  • Some footage of test running after setting up the pedal and throttle linkages to give full carb opening, plus a slight fuelling adjustment. The different was immediate and considerable, much more power and speed are being generated, it now flies along on only partial throttle. Previously it was crawling along with the pedal to the metal! Enjoy the soundtrack. Give a like and please subscribe. Thank you :)

These Land Rover Series 2.6 engine units are great and super rare! In Southern Africa they were the specified light vehicle choice for defence and utility with some still in use today as game driving vehicles AFTER 50 YEARS' service.
These engines prefer staying cool, so fresh ice block juice, a generous 300ml dollop of LiquiMoly MoS2 Molybdenum Disulphide additive, a tin of Lucas Stop Leak dinosaur juice, fresh Castrol 5W/40, 125ml 2 stroke oil in the 99 octane tank with Halfords sourced Dipethane petrol treatment.
This protects exhaust valve seats and stem seals, piston compression rings, exhaust gasket seals and pipes well lubricated and protected = Higher compression & No Smoke. Exhaust valve clearance & seat cylinder head préserved. MoS2 touching metal parts crankcase and valvetrain preserved. Minimal NVH = quiet engine.
I treat the diffs, the transfer case, transmission, overdrive and steering box EP90 oil change with the same MoS2 and Lucas Stop-Leak additives. My gearboxes don't leak anymore, the overdrive is much quieter and the steering stays préserved and light.. I've inflated the front tyres a bit more and removed the steering dampener for "power steering" effect and entice the Mrs to drive the car!
Fresh coolant preserves sensitive brass and copper fixtures across heat exchange systems (radiator & cab heater).
With standard resin ignition coil, fresh wiring and plugs, (electronic ignition replaced points work well), correct valve gap rocker settings; timing set dependent on sea level elevation 1° < 6° btdc and a tuned carburettor, the results are wonderfully amazing!
If you want, a £20 Sea-Flo volumetric air blower fitted to the air induction system pushes a nice volume of air into the CD-175 Stromberg carburettor. The carb works harder to balance the mixture but it allows the engine to breathe better = more power but with a nice, economic, clean burn.
Enjoy your Land Rover Series 2.6

I clearly remember all of those sounds, the six pot burble, the tire howl and the squeaking of the steering column and the drum brakes.
    Many a great memories.

Love your collection of goodies, I can remember hand binding the wires on the insulators using a big ring spanner to bend the conductor

That is such an awesome Land Rover. Always wanted an old classic one like that!

    That's a formula 1 ton
You must of been doing 50!!!

    • @onetonlandrover
      @onetonlandrover  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah had it just over 50 at one point. Bearing in mind the factory top speed is 67! But I reckon that would take some doing!

@@onetonlandrover Replied on a previous video about a farmer friend who bought a new 1 Ton in 1973 and replaced the 2.6 for a 3 litre, wasn't a straight swap but can't remember a lot more, pale green like yours and after the engine change hit 60mph on the M1 towing a Massey Ferguson to a show, he wanted an overdrive fitted but the garage said it couldn't be done but my new 109" 2.6 had it!!!

@@clooperman3745 I did reply to your previous comments but TH-cam notifications are notoriously poor. An overdrive won't fit a 1 Ton gearbox which is what the garage were referring to.

@@onetonlandrover You did ask if l had any details about the 1 Ton but apart from the engine change, colour and overdrive issue the only thing l remember is it being quick with the new 3 litre Rover 6 especially when towing.

@@clooperman3745 I'm sure it would have gone well with that extra few horsepower, I think the 3 litre was around 130ish horsepower? Quite a jump from the 90ish of the standard 2.6. I'm not sure it would have been able to rev any higher though, so top speed probably still just shy of 70mph.

    0:10 Am I right in thinking that's an 11kV Land Rover ?

I don't understand the question?🤷‍♂️ Do you mean did it work on 11kV lines? If so, yes it would have.

So, what the difference between the '1 ton' and other LRs ?
