I went in 2011 for the world cup. I only saw a few games and spent the rest going all over the country east, west, north and south. As my first trip overseas I remember the first day thinking how am I going to handle this. However by the 2nd day and allowing myself to live the culture by the end of the trip I was sad to leave. Truly a life changing experience and one I wouldn't change at all. Beautiful country and people. Thanks India

I live in south India, precisely in Bangalore. I recommend visiting Hampi, Belur, Halebidu, Chikabangaluru (all are in the state of Karnataka), Mahabalipuram, Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari (the Pacific Ocean meets India ocean here), Puduchheri (all in the state of Tamil Nadu), Munnar, Kochi, Alappuzha (all are in the state of Kerala) and Goa. Andaman and Nicobar are the best places in India if you guys like beaches, it's about 1250 KM southeast from Kolkata. could be the super cheap destination if you compare the price with any island in Pacific ocean.

India can be divided into 3 regions -> North, South and Northeast. These 3 regions are very diverse and vary from each other. In this trip you guys did some of the north region.
North - I felt you missed hill stations like Shimla, manali and Nainital from the states of Himachal and Uttarakhand. Punjab state in the north itself has a different food and culture altogether. So next time if you plan to visit north again, you can cover up these areas.
South - There are 6 states in south india with each having their own language and culture. You should enjoy the backwaters, house boat etc. in Kerala and then visit the temples in Tamil Nadu. Hyderabad is a great place to try the biryani and experience the islamic monuments. You can go to Goa for all the fun, parties, booze and beaches.
Northeast - There are 8 states in north india where around 200 languages are being spoken, which means the most diverse region in India. You can google and research which places you can visit here.
So in the end you can't have all of India in your 1 trip. Here each state is like a different country with its own language, clothing, food, festivals and culture. So before planning your next trip, research thoroughly and plan wisely ;)

Thats right India will never rule the world, because we don't want to. we aren't megalomaniac like the Chinese govt. most people every where are cool. your aim is to rule and that makes you more enemies. most people love India, while most people are scared of china. you might like that, but its must be very lonely. So nah... we don't want to rule the world, we wanna be happy and have freedom. freedom must be an alien concept for you i presume.

Sam and Audrey, I thoroughly enjoyed your India vlogs and appreciate and second your fantastic advice for India travel. I am a fellow Canadian and backpacked in 2007 for 5 weeks to many of the same locations you visited; Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi, Jaisalmer, Johdpur, Udaipur, and Mumbai. Absolutely loved North India. I'm a bit older now and have kids and after watching your vlogs with them they are very keen to see India as well. I cannot wait to share the experience that India is with them. I have always said that you cannot recommend India to anyone that is not excited at the idea of visiting India, but if they are eager to go, I cannot say enough of how great an experience it can be. Loud, cheap, chaotic, beautiful, welcoming, fast, slow, frustrating, exciting, maddening and charming...each and every day.

Next time when you go to India, I'd suggest you to visit smaller places, and definitely don't miss these
    1) Kashmir
    2) Darjeeling (take the mountain train)
    3) Shimla (take the mountain train)
    4) Manali
    5) Somnath (Gujarat)
    6) Dwarka (Gujarat)
    7) Ellora Caves (Aurangabad, Maharashtra)
    8) Ooty (take the mountain train)
    9) Omkareshwar (Madhya Pradesh)
    10) Great Rann of Kutch (Gujarat. If possible go here during the Rann Utsav festival and you can stay in the desert in tents. It's amazing!)

Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos I just found out your channel and its amazing. In this video what you have said is basically centered in the North. you have visited Delhi which is a very crowded city to be honest but a great place for experience. In the north there are places like Himachal pradesh and uttarakhand which are really beautiful mountain states. If you come to the south like Tamil nadu or in kerela you wil have a whole new experience. Its rather less crowded and sea based places.
Now the next time you visit India don't forget to visit the Northeast India. Its the most underrated destination of India with untouched hills, mountains, waterfalls and valleys. You will feel kind of in South east Asia when you are here. I bet you won't regret coming to the Northeast which is very less crowded till now but soon will be because of its gaining popularity.
there are places like the Wettest/Rainiest place in the world.
The biggest river island of the world is here.
you can find one horned rhinocerous here which is very rare and a whole lot more. Its impossible to mention here.

You really missed out the hill stations in India.. they are superbly amazing ... you don't have to worry about the warm temperatures there either... if you plan accordingly you could even get to trek the mountains in the Himalayas( which is one of the highest ranges in the world) ... & if you are a nature lover north eastern part of India(the seven sisters) is a must visit.. I went there with my family & few relatives (12 of us) & we absolutely loved it.. & as u said India is extremely cheap.

