- Today is the first round of the current apartment hunt. Saney has agreed to show Franc, Sarah and myself a bunch of great apartments here in Siem Reap. Come along to see how it turns out
Franc & Sarah made a video for the day as well. It is amazing. Here is the link. Please check them out if you haven't already • Siem Reap CONDO and AP...

I pay $160 for my 1 bedroom apartment, just off the NR6 opposite Psar Samaki. It has everything I need. Washing machine, big fridge and a wonderful landlord. I have lived here for 2.5 years and my rent has not increased in that time.
There are definitely some great values here and a great landlord is always a bonus. My current apartment has an amazing landlord too. If I wasn't doing TH-cam and wanted to showcase more of the city, then I would stay longer. Haha
Is that a 3, 6, or 12 month lease??
Everything i was looking at was 3 months but can be upgraded to 6months to a year. If you go longer, try to negotiate a better rate.
Good selections to choose from in SR. Spring has sprung here with a lot of rain and 🌺🌹 🌼🌱. Peace from Minnesnowta 🎉
We tried to show a decent cross section. We saw so many different units, that my head was swimming when we got back.
Spring and fall are my favorite seasons back home.
I really like your shotgun approach of viewing several different apartments with various style and price range. I can't remember if you mention the area these apartments were located and if they all were in the same part of town. Siem Reap has many wonderful options of apartments style and price range, (very impressive). Looking forward to your next video...Respectfully
I don't put addresses or mention areas because it's more to showcase the options and not to sell the apartments. If anyone wants to see them, then the realtor can help out. Plus things move so quickly here, even if I did have all that information, it would be pointless. Like the last apartment. Haha.
I like this shotgun approach too, and I do it a little different in the next video in a few days.
These videos are a lot of work but really fun to make.
Great Prices. Lots of options. The last one is amazing. ( dam )
Look at this and think what I pay for a two bedroom in Canada. 2k per month
Could live off the difference there.
@mikk1332 You need to check out > South Paths - Nelson from Canada - in the Philippines --- and he's just happy as hell paying $90 USD / mo. rent for his 'new' 2 br !!!
Yep. I paid way too much for what I had in Toronto. Well over 2K for a basement next to the train tracks. You had to pay extra for the vibrating floors when the trains flew past. Haha
I can rent for almost a year here for what I paid for a month there.
@@KB3TLEThere are definitely some great deals out there. I've heard that there are especially good deals in the Philippines
Philippines prices are going up according to some of my TH-cam friends there. I spent 6 weeks in Cebu City and hated it. The food sucks. English spoken and "eager" young women are the only things it has going with now that I know how cheap and hassle-free the Cambodian retirement visa is. October can't come quick enough!
1st floor or elevator, no stairs, indoor pool, small gym one bd … great location to market and restaurants… can do $500/ month. I like the last one with the garden…
There are definitely options for you with that budget. I have seen a few that are still in town, but just a little on the outskirts that are ground floor with great amenities. I would need a scooter to live in one of those, but I'm considering getting one this summer, so I may get one of the further away places next. Check with a realtor here with your requirements and they can help.
Great places and definitely value for money. I love, love, apartments #4 and #5. Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Those were both great for sure. I was hoping that either location had a 1 bedroom, but they didn't. I still loved the units though.
@@FrugalWanderer Sean, thanks to your videos, Cambodia is now on my radar. I can definitely see my retirement $$ and SS going an extremely long way there.
@@LarryFournillier yeah. It's easier to live here on a limited budget than back at home. I find my quality of life is better here as well.
The last one !!! ---- Going to appeal to a lot of people apparently ? --- '''If''' > it never floods ? --- My kind of place - maybe - even a bit more than I actually - 'need' ? 🤗
Yeah. That last one was definitely special. The back patio was a feature I loved. There was a reason I wanted to see it again and I was sad that it was taken right away. I understood though. Haha
All are good… no stairs, pool and gym. Greens , don’t want too big living areas due to cost of cooling.. last one checked all the boxes..
Yeah. That one checked a lot of my boxes too. I was going to try and get that unit for myself, but someone smarter than me decided faster. Haha
Great video my man! Short and sweet and to the point. Sorry for us getting in the way of many of the shots! haha
You never got in the way of any of my shots. It's calld a cameo. Haha. It was a great day and I am so glad that Saney was able to get us to as many places as he did. It was quite the cross section of the city.
