I think after watching the notice of your Steve's wife passing, a whole lot of us who thought we were long-time fans got the sudden realization we never watched "where it all began". What seemed like just a footnote on the end was very special to see.

Now great art can sometimes be very artificial, but sometimes it can be very real at other times. And this is a prime example of art being very real and down to earth but still having this ascending quality to it. In german we have a word for what you are Steve, and it's called Lebenskünstler, a life artist.
I've been watching all your vids lately and they are just so comfortable to me. You really are a person that is, in one way incredibly talented, but then again so chill as fuck, that we don't know how to react to you. You basically are a modern day Diogenes ('Get out of my sun Alexander') through and through. Your practical philosophy and authenticity are something to be cheriched. What I LOVE about Steve's old videos is seeing how much he has matured and mellowed. In the old vids, he strikes me as an angry young rebel, (not in a bad way, just in the usual way that we transition from "young & rebellious", to "settled & focused") I had even forgotten that he smoked back then! 😂
Steve is such a humble Dude,... salt of the earth. He was back then, and he most definitely still is today!
Here we are in 2021, Steve has close to a half million subscribers, a beautiful wife, awesome home & land, and of course a "Crazy Neighbor". 🤠
He's loved by millions of people around the world! Had someone told him what was in store for him in the future, I doubt he would have believed it.
I'm so proud of the man he has become and grateful that he hasn't lost his love of nature. For me, "Camping with Steve" was the only bright spot in the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020. God bless ya Steve! May you enjoy many, many more years of exciting adventures! 👍👍(love to Jess as well) ❣❣

For you Steve, in the loving memory of your beautiful wife. Life is a journey and there are good times and bad times, but it's all worth it from the people you meet and the people you love, and those great memories will never be forgotten, you will always have your wife in your heart and soul where ever you go, and one day you will see her again. Your wife has passed from this life to the next. Her soul lives on, she is with the Lord Jesus Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Steve, let the Lord comfort your soul while you grieve, cry and let it out.

Been a long time fan and just watched this for the first time. I've already been on this path for a minute but I'm finally boondocking. sitting in my trailer right now just south of the Canadian border on lake Osoyoos. It was really scary at first and I felt anxious, but I found out that was because I always had to be somewhere, all my trips were one or two nights then back to work. Now that I have no where to be, nobody waiting on me, I make new friends everyday, see beautiful sights I would have never seen. Nothing like that feeling of sitting somewhere and laughing to yourself about "how the hell did I get here?". Thank you so much for the inspiration Steve.
Hope you find healing in the knowledge that you have helped people so many people overcome their fears and anxieties. I'm sure I'm not the only person you have helped, thank you.

I saved up money for three years to boondock out of my 4Runner. It’s going great but I have no idea what I’m going to do after. It scares me to think about and honestly it’s pretty depressing. I’m in no way lazy, I’ve worked very hard jobs in my life with long hours and making decent money but I was so unhappy it nearly killed me. Being on the road has made me happier than I’ve been in a long time but I still feel so lost. I’m sure I’m not the only one but it sure feels like it sometimes. Watching this and then seeing your more current videos definitely gives me some hope. Not much though. • @glenmchargue5461
      @glenmchargue5461 3 ปีที่แล้ว +37

