    Dionne Warwick Alfie Live reaction
    Starts at 02:25
    1. I can totally see how this song would fit into the movie.
    2. I didn't like the beginning but it grew on me really quick

This is my all-time favorite song... not only for the beautiful singing & composition... but also because of the very powerful lyrics that are like poetry...!!!
The movie is also one of the best from that era...!!! 👍

Dionne is a masterful singer and with a unique voice, it’s no wonder Bacharach favored her for many of his songs. This is still the best version.

Remember Dionne Warwick is Whitney Houstons older cousin and was a huge star before Whitney!

This song was originally written for her but the management wanted a British singer to sing the song for the movie. It was then recorded by more than 40 artists but it never became a hit and got inducteed to the Grammy Hall of Fame until Ms. Dionne Warwick sang the song. I mean, a song written for her will always be hers.

Absolutely 💯. This is the only version that was the original and became a hit. He needs to get his story right!!! Celia recording flopped and she tried to mimick Ms. Dionne, but no one can.

Great movie, Great song, Great reaction ... I often find myself singing the line "What's it all about, Alfie" as a commentary to many of life's moments so the song definitely burrowed it's way into my subconscious some 50 years ago. Side note regarding Michael Caine, he is an amazing actor with an incredible filmography ... you should check out two of his best: Sleuth, 1972 with Laurence Olivier; and Death Trap 1982 with Christopher Reeve

Jay...enjoyed your intro for the song...I believe Cher sang the song at the end of the movie...one of the best collaborations of Burt Bacharach and Hal David...difficult to ruin a song of this calibre...

Bacharach and Hal David are unsung heroes imho. I’m a musician and all but I’ve studied theory and they’re fantastic.

Dionne and Cilla Black both did Bacharach songs each side of the pond with each country supporting their singer i think Cilla edges this song with dionne edging anyone who had a heart. Please do listen to cilla version and there is a studio video to see too.

Wow! Thank you for reacting. What a great reaction as always.. FYI. Dionne was the 43rd singer to record the song. I would again ask you to react on Dionne's Make it Easy On Yourself 1973 and After You/I'll never love this way again live 1982. Hoping you will see this late comment:)

And ironically the best version, it’s no wonder Bacharach wanted her to do it originally.

In interviews, Dionne Warwick has commented that 'Alfie' was the song that catapulted her career to new heights. Knowing that Dionne was very disappointed when she wasn't chosen to record the song for the movie soundtrack, Burt Bacharach and Hal David arranged for Dionne to sing the Oscar-nominated song at the 1967 Academy Awards and she knocked it out the park.

They then rushed her into the studio to release the single and the rest, as they say, is history.

@@jaybrielakoi7747 I think Dionne overstate it a little. Don't Make Me Over, then Any One Who Had a Heart...the Walk on By...by the time Alfie...Dionne was a massive star. She had already had 20 plus hits all over the world.

Cila Black's version was also amazing. She said she didn't want to record it unless Burt Bacharach personally came to England to arrange, conduct and play in the recording session. She was trying to get out of doing it. But he agreed to come to England and meet all her demands, so she did it. And it was amazing.

This live version is very slow, strange pause at the start, but well sung of course in the kind of jazzy style.

@@jaybrielakoi7747 because you can always listen to the recording...when singers are live singers like D.W. they can give a more nuanced performance and perhaps you will hear something different...

Celia Black did not make a hit out of this song. All 42 versions of this song among other artist, including Celia Black was not a hit. Ms. Dionne version was the definitive version that made it a hit. She was the 43rd artist that did it. When in actuality, she was the first to record it, but because of the red tape behind movie executives around the world, they wanted an artist to their choice to record it.