Like the indoor pool at 1st floor with garden. You can ask the landlord to fix drainage if flood is an issue.
I checked out the walls and I didn't see any marks that would have shown water damage. I was more concerned with tracking mud into the unit. I did love the unit. Especially the back patio. I could enjoy coffee there everyday
The last two apartments were gorgeous, especially when considering the price. Siem Reap looks charming. The only thing that concerns me is the intense heat and humidity.
I love those apartments too. So many great options here too.
The heat and the humidity can get bad, but I grew up in Florida, so I'm fairly familiar with this kind of weather. I was just surprised by how quickly I was able to adapt to it again.
As strange as it may sound, you'd probably find Malaysia somewhat cooler. Wetter, but a little cooler. Way cleaner air than Thailand, too. I don't know how Malaysia's air quality compares to Cambodia's.
I just subscribed. You're so close to 1000. congratulations!!
Thank you for your support. I was at 900 a few days ago. It's ticking up faster than I thought it would. It's so exciting.
Wow, great apartment goes very quickly… almost 1 k subs soon.., congrats 🎈
Definitely a quick turnaround on that one apartment. Haha. Closing in on 1k way faster than I expected the past few weeks. Thanks for helping me get there.
Those apartments are beautiful. If you get a chance, could you show some cheaper places. Are the prices you are showing US or Canadian dollars?
The prices are all in US dollars. There are certainly cheaper places, but to see them, I would need to do it all myself as the realtor seems to stop at just around the $200 mark. Once I get a motorcycle, I should be able to do even more budget options.
One bedroom in Venice Beach of City of Los Angeles is about $3,000 to $5,000. When you exit the building, you will see many drug users and homeless people. Look like you got a better deal in Cambodia. Lunch will set you back $20 to $40.00, not 4,000 reil ($1.00).
Yeah. I'll take the cost of the units here with the dollar breakfast and a much better view when leaving the apartment. Haha I do not miss the west.
My room here in Korea close to Seoul and rent for about 250 bucks and can't even get 2 by 2 square meter.
So I think in Korea they're basically thought that for about 1 square meter per 100 US dollars if you wanna rent, and that's crazy
So I guess I won't be moving to Seoul anytime soon then. Haha
@@FrugalWanderer Korea has a really higher salary, but everything's else suck
Good morning Sean hope there is cheaper than that one bedroom rent you right better stay second floor incase flooding. Very important points, it is better in they have back up generator for power outage. Combodia is 🔥
There are many more options that are more and less expensive to rent. I am showcasing the middle of the road. Places with more western style and preferred locations and so the rent is a bit higher than other places. These ones also all have generators.
I like #2 . Added a balcony and charged $50 less , plus maybe catch some breeze . Same building same neighborhood . Only questions are really where is it in relation to everything and how long the leases are . Can't help but pick a winner with all these choices ! The one that got swooped in on I was actually thinking mosquitoes from when I saw all the greenery on the patio by the bedroom . Need some Tight seals on those doors and windows . Pool would be nice but it wouldn't be $250 .
The first 2 apartments are in the Wat Kesararan area maps.app.goo.gl/XEVsyMV5NjJ9Qqm89
A pice down from the main road to be quiet but close enough to everything in town. I also liked the 2nd one because of the balcony and the cool breeze. Also with being a unit back from the road it was even quieter.
I didn't even think of the mosquitos on the ground floor. I haven't had any issues with them since I got here, but that could always change quickly. Haha
Many apartment options.. looking forward to your next apartment
I'm excited for my new place. I'm moving in this weekend and I can't wait to get in and get settled. I don't have a lot of stuff, so it shouldn't take long at all. Haha
Great video, I'm going to be renting an apartment soon so am really liking the apartment tours. Seeing some of what's out there, I'm sure I'll have no problem finding a cool place.
