Thanks for the video! Just did this on the wife’s crf250r with great results. One thing I did was once I removed the cover I installed the foam seat back on the bike, made cutting it and sanding it so much easier. Plus it gave me an excuse to wash the bike after, thanks!
Thanks for a great video Adam! I'm a 5'5" man and always have a problem with the bikes being too tall. This has caused many crashes when I need to step down on the low side of the trail! I've been riding for 45+ years! Going to try this on my XR200.
5'4" woman here. Kx250 not short chick friendly, like all full size bikes. We softened the suspension. Already better that way. I'm hoping taking 2 inches from the seat gets me where I need. I have watched a few videos and you're has been the best so far. Thank you for the details and proper tools.
Thanks for the information! I found 2 things that helped a lot: an electric filet knife, which has a sharper blade than a carving knife, made cutting foam easier, and also an air stapler was required to drive the staples into my seat pan. The air stapler also had a little nose which made stapling into an inside curve much easier. $30 on Amazon.
That seat looks great I wasn't going to shave my seat because I thought I would need to buy a shorter seat cover but with how nice your seat looks with the factory seat cover I might just end up trying it out Thanks
well that was fun. just got the cover put back on just got to staple it up and throw her on. it turned out pretty well though. if anyone doesn't have that cheese grinder. all i used was a serated knife and gently brushed it to smooth out the lumps. thanks for the video.
The shaved seat looks great! Thanks for the video. My goal is to fit my 5' 4" wife to a 2006 YZ250. I'm reading about the lowering link, and front fork shortening too, but others are quick to comment that this "ruins" the bike. Adam would you care to comment regarding lowering the suspension too? How about lowering the suspension a little bit? My wife will trail ride. She will rarely get the wheels of the ground. Or would a TTR-125 be a better bike for her? TTR weight = 195lb. 2006 YZ250F = 206lb.
Tim Kuitems you said yz250 is it a 250f or a yz250 .....im 6 fot and had to just lower my yz250 by unloading rear spring .....5 foot 4 is gonna be a stretch .....what about the kx 100 2 stroke i kinda like thse small bikes they got enough power too .....i got sport legs and got tired of throwing leg over seat now its sweet
Omg I'm a 5' 4" woman and I died laughing. "Better off trading the wife for a taller one" lol 😆 😂 I'm rolling. In realness, I have a kx 250 so I have the same struggles. Doing the seat. Already softened suspension. Might have to do a link kit. We will see. I'd be happy to get the balls of my feet flat. I had to for my ninja street bike. I was never flat footed as you should be with street. It was a light bike so I was good. Dirt bike being lighter, I'm hoping I can as least touch that much.
Good tutorial. I’ve done this on street bikes in the past amd it works great. I’ll be doing it soon on my XR650L as it currently fits in the TFT category (too Fkin tall!)
Thanks so much for the video. My son is about 4'9" and I was torn between a crf80 or a crf100 , and I am getting a much newer bike and better price on the crf100 but was afraid he would only be on it for 1 summer. This definitely makes my decision a lot easier and will allow him to grow more into the bike
You can avoid hitting the plastics if you poke the foam first with a bit of metal wire to see how much space you have available! Then you can plan better
You know how stunt riders have that carved seat that looks like someone can sit on the back of the main seat, is it possible to shave it to that shape??
Foam on stock seat is about 3-4 inches. I want to cut it down to about 2 inches or a bit more. Is there a different type of foam that can be that thin and still have some comfort?? What types or recommendations do you have? Thanks
gotta do what u gotta do but when u lower the seat ur causing the rider (when they're short already) to haveta extend their arms upward toward the bars instead of being up above the front end and being able to have a attack/guard stance so even tho now he can stop and put his feet down and not fall over i think its easier to just teach yourself to ride that way instead of making the modification but of course yoru skill level and your intentions are going to make a big difference. thats my 2 cents but good video and
little late to the party but might i ask what was the before seat height and after seat height? i’m 5’6 and wanting to get a ttr230 but they’re hard to find and i mighg have to get a bigger bike
Just buy a TW200 and you're all set. 31 inch seat height. If you need it lower, then pay$$$ for anew rear shock rebuild and lower the fork in the clamps, and get a seat with a little less padding but firmer foam!!! You can get it down to about 28 inches seat height and still have all whopping 6 inches of travel.
You could get a trials bike with seat kit, beta sherco gasgas great bike, sherco makes hibrid enduro called the X ride 290 but you can't get a green sticker in california, bummer.
just saying the more times you swap tools the longer it takes you, why not loosen half remove them then loosen the other half and remove them? lol or even all for that matter
Don't feel bad shorties. I'm 6 foot and about 6'1 with my boots on and the seats on all the new bikes ( I just bought a new KZ 250 f) are to fucking high! I think they make em like that for these fools that want to do supermans and all that bullshit. I just want to ride motor cross! And don't need to sit that high.
Small compressor and pneumatic stapler.. Only way to do it right. And get a pneumatic (air) stapler with an extended anvil.. Seat pans have curves, and a longer extended anvil is a time saver.
T50 staples, MONEL if you can find them ($$). 1/4" staple leg length, make sure the staples have a sharp POINT on the tips, NOT a chisel point. The sharper pointy staples penetrate much better.
Short, concise, and to the point, just like most of us watching this video. Thanks.
Thanks for the video! Just did this on the wife’s crf250r with great results. One thing I did was once I removed the cover I installed the foam seat back on the bike, made cutting it and sanding it so much easier. Plus it gave me an excuse to wash the bike after, thanks!

