They have them in black now. But a white one could easily be spray painted any colour. Thanks for this video! Mine didn't come with instructions so this was super helpful.
FYI: All IKEA instruction manuals are available online to view and download. Not sure about discontinued items but I suspect they're floating around somewhere on the Internet too.
love the ingenuity with the pillows. That's how you do it. I'm the same. I'm always trying to put together something heavy like it's a one man job. lol.
Thank you! The only video I found that shows how to finish the calyx on top of the legs. As of now, I’m sure you know that it does come in other colors, but white. Luckily, since mine is black I was able to get blac legs. Picture in instructions show attaching the “wheel” with the screws. Fortunately your video proved I was right and the “wheel” actually goes into the holes.
The step at 0:57 doesn't work on mine. The screws don't screw in all the way and become impossible to screw in further, especially with the zero maneuverability you have with the bar blocking your hand from being in position. My base is super wobbly because of this
The same thing happened to me! It's because I was using the wrong screws. The set comes with 3 different screws(not counting the adjustable feet screws), and two of them are nearly identical. Really examine all the screws to make sure you use the right ones. Of the two shorter screws, you want to use the one with the rounded head. Hope this makes sense 😂
Great video Eric, thanks! Do you think it would be possible to install this not under but on top of the kallax unit (in order to put a few things on top of the kallax unit but under a top shelf that I would add to the underframe), do you think that is possible? I get that the underframe would not be attached to the kallax unit in that setup, it would just rest on it). What is the usable height under the frame ? Many thanks!
Thank you so much for this video ! Can I ask do you think this is safe enough to go in a playroom ? My concern is if the unit can fall on a kid since it’s not actually attacked and just sitting on the frame. What do you think ? TIA
The unit itself is heavy so it shouldn't topple over but you should consider anchoring it to the wall just to be safe. You can find wall anchors online.
perhaps in the near future the stand/feet might be available in the different colours of the KALLAX . Otherwise it could be painted the colour to match.
This is really helpful; thanks! Do you know if the base is only for use with the 4x2 unit? I have a 4x4 unit. I’d like to move it to a new location but there’s a floor vent I can’t block. These legs could be a good solution if they’re rated for the 4x4....
Great vid, thanks. Did anyone find their Kallax wobbles on the underframe. It didn't click into the underframe like the instructions said either. If so, did anyone find a fix?
Where did you get the bins for your kallax? I see you got them from Ikea but I’m not finding them. What is the name please? Found them. I’m persistent. Thank you for video. Just purchased the 9 cube organizer with the base. Can’t wait to put it together. Great video and design choices. BTW the name of the bins is Knipsa.
whelp I ended up with the bottom of my kallax on the side. But I did get those round guys bolted in and manhandled it into the stand. It's sort of in the corner, no one will see that odd colored bottom piece. I'm exhausted. Should ship with a miniature crane. appreciate your video.
Same here at first, but only because the base was unbalanced which you can fix by slightly unscrewing the plastic pads in legs. I got 3 Kallax units on base on legs quite firmly.
@@EricTMeraki When I read the website, I assumed the 7 1/8" as the overall height of the legs, not from the floor to the underside of the new frame (floor to bottom of base frame, not floor to bottom of kallax). Are you able to confirm with a tape measure? This would be great to know what I can slide underneath.
It should be. The kallax unit I have it pretty heavy so it's not easy to tip over. That being said you should look into wall anchors for extra precaution.
The KALLAX is really heavy. It would take a lot of force for it to become separated. I struggled to even lift it on the stand in the first place lol. I think that's why IKEA didn't bother to screw the base of the stand to the KALLAX.
Am i the only one running into the issue with the 4 rounded corner pieces? I want to put them on the bottom side, but i dont have any screw holes on the sides of my build. The 4x4 kallax unit has a clearly defined bottom piece since its the only non black piece, but the sides of my build dont have screws. Only the top and bottom. Any ideas whats going on here?
Having the exact same issue. I've went over it 10 times to make sure it's right. The brown color on side instead of underneath if i use the holes as directed. Sucks. I'm going to buy black paint and spray it as it's not worth to disassemble....again
It’s only me thinking the fixing between the kallax and the base as non existent is a bit insecure? I wish I could fix it, not only rest on top of the base. I’m confronting myself right now with this issue…
@@EricTMeraki the holes are there they were just omitted. It’s a known Ikea DIY. I actually recorded a small video and going to try and upload it to TH-cam ha! It may not be as nice as yours tho
Well, drilling into the not-wood :P If it was actual wood I'd have no concerns at all about adding legs, but since it's literally cardboard, it's good to get official legs with proper metal supporting it all.
They have them in black now. But a white one could easily be spray painted any colour.

