I am 80 years old and have driven the Alaska Highway enough times to want to do it more, but at my age, I’m not able to do it anymore, so I especially appreciate being able to follow along as you go on this adventure. I’ve driven the highway in every season, and even almost ran out of gas on January 1 in the early 90’s.
It’s such a wonderful adventure, especially if you’re going it alone! I have some great memories!

Ryan, I live here in Chugiak, Alaska. I just wanted to thank you for having taken the time to document your journey through our beautiful state. I also want to commend you for the way in which you you've described your experience along the way. I can honestly say that you, as a visitor, have set an example for the way in which, we, wish that all tourists would behave and conduct themselves. (We, meaning .... Us, residents of, Alaska) Thank you for having expressed the utmost respect for the environment, the wildlife and all my wonderful Neighbors. It seems as though you had a great experience on your adventure traveling the "Haul Road"... a.k.a. The Dalton Highway! You are lucky for having survived that highway without having had any major problems along the way. Our first experience with the Dalton Highway.... we drove all the way up to the city of Wisemen, having started our trip in Anchorage (roughly 700 miles). On our return home, the brakes on our Toyota failed. And as you are fully aware, the only place to get car parts that far north is in Fairbanks. I had to drive the "Hell Highway" from Wisemen to Fairbanks with absolutely NO brakes on our Tundra while pulling a trailer....hundreds of miles of dirt and pure stress. Anyway, thanks for the video... it allowed me to see all the scenery that I had missed on our return drive home!

I've NEVER sat through 2 hrs and 32 minutes of anything on you tube or any other electronic social forum since their inception 😱 . Besides the views , the sites , the cooking and the van , what showcased it was your voice. There's no screaming, babbling or just carrying on irrelevantly. It was concise , smooth and informational. It was like I was sitting on the passenger seat with you. Thanks for taking the time and going through all it takes to record, edit and post your experiences and sharing them here. And yes, by all means, keep em coming. You have a new subscriber 😉👍💪

I took this very same trip that you're taking but I started in texas. Drove from Texas to mi 0 of the Alaska highway then I took that all the way through Canada to Anchorage AK and out of Anchorage where I stayed for a while. Then I took the Eagle River Highway up to Wasilla where i connected with the Parks Highway that took me to Fairbanks. Got on the Dalton Highway and drove all the way to Purdue Bay. I went up there on vacation, loved the beauty of its nature, the different ways of the people, and the peace and quiet that I so needed at the time, and ended up living in Alaska for 14 years. That was before social media so I used a book called The Milepost and a map. So when you see the beautiful things along the highway, and I am watching, I'm seeing them again and it is wonderful. I left my front license plate in Watson Lake. 😊 Safe travels!

I used to drive the Dalton for work for many years and knew every corner. I’ve driven every month of the year during the day and night. I wasn’t a trucker but drove a few hundred thousand miles on it. I also have driven many miles on the pipeline right of way. I’ve driven from Prudhoe to Fairbanks in under 9 hours. I also flew around the pipeline and to mountain tops in helicopters. I did this for 15 years. It’s cool to see it again. It’s been 10 years since I worked there.

Oh my! I can’t believe I actually watched the entire 2:31:30 of your journey! New to exploring van life for me as a solo female. Those mosquitoes had me relive recent bee swarm attack, rushed to ED. Buggers even went inside my pants, blouse, facial bites everywhere. Doc’s removed several stingers back of my thighs! Gosh never saw the swarm! However, survived, yet, I’m a little leery re being bitten by flying insects!
After viewing this episode, there’s much to prepare to explore U.S.A. Will have to take shorter trips for sure. I know my spine would not have allowed me to reach the point you did. Thanks again for the experience! You accomplished your goal in style. Great job!

I’m in the same camp as many other commenters in that I have never! ever! ever! watched any youtube over 10 min. I like short and to the point. But for some reason I clicked on your video thinking I’d check out 4-5 minutes, get bored and move on. But that wasn’t the case. I got hooked. The scenery, the cooking, your odd but interesting town stops and your voice….yes your voice is smooth & calming. And also love your curly hair. Adventure On, Be Safe! Thanks for sharing.

I really enjoy watching you. I am a heavy traveler myself. I’ve been every state in the US and all over Europe central and South America and beyond so I love to watch the adventures. However, I thought it was cute when you said you were back in the United States, since Alaska has been, part of the US since 1937
Keep up the adventures these days traveling is the real way to enjoy life for many of us!
One of these days unless you already have and I missed it you need to travel the Hawaiian islands. I would love to see a video of you taking you a ride up highway to Hannah, it’s a thrill and quite memorable.

Hello Ryan. I'm from Southeast Tennessee born and raised. My first time seeing your channel. What a trip you had. I loved it. I lived in Key Largo 13 years and my sister lived in Islamorada 30 years. I'm back home in Tennessee. I think this was the most fun ever watching you. You're a good cook too. I love your van. Even though I'm older now, I think I could do many road trips like you. Ha., especially since im used to these mountainous country roads. I just need a perfect van like yours. Great job on building it. I can't wait to see more of your adventures. God bless. Happy trails.

I was born and grew up in British Columbia, Canada and I have never heard of the 'Sign Post' forest. It looks so beautiful. It is my wish that I will get to drive up the Alaskan Hwy someday.
FYI: it's a small world as I eventually met & married an American and relocated to Maryland which is where he was from. I stayed over there for less than 2 years because after one very hot and extremely humid summer we moved back to the West Coast..

