Doorkins Magnificat: much-loved Southwark Cathedral cat passed away, as was reported at the beginning of October 2020 (CE). Doorkins had lived at the cathedral for 11 years before retiring last year.
Eleven good years, well-spent for any cat. There's a real feeling of something ethereal, divine, and soul-soothing seeing Doorkins poking her head around the venerable old church and crawling through the mazes of dark wood pews. Clearly, she's saying, "I belong here, and so do you." Rest in peace; romp in Paradise. And when you're loitering around Heaven's gate, remember to hop onto St. Peter's entry book every so often and sit there serenely on the pages, waiting for scritches from those entering.
When I was an alcoholic, and so scared of everything in life, I came back from rehab, dirty, hungry, and terrified - to find my cat (Whom my neighbours had been caring for whilst I was away) miaowing at the door. I spent a terrible week in withdrawals and he was there. Always. He's not dead, he's asleep on my feet right now, but he was there for me every day. He actually was part of my returning to human existence, because obviously I needed to buy food for him. I agree with the thoughts of the vicars at this cathedral. Cats (or dogs, or any animals or birds) are so loving. I love my cat.
Nov 5th, 2019 ... “It is with great sadness to say that I am now not living at Southwark Cathedral. “Due to my deteriorating health especially eyesight (I keep bumping into old things … not the Dean!) I am going to be living with one of the cathedral staff where I will enjoy my semi-retirement. “Please don’t worry about me, I will be ‘taking over’ a home with someone I have known for many years and love to bits. I know I am going to be very happy there surrounded by so much love and affection plus food, very good food!” ~Doorkins Magnificat
Doorkins was a beautiful being. I was a Welcomer at the Cathedral and watched as visitors loved to see her curled up on a cushion, sitting on the Bishop's chair, walking around as if the Cathedral belonged to her, curled up in the hay beside the Nativity crib or popping out during a Service to see what was going on. Dearly loved and greatly missed. RIP Doorkins!
l was so impressed when l saw her dishes kept by the font + became a regular visitor. Southwark is very comforting. l love this video hearing The Dean and Paul Timms speak about Doorkins importance in the Cathedral for many. God bless them for their warm hearts and for her service which helped us for ALL our departed pets 🙏
Larry, the chief mouser of Nr 10. Palmerston, the chief mouser of the foreign office. Doorkins Magnificat, the Cathedral cat. I love all the cats that serve in high positions in Brittan.
I had the pleasure of meeting Doorkins when my family and I stopped by the Southwark Cathedral last summer. We had wandered in there while trying to find a bathroom and decided to check the place out. My father spotted her and told my mother and I there was a real cat in the Cathedral. I didn't believe him. We decided to say hello to her. My mother somehow didn't notice a sign saying she didn't like to be pet when she was tired or in a bad mood (something of the sorts). She gave my mom a little nip when she tried to pet her. Needless to say, my mother did not have a good experience with dear Doorkins.
We need to respect cats and all other animals right to social distance. Not all humans like hugs just as not all cats like to be petted. Please dont hold it against her 😻
@@elsjemassyn8921 Exactly Elsje, and she may have been ailing even then or in pain. She did once allow me to free her claw from a cushion but l did not stroke her fur. Sadly the deafening trauma of the terrorist attacks were her undoing after being outside when it happened and unable to get back in while the Catherdral was closed down by Police for days. The Dean reported the kind police had fed her, but she never set foot outside the doors again to see her friends in Borough Market. RIP to all who lost their lives. RIP dear Doorkins 💔
Doorkins steals the throne, right in front of the Queen! Message from the world’s cats: we’re running things now, you humans have had your day (ok by me, just another cat-servant, but meaning no disrespect to Her Majesty, whom I greatly admire).
It has been a long time since she passed. I've followed since. I must stop now since I know you are still taking care of her. As an old retired man I find you boys to be fantastic ! May God bless you all in the light of his grace. St. Francis would be proud. A very pleasant farewell.
I've just watched the lovely memorial service for her online, I wish that I had been there in person. It was thoughtful of them to do this, the service was thought provoking and moving. How could anyone be offended? If you are not Christian and just here to troll, then forget it. You're a jerk.
Though I'm not Christian (or religious, for that matter), I do love cats, and I thought the memorial to Doorkins was incredibly moving and beautiful. This was a human moment, and cats don't discriminate when it comes to the religious beliefs (or lack thereof) of the humans around them; if you care for them and treat them with respect, they'll give it back to you tenfold.
@@miaomiaochan Like you, I am not a Christian. In fact, I am a staunch atheist, having learnt, from having beem within the "church" that there are many really nasty "Christians", apparently like valeriebaker9512. I object strongly to "Christians" like valeriebaker9512 in splitting good people (Christians, apparently) from evil non Christians. I am at least as much an animal lover as she claims to be and I know that I am a good, caring person without needing to follow orders to behave well. I am deeply touched that they had a memorial service for Doorkins.
She's a QUEENLY-looking cat to be honest. A queen belonging where queens would be in real life. AND She wants to be around the grounds worshipping God, I'd say.
What happened to Dorkins ? I have been watching a much loved cat in recent viewings. I adore cats but in my old age I have become allergic to cats along with gluten. It leaves me sad and lonely. I am wheelchair reliant now and my husband died 9 months ago. I live in the country. I do enjoy the Canterbury cathedral postings they help me a lot. 😊
CATS RULE FOR CENTURIES ! R.I.P. LITTLE FURRY FELLOW AND MAY CEILING CAT BLESS YOU. P.S. MORE CATS IN CAThedrals, MORE CHRISTIANS IN THE CHURCHES AND CATHEDRAS.
It's the Spirit of God that draws people, not cats or other such things. I'm curious what kind of preaching would be heard in such a church. That one needs to believe in God and accept His Son as their Saviour? Or that they can just come to church to hear feel good sermons?
There are different forms of christianity. Some try to scare people into becoming followers, others try to comfort them and help them out in hard times, even if it takes a cat to do so. I'll choose the latter one. You say using a cat to draw people in is not okay, but fear of eternal hell is okay to use? I don't think so.
It's the Spirit of God that cares for all creatures great and small! May I assure you that the Christian faith and the sermons preached at the Cathedral praise God Almighty and worship Him with joy. Their loving-kindness fuelled by God's Spirit also includes the welcoming of the poor, the homeless and even a little stray cat that became part of the Cathedral's family.
see your name, lol, that's a typical thinking from your kind. No one is perfect, even imam and your religious leaders did those crime, just search it in Google.
@@ophajoyer4503 just because he has a Arabic name doesn't immediately mean he's muslim you know. And don't speak about 'your kind' as if muslims are all the same. Doorkins Magnificat had a furbulous life, RIP lovely girl and hope you're making heavenly biscuits up there
Aww! Sad to hear that, sounds like she had a good long life though
Oh no so sad 🐈❤😐 adorable gatito RIP in the heavens of cats and presence of God. Amen. Blessings from Lima Peru

