Having put IKEA furniture together for a long time I have to say IKEA are amazing with how they continue to improve the way you put their furniture together.
I was pretty disappointed that my IKEA lists these kallax shelves as out of stock. So today I took a drive down there to see what they have and, tada! They're actually in stock! I'm super happy! Thanks for this video about them.
That is one of my favorite units that Ikea puts out. You can set it up vertically or horizontally and they come with attachments to screw them to the wall so that they don't fall over. I've used the doors and a variety of baskets and other "stuff" holders, all of which keep them looking neat. They are also very easy to clean. You can alter the color by painting with chalk paint or by using wall paper. I've seen them used as a bed base (somewhere on YT there is a great video on how to do that) with plenty of storage. I found them easy as pie to put together - and I have arthritis in both hands. I do like the idea of those drawers.
I’m glad you like these too. Seems like there are never ending applications for them. I think we have six of them in our house. And yeah, the drawers are my favorite way to use the cubby. Keeps things clean looking and is a good use of the space.
Can you explain how you were able to install the drawers all next to each other? When I tried to do so, the screws are too long and wouldn't allow the drawer unit to lay flush again the cubby.
Kallax units are the best. I have a 2x4 horizontally in my living room with the TV on top, and I have have a 2x4 standing up in my bathroom, with a 2x2 on top but I had to remove on of the end panels and just balance it -- to wedge it in, I have a piece of wood on top to hold it down from the ceiling. They're simply amazing, but I wish they came with a one deep/tall drawer option because the two drawers have short sides.
I have the same units, I have a few ikea storage boxes the come with these unit but like to know if I can add the kallax doors with the storage I have already got, without the extra inserts.
Would you happen to know if it's possible to like seperate each square or some other way to adjust the shelf to make it smaller in any way? I have a space that my mother didnt measure before buying the shelf and it's just a tiny bit too wide to fit in the closet she wants it in. Thanks in advance for any suggestions it's a kallas 30 by 30 inch 4 cube square shelf btw
If you only need to adjust it by an inch or two, it's probably feasible. IKEA typically only includes "solid" fiberboard on the ends of each piece of their thicker boards (the outside frame). You can cut into these a little bit to shorten the piece but if you go too far you'll get to the semi-hollow area that can't support any screws or fasteners. In your case, you could try cutting off the needed amount (ideally from both ends of the boards you need to shorten) and then redrilling the needed holes. Not the simplest thing to do but it could make the piece work for your mother's space. Best of luck!
Each unit comes with mounting hardware for just this purpose. You would then have to install doors if you wanted it to be enclosed but that's absolutely possible with the out of the box options. You'll want to be sure to fasten it to the studs in the wall or use sturdy drywall anchors (assuming you're mounting this to drywall) and you should be all set.
Watch out Ikea tips over If you have kids Ikea furniture falls apart I would use wood glue and brackets so it last longer Some one said Ikea has carboard in the middle Like it's tables but you would have to cut it in half to see
Not hardwood, no. IKEA almost always uses a compressed fiber board (like MDF) or they'll use a semi-hollow structure where it's a hard surface on the outside and a honeycomb cardboard pattern on the inside. They've figured out how to make their stuff unusually sturdy for not being real wood. I've seen them use real wood (but not hardwood) in their drawers, tabletops and other areas but that's more the exception than the rule.
Right? It's almost a pop culture reference nowadays - having to assemble IKEA furniture. In my experience, a cordless driver makes the whole thing a 100x less terrible 😁
This is totally necessary since they don't provide anything like a set of instructions. I mean, would it be so hard for them to include a small booklet of instructions in picture form so that it can transcend language barriers allowing anyone to follow along and put them together. Why is it so hard for them to include that? Oh wait..... No wonder you have 370k subscribers and only 2600 views after so many days. How many of those subs are bought bots?
Much of my content is geared toward the TH-cam search engine. Go to your TH-cam search bar and type in "How to assemble IKEA" and look at all of the auto suggested results, then try them - most of the resulting videos have hundreds of thousands of views. TONS of people want to be shown how to put this stuff together rather than rely solely on the illustrated manual. This content isn't alway the most exciting stuff, and it's certainly not for everyone but when you're looking for a specific how-to concept and my videos can help, that's where I get views. Over 50 million views, actually. My content doesn't typically rack up millions of views in a week or anything but it often does over the years. It's called evergreen content. If you're not interested in it, just don't watch it. But when you need it, I'll often have the content that DIYers are searching for.

Thanks for the tip about the legs - I want to use one of these as a TV stand but it's going over a floor vent so I need some kind of riser

Just what I needed!
Thank y so much l just got the kallax didn't know they were drawers will get them

You should be able to, yes. If they're Kallax, they're compatible.
@@LRN2DIY thank you
I want to know, if I mount to the wall, will the mounting hardware impede the inserts?
Not at all, just remove the plastic covers and they will fit
What's the size of the screw hole in the leg?
I feel the most important information is that IKEA does not use Philips screws, but Pozidriv. You will have far better results with Pozidriv drivers.

How can I hang it on the wall to make cheap cabinets for the laundry room?

Are the back of the drawers finished? Would be seen from both side as room divider.
coorect thats why you builda backing made of real wood, and attach it on the back.
Thank you.
Hi, which container fits perfectly in the kallax opening from Ikea? Thanks!
Lekman, drona, bladdra, dronjons
Watch out Ikea tips over
If you have kids
Ikea furniture falls apart
I would use wood glue and brackets so it last longer
Some one said Ikea has carboard in the middle
Like it's tables but you would have to cut it in half to see
Do they have clear plexiglass glass doors?
Where did you purchase the legs?
Hi! Did you use just 4 legs on the unit?
I did, just the four. You could certainly do six on this but I sit on this thing all the time and it still feels pretty sturdy.
How do you get the plastic rap of unit
Are they hardwood cabinet?