Buckle up Buttercup. I have absolutely enjoyed your journey. I have laughed and I have cried. As a child my family drove from Jacksonville,FL to Alaska. 7 of us in a camper-5 children. In the 60’s none of the hwy was paved and all the windows had to be covered with cardboard. I was one of those children. Oh, did I mention that our families had just met. This was our bonding trip-again in the 60’s. No cell phones, tvs or Xbox. I just need to point out that you need to slow way down. There are so many great hikes, swimming holes, fascinating historical sites. We met Klondike Mike and panned for gold with him. We spent a lot of time with locals. Caught our own salmon and crabs. There were two 9 year old girls that wondered off in Dawson Creek and got lost. I was one of them and my brand new sister was the other. We put a fire together and waited for help to arrive. My 13 yr old brother hiked Mt Seward alone. The other 9 yr old and I went back for our 60th, and will make at least one more trip.

Ryan, I appreciate your coverage of your drive of the Alaska, Dalton and Prudue Bay Highways. Back when the Alaska Highway was being built, both my parents sides of the family moved from Saskatchewan to work on various new business developments such as Saw mill, potato and new oil fields. One side of the Anderson's developed the Pink Mountain lodge at mile 147 and flew Bush Piolet services to the remote native villages. I remember, I used to like listening to my Grandpa talk about his experiences of being part of the construction, and in his mind he was part of the greatest thing that ever happened to Canada's north country. Grandpa Anderson, also liked the unique aspects of the terrain along the way and used to talk about his experiences back when the road was being built. He also respected the American Army and what they did for the development of the BC, Yukon and Alaskan wilderness. I drove the Alaska Highway in 2021 to the little town of Haines Junction, where one of my Brother's lives and works, and still astounded by the untouched mountains and wilderness.

This is just awesome, Ryan. Thanks for sharing it. I have become a subscriber and have really enjoyed your gentle spirit and kindness (even to a mouse!), and therefore am now not just a subscriber, but also a fan! This will be a trip that my wife and I will have to make, albeit starting from the much-closer Portland, Oregon. She has told me rather decisively that she has no interest in nor any intention of swimming in the Arctic Ocean, but she was, 50+ years ago, a champion high-school swimmer, and I think the challenge just may be too great for her to pass on once we are there and she lays eyes on it.
Hardly anything brings us closer to people we love than traveling alone without them to some faraway place, and I sense your girlfriend was the audience you were making this video for. Happy travels, my friend. I look forward to watching much more from you.
    All my best, Archie

I just did the Alaska Hwy this past summer in my van and seeing the same stops both you and I made brought tears to my eyes. I decided on doing the Dempster Hwy to the Arctic Ocean rather than the Dalton and oh my was I nervous but it turned out to be the adventure of a lifetime. It’s an absolute shame they close off Prudhoe Bay exclusively to tours. Regardless, watching this made me want to hop back in my car and make that trip again despite how exhausting it was. Thank you for sharing your adventure! ❤️

Thanks for doing van life so we can sit at home. Appreciate it. Van life is hard and uncomfortable. Can be good for some, or for some time. I think after 2 years it gets hard. Many people end up going back to regular life. Definitely makes for a good adventure, broadens horizons and gives you perspective. Driving from Florida to Alaska is wild.

Dope trip! Also, I want to say thank you for helping 6.2k viewers to our Alaska video.
This is the range I wanted to see, but we had to head back to the lower 48. 😫
Your Van looks dope, too. We hope to cross paths with you one day. We've been on the road for 4 years and can't wait to get back to it.
Hahaha, yeah, Canadian tire is one of the pride and joys for Canadians.
I'm wondering if you come across Paco our dog on the pump at the gas station on the Dalton highway 😂😂😂
That Artic circle camp ground is beautiful. ❤❤
Great video and congrats on making to the Artic Ocean and actually swimming in it. 🎉

Ryan, amazing video and fantastic trip! Appreciate your vlog style and the balance between interactions, scenery, narrative; fabulous. So now, let's talk about Dungeness Crab. Unless you're at the dock or somewhere there is a salt water hold tank, it's already cooked (pink/orange shell). And as a 6th gen California girl, SF, where the Dungeness also roam (they're Alaska to about Santa Barbara habitat for the best eats), it's my honor to provide 'instruction' on the finer points. Toss the sauce, don't reheat, quadruple the butter. And we don't do 'old bay' no matter how much we love it (that's blue crab stuff!). Grab a bottle of chilled white (Sauvignon Blanc; Pinot Gris; Chardonnay; Riesling for something a little sweeter). A couple of sourdough baguettes. Melt about a pound of butter, toss in some sauteed minced garlic. While you're picking the crab, have some bread dipped in garlic butter and keep the wine flowing. When you have your pile, indulge. Dungeness is a 'sweet' meat; tender, the best. Had the opportunity to produce the 'Crab Cooking Olympics' in SF and Baltimore (Dungeness vs Blue Crab), with chefs from around the world and judges including James Beard. It was a blast! And in spite of all the amazing creations done with both, simplest always comes out on top! Buttery fingers, buttery chins, a big ol' mess of shells.
New subscriber! Thank you for the journey and for being a good 'guest' in Alaska.