This is just my, maybe dumb rambling, thoughts that might not even address your real concerns but I read your comment and have often been in the same spot. So disregard if this seems senseless or preachy and pretend I didn't write.
If you can learn to enjoy the time in the present- you're golden. I spend so much time worrying about the future and wish I didn't. Meanwhile the present has just flown by and I still have hardly figured out any future plans.
I try to focus on something daily that has really brought me joy. For a start you have a fucking 4runner. Kick ass, I love those trucks. Also, you seem to have freedom. That's truly the best. Every time in my life I have had ultimate freedom I've taken it for granted. But I imagine you worry about the next step. I spent a ton of time worrying, and worrying enough that it has impacted my health. I always worry about the next step.
      STEP TWO
If you can get any type of work in a place you like or a place near friends go for it. Having people around is so important. Good friends are hard as hell to make but there is nothing more valuable.
As for the job, go for whatever, don't worry about status or the future, just get something mellow where you can collect your thoughts, then you can figure out your next step while at that job, just don't become complacent. But the important thing is that you are enjoying your life through all of this. Everything doesn't have to get figured out immediately. That's not important. But as long as you are trying and then also enjoying your day, you're kicking ass. Once you have any sort of job, you can live much in the same way that Steve is here. Quit the job if you need to hit the road again, no biggie. Then repeat.
You'll keep talking to people and eventually, maybe in a week, or maybe a year, something will come up. It's daunting but things have a way of shaking out OK. If you are kind to people, mind any addictions and keep them in check (or consciously address them), keep actively looking for whatever you want next (job, travel, friends, partner etc), things will happen. But the challenge is to stay happy and healthy in the process.
I really think you'll get it though. Cause you already had the guts to take off in a 4Runner and that is pretty bad ass. Later in life you are gonna look back and miss these days. It may sound crazy but you probably will.

I just found this channel tonight and started binge watching his newer videos(fall 2019). Then I landed on this... wow what an adventure, what a change he has made in his life. I found myself a little sad at the end of this and I'm not sure why - perhaps it was the end of an era and the beginning of another, or perhaps it was just the hauntingly reflective music at the end. I loved the music throughout. Steve seems like a really great guy and just wants to live free while having pure respect for everyone and everything around him - sadly that seems rare in our me first society.

This is heartbreakingly beautiful. You have come so far Steve, but you are still you. Not enough words to describe what this film means to me at the movement and the challenges I’m going through myself. You have given me another little reality check and I’m thankful for it. Peace and love to you mate.

Best wishes from the UK Steve, we are all rooting for you.

Steve, I was going to say you have no idea how this hit home, but you indeed do. Being without a home was and still is the most free I've ever felt. This film and Joe's music is soul searching stuff. Amazing piece, really touched my heart. Thanks ...my son actually turned me onto your work, wow!
PS. We're watching together to find the inception of Step 2.
He really related to you, the message here is priceless.

Steve Wallis Awesome, can see the joy in your eyes these days. Speaking of joy, thanks for the inspiration and calm - I watched loads of your videos during lockdown and found them very soothing, but you’ve heard this stuff before. My Nephew pointed me in your direction, there’s a bunch of us here in the UK who love your videos !
I like your simple approach, reminds me of some aspects of Buddhist philosophy, maybe that’s why your way of camping strikes a chord with people.
Boondocking movie reminded me also of George Orwell’s ‘Down and out in Paris and London’ in some ways, Orwell was a writer who decided to adopt a hobo lifestyle and became immersed in it and had great empathy for the people around him going through the same struggles - he then went back to his life as a writer after a few months. Obviously, Boondocking was your actual life, rather than a stance that you adopted as an experiment, but the general arc of developments reminded me of that book (one of my favourites !).
Anyhow, best wishes from the UK and thanks again, Alex 👍🇨🇦🇬🇧

It's fun to be an angry young man. You may not want to be that again, but that doesn't mean they weren't good days.

It's so weird seeing how much of a different person youve become. But theres still those glimpses of the person youve always been as well. My 4 year old son and I are very slowly making our way into the camping life and a lot of it is just because of your videos ive been randomly watching over the course of this year.
This was a great documentary and Id love to see you make another one!

I came here to listen once again how it all began. The story of Steve's Beautiful Wife.
Steve, Jess and you did spend good times together. She made camping with Steve happen and thus bringing inspiration for millions of people to enjoy outdoors. Her spirit lives on in the flames of campfires lit by those you inspired.
Step 2 will be in memory of Jess from now on. She will not be forgotten.

So glad this video popped up. The last 4 minutes 30 seconds brought tears to my eyes. A lot of thoughts and feelings ran through my mind, so sorry for your terrible loss. It also gives me hope for myself that maybe there is still someone out there for myself and to hang in there. Steve you hang in there too, take your time to grieve your own way in your own time, Jess will always be with you.
Hope to meet you someday and share a step 2.