Yeah. That's what I'm trying to showcase. I put together the list of properties to see the night before and he was able to schedule them all to be seen the next day. If I had wanted any of them, I just had to let him know and I would be able to move in the next day. So you could effectively only get a hotel for a night or two and have an apartment. Haha
Sonny did well.. great selections. Like the one that got away.. bummer
He always does a great job. The great thing about the apartment that got away is that they are usually only rented short term, so if it becomes available again Saney will let me know and if I want to, I can get that one in a few months. Haha
The problem with high ceiling and large bedroom , expensive to Maintain a Air Con ,
I agree. I have a large room with high ceilings now and it takes a while to cool it down. A good ceiling fan does a great job keeping things cool.
Dallas tx we have power outage the past two days. Still some areas no power from storm
I heard that you were getting some wild weather and the power grid in Texas is worse than the one here in Cambodia. Haha. Stay safe.
@@FrugalWanderer yes brother so called industrial complex country haha we need free energy they have it they put in the shelves greed haha.
I just subscribe to your channel . I have watched most of your videos, they were very informative of city, people, and the culture.
Wow. Thank you so much for checking out so many videos. I'm glad that you have enjoyed them. I really enjoy making videos, especially when I get to showcase such amazing places and people.
Great personality and voice. Subscribed. That last apartment was a total winner at that price.
Thanks for the kind words and I completely agree with you about the last apartment. Too bad someone grabbed it before I was able to. Haha
Great tour of apartments, do more if you look more please
I have another apartment video coming out tomorrow and I will do these everytime I go shopping for a new place. Right now it will be every few months.
Thanks for sharing. Nice apartments. On TH-cam there are some Australians that have a Siem Reap channel. For Reil. They also have some good apartment hunting videos. One thing they mention is they prefer a very small bedroom since that is what they will air condition at night and the smaller the more economical as far as electric usage. They also try to avoid units whose windows face the hot sun. I probably would also inquire about a ground floor apartment flooding. I have seen water over the curb there but I have missed any serious flooding. I do know that mosquitos would be worse on the ground floor but utilities might be less expensive.
I am a fan of for riel and have been watching their content way before I arrived here. Their weekly news is wonderful.
Small bedrooms are definitely a better idea when it comes to cooling down an apartment. I personally sleep with a fan on at night and turn on the AC for a little bit when I wake up to relax with while I get ready.
My current apartment is on the 3rd floor and is west facing. The sunsets are amazing, but I does get hot in the afternoon.
I'm not really worried about flooding here. They have really worked on the flooding issue and it's nothing like it used to be. My only real concern would be that the dirt road out front would lead to more dirt getting tracked in and when it gets wet, more mud.
I haven't had any issues with bugs as of yet. They do spray for them in a lot of areas and the only things I see are small flies. Not a bad deal to me.
G'Day mate , Apartment hunting aarrgghh , getting what you like as can be difficult with choice , so find an area you like then go hunting !! have fun ..
Catchya...
Yeah. There are a lot of choices here for sure. I had a few properties in mind for myself to look at. The others were to show my friends the area and what's available. Plus on video it's nice to see a broader choice. If it was just for mez I would have booked three to see and called it a day. Haha
It is so easy here compared to Oz. These prices are US, so add 40%. After all the asbestos and weatherboard shacks I have endured in WA, it is nice to live somewhere decent at quarter the price. 5 years in.
@@grahamthompson2594 anywhere asbestos free is a plus. Haha
@@FrugalWanderer in 1978 I took my visiting American girlfriend up north for a drive . I remember swimming in a pond next to a giant slag heap of asbestos in a place called Wittenoom. Where they mined it. At the time I didn't know her uncle was the US Secretary of Defence and her dad was head of the World Bank. We're still both ok. Planning a 2 day ride up to Kulen and Koh Ker with a few bods if you want to rent a bike and come along let me know. Cheers
@@grahamthompson2594 that's quite the tale. Haha. When are you planning the trip. I would definitely be interested.
Sean: I assume the prices are in USD?
Yes. Cambodia uses two currencies. The US dollar and the Riel. Apartments are always listed in USD. I don't bother converting it to Canadian. It's pointless when the majority of my viewers are American. Haha
They all look awesome, that price is incredible for what you’d get in Chicago that would cost at least triple
Man. Chicago sounds reasonable. Haha. I was paying almost 10 times the price for an awful basement apartment in Toronto.
Regardless. The prices of things here is much more reasonable than it was back home. I just wanted to showcase the options because I had no idea how nice the places were here until I started looking in person.
