You do good work with the videos you put out, thank you. I’m especially fond of the refreshing take you often have, paraphrasing, “Is it the most efficient thing to do? No. Is it cool and should you do it because it’s cool? Oh absolutely.”
A Fellow IRON WARRIOR 👍GREAT WELL DONE! Seldom seen thorough job for new players explaining basic units to start with... I hope alot of NEW PLAYERS see this.... makes easy for them to get started and gives them confidense in thier first build as well as tips on the use.🙌 🍻
im surprised you didnt mention using them to convert characters. From my box i was able to use 5 of them to make a master of signals, a champion, a delegatus, a herald, and an apothecary. it only took a few bits from my bits box
I've just been doing this with the new MkIII big box. Coming back to this (invaluable) video for some ideas, but this is a good use - I've built a Herald, Apothecary, Champion and Master of Signals using parts from the box and also from the mountain of space marines bitz I've accrued over the years. Veterans are a great conversion project. I used 5 marines from the box to slap some spare power swords, mauls, axes - just makes a really cool looking unit that stands out from the rather deliberately clone-like look of all the tactical squads in an army.
Good video mate this is a lot of fun to listen to. I think scoring units will be a big deal in this edition and I've seen some lists with like 2 scoring units and a billion tanks, if you concentrate fire on the units you can in a lot of scenarios basically not lose the game anymore. Great summary
Cool, starting to see now why 40 tac marines wasn't just filler for the big box. Got the special weapons upgrades and a rhino, although also have an old Blood Angels tac squad sprue with enough bits for some MKVI and MKIV guys.
Something easy to overlook about the Veteran Sergeant is that they can take both a Lightning Claw and a Thunder Hammer, which means you get an extra attack since both are Specialist Weapons, and allows you to either slice standard marines to ribbons, or smash Terminators/Vehicles/Dreadnoughts/Characters to pieces. I'd also suggest taking a Grav Gun or two, purely to give Dreadnoughts and Vehicles a headache.
Interesting video mate. I'm going Space Wolves, so I do get access to Grey Stalkers abd Grey Slayers too which are both more expensive but do get more rules. I have no idea which of these units to go for, but after watching this maybe use tac squads in the background
Just found the channel, slowly getting back into gaming. Really enjoy the format and the channel in general. Keep it up buddy, some awesome stuff! Excited to see what you do next.
Adding a scope or a bigger magazine bolter (or not) gets you a Seeker squad. And at 18” have a fair chance of deleting a character or a good chunk of power armor marines from a unit. I’m running a recon force so you have a few ideas on what to do with the compulsory recon squads, thank you.
I'd suggest using spare bits to make a squad of Despoilers too. They get some great bonuses for Spite and Heart of the Legion, and are a great cheap force to throw at an objective held by an enemy tactical squad. Stick them in a Rhino with an Apothecary, and they can be a real thorn in the side and great mini Marine mincer. Give that Rhino a Multimelta too, to draw heavy fire while acting as a distracting bit of cover and annoying suicide bomb against enemy armour, and you can cause some real havoc while taking an objective your opponent thought was secure.
From the videos I listened to, I got the impression that you probably are playing with not enough terrain on the table. Shorter lines of sight and more things to slow down units really help armies like Death Guard to shine and give Tactical Support Squads a big plus compared to Heavy Support Squads, based on the fact that they can actually move and find new avenues of attack. Additionally that would alter your point of a Nuncio-Vox on a Tac Squad to basically "give re-rolls to all blasts in the army" as a single vox rarely would have enough in its sights for something like that. And you maybe would appreciate movement reactions more then.
I play with a significant amount of terrain, far more than most events or most people will ever use! Nuncio voxes very easy to cover multiple primary targets with one unit, TSS being able to move for “new angles of attack” is a nice idea but in practice your opponent is trying to shoot you too so you can often see his units back. LoS is definitely something you should factor in, but its not as hard to hit most units as you’re making it sound - and when it is, it normally means that your opponent is hiding them out of the fight!
Great vid. Definitely has given me ideas for my second block of 20 dudes. Looking like a 5 man support squad, 5 man vet, 5 recon and 5 Heavy. Really like the idea of the Recon team.
