I get frustrated hitting perfect strikes but going left of target . At least 3 times a round I’ll say “why have I hit it there!” Look forward to giving these tips a go thanks
Brilliant as usual Chris. I’ve never heard such a clear explanation of viewing your shot from the perspective of rotating your head. Makes perfect sense. You have already helped my game immensely, I only wish I had instruction as good as yours years ago.
Thanks Chris, direct, simple and to the point as always. I find focussing on one or 2 of your tips each week has really helped my game. Much appreciated!
Bang on Chris... Strangely, I had a slowish back round today , but instead of moaning about the 4 ball in front of me, I took the opportunity to give extra attention to aim, alignment and swing, because of this I pared all the par 3's and absolutely nailed some tee shots that in the past have been tricky to get right, consequently I shot under my handicap and scored a tidy 38 Stapleford points, so it proves your point in this video!! Keep up the great content. 👌🏼
I've been doing this on the tee for the last couple of games and now feel so much more comfortable off the tee with driver or any club and hitting more fairways. It has also shown when I have put a bad swing on the tee. I will have to try the head tilt next time I'm out, always look at the target but never tried it the way you explained.
Works for putting, too. Visualize your line from behind the ball, pick a piece of grass, divot, whatever. One glance at the flag, not for the line (trust your setup), but to get a feel for the distance, and nail it.
Great content Chris. When I watched your video it reminded me of the PGA Tour Playoff here at East Lake in Atlanta, GA. I often capture video's of the different players, Pre Shot Routines, and how they align themselves before each shot!! Keep it up!!
Cheers for the video content! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (do a search on google)? It is a good one off product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy finally got astronomical results with it.
Great Video clip! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (do a search on google)? It is a good exclusive guide for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the hard work. Great video Chris. Well presented, nice and clear, good use of graphics and how to look at the shot by head rotation is a cracking tip. You look good on camera too. 😊 I'll be subscribing.
Nice video, but I have a question. Towards the end, as you are pivoting your head and checking your aim towards the flag, what are trying to align to? I mean, you're no longer standing behind the ball, so I'm not sure what that final step is....are you looking to see if your feet are aligned to the left of the flag or are you doing your best to see how the club is aimed or what? I've really always been lost at that step. Thanks
Good tips Chris. This might be a dumb question but would you be allowed to place a club along the line of your feet to check your target line in a competition.
Chris super video....so best to pick a divot or mark or clump of grass about half a metre down your ball line and then set up parallel to that spot.......ok i will give it a bash...thanks chris....is this the same when putting??
@@ChrisRyanGolf your videos are so helpful for us high handicappers chris....all we want is little tips and advice to help us improve and enjoy our game more and you provide this in your work...thanks chris keep them coming 🏌️♂️⛳👍👍
Put an alignment stick between your intermediate Target and your ultimate target (in this case the flag) about 15 yds in front of you. Stick it in the ground so it is straight up and down. This will also train u to develop more consistent sightlines
Great vid Chris problem I have with set up is are my shoulders closed or open to the target -this creates all sorts of un-confidence on my shot - could you give a tip on how I could make sure my alignment of that is ok 👍
dean cook you need to work hard on this on the range. Place an alignment stick down at your feet that’s parallel to your target. Set up to the ball, try and match your shoulders to your feet and the alignment stick, then pull the club away and put it across your shoulders and have a look and where they are aiming. This will clearly show you if you are aiming to the right or left. Adjust as your need then hit the ball. Do this every time you go to the range until you know the feeling of how your shoulders look “square” to the target. If you need to incorporate a little shoulder adjustment as part of your pre shot routine then do this. I’ve been doing this for years and has helped a lot. Hope this helps. Mick.
Good video. This has been an ongoing problem (one of many :/) for years. I put it down to my eyes being too close together. I try to line up but still get it wrong. I will try the head rotation. Thank you.
well, many top players just simply raise their position and press the left side of their head to the left to look down the line, at address. but, most alignment problems are caused by the way a player steps up to the ball. some players hold the club with their left hand, some with their right, as they step up. the players who hold the club with their left hand tend to step up to the ball on a straighter line. and, when you walk round to the ball it serves no purpose. if you have got your alignment when you stand behind the ball, you will then lose it when you walk round to the left in the step up. and, this can actually cause a player to aim to the right when they move into the address position.
Well done, but it seem with my 20 ✋ and my over the top or over or draw shots. i cant seem to find my intermittent target line, becomes crossover with a fade/draw and of course im way off the pin area, causing me to make a bad chip or tough pitch shot, into a three putt. I dont need glasses or your input a hole (veiwers) piss off, I need Chris advice.
When I line up to my intermediate targets, the FEEL that I have is that I am aiming well left. It could be because my toe line is open due to my left leg being a little flared or more so my hips seem lined up left of the target line. How can I line up my hips to the target line please? This left-lined hip messes up the axis of my rotation which then is shifted from being side on to something slightly towards the target. Hope this makes sense.
Have no problem getting feet, hips, chest and shoulders square but during a demo day at my club the Ping fitter noticed that my club face would be fractionally open at address - always . Any advice on how to stop that happening. Chris ?
Do you really have a Mapei logo on you're shirt? Like from the tile industry? I'm gonna have to call my rep!! Lol. That's pretty cool though, I'm in the tile trade as a installer
One of my problems with aiming is when hitting a ball off the ground and say it launches directly at the target ok. Next hit the same exact shot with the ball on a tee and it's pulled left. What's causing that. I see quite a few golfers with this same result.
You are aiming to the left significantly.. Including your shoulders, if you review the line of your shoulders just before you hit you can see you are lined up significantly left. The camera angle is a factor but that shoulder alignment cant be explained away by that.
I get so confused some times on the fairway. If I need to aim right or left I rotate then swing with ball either to far in front or behind depending if I'm aiming left or right..
Hey Kevin, I know exactly what You mean, if you shift your alignment the ball position changes relative to your stance. Best bet is to set up, if you feel your are poorly aimed, step off and go again. I know pace of play can be an issue but will help in the long run
Not an uncommon thing, perception can be off/different for everyone, your probably at the stage where your routine is good you just need to re train your eyes to see what you know is correct
ChrisRyanGolf think of any other sport you play, baseball, tennis, ping pong, soccer, football. Basketball. None of these sports require you to perfectly align yourself to where and how you want to send the ball. You naturally just think about what you want to do with it and your body automatically performs the task. That also works for golf unless you get sucked into the way PGA professionals want you to learn. That’s why no one ever gets better at golf. The system has you work on mechanics instead of intent and results. Never ever ever ever focus a task on inner body movements. You don’t do that when you eat with utensils, drive a car, walk, run, or throw a ball. Focus only on the intent and target and results will follow.
So if we look at aim, we will can perfect alignment at your target O degrees, the complete opposite direction 180 degrees, do we see anyone aiming 90degrees away from target? 180degrees away from target? 60degrees away from target? And getting good results?
ChrisRyanGolf I think you’re missing the point. Focus on the target and ball flight and your mind will automatically aim and move your body correctly. It will not work if you focus on body mechanics.
Ok Steve we may to agree to disagree, I’ve coaches over 10,000 golfers, and trust me their ‘instinctive aim’ is on the whole, poor. Poor aim leads to poor mechanics which result in the ball heading somewhere near target but with little consistency. Watch good players and tell me there is a ‘trend’ towards a common aim. But great that we can have different views and still enjoy the game. Appreciate the comments and interaction 👍
I have been plagued in my brain with alignment for many years when i look at your parallel set up---to me your parralel body line looks much more to left of green all pros look like this in setup
Hey Larry, I’d certainly agree that TV and camera angles can make things look a little different to the reality, it’s just a case of finding a system and routine that helps you align yourself correctly, certainly not easy though
your videos with the verbal instruction are some of the best please look at ur down the line view of your addess video does the parallel line across your body look more left than the line shows
I don't mean to be difficult, but the two parallels lines you showed are not realistic. They lack depth. If you think of a train track with two parallel lines, at a distance, the two rails converge. Yours did not.