I so very much want to visit India. I just read the book "A Long Way Home" - the book that became the movie "Lion". Now I am obsessed. Anywayz, Lots of good information y'all have given here. Foriegn money is something I have a lot of anxiety about because I'm super bad with math and transactions cause my mind to shut down. The complicated trains and hectic stuff makes me excited. It's good to know they have prepaid taxies. The health suggestions were very good. Luckily I've never gotten sick in Asia but I know I shouldn't let my guard down. Unlike y'all, I always focus on smaller places and and try to cover less territory. THanks so much for all the informative and entertaining videos.

Actually you can travel in South India during from June/July. Travelling across the western ghats when the south west monsoon is in full swing is EPIC. You can even take konkan railway from mumbai to goa to start of the journey. There is also so much more you can see off the usual tourist destinations. Even Indians don't visit these destinations much. This was my epic trip couple of years ago. Mind you I have been to each of these destinations before
    Trip Route
Starts from Goa --> Dharmasthala ----> Coorg ---> Bandipur national park ---->Mysore ----> mudumalai national park ----> Ooty ----> coimbatore ----> Silent valley ----> Palghat ----> Pathanamthitta ---> Calicut.
I am not being biased when I say nothing has even come close to the above route in all my travels across the world. P.S. I like wildlife, rain, cool weather and bikes. Each destination is under 7-8hrs from each other so perfect
    Cheers

If you wanna travel in train then opt for Rajdhani, Duronto, Shatabdi, Humsafar, Sampark Kranti series trains over normal express or SF trains. They usually get more priority, thus get less delayed.
If you travel north India in winter(December-January), then your train will get delayed for fog.
Trains do have AC 3-Tier, AC 2-tier, AC first class. First class is almost 2.5 times more expensive than AC 3-Tier.
There is non-AC sleeper class in most trains, they are almost 60% cheaper than AC-3 tier, but not recommended for foreigners.
If any problem is faced in train do contact TTE of that train, you may tweet it to indian railways.

Why are you telling people to take freelance taxis? People will get scammed. Inform them to use ride shares like Uber or Ola. It is dirt cheap. They can order both cars or tuk tuk from these platforms. Also, digital payments is high in big cities. Even the road side sellers now have digital payments like PayTM and GooglePay.
Get the SIM card from the airport, way less hassle, but a little expensive. And always use Google reviews or Tripadvisor to check reviews of a place.

No need to be too worried about the demonetisation thing. That does not happen often, since independence this was the second time (the last one was in 1978).
Good thing is now you have lot of places which accepts cards or e-wallets. You can install apps like Uber, Ola for intra-city ride (available in almost all major cities) and Red bus for travels which accepts card payments. You can install PayTM app, which allows you to make payments at lot of places.

you can go to leh ladak, kerela, goa, andaman and nigobar islands, and vishakapatnam. Even cover mountains in Himachal. Just a tip, choose a state instead of the complete area. And airfare is much cheaper than 1st class or 2nd class train rides.

if you want to save time travelling you can always opt for flight. India is well connected through air. It's also cheap.. Domestic flights are becoming more and more popular in India.

Just want to add something.....there are few helpful apps for the tourists.....use Ola or Uber to book cabs, use Oyo rooms for hotel booking, use Zomato for finding good restaurants.......health issues that you mentioned is absolutely correct....It is not only for foreigners but also for Indians like me.....I always keep hand sanitizer in bag......it is essential in India......stomach ailments are very common here....so it is very important to take precautions......

I now live in Toronto, but as someone who grew up in Delhi, your tips are quite spot on! India can be your best/worst travel destination.
I would recommend that if you ever visit India again, try Goa and Kerala (more towards the South), and Sikkim and Darjeeling (more towards North East). You're looking at some serious diversity in terms of food and natural beauty. Thanks for visiting my hometown!

WOW! , that was a brutally honest review about India. Everybody would surely experience these kinds of incidents while traveling in India.
Next time visit the state of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand - the land of gods.
Apart from Rishikesh(Yoga capital of the world), you can visit world-renowned conservation parks like ‘Jim Corbett Tiger National Park’ or world heritage sites like ‘Valley of Flowers’ and ‘Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve’, etc.
Uttarakhand holds many important pilgrimage places for Hindus and Sikhs and provides you with the right mixture of Spirituality and adventure sports.
the Gangotri glacier (primary sources of the holy Ganges), the Tehri Lake festival, skiing in Auli.
    Places to visit in Uttarakhand:-
    Chopta
    Auli
    Nainital
    Char Dham

