this seems to assume the only output from the petrol engine is CO2. What of the nitrous oxides, CO, particulates, lubricating oil...

Let me get this straight. They use wind power to produce hydrogen with a loss of 50% and then put in even more power in a process to refine that e fuel instead of using that wind power directly to run an ev? Who thinks thats a good idea?

well the whole problem with electic energy is how to store it and how to transport it without direct connection to the power grid like in a car. that's why you turn the electric energy into chemical energy to transport and use in a mobile vehicle. hope that helps to understand. good question :)

@@haberlevalentin7858 For me in this context (fueling cars) it only makes sense if we use „waste“ energy to produce hydrogen. For example in the summer when more solar power is generated than needed. Thank you for your point!

As I can see Porsche wants to make synthetic fuel by capturing CO2 from the atmosphere. That must be the hardest way to come by CO2.
The atmosphere contains just 440 ppm. CO2 and huge amounts of energy is required to filter it out. Surely there must be other richer sources where less energy is required.
    It will become expensive.

Flue gas coming out of gas pipes can be used
A company named jakson green is making such plant

Porsche's CO2 neutral synthetic fuel has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the automotive industry compared to traditional gasoline. By utilizing innovative technology to produce fuel from renewable sources like hydrogen and CO2, Porsche's eFuel could help combat climate change and promote sustainability. This technology could pave the way for a greener future in the automotive sector, offering a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fuels. Contact: Techcryp1@hotmail.com

Sugarcane is far more cheaper to sequester carbon from the air, it also is probably far more efficient!
We here in Brazil do it since the early eighties, when being green was not a fashion.
BTW Brazil is one of the cleanest bigger economies on the world, but the ECO police just wants us to take care of the Amazon. Just by measurement, the Amazon is bigger than all of Europe!
