    In my opinion, this is the best video on TH-cam for ball stiking and distance. It explains all the key positions and especially the hands on impact. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow at the range. Been trying for years to improve my ball striking and this I think might be my light bulb moment.

    I had a similar session with my new coach last week, gained me 15 yards with a 7iron and made width dispersion so much tighter…all i have to do now is get more consistent with this new swing and work out what my new swing gapping is as im now at least a club longer 😊 i was off 6 when i had the lesson, within 2 rounds got to 5.1…love it.

      Wow that’s amazing! So true about the consistency, Joe really got this during the session but the challenge now is to take it to the course and make it repeatable

    On that first hit after rehearsing getting the hands down lower at delivery, the sound of the hit was really good. Compression has such a beautiful sound and feels like butter when you really catch it good.

    Chris, great video. I think this drill can really help me, getting my hands lower through impact, and like what you do holding up a club perpendicular to your student so he has to keep his hands below the club on the downswing. In the absence of someone to hold the club like you did in the video, I'm thinking of using an alignment stick and set it at a 45-degree angle. Because of the camera angle in the video, can't tell where exactly the club you hold is relative to your student at address - is it roughly even with his trail leg? Thanks!

    Just tried the "Hitting the bag from the top of the swing" routine at the range today and, basically chop the bag in half and turn...THANK YOU. Suddenly I got a slight draw on my shots and my 7-iron 175 yards with a carry of 160yds , I'm 64 so can't expect Bryson distances but today was the best quality strikes I've ever made, well HAPPY SO THANKS AGAIN!

      @@ChrisRyanGolf I've watched all your videos (most more than once) on the back swing and down swing, the importance being on the wrist angle and position of the right arm/elbow and I think I know what I'm supposed to be doing and the results are a big improvement. Where I am confused is in the follow through, particularly with the arms, I've always been an advocate of a full follow through, crossing my forearms, toe of the club to the sky and wrapping it around my neck. I do however see countless professionals doing a "cricket" style shot, almost fighting to keep the club face open and a lot shorter a follow through, can you maybe do a video on the reason for both methods and the pros and cons of both..Thank you again..

    Great video Chris. One question I've got is regarding the movement of the hands and club handle back up whilst the clubhead is still decending down to help create clubhead speed, as you've mentioned also in some of your previous videos. If you groove this movement into your long game, do you advocate transitioning this movement out as you hit 3/4, 1/2, down to short chip shots or do you think it can still work with short chips. My gut feel is that it would put too much pressure on timing with a short shot.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Colin, yes this movement is there for all shots, possibly as you get down to short chips and putting it’s not but for wedges, pitches etc the pattern is still the same, just without the force and speed that is in the full swing

    Chris this is one of the best videos I've seen and really helped me understand how to get that club set low below the grip before impact. Is there a similar video for a driver? I'd like to see that since you have to hit up on the ball with driver. Curious if there's a difference.
    Also how much tension should there be during downswing? I noticed if I keep arms and hands soft it's easier to square the club if I grip it for dear life like I usual do it's hard to turn through and square it up

    Should the trail shoulder drop when trying to get the hands down as well or just the arms/legs lowering?

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The shoulders should be rotating back towards the target which will naturally get the back shoulder moving down a little

    Chris, I get the idea of the benefits of arriving back at Delivery Position with a lower hand position than your hands at address to be able to catapult the club as you move the handle upwards through impact. Can I ask do you have to increase Flexion / Forward Bend and / or knee flex (squat down lower)? How do you recommend we get lower hands into delivery?
    Same question with your hands need in to be further away from your body at Delivery Position than hands position at address. How do pros know the point to hit with hands moving into Delivery? I understand as you re-rotate your forearms they move bank to equivalent address position?

    It’s Pete again….this has made a difference in my downswing. So Chris, please confirm muscle tension, I am pulling my arms and shoulders with my right side back muscles (Lats), momentary hold to begin the transition down with your hands and club by using the left side back muscles (Lats) in pulling the golf club through impact. It’s seems to be automatic when the left side pulls the club down, it causes the right shoulder to drop and begin the weight transfer to the left side ( just as your student is doing in the video). Am I correct? You consistently hit the nail on the head with your lessons. Thanks!

    Thank you so much for the explanation, aha moment for me here 💡
    So the grip being brought down to a lower position than at address in a linear type motion allows for an upward pull of the grip causing a powerful angular momentum kick about the club’s centre of mass, which is the release .
    I think as a teaching aid if I put a piece of coloured tape on the shaft at half way then I can raise the grip with the image of causing a rotational release about the taped point on the shaft, about the centre of mass point.
    I’ve never done this release pattern or realised this is how it’s done, wow. It’s almost like how a crow-bar works only in mid air using momentum, who would have thought, hmmm. No wonder it’s a difficult game to play but even harder to teach,
    Thanks again Chris Ryan 👏👏

    .. tried pulling the grip up away from the ground at impact yesterday, ball went a bit further definitely but also there was more spin from the irons and better contact. Drives went further with a very nice trajectory, might need to go nine degree driver coz ball was ballooning a bit, not sure tho
    On a few shots I heard the ball hiss with the spin when I pulled the club up through impact, even on a 50yd pitch which was very cool and weird. I’ve heard that before with other players and wondered about it.
    I need to refine it a bit but another small improvement discovered. Next time I’ll pull up and in to get a draw and avoid the miss right, thanks again Chris 👍

    Does this apply to hybrids from 7 hybrid to 3 hybrid? These are popular clubs with many seniors. Thank you.
    Update 3 hours later (it finally stopped raining)… went outside and tried these tips: lowering the hands and using the grip end to achieve faster ball speed, and I can honestly say that the results were shockingly good on all hybrids listed above. No electronics or other way to measure distance but I know compression was day/night difference and increased distance was obvious. Same results for pitching/gap wedges. Awesome. ❤

    Why not on downswing start turning lead hip then the thorax toward facing target while initially keeping the hands back and passive to create a whipping action. At impact my arms would align with the side of my body to have the classic tour player position where the chest and hips are facing the target while the hands are at the side of my body.

      This is exactly where I wanted him to be, we just had to use some drills and feels to allow him to get there. The full swings he made at the end were initiated with the hips, upper body rotated and arms worked into a great delivery position

    The part about the release, I really couldnt understand, seen you mention it before too. Do we not use forearm rotation?
    What I dont understand is how does the face square up? In the chopping demo, the face and the shaft are always on the vertical its swung along.
    Please do a more detailed video on this topic.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s tough, but being able to do it in practice but not yet on the course would suggest you are pretty close to doing it. Taking it or the course is really the final stage, abs is hard. I’d suggest changing your practice to replicate the course as much as you can, so space the shots out more in terms of time, change target each time, vary the club often, build pressure, change the lie of the ball all things that happen on the course and this should help

    • @JimmyGreenMachine
      @JimmyGreenMachine 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could be that you are more relaxed on range and stiffen up on course. I've noticed great result by making sure I feel loose and not controlling hands etc. Mentally it could potentially work also to just repeat in your head a couple of times that it's a relaxed range shot.

    • @Rickwynne
      @Rickwynne 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mats usually allow for fat shots to slide through and get a decent impact. Try putting a towel 1-2” behind the ball on the mat and then hit at the range. That will give you instant feedback if you’re hitting fat

    • @cdunne1620
      @cdunne1620 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My advise is to go out on the course and practice, hit two balls for a whole round on your own. The range balls are crap and the mats are not like turf so waste of time. Some range balls have the dimples worn off, how is hitting these balls beneficial, it’s just not. I never go to the range, I practice during competitions and figure it out
