      I would love to hear more about your story of how you transitioned to tech and built your knowledge and profile so quickly to get internships. Another video idea that I barely see, is people reviewing the resume that got them their VERY FIRST internship, as I feel that’s the hardest step. Thanks

    absolutely love your LinkedIn posts Mark. ive been applying to basically everything you posted about. Could you make a video for freshman/sophmores trying to get internships? seemingly every company only wants third years for their internships unless they are programs like explore or STEP. I was even talking to a few recruiters at a school career fair and they all said that priority is given to third and fourth years, then if they still have room, thats when they consider freshman/sohpmores.

    • @markbenliyan
      @markbenliyan  ปีที่แล้ว

    Great content, lot of potential for channel growth since there isn’t a lot of help for interns/new grads. Question though, do you have advice for resume writing/beating ATS systems? I feel like there has to be a way to get more responses from companies, because I get absolutely no responses from anyone even with previous internships and research experience

    • @markbenliyan
      @markbenliyan  ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm lucky enought to find you on LinkedIn and TH-cam, you'll definitely blow up soon with your content!
    As a current freshman, I'd really like it if you are able to either make a video about freshman oppurtunities or even an article on LinkedIn. Thanks!!
    Question: Google STEP has recently opened and I'm really interested in getting an internship summer 2024 (current freshman). I started coding about a month ago and so I don't have any major projects apart from a simple python game (starting to work on somthing more impressive hopefully). So should I apply to STEP immediately or wait a few weeks so my (hopefully) more impressive project is underway and I can add that to my resume? As currently I have a fair bit of work experience (coaching, landscaping, tutoring, etc) but I don't know if that's enough to get past the resume screen.
    Any insights will be much appreciated! Good luck on your channel!!

    • @markbenliyan
      @markbenliyan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the support! I can definitely make a video for freshman / sophomore opportunities (especially since most internships are for juniors). In terms of your question, applications this season have been moving really quickly but Google usually includes the application deadline for the roles they open up. They did this for their software engineering internship and the BOLD program, so I bet STEP will be the same. In that case, I'd encourage you to maximize your resume as much as possible before the deadline and then apply. For opportunities that don't share their deadlines though, you should just apply immediately. Things close really quickly and the chance at missing the application isn't worth it!
      PS: I don't think STEP has actually opened yet. Just double checked their site and I don't see it. Hopefully this is the case and you have even more time to prep!

    • @hishamkidwai4928
      @hishamkidwai4928 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really appreciate your detailed response! Thanks!
      Regarding STEP, the first link that pops up (at least for me, assuming it’s similar to others) isn’t updated but if you scroll down then you can find the links to apply.
      Yea I’ll probably work on my resume then apply as for STEP, the last day to apply is nov 3. They do recommend applying early but I don’t know if I’d get through the resume screening with my Snake project lol.

    Hello Mark, I have been following you on LinkedIn and wanted to thank you for your amazing job. I wanted also to ask you a question: As a French student in computer science (MEng) do you think it is useful to apply to American companies ? I have been thinking about finding an internship in the US but it seems a little bit difficult for European students

    • @markbenliyan
      @markbenliyan  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's certainly more difficult being outside the U.S. but I think you should still try! Some of the big American companies provide work sponsorship for people all across the world. If one of those companies is your goal, it certainly can't hurt to shoot your shot. The next video I'm making is about the best way to apply to jobs, so stay tuned!

    One of the most annoying aspects of applying to jobs, is the fact that workday isn't a single website that websites can host their application on and you have to create a new one for each role. We are in 2023, what are we doing?

    Hi Mark, just discovered your channel, thank you for the amazing info!
    A question: I am applying to post-bacc programs as a career changer, with the aim to start in spring 2024. How should I approach applying for internships? I was planning on applying for jobs as I proceed through a program (I already have a portfolio as a hobbyist), but will there be internship opportunities during that time frame? Or would I need to wait until fall next year to pursue them? Not quite sure how it works with regard to timing. Thanks again!

    • @markbenliyan
      @markbenliyan  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The following fall will definitely have the biggest amount of internship opportunities but that's usually most important for university students. Most of the big tech companies haven't yet expanded their internships, unfortunately. I think you should still keep an eye out for any internships after you graduate from the program, then continue applying for both junior roles as well as any internships that don't have a strict university requirement. It never hurts to apply as you go!

    • @markbenliyan
      @markbenliyan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’d encourage you to still apply for entry level & even new grad roles! I know some companies this year are actually accepting new grad applications from students who graduated the previous year as well. Don’t let the grad date requirement stop you from applying! In the meantime, try to continuously improve your resume
