    Compared to some other cities in Rajasthan, India the main attractions in Jaipur 'The Pink City' are relatively spread out (especially the forts) meaning hiring an autorickshaw for the day or taking a tour is your best bet to cover them in a short period of time since walking is out of the question.
    However, we made the mistake of joining a tour with the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) and quite frankly it was awful. Our guide was disinterested and lacked any passion for the places he was showcasing. Moreover, he didn't care about the whereabouts of the tour group as he often vanished. The only concern he had was making sure we made plenty of unscheduled 'commissioned' shopping stops along the way while rushing us through the main attractions that people actually joined the tour to visit.
    It was honestly one of the worst experiences we've had on a tour since we've been traveling together. I'm sure it seemed we complained a lot in this video (and we did) but it is just an honest 'in the moment' reaction to how frustrated we felt on this tour. Do visit Jaipur and do check out all of these attractions but don't take the same tour we did. It sucked!

    I felt bad for your rush tour. It seems like its so nice if you had more time to appreciate the beauty of the place. Will definitely do an independent tour in Jaipur in our future visit. I am enjoying your India series. Always take care. Regards to your parents!!!😁

      Thank you very much! If you have two whole days in Jaipur I'd recommend a day in the city doing stuff and then another day just focussed on the forts. You can hire a rickshaw for A to B journeys or negotiate a reasonable price for the day where they wait for you.

      Totally agree with you. If we could do it over again we'd pick a day to cover the attractions in the city and another day to just visit the forts. This tour was really bad so we're warning other people not to take it.

    Hey Guys - I'm visiting Jaipur in January. Just wondering if the roads up to Jaigarh Fort and Nahargarh Fort are really steep and high? Someone I'm travelling is scared of heights, and they both look pretty high up

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is exciting to hear! They are high up but honestly I think they're okay enough even for someone with a fear of heights. Audrey and I are both afraid and my Mom even moreso and we managed okay.

    done by the scamming tour guides ... traveler' lots. I try to avoid them anywhere we go. Best to make your own path. China was the only place I figured we didn't have much of a choice, especially back in '99, it wasn't that organized for tourism and the language barrier was a huge obstacle. Try reading Chinese street signs ... love you vlog .. an excellent part of my day. Thank you

    heyy!! shopping from the forts and palaces and the tourism departments as they can be lot times expensive than what you get in the local markets! as the hotel, locals about local markets where you can spend time buying stuff at cheap prices. But be careful from their price hikes for foreigners. And yeah autos are often not cheap in tourist places especially for foreigners, though u can get some people who are honest, cab services such as UBER, OLA are cheap and suit your comforts.

    Main purpose of tourist guides should be showing us attractions in the city, but in India you should never book tourist guide... his mind would be more on commission and he won't let us do our own shopping exploring complete forts etc.. better don't take tourist guide the next time you visit india and by the way this my 14th video of yours :) Cheers!!!!

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Very good advice. Actually this was the only place we did that and because the attractions were so spread out we thought it would be a good idea but in hindsight we should have hired an autorickshaw driver for the day.

  • @thelousyllama
    @thelousyllama 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Thats what happens when you go with tourist bus guides, i hate it.. They rush through the sites and spend alot of time in tourist ripoff shops... I had a bad experience in beijing when the guide refused to leave a jade shop because no one bought anything... Then few of us were forced to buy cheap jade.. Sucks... I prefer to just plan and travel myself...

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry to hear about your experience in Beijing. That is so true. I think the only tours worth taking are ones that have great reviews and we were stupid not to check about this one beforehand. We honestly prefer to do things on our own but sometimes a tour is a good option if attractions are really spread apart and you're short on time.

Plus what I dont like about some of the tourist places in India and the world is how unrealistic commercialization has ruined the experience and the ancient feel that these monuments used to offer a decade back..