Probably worth saying recon melta bombs are 5pts per model not for the whole unit so it does substantially increase the cost if you have ten (but probably worth it for taking out a tank)
Ugh, i misread “entire unit may take” and didnt get the “per model” on the end of 5 points. Makes that idea a lot less attractive but still fun and worth having 2 guys with them for the price youd normally pay for one sergeant I guess!
Another thing with recon squads is that they can take bayonets if equipped with bolters. Alternatively, swap out the bolters for chainswords and now you've effectively got an infiltrating Despoiler Squad.
Very helpful perspective and take on the various space marine units. You didn’t talk about despoiler or assault squads in this video. Is that because there aren’t good ways to upgrade the AoD box to these combat options?
I am setting 15 to 20 MkVI marines with magnetised special weapons and probably 10 for the heavy weapons (but not the one out now) That leaves me 10 to 15 marines to spare and most likely 30 beakie helmet. Bulk of my force will be in MkIII or terminator armour.
Awesome video very helpful! A friend of mine seems to swear by breachers over tacticals. Is there a case for this or is she just paying 55 points (I think) extra for just an invulnerable save?
Right now there isnt really any technical reason to use them when you can have volkite, even on imperial fists. But as soon as more 4+ save stuff enters the game for sure they will be! But in either case if you want to use them a big squad of heavy machine gun guys is cool either way :)
Either forge world or convert them - id suggest the latter as theyll match your mk6s and it costs a lot less! Even just a paint job in white would do the job really
Great video. What do you think about 20 Tacticals with chainswords and an apothecary. I'm planning to do that with Mark 3 for my Death Guard and a Sergeant with Power Scythe, maybe artificer armor and/or melter bombs. And also what about a siege-breaker next to a heavy support squad.
Chainswords are very expensive, id probably go with chain bayonets instead. Plus i think they look cooler. On the other hand if you prefer chainswords for cool factor, go with them for sure! Siege breaker and heavy support is great for sure, a bit wasted unless theyre missile launchers really though. Can also work ok on autocannons i guess because sunder and rend are great together!
@@Hearesy I was thinkng about a unit of 10 lascannons next to the siege-breaker. The problem with the bayonetts is they are only included in the starter box for the beakies, not sure how they will look on Mark 3 or how difficult it will be to get some but thank you!
I'm totally new to the whole Warhammer universe and I'm starting.with Heresy. I'm gonna play World Eaters. I have 10 mkvi that i would play as a tactical squad with bolters. Can i give them chainaxes? The other 10 i would like to give Volkite Caliver and give them chainaxes too. Also possible? Then i have 10 mkiii that i also play as a tactical squad with chainsword and chainbayonettes on the bolter. Possible? Your help would be greatly appreciated :))
There’s a lot of different things in there - I’d highly recommend picking up the heretic astartes book as you’ll need it to play anyway and it will explain all of these for you!
@@Hearesy thanks for the reply. That's the problem. My friend has the book, but since we both are total noobs we can't make sense of half the stuff that's written in there. But we'll keep trying :)
I see! As long as they have a chainsword they can change to axe, so you have to pay the 5 points each for tac marines to have the sword so you can turn it into the axe. Chain bayonets are 2 handed so no point giving them a chainaxe too - one or the other!
I would if you’re building a squad to fight, for sure. Even more strength for your extra attacks! If youre building an objective-sitter, and you probably need at least one of those, you could skip them.
I wouldn't. You should give them the chainsword upgrade and then since you are a WE you can upgrade those chainswords to chainaxes for free. Chainaxes will be the same as chainswords but the S is User +1 so all around better than bayonets and it's on fluff for WEs.
If you want to save 50 points you can make them Despoilers and they come with a bolt pistol and chainsword then you upgrade to chainaxe for free. The tradeoff for a 20 man squad is you lose the bolter for a bolt pistol, but save 50 points total.
You know what, I'm thinking of Fearless. A shame that is gone, but Hatred is great. It's good for WEs since they lost Hatred for the Berserker Assault Rite of War.
Thanks for the great video. New to HH. So this helped a lot. :)