    Hemkund Sahib

From an Indian living in Canada -
I watch such videos when I miss India and food, loved your videos!
I second every tip you've shared, great job! This video should really be in the checklist for anybody planning on travelling to India.
To be honest, the Auto drivers are a pain for locals too, they try to squeeze as much money as they can, really aggressive. And there are really good auto drivers who are the most humble and honest people, but if you are using this transportation your tip nails it.
Most of the cities now have Uber & Ola cabs they are not very expensive and safer in my opinion.
I wouldn't judge the restaurants with the point you made on goat heads being skinned on the street and left in the sun, it's funny how you went vegan most of your trip after seeing that.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you very much! That is great to hear about uber and ola cabs. That point has been mentioned a few times now and I wish we had of known about it ourselves but I'm glad anybody reading the comments will consider that as an option. You're right about meeting some very kind and honest autorickshaw drivers.

you can use uber and ola in major cities, see if they show up on apps. Hand sanitizer applies even to Indians if you are traveling long distances on trains, it's a tropical country prone to infections

Sorry for spamming you with comments. I am watching a lot of your videos back to back during the lockdown 🙈🙈 great and practical travel tips though👍. Few more if I may...take an uber or Ola. When you are travelling to and from your hotel, take a hotel taxi. It maybe a bit more pricey but is safer, especially from airport or railway station. Try smaller cities like Shimla, munnar, or southern cities like cochin, pondicherry. There you can go easy and stress free. Carry mosquito repellent. Save local emergency numbers on your phone on speed dial. Also, try to travel during the day as you have mentioned 👍

India is my favorite destination, its incredible! I have managed to avoid the dreaded Delhi Belly, my tips would be stay veggie, use hand sanitizer and use bottled water for everything. Another thing I was told most stomach bugs come from touching the money. The lower denomination notes are dirty! I use hand sanitizer every time I touch the money.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great tips! Yeah, I think it is often from touching things like doorknobs or money or other objects that can cause more issues than even the food.

  • @neosmith166
    @neosmith166 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

One more to add: In major cities, you can get App based Taxi such as Uber, Ola at least . This has been for several years now so unless you want to experience what an auto rickshaw is, better take the Ola/Uber. It is safer and you look up addresses and track your journey right in the App.
Second, domestic flights are same or cheaper than trains. You can even book just a couple of days in advance. So again if you are okay forgoing the site seeing experience on trains, better get the flights. The flights quite frequent and comfortable.

One universal Tip if you are travelling in India: Don't Panic. We Indians have mastered Jugggad(fruggal engineering) there is a way out of every imaginable problem there is 😉. There is a famous quote by some thinker(maybe) if God shuts one door he open 100more, so don't panic.
Demonetization is over so there is no need to carry whole lot of cash with you all the time.(carrying huge amount of cash also brings security issues) so better to avoid it.
Train tip: you said your maximum delay was 5hours (that's cute) sometimes it can go upto 24hours even for 1000kms journey especially during winters November to January so plan ahead and bring some sort of entertainment or book to read. Trains running out of water is a common thing even for us but since we have Jugggad we looks for other options.(tissues wet wipes etc etc).
If you traveling in Big to medium size cities and not sure about auto rickshaws( please don't call them tuk tuk, same kind of transport in Thailand is called tuk tuk but in India it's auto rickshaw) go for Uber or Ola(Indian apptaxi). Those rickshaw people even charge us Indians double the amount if we do not belong to that place.
About food: Again don't panic eat your hearts out live a little YOLO style but always carry a bottle of water and some sort of mild laxative (indian version:hajmola tablets).
about time of visiting India it depends on which places you are planing to visit but avoid summers April till July.
    😀

Samuel and Audrey Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos I just found out your channel and its amazing.

You can try booking your train tickets using IRCTC website which is much easier than standing in Q for a ticket. You can try Redbus for bus bookings, although it may not cover all parts of India. Selection of hotels above 3*** will be a better option due to cleanliness and service. In India, you get what you pay for, more the money, better the service and Quality.

For the transportation purpose i would recommend you to use UBER OLA CABS in India. They are pretty good and reliable. In india the auto rickshaws charge you more if they come to know that you are not from that particular place. So from my personal experience i would say use CABS .
In every 500 kms you will experience a different India : culture language etc.
Visit the hill stations . its really beautiful....

Hi I am getting ready to go to India and wanted to ask, how did you guys book the trains in India? Is there a website you would recommend, and app? What resources did you use to book hotels and trains?

You have to visit Himachal Pradesh (McLeodGanj, Manali, Tosh, etc) its peaceful, with mountains, rivers, cafes and good weather. Also, the people are very nice.
