start moving when doing a pushback? Next, are you supposed being able to capture the localizer of an ILS when you're in HDG mode with NAV source set to LOC and the correct ILS freq and inbound course set?
Another choice would be the strobe lights. It should be possible to capture the localizer while in HDG mode with NAV pressed. We do it that way in real flying. ATC gives a heading to fly to intercept the localizer. Example: "Turn left heading 270, maintian 2000 until established, cleared ILS runway 30 approach." In which case you would press APR when you hear cleared for the approach but HDG would stay active on the FMA until the localizer course is intercepted. However, FS2020 doesn't let that happen. The CJ4 WTM DOES work that way.
3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
Was thinking about the strobe lights but figured that would be quite disturbing for the ground crew with those very bright flashes. Was thinking maybe switching the taxi light ON would be better. Thanks for confirming not being able to capture the LOC in HDG mode in the TBM 930 being a MSFS issue. I'm no pilot but I have thousands of virtual hours in the 737 online on Vatsim and what you describe is how I'm used to flying an ILS approach as well. That's why I was a bit surprised when I tried the same method in the TBM 930 only to find how that would result in an overshoot rather than turning final onto the LOC
@ It's a shame they released FS2020 in the state it was in. So much stuff needed attention like not being able to use HDG to intercept a LOC with the AP. We normally flash the taxi lights when we're ready to taxi. Strobes would be ok in the day time. At night time I would not suggest strobes in real life to indicate ready to start.
3 ปีที่แล้ว
Yeah, lots of very basic and fundamental stuff not in place at release but I guess they were pushed internally as often is the case with these kind of large projects. In all fairness, lots of good and very impressive stuff as well and I'm positive MSFS will be absolutely brilliant in most aspects down the road. Thanks again for the answer about the lights. Flashing the taxi lights sounds like a great way doing it but also how it's OK using the strobes during daytime👍
@ I agree. The graphics are amazing and the developers are working to make it right and have committed to 10 years of support. In a year or two we should have a much better product. Also when they get an update to Bing maps we'll get better graphics, too.
Thanks for this video! On the other hand, since I have been flying around Russia where it is very cold, I have to put all the heating on and arrived after 3 hours of flight, power cut and impossible to restart. Normal? Bug? or bad handling?
Excellent tutorial, thanks for doing that. One question though, wouldn’t the left rudder trim actually put the trim to the right which in turn would deflect the rudder to the left? Is it inverted there?
I am not sure how it is in the actual airplane. I looked in a POH online and found nothing helpful. Some tabs go in the same direction as the control surface and some are in the opposite to counter control force inputs. If it moves in the same direction it would move with the control surface to counter the forces and prevent too much input from the pilot. I tend to agree with you that the tab when trimmed should move in the opposite direction. I found this from Daher and they don't even give a definitive answer. th-cam.com/video/rTrhAkTLHCY/w-d-xo.html
It may well be a case of inverted animation, which other examples have been found in FS2020. I’m not an engineer, but to me that tab movement would deflect the rudder in the opposite direction, yawing the aircraft to the right, unless the rudder itself stays put, which is weird.
I'm not sure. Could be a bug maybe. It's hard to tell because I'll make a video and then multiple updates happen and things will be different than when the video was made. I will try it on mine and see what happens.
@@thecorporatepilotdad One other thing to, I noticed that when you zoom in and out on the MAP using the switch, It looks like your clicking on it instead of clicking on the right or left side of the switch?
I tried it again and the crash lever stays where I put it. When I put it down it stays down. I drag it with the cursor (or it is a little hand when I hover over it). If I click it instead of dragging it stays up or down also. Is it possible you have a key binding also connected to it and it is in the up position and that is making it go back to the up position?