you can get some smaller springs, and you can lower the forks through the triple clamps!
The shaving tool is a Sure Form and is in the drywall tool section of a big box home improvement store
Underrated comment; ty for sharing your knowledge with us.
Very cool. I'm on tippy toes with my CRF and have looked for replacement seats. Glad I found this video before I bought something I didn't need to
Thank you man. 5'7" on a DRZ400e and a stock seat height, means no paddling...ever. I'll do this next weekend.
Bishop Coop 5'6 on a drz. My bike and I feel your pain lol
Thumps up if u short like me lol
great vid thank you! I hate being short...
Same
Take off slightly more than required, glue a gel pad on, follow the rest of the video and thank me
Can I ask what type of gel pad you used…thanks in advance
@@damiondeen2651 used one bought from ali express. It works
Put the cover in the oven to heat it up, it’ll stretch and fit much easier and tighter.
When it cools it will be more brittle and prone to cracks/tears.
350 for an hour
i like this guys sense of humour
after you remove the seat cover reinstall the seat back onto the bike and then cut the foam off the seat. makes it much much easier!
The Tracker Great idea. I'm gonna do this tonight on my kx 125
Thanks! This is the best seat shaving tutorial I have seen.
i used a sawzall with longer blades. worked great.
good idea
seancola I was just thinking that lol
I believe the shaving tool is a drywall rasp
Surform, same used to shape the inner foam in surfboards.
Those bikes in the back look awfully nice
That seat looks great I wasn't going to shave my seat because I thought I would need to buy a shorter seat cover but with how nice your seat looks with the factory seat cover I might just end up trying it out Thanks
I did this to 2 of my seats one on a kx80 and now a yz125.. To smooth it out use an angle grinder is a lot faster! Aside from that nice work
well that was fun. just got the cover put back on just got to staple it up and throw her on. it turned out pretty well though. if anyone doesn't have that cheese grinder. all i used was a serated knife and gently brushed it to smooth out the lumps. thanks for the video.

Probably better if you change your wife!
+Tim Kuitems , trade in wife for a taller one.
Omg I'm a 5' 4" woman and I died laughing. "Better off trading the wife for a taller one" lol 😆 😂 I'm rolling. In realness, I have a kx 250 so I have the same struggles. Doing the seat. Also want to be careful when on the sides not to angle the staples outward if your foam is thin because it can come through and stick you in the leg.
Good tutorial. I’ve done this on street bikes in the past amd it works great. I’ll be doing it soon on my XR650L as it currently fits in the TFT category (too Fkin tall!)

Awesome! I need to get as much out of my Beta Xtrainer seat as I can 🤙
Can I mail you my son's seat.lol. 😂. I need to drop 3" in order for his feet to touch the ground in his 140. Great video, on point.
You can avoid hitting the plastics if you poke the foam first with a bit of metal wire to see how much space you have available! Then you can plan better
3,042 staples lol
You know how stunt riders have that carved seat that looks like someone can sit on the back of the main seat, is it possible to shave it to that shape??
Great vid, would recommend eye and lung protection though to keep out the nasty foam particles
Good job bro. Its a ball buster for sure. LOL I need to do this on my TT250. But. Why is it no one mentions what size staples to use?
Hey, Nice Job. I've got the same bike and same problem. You made it look so eask...iuts my project for today! :)
Thank you, Kevin!
Looking to do the same to my crf250x mate thanks for this video spot on 👌
I see you take your forks to ESP, George is awesome. About to take mine to him too! Nice video.
Foam on stock seat is about 3-4 inches. I want to cut it down to about 2 inches or a bit more. Is there a different type of foam that can be that thin and still have some comfort?? What types or recommendations do you have? Thanks
Outstanding presentation! Many thanks!
I ll give a go to mine too!!! Thanks.
If I don't have an electric grinder would a finer grit sandpaper or sanding block work?
Thanks for the cool vid. I guess I have my work cut out for me! Do you usually wear an N95 mask for the grinding? That's nasty stuff.
yeah but what about comfort now? you should mention how it feels compared to stock esp after a longer trip
Great informative video, good job!!
It would be nice to glue some of that foam on the sides to make the seat 9" wide so it would be more comfort when riding.
what about making it softer ? could u ✂️ slits or holes ?
Great tutorial,thanks!
great video, maybe wear a musk shaving and sanding foam.
Can you do the final smoothing of the foam with sand paper if one does not have a wood planer ? If sand paper, what grade / grit ? Maybe 60 ?
Tomorrows job… thanks 👍🏻

