Oxnard is a sanctuary city that is currently being discovered by people in LA climbing homeless and drug user numbers that the city slides under the rug every city has its bad parts but I can’t help but notice you guys are in the nicest part on mandalay that happens to be cut away from the rest of the city

You had to use Hollywood Beach school as an example when it is the highest rated school in the district and can onle be accessed if you live in the beach communtiy. All other schools in the area are absolulty horrible. Lived here my entire life.

Oxnard used to smell real bad and lots of Seagulls. Had more muggy weather and crime also. It's changed and is so much better.

Just don’t leave anything in your car- if someone can see something inside of a nice car- so much as a backpack (boy, our car wasn’t even nice) it WILL be broken into. Highscool is tough when you get your backpack stolen halfway through the year 🥲 maybe it’s not as bad these days with cloud storage.

This was a great video, I grew up in LA County, moved to San Diego for a bit and thankfully ended up in Ventura County/Oxnard & I love it. It's not overly crowded, everything is closee, traffic doesn't suck like in LA. The weather is beautiful, great churches. Sure there are negatives as well, but in my opinion the pros far outway the negative.

Oxnard schools are under staffed and under funded. My sister-in-law taught in the Laguna Vista School District for several years and she and her husband (my brother) were constantly reaching into their own pockets to buy classroom supplies and school supplies and toys for the kids. Many of our other family members were in the habit of stopping at garage sales to buy any grammar school related items on the cheap to use in her classroom and to share with other classrooms. If you plan on moving to Oxnard and you have young children consider home schooling or a private school.

    • @livinginventuracounty1071
      @livinginventuracounty1071  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

I understand your frustration. I taught for 20 years in Colorado and had to do the same thing. I always had to buy items for my classroom because we did not have the funding. One year it was so bad they would only give us a ream of paper, which was supposed to last 3 months. I was teaching a morning and afternoon kindergarten class, a total of 60 students. However, I can tell you that some of the best teachers can be found at schools that do not have the best funding if the district knows how to provide extended learning. I can also tell you that some of the most passionate teachers work in these schools. We always recommend speaking to other parents, visiting the schools, and talking to the principal and teachers if you can before you decide to put an offer in for a house. On the other hand, we have had clients ask for a list of private schools and have that available for people as well. Thank you so much for your comment. I believe that this leads to a much bigger discussion.

I was stationed over there at the Coast Guard station in Channel Island right next to Silverstrand. My father was the chief of police at Port Hueneme for about 10 years.
I was born in Oxnard in 1983 and I left for Scottsdale Arizona in 2012 and to be honest I haven’t looked back. It was really sad to see the way home was going and how expensive it got.! I was paying 2600 a month for a two bedroom apartment at Arbor Parc Road next to Walmart and Colonial!!!
In 2013, I was paying 1500 for a four bedroom two-story house in North Scottsdale and 2400 ft.² of property with a huge backyard and a three car garage a loft. Very safe neighborhoods, no gangs, it was strange, not hearing a police siren at night.
It is so peaceful out here, yes, it gets a little warm, but I will take luxury living and a little warm weather.
That’s not to say there are not some beautiful places in OXNARD. I was a former crime, prevention, officer and district safety officer with the OXNARD POLICE department.
And downtown got hit really hard with the drugs and the gangs.
It’s a hard community for young people because a lot of the jobs around there are retail and then you have the retirement areas on the beach.
So for young people, I would highly recommend Ventura, Thousand Oaks, Westlake, Camarillo. There is more gig style jobs there more data entry stuff.
It was very very hard growing up in OXNARD.
But I do miss Channel Island with a heavy heart.
Channel Island was absolutely my favorite spot. I had a small 32 foot cruiser at Channel Islands Marina. I also lived in the Pasar Apartments of Peninsula across from the fire station and Toppers pizza
Down there at the harbor is where it’s at
There are a lot of things to do and hopefully Sea is still around. They have really good fish tacos. The Ventura Harbor is not bad either but I don’t know the status of the restaurants if they’re still open.
But Channel Island Harbor has a lot of great stuff plus Silverstrand has Pepe’s Mexican food always good and fresh. Tall ships festivals, safe boating week.
    There is some good stuff.
It’s a shame they got rid of building homes with fireplaces. That was always the fun times about having Christmas and OXNARD was lighting a fire and opening presents on Christmas morning.

Thank you so much for your comment. It is always nice for others to hear from someone who grew up here. Sea Fresh is still around and serving some yummy food. Our daughter is enjoying growing up in Oxnard and is currently in a show at the Elite theater. However, she tends to visit Ventura a lot for things to do when not at the beach.

This is such BS, of course this guy is gonna try to sell it to those that do not live here to come on over, he's a REA. There are tons of these "Living in [name of city]" channels to boost it up. I was born and raised in Oxnard, lived on each N, S, W and E sides, each has it's issues and crime. Oxnard is also overcrowded, high taxes, insurance rates etc. Throughout the 70s and 90s, Oxnard used to be known as one of the cheapest cities within VC to live. Yes, Oxnard has spruced itself up, but you can only lie (cover up) so much. The cops are corrupt and the mayor does very little. Due to my work, I was able to move out and live in NYC, Texas, Chicago and more. I moved back briefly and no surprise, going through my old hoods was depressing. The beach is known as one of the dirtiest in CA, let's keep it real. Your views are so one sided, but that's was REA do, coming from a former one I know :)

Thank you for your input. It is always good for our viewers and ourselves to hear another point of view. While we understand that Oxnard is not the right place for you many people are happy here. In everyone of our videos we discuss the pros and cons to the best of our knowledge because we want people to find the right area for them. When we did our research to move out to this area there was minimal information that I could find in one place. We only hope that our videos and people's comments help someone make an informed decision and their search a little easier.
As for the police, we have not had any negative encounters. This is not saying that there aren't negative encounters but really the first we heard about any issues with the police force was from you and another viewer.
For anyone interested in more information on the Oxnard police force this was an informative website. (policescorecard.org/ca/police-department/oxnard).

I cannot believe the excuses you are giving education. Ca is what? 35 out of 50? The tests are national wide. In Ca leaving no child behind means you graduate no matter what.
Oxnard is a very good city but it has issues. Building homeless shelters will only draw more homeless to here.

Oh come on......first, Spanish is the dominant language in Oxnard. So, if that is you, go for it. You can live and die in Oxnard and never know English. I had a friend from Pt. Hueneme who wouldn't let me walk around the block, in fact, he wouldn't either, and he is Hispanic. He told me to stay out of downtown Oxnard, said I would be shot. He lives in Camarillo now. There are many Hispanic grocery stores, hmm, wonder why? I had a neighbor in Camarillo, who was a police man in that area, and warned me to stay out. One of my doctors lives there. He drives his child to a distant public school. So if you want to hear Spanish everyday, this is the place for you! I was at a jewelry sale at a nice home next to a golf course, and I had to leave, they were treating the gold course, I was allergic. I live up the grade now, and I feel at home. Birds of a feather, stick together.