RIP little one. As a cat lover I know you brought a smile to millions of people in your time. (I hope the gates have a cat door)
Of course they do 🥰😻. I certainly believe those gates have a special pet gate
Yes, absolutely they do. These sweet souls, all animals I believe, get welcomed right in and they have endless supply of heavenly treats I imagine.
I should think she waited for the Queen to carry her through. Because that's cat behaviour
@@msmltvcktl She probably walked right through the bars of the gates and sat in the "big chair".. Mine... Curled up and went to sleep.
Even if there was a cat door, I'm sure the kitty would insist on opening the whole big Gate to be let in 😄

Lovely! What a pretty cat. Cats understand kindness and generosity. Thank you.
And that my friends is why therapy pets should be considered in nursing homes...

When she died last year the cathedral held a memorial service for her.
After being persecuted in the Middle Ages hope they are conquering the place
To think that Heaven could be over run with cats, would be heavenly.

and ppl wonder why the egyptians worshipped cats
Yeah because cat first tamed in middle east.
Well said

I too found out the hard way, trying to take a photo of her, accidently woke her up and whack! A nice scratch on my hand. She was beautiful though
Doorkins has published her own book. When a cat does better than you.
All things Bright and Beautiful, indeed.....
Love it - "animals humanize the place". There's always a place, in lofty cathedrals, for ALL to rest & be loved, just as Doorkins is.
Such a cute cat :)
Rest in Peace Doorkins , you have been immortalised in stone in the place you called home. 😿
This is an inspirational story to all the street cats out there.

Beautiful cat. It's smiling.
She's Catholic.
Who else thought they called the cat Dawkins 😂
I get confused with Richard Dawkins is this some sort of backhanded compliment??
Yes!! I laughed at how they called him Doorkins, because it sounded the same as Dawkins which is just too ironic 😂
