I haven't even watched this video yet, and I feel like you made this just for me. Feeling awkward about vlogging in public is the number one thing I am going to be working hard at to overcome. THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
I JUST recorded my first vid last week (hiking stuff) and as a pretty introverted person, I found it a huge challenge to act and feel "normal" on camera. I wouldn't consider it "in public" like where you are here, but coming up on other hikers and getting weird looks is just super uncomfortable for me. I imagine it'll get easier over time but my biggest concern is trying to find an extroverted part of myself so my presence will feel friendly and welcoming. I had been wanting to start vids last year but kept putting it off over those concerns. My knowledge base and skill levels are at a 1 right now but there's no way I can work on camera presence, equipment familiarity, trip planning, how to record better content, how to record ENOUGH content, how long to focus on landmarks and such...without just getting out of my head and DOING IT. Lots of these tips are quite helpful for some of those "uncomfortable" scenarios, so thanks for sharing!
I never get the content I want because I get self conscious when vlogging in public! I am trying to overcome my fear of vlogging in public this year! Thank you for this video! It’s super helpful!
Great tips. You’re right about practice. It’s a muscle I’m trying to build. I try to approach like this...I’m doing my audience a disservice if I let fear hold me back. By doing it for them, it becomes less about me and my own insecurities. Makes it easier to get out of my head and let it flow. Treating the camera like FaceTime is gold.
This has honestly been so useful! As I continue vlogging while travelling, I’m definitely getting more comfortable and confident with it. The main thing for me though, is I’m always wary of disturbing people or being too loud 😩

Thank you so much for this video. Just loved the way you simplified it for new vloggers. I think these tips are way more important than which camera to use or which mic to use. Majorly struggling with these issues while shooting in public. I end up shooting the footage without me in it and later adding VO to it, but the impact is definitely not the same. Looks like I need to make more video sin public and this video is worth a bookmark. Thanks again.
At Christmas time I was filming a beautiful light display...in particular, I was walking along bushes with very colorful lights. The sidewalk I was on was at least 10 feet wide. A guy is walking along the bushes and covers his face and was angry I caught him on camera. I was fiming the bushes! I didn't even see him! And he had at least 8 feet on the other side of me where he could've walked. How could anyone be so grumpy in such a beautiful place?! That brief comment bothered me for days. Ugh. I went back the next evening when there were less people and did it over again. I need to be more aware of people around me and yet keep our viewers in mind of what will interest them. I'm still a work in progress. Hi Nick!!! Happy New Year guys!!
Wow I needed this video. Thank you for the tips and the encouragement. Also I’m impressed with the GH5 autofocus on your face. I’ve been ripping my hair out for the last 3 hours trying to get the autofocus to focus on my face.

Very helpful!!! Definitely my biggest fear and it shows in my videos I think and drives me crazy how much I get into my head. Thank you again for this!
Took us a while to get used to filming. I used to wait until people passed. Now, we go for it!
AFTER watching the entire videos. I feel so APPRECIATED IT!
This is very helpful to me after two years you uploaded. Thank you very much for inspiring new youtubers like us. This channel deserves more ❤️❤️
You know what! I like it. I vlog in my back yard and I don't give a crap about what people think but I'll try and not be a jerk if I can but it must be waaay easier to vlog in a place where your a tourist is think... God I miss travelling.
Wow, saw this late but great video. I love "pretend your talking Facetime to family at home" and "being you".
This is the type of content, I pay my internet bills for...❤
Nice video, thank you for sharing. I find it easier being a traveler in a different place vlogging than doing it in my home town....Here in Tasmania, cameras are met with so much negativity. even doing a time lapse can create conflict..I embrace being away in a different place where I can film...
Yeah sometimes people get weird about cameras. Just gotta find spots where you won’t be bothered.
Out of all the videos I watched on this subject this one helped me tremendously, you're the best man. Thank you!
What a great Video! You know what I also have the same fear of public talking to myself in the camera! But after watching this video I will overcome this fear and work on it! I have started vlogging and it is going okay.
Best video ever. Thanks for sharing. I think creators starting out like myself really need to see this. The place where I am from the people are really camera Conscious and shy.
great topic! I am traveling abroad and I have been shy about filming - thanks!
Get out there and film in public 😀
Thank you for the tips. Just did my second video New Years Day in the ocean and I had people in the background waving and and screaming to get into the video while in the water and didn’t even notice until i had already posted the content! Haha great video guys!
oh that’s the thing I was looking. Its really hard to vlog in some crowded places. This help me a lot. Thanks Jeven again
I've got better at this since the last time that you did a video on this subject, but there is still quite a ways to go until it's comfortable!! Thanks again!!
Very thankful I found you. Super excellence. I learned alot and will listen again. Thank you very much for sharing your journey. Thank you for keeping it real
I'm watching and feeling calm and thanks I'm not only that person who's feeling such during vlogging .
I thought this videos was very insightful and I hope these tips help me get over being so nervous filming myself in public. Also, I saw that there was they guy with glasses and a hat following you around trying to get in every shot. Funny stuff and probably stressful too. Thanks Jeven.
Thanks for sharing this video! The tips are very approachable but even more than that, I think the editing, framing, casual conversation, and stable footage really hi-light the best bits of this genre of filmmaking, in my opinion ❤️ Well executed and very inspiring!
I just started my vlog journey and these are super helpful actionable tips! You inspire us small vloggers!❤
Hey Jeven. I liked your comment about taking a break and then finding it awkward to get back into public vlogging. It’s like exercise. If you stop for a month or two, it’s harder to start again.
