Wore one MIA bracelet and another soldier 's name bracelet when I was a teenager. Wore them until they fell apart....they were metal! Was able to go to the wall memorial about 25 yrs. later....and both names were on there. Traced their names on paper and cried that they had passed! Prayed for their families.. .and at age 62......I will never forget their names or their sacrifice!! God bless each and everyone who served!

Short story... I served in the Army from 1968-75. I spent 2 1/2 consecutive years in SVN in IIFFV Atry. Since I kept extending my tour, I had special leaves. From letters we got from guys who ets'd prior, I planned to travel to the Airports at night. It worked well.. I stayed in Oakland, got fitted up with dress greens for the flight from SF but I stayed for my Steak Dinner and left at dusk. By that time the protesters/Aholes had a full day of activity and media and were hunkered down buzzed on their couches or vans. I made several trips back and forth between Nam and home and had no problems. When I ETS'd in 1971 (first time) I had no desire for any recognition or parades. I was interested in getting back to work to take care of my family. I didn't need that "recognition" and when at events... I blend in. I will say I do spend time helping other Vets... be it info for places that offer the help they need and I sit on the Veterans Advisory of our Congressman, Local VA Hospital and even a seat with our VISN. I am a member of many Veteran Orgs and hold offices from Chapter, District, Dept., and National. When it comes to the celebrations... I always felt that a "pat on the back to be 2 feet above a kick in the ass". All I wanted to do is take care of my family and help other Vets..be it WWII to the Sandbox... doesn't matter. Over the years I had a chance to know John Devitt. He put together the ORIGINAL MOVING WALL. I had set it up and disassembled it many times... I have been to Washington more times than I can count to see the wall and touch base with a few friends who are on it as well as in Arlington. My homecoming was after my time in NAM and finally come home to my family.. nothing more needed.

I spent nine months in the central highlands in 1968 with the 4th infantry div. . Was wounded and came home a paraplegic. Married the nurse who took care of me and we have been together for 46 years and going strong. Our son is an ER doctor and our daughter a high school math teacher. I have three grandsons 12,10 and 5 and one grand daughter 2. I have done anything and everything I have ever wanted to do even being in a wheelchair for 52 years. I don't know of any other paraplegics that have been around for 52 years and neither does the VA hospital I use. I am 76 years old and have NO complaints and would live my life over without changing a thing. Maybe hard for someone to accept my feelings but after 52 years I wouldn't even know what it would be like to walk. I drive my own hand controlled car and transfer my wheelchair in and out of the car. I flew my own aircraft in the mid 70's to mid 80's but lost my FAA medical card due to high blood pressure. I flew with hand controls. I probably had some PTSD years ago but that monster hasn't been back ever since I was arrested for disorderly conduct when I got pissed at two kids that showed no respect what so ever for a WWII veteran who was old and trying to buy a meal in a restaurant. Long story not worth telling. Being arrested back then taught me to not get upset at others and if I feel it coming on I just leave. Served as post commander of our local American Legion and even five summers as a little league baseball coach. Type my full name plus LS 1 and you can see a corvette I was building at the time. After the video the car got a new Victory red paint job and new interior. Its setting in garage right now covered up but ready to go. I did all the work on the corvette myself . Life is good while we're here at least it is for me.

Here's a dose of reality. The US had NO legitimate right or reason to be in Vietnam. The US didn't have the guts or integrity to officially declare war against a country it beat the s*** out of for 10 years.