Haha, thanks and one will be just fine 👍
Jack Nicklaus taught this method ... and it absolutely works.
I’m certainly agreeing with anything that Jack says 👍
I try to do this when I’m hitting range balls too. At least at a minimum every 5th iron shot. Almost every driver too. Practice the Pre-shot routine.
well, many top players just simply raise their position and press the left side of their head to the left to look down the line, at address. but, most alignment problems are caused by the way a player steps up to the ball. some players hold the club with their left hand, some with their right, as they step up. the players who hold the club with their left hand tend to step up to the ball on a straighter line. and, when you walk round to the ball it serves no purpose. if you have got your alignment when you stand behind the ball, you will then lose it when you walk round to the left in the step up. and, this can actually cause a player to aim to the right when they move into the address position.
Awesome, great advice thank you!!👍🏼👍🏼
would it be better to aim with your feet more to the right or the left?
Great question, really depends on the golfer club path, if you swing out to in or in to out this would influence that
top shelf again chris!
Thanks Roger appreciate it

Im autistic, i find aiming very hard! Im an ok plater but aiming is really holding me back.
the rotating head is the mistake I think most players make. I always see my playing partners stand up and look square on to check their line
One of my problems with aiming is when hitting a ball off the ground and say it launches directly at the target ok. Next hit the same exact shot with the ball on a tee and it's pulled left. What's causing that. I see quite a few golfers with this same result.
If its JUST off the tee look at club path. Maybe you're trying to hit it a bit harder and coming over the top a bit.
Aiming isn’t hard for me but what about if I don’t top my ball, but I still get no air/distance
Are you hitting behind the ball? I had that problem for quite a while. Then I would over correct on the next and top the ball
thanks 감사합니다^^
I might as well play blindfolded my aim is a guessing game lol, it might go left or right but never where I think I'm aiming

Alignment doesn’t matter. You should be able to set up anywhere and anyway you want and hit the ball towards the target you put in your mind.