Hi thanks for the video ! I didn't understand the difference between the NAV and FD button ? And also, when do you have to press the APR button exactly ?
FD just tells which way you're going to fly next based on what you pressed on the AP/Flight Director Control Panel. Press APPR when cleared for the approach (On an ILS or RNAV approach) or if not using ATC, when outside the final approach fix. For a non-precision (No glide slope) leave it in NAV. NAV is just going to fly a course (Localizer, GPS, VOR, etc) I explain the APPR button more in my PA-44 autopilot tutorial and in my PA-44 ILS tutorial (and some other videos).
VNAV doesn't work in the TBM 930 - at least not when the video was made. That's why it was skipped. I did miss the LVL button though! Thank you for subscribing.
I have a question. I always wanted to know how can I turn on the traffic icons in the main panel GPS in the middle. Would like to know what softkey turns it on
Some avionics are not automatic and the magnetic heading of the final approach course has to be entered manually. I believe the avionics in the TBM do it for you. If you switch to LOC/VOR mode far enough out they can be entered manually.
If you are using the Bravo Throttle Quadrant, could you please relay your settings for the Throttle and the Feather. I have watched some videos on this, and it does not work smoothly. I have the Throttle in Position 1 and the Feather in Position 3.
Sorry it took so long for me to respond. Unfortunately, I do not have my Bravo hooked up and MSFS won't let me see the saved settings for the Bravo unless the unit is connected. I did find this video where the creator shows how his controls are set up and he does feather the prop in the video. Hopefully this helps: th-cam.com/video/XnZ5f5-3G5I/w-d-xo.html
As far as the flight director is concerned, nothing. In real life we may decide to hand fly the airplane then we will just select FD to turn the flight director on. AP will activate the FD and turn the AP on.
Son of a nutcracker, you're right. I went back to look at the video and noticed it at the very top of the panel. I won't tell anyone if you don't. haha
I always feel like at night the lighting is very bad in the cockpit and I can't make out the positin of any switches. Is there any interior lighting or switch lighting that I'm missing (the panel lights only illuminate _around_ the switches not the switches themselves, making it even harder to make out their positions)
On the same screen where the frequency is tuned press NAV/COMM and on the top left of the screen that comes up there is a 4 digit number that says ALT above it. That is the transponder. VFR can also be selected to set 1200 as well 2 buttons to select standby or on.

Simple and effective autopilot, excellent range (currently flying from Kerry in Ireland to St Johns in Newfoundland and as best as I can tell, I should have the range to make it), important controls are easy to use. It's fantastic. It and the A320 are the main planes I fly. I just wish she had a speed setting. Trying to maintain 252 KTAS is a bit hard.
Dude.... you're good! great job I know you're an instructor.
Thank you. I haven't instructed in 15 years but I've been told I have an ability to make learning easier.
The startup process is by far the most detailed I've seen. Extremely helpful.
Thank you. Glad it was helpful for you.

Thanks. I had issues with that one. Can't believe that bug made it past the beta testers.
Excellent and helpful videos ! Not only for the beginner but also for the experienced XP11 simmer , who knows the TBM900 very well - because he gets prepared for the small differences in both sim-worlds. I am still hesitating, to spent too much time in FS2020 - because there is still a lot of work to be done, to bring the new SIM to the level of maturity of XPLANE. THANK YOU for your real excellent job. Greetings from germany.
Danke! I appreciate the kind words. It will take time, but FS2020 will be a great sim in the future. Even in its current state it can still be enjoyed by many. And where else can we guess what new bugs we will have with each new update? Ha.
Getting upgraded avionics on the TBM triggered me to get back into her seat and to refresh my skills with your video. Still very helpful and not 2 hours that i dont have. ¡Gracias! 💙
You mean someone would make a 2 hour long TH-cam video that could be summed up in 30 minutes? There is a new video covering the TBM on an ILS approach with the use of VNAV.
Thanks, very appreciated.
As at least one other viewer has said this is how instruction should be presented.
Without emotion - clear - concise - factual - methodically and reasonably slowly so the learner can follow.

The TBM is my favorite plane right now. You clarified a couple things I wasn't sure about (the pressurization system and initial seperator usage).
I also like that plane a lot. It is not perfect, but overall, the Asobo team did a good job with the TBM. Also, if you want more info, Daher TBM has a TH-cam channel with lots of animations on the systems of the 930 and other aircraft. There is even one on the inertial separator.

do you think it works on the TBM 939? only once did I see him work independently, I can't get it to work anymore ... it's so convenient. Thanks 1000
Great video. I need another video on the flight director though. I love this plane. One step down from a jet.

Great explaining
Superb tutorial. Thanks.
Thank you. That tutorial was very time consuming but I enjoyed making it the most so far.
Great tutorial. Now I can fly a lot better
Glad it helped. I have one like this on the C152 and the CJ4 with the Working Title Mod also.
Thanks for this video! On the other hand, since I have been flying around Russia where it is very cold, I have to put all the heating on and arrived after 3 hours of flight, power cut and impossible to restart. Normal? Bug? or bad handling?
I'm not sure. I've shut down and restarted numerous times and have not had any issues. I'll try later today and see if it does the same for me.
fantastic help for a beginner like me -thanks .What about OB mode ? how does that work in this plane ?
Do you mean OBS mode which is a function of the GPS/FMS?
@@thecorporatepilotdad thanks for reply indeed OBS - seems to not be operational ?
@@JorgeAmengol It very well could be. That's one of those things that if it works the correct way I am good with it because I can't see it moving.
I'm learning the TBM and when shutting dwn the TBM I can't get the crash bar to stay down like yours's , it pops back in the up position?
I'm not sure. Could be a bug maybe. It's hard to tell because I'll make a video and then multiple updates happen and things will be different than when the video was made. I will try it on mine and see what happens.
@@thecorporatepilotdad One other thing to, I noticed that when you zoom in and out on the MAP using the switch, It looks like your clicking on it instead of clicking on the right or left side of the switch?
@@MrZX1409 for the zoom I put the cursor on it then use the mouse scroll wheel to go in and out on the zoom.

