I like the first look reviews because they're casual and you get to see the car like you're getting into it for the first time w/out a lot of specs/stats. Dave does an awesome job.
Would love to hear your thoughts on how this compared to the CX9 since you had a chance to review the CX9 not too long ago. Particularly interested to know if there are signficant difference in the interior design/features and handling. Thanks Dave!
You're gonna dig this car on the streets, man. Especially when you push it into corners with the newly added G-vectoring control. My wife and I just picked one up and we LOVES it. Great daily driver.
Got to love how car makers are putting buttons, knobs etc very close to cup holders. A splash or spill may be terrible to get sticky drink in those pricy systems.
Dave you said "we'll pop that back into drive" at 2:25 but you put it into park lol 😂 it's okay you're still the best at life with your handsome ruggedness
What I noted new compared to the 2016 model is the fact that, heated steering wheel wasn't there before, also the AC vents in the back seats is new. Subwoofer is also new in the GT model.

This is a strange comparison but I'm comparing this with the smaller mazda3 which I was going to buy. Now I'm a bit unsure since the cx5 looks and feels more upscale/luxurious and has more space however the 3 will handle better. Not too sure if I can sacrifice more handling for a even more luxurious and space though. Which would Dave and the comments pick?
E-MAN.................................I did a 2017 CX-5 test drive yest. 10/26 just to see how it compares to my 2016 Subaru Outback 2.5 premium model. To my surprise the Mazda had a bouncy ride, the engine was buzzy, the out dated 6 spd. trans was quicker versus my CVT. Overall my AWD Outback feels more substantial and has more cargo and passenger room. I told the salesman that I would not trade even-up. Another plus is...I averaged 34 mpg to and from the Mazda dealership a total of 200 miles from home.

Also android auto is coming and will be downloaded into models 2016-2018 if you chose. just go to a Mazda dealer and they'll be able to plug into the system and load it in. if you can't wait, there are several videos on how to hack the system and download it into your system now. just search android auto in the Mazda3. the deisel will be advertised as a performance SUV and not a fuel saver. If you can't tell already, I work for Mazda. want a real treat for the future....the speed3 and speed6 are coming back with 310 hp and AWD, the 6 will be a coupe while the 3 will remain a hatch. oh and by 2020.....the 540hp RX-9 WILL make its debut in USA!!!!!
adam stratton Thanks for the info. I was concerned about not having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the 2017 Mazda CX-5. I was also curious about the Mazdaspeed 6 and Mazdaspeed 3 returning. Mazda is one of my favorite automakers and I am really interested in switching over to a new 2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring from my current 2015 Acura TLX.
"Off road" is hard of this car - this is a "pretty" car. A city Driver car. I'm just glad they did something about that awful road noise/Cabin noise unlike the Honda CRV.
terence williams - dude not really ...it is usually a setting to open driver only ( default) or all 4 doors with one click. So you learn your stuff better before commenting...

There is an interior button to release the hatch. It's next to the blind spot and traction control switches.

Any details on if/when you might get your hands on the Diesel model coming out later this year?
Looking forward to the detailed review, I think that model has a hands free lift-gate if you toss a foot under the rear bumper.

Jeremy Macwan 26 MPG combined isn't bad for a small crossover vehicle. I would much rather have a Mazda CX-5 than a Honda CR-V.
CR-V 1.5 turbo's MPG ratings were spoofed in testing. If you're throwing it into boost a lot, you're gonna get terrible MPG out of the CR-V
but this is way more fun to drive ;)