Ywc!

Wow you did it. So creative with the cushions
👍
Just bought this thing and it’s weird how no one on TH-cam as a tutorial on how to build this actual unit from start to finish!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks a lot man ! From Belgium
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching!

Hmm may be a bad part. Best to check with IKEA.
I have the same issue, I just got mine today and it appears the second hole is too small for it to go in all the way 😢
We are having the same issue. It is way too wobbly to put a shelf on. Did you get it figured out?
@Nicole LaBrie Yes, I had put in the part incorrectly. I can't recall exactly what was wrong because it's been over a month

awesome. getting mine tomorrow. for my desk and mixer
Easy and straight forward
Thanks for the info on the assembly, it helped.

I get what you're saying, not sure I would recommend it though given it's not how the under frame is supposed to work.
Hi, is your kallax white or high gloss white? Wondering how well it matches the white.
White

Will this work for the Expedit shelves - earlier version of Kallax - with the slight dimensional differences?
Definitely not. Dimensions are pretty exact for this.
Too bad they aren’t available in store or for delivery. I can’t get them in San Diego 🥺
I had to wait a while before it was available for delivery for me too lol good luck!

It comes in black in Canada. I bought it yesterday

Mine doesn't wobble but it has a lot of stuff in it to the weight holds it down.

I can't find it either on the website right now. I think they may have discontinued it.
No news about the 5x5 unit ??
Idk

Could add wheels as well. Thanks for the video.
I don't have plans to do that. Thanks for watching.
I cant believe it just sits on top. I don't find it safe and it moves a little when i open drawers. I think I will return the stand.
Do what you need to do.

How much clearance is there from the floor to the underside of the unit with the legs?
Height: 7 1/8 " is from the official website

I just measured, it's around 5 and half inches.

😊 Thank for the explanation
Any time!
Hi, does the Kallax 2x4 with under frame sag?
It's a metal frame so it shouldn't sag.
My base seems rickety. Can I use an electric screwdriver to tighten?
That should be okay. Just be careful and don't strip the screws.
Hi! Do you think that it is safe for children??? I want one for my doughter s bedroom. Thanks

Since the top just rests on the base, is there a chance it could become separated?

That's also from IKEA
So does it lock in place once u place in stand?
The one I have the weight of the kallax keeps it stable. Not sure if the new version is different though.
u could of toolk draws out and done it that way and placed the legs frame on top screwed in then turned it over lol

I’m confronting myself right now with this issue…
I could see the perspective you're coming from
Can this fit a 55 inch tv
Should be able to. Just make sure the the legs of the tv work with the dimensions of the kallax.
There are actually four holes for mounting the legs to the shelf to secure it… you missed the four screws.
Thanks for watching. It's possible or maybe they added new steps to it. The video was when it first came out so they may have updated the model.
@@EricTMeraki the holes are there they were just omitted. It’s a known Ikea DIY. I actually recorded a small video and going to try and upload it to TH-cam ha! It may not be as nice as yours tho

It's not supposed to be a Philips screwdriver, but a Pozidriv