I’m not certain, but the default TBM doesn’t display traffic. Working Title has a G3000 mod that has traffic if using MSFS on PC.

What about the CRS knobs. I would expect to enter the true runway course from the approach plate for the airport
Some avionics are not automatic and the magnetic heading of the final approach course has to be entered manually. I believe the avionics in the TBM do it for you. If you switch to LOC/VOR mode far enough out they can be entered manually.
Just what i needed. Thanks (y)

Son of a nutcracker, you're right. I went back to look at the video and noticed it at the very top of the panel. I won't tell anyone if you don't. haha
I always feel like at night the lighting is very bad in the cockpit and I can't make out the positin of any switches. The switched labelled interior on the overhead panel are the only switches available that I know of.
Does anyone know how to set a transponder code in the TBM 930? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I am using your guides as a study format for MSFS 2020. The CJ4 is almost perfect, if they would fix it to where you could map your AP functions to the yoke/joystick it would be Perfect. Is there a way to do that or am I just doing something wrong?
@@jetsimmer I am pretty sure you can. I have re-mapped some buttons in the settings.
my favorite aircraft
Definitely a very fine aircraft. This is one of the best default aircraft for sure!
Would be interesting, if MS will offer the new TBM960 with FADEC Engine Control and Autothrottle.
That would be a great and very popular addition.
Hy , can you help me ? [ VNV ] button don't explain , do you think it works on the TBM 930? only once did I see him work well, I can't get it to work anymore ... it's so convenient. Thanks 1000
I like using the mixture nob on the Cesna G1000 to help save fuel, does this plane have a mixure adjustment anywhere.. I been searching in the aircraft and also online but haven't found any info.. so I am assuming no..
Turbine powered aircraft don’t have a mixture control like a piston engine aircraft does. To save fuel in a turbine aircraft go higher or fly slower.
I am using version 1.17.3.0 of MSFS and cannot get TCAS to work on any of the 1000 or 3000 model garmin systems...I didn't see any mention of TCAS controls in your excellent presentation...but can you tell me how I can get these back...I seem to have lost them when MSFS updated to this version...Knowing of some strange impacts of updates to the MSFS version--I just want to know if I can get the TCAS back or I have to wait for my "Zen" message to float to the top???? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, GJTom
I wish I had an answer for you, but I do not. The video focused on the major systems and avionics weren't touched except for the flight director control panel. There is an updating coming tomorrow so hold on, who knows what will be fixed or un-fixed with that.
@@thecorporatepilotdad Ok--Thanks anyway.
Great tutorial. Thank you!
You are very welcome. I spent loads of time on that tutorial. It's been out for a month and just now being noticed. It makes all that effort worth it. I am glad you enjoyed it!
Very helpful. Thanks.
Glad you like it. This was my most time consuming video but I really did enjoy making it.
I can't believe people don't have an A/C on their flight sim setup connected to the game's environmental features. Filthy casuals. (PS Great video. Subbed.)
Most default aircraft don't have working air conditioning. Even the pressurization logic is wrong in the TBM. Asobo dropped the ball on that but it was probably on purpose or they just didn't care because they had bigger tasks to focus on. (Thanks for subbing!)
Nice tutorial. Thanks. 😊
Thanks and you're welcome. I enjoyed making that video a lot even though it was the most time consuming video I've made so far.
I'm watching this mid flight, it doesn't hurt to know stuff about your plane once already at 25000 feet, am I right?
You are right. It can only make the rest of cruise and descent go that much better!
This is a very sophisticated aircraft. Went to fly it from Gulfport MS to Cayman Islands but once I got into the aircraft my left and right displays were off. Only center mfd was on. Looked through the switches and could not figured out how to get those two displays on. Is there a switch or something I'm missing? Great tutorial btw.
Do you have a mod on your TBM? I have heard something like this in a forum but I do not remember the fix. I wish I could be more help. Thank you for the compliment on the tutorial. This one took a lot of effort and it was slow to takeoff but I am glad people are seeing it and enjoying it now.
No mods and I'm running the standard version. I was wondering if there was a switch somewhere. I will mess around with it some more see if I can figure it out.
@@GulfCoastTim Did they display anything at all? I know when they first come on they say Garmin and you have to press the softkey below the screen. My advice is to check forums.flightsimulator.com. I am sure someone else has had that problem. If I find anything I will comment here and let you know.
@@thecorporatepilotdad hey thanks for the suggestions. They never displayed anything. All I had was two black displays on both left and right monitors and then only the center display was on with mfd. What's this softkey you're referring to?
@@GulfCoastTim it's on the MFD after electrical power is turned on. The screen will say Garmin then press here and has a line going down to a button below the MFD. I don't recall if all the screens did that or just the middle screen.