@@FrugalWanderer lol ya i mean i should of said itd be for renting a room XD and in a not great area >.< but the city is fun
I was in Chicago a few times in the late 80s and it was a blast back then. I never had a bad time there
I'm almost certain that I saw you today walking near the hospital road. Your hat gave it away haha. I was in a tuktuk or else I'd have said hello
Chances are pretty good it was me. I was out raking a walk in that area this morning. I try to get in at least 10k steps a day. So I end up covering a lot of the area every day.
If you spot me again and you aren't on a tuk tuk, feel free to stop and say hi.
Seriously considering moving from the Philippines and trying out Siem Reap and it's very much your fault. =)
lucky that I only have like 2 suitcases after almost 2 years in phillipines , i usually give away most of the clothes anyway when i relocate as it's so cheap in se-asia to buy clothes and shoes
.
The standard in Siem Reap really seems to have been raised so much in recent years that I'm actually craving it and it's much closer to all my friends in Bangkok
I'm sorry/not sorry to influence your decision to consider coming here. Haha.
I was pleasantly surprised by how different it was than I expected it to be. I'm so glad that I took that trip a few months ago.
I agree with you about the clothes. I needed a new wardrobe because of the weight loss and it wasn't expensive for me to get all new shirts for myself. Haha
@@FrugalWanderer im pretty tired of the " slow things complications and all the problems in Philippines nowdays" and was thinking moving back to thailand but hey few oof test months in siem reap wont hurt me =)
Hilarious prices 🤩
Yeah. It's crazy what you can get for the money you spend here.
Great videos. I’d heard Cambodia had gone expensive. I have a dream of renting my house out here in Europe and just escaping over there. Looks like heaven.
It's not expensive here in Siem Reap. It may be different in Phnom Penh, but I doubt it. You can spend a lot of money if you want to, but also you can just as easily find a decent place, eat the local food and spend less than 1000 a month. I've done it consistently for three months now.
👌🙏
Thank you
Please make note of and show air conditioners, which are VERY important.
I try to point them out in the video, but I will pay more attention in the future.
This video has made us realise that Bangkok is a rip off. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yep. The quality for the price here is pretty great. My place in Bangkok was cheaper, but it was nowhere near as comfortable as any of the places I've seen here. I can't wait to show off my new place to you two when you get here.
Bangkok = +15 million ppl siem reap is about 250000..see the difference there?=)
@@gmm5550 a couple of zeros? Haha. Bangkok is a great city, but Siem Reap is just more laid back and you can relax here. I didn't relax as well in Bangkok.
@@FrugalWanderer Its more fair to compare the rent condo prices in pattaya as both are similar in size..they are pretty much the same..and the condo standard in siemreap has really getting good last years.
@@gmm5550 I never looked in Pattaya. I only went there one day to visit Franc and Sarah and I didn't go very far. We ended up spending the day talking at a restaurant and a coffee shop. Haha
Personally, I'd be afraid to rent a house or main-floor apartment anywhere in the tropics. I imagine a snake would walk in through an open door, or something. Less privacy, too.
I haven't seen any snakes here yet. Mostly lizards and dogs around. I don't think a snake would have much chance with all of the dogs to be honest. Haha
What an idiot @sebastianhamilton5892.
Crossing the border from Thailand into Cambodia, can you actually get the E class visa there and then, or does that take several day's to process??
Looks like a tourist visa is $30 and E class visa is $35, but I don't know if that's outdated info from the web
Retirement visa is $290 USD.
You can get the e-visa at the border and it is $35. There is no delay. It just took a few minutes to process through. I do have a few videos on my channel discussing and showing the process if you want to check them out.
I just got in to SIEM Reap last night,
Would you like to meet for lunch or coffee??
I'm staying by the Babel guest house on what bo road.
Told there's a Starbucks or brown coffee shop somewhere about 2km from me, but not sure ...
Let me know if you have the time, today or over the weekend
I'll give you email or whattapp as i don't yet have a local phone number
It was so cool to randomly bump into you on the street. Fate has a funny way of putting you exactly where you need to be, when you need to be there. Haha
Excellent, thank you so much for the super info you provided 🙏😂