Imma do this to my Road glide special
How comfortable is the ride with this mode? I’m looking to take 2 inches off my bike
little late to the party but might i ask what was the before seat height and after seat height? i’m 5’6 and wanting to get a ttr230 but they’re hard to find and i mighg have to get a bigger bike
Buen trabajo hermano!🎉
I wonder how it feels over the bumps
What stops the staples going through to the seat?
Thanks Adam, good job

what if you have no money and have a bike thats too tall?
Is that a joke??? Sell the bike that doesn't fit and get a different one... Ride safe.
Not Tellinya or you can change your dirt bike suspension to MTB suspension
This should work good on my cfr450xr
You could get a trials bike with seat kit, beta sherco gasgas great bike, sherco makes hibrid enduro called the X ride 290 but you can't get a green sticker in california, bummer.
Guys. Use a sawzall with a 12” metal blade. Trust me.
I just threw seat out .. cushion works well
What length staples do you recommend? Great vid, thanks.
half inch wide by quarter inch deep. hope I got back to you soon enough.
Perfect, thanks
Would a long serrated bread knife cut that material?
Yes, I used a bread knife and it was fine, just a bit more effort.
cool video sr.thats what I need por my honda xr 600.
Wlll this work on a crf250r?
Infinite_rc yes
Do you know of any companies that do this. I would rather just send my seat off and have them do it.
Yes, Seat Concepts will do it for you for a fee. I think I heard about $20 but don't quote me on that.
Thanks for the video.
good job
полезное видео, спасибо автору, обязательно сделаю так на своём мотоцикле.
Looks good. Cant really tell
just saying the more times you swap tools the longer it takes you, why not loosen half remove them then loosen the other half and remove them? lol or even all for that matter
im about 5'5 and coming off a quad and looking at a kx250f should I buy it
to small im 5:5 and 13 and a 150rb is perfect im sure you can lower the suspension and stuff though
What size staples you use
Sorry for the seizure below...supposed to be look so easy...it's my project for today!
How do i lower my 2000 kx250. It is to tall for me i have short legs. Im 5 8"
I'm 6' on the dot, but my seat just ain't comfy lmao give my ass a nice ol spot to plop down
Don't feel bad shorties.
How tall are you? I am 5'8 and wanting to get a YZ-125
Dave Kreigh ur fall enough go for it
How tall are you
how tall are you?
use sand paper to sand down edges
Shot good vid
How many bikes do you need lol
ive tried hand staplers they cant penetrate that plastic
Small compressor and pneumatic stapler.. Only way to do it right. And get a pneumatic (air) stapler with an extended anvil.. Seat pans have curves, and a longer extended anvil is a time saver.
Years ago I bought 3 different hand staplers and none worked. Air powered is the only way to go.
short kings unite
When using the Turkey Carver sounds like a scooter
wear a mask the foam particles can really need you up
Thanks mum
Frustrating, I need to increase the seat height by just the material you cut-up and threw away!
bad Mon 👏👏👏
Hi dear I’m pakistan good job ❤
Great👌
also WAY better looking , not that it has enything to do on a trial or cross terf but....
Good vid
This is some hillbilly shit......... .... I like it
what size staples should you use?
T50 staples, MONEL if you can find them ($$). 1/4" staple leg length, make sure the staples have a sharp POINT on the tips, NOT a chisel point. The sharper pointy staples penetrate much better.
yes daddy shave me down there
dog 8 wtf haha
good jop
do mine
3042 staples later
I like a shaved chick!
Me too
Pete Messenger yer maws beavers a baldy wan
I love bush and lot of it..
