- I recently had the opportunity to help Geoff with his driver swing, in that lesson Geoff made so much progress that I wanted to share with you what we did and break the process down step by step so that you can follow and get the same results.
Geoff was unintentionally over powering the driver causing poor strike and offline golf shots, in this video ill share the simple steps that will allow you to swing the driver with more freedom, speed and consistency
I'd love to hear your thoughts so please drop down into the comments and let me know, plus if you have any questions i'll answer as quick as i can

I am new to golf, and I've been watching your videos. Great help.
Really useful. Thanks for sharing it.
Superb instruction Chris, jam packed full of Information, it'll really help with the changes I'm to my swing currently.
Keep up the great content.
Thanks, glad it’s helped
love the video, will watch that over and over, thanks
Thanks Gary
I will watch it once and maybe a couple more times
Great video and a perfect recap of a fantastic lesson, thanks again Chris
Thanks Geoff 🙌
I have found I keep my lead arm straight through the whole swing, when I start my takeaway the way you explained. Cheers for the advice!
Thanks 🙌
Thank you - clear, no frills, absolute sense. Off I go to the range (because of constant rain and courses closed!)
Thanks 🙌
Nice one Chris. Thank you.
Thanks Marcus
Another great video, Chris. I enjoy the time you take to illustrate the detail of the move we should be trying to make with arms extended. I know that when I actually feel like I’m doing this properly then suddenly I start to hit some high draws instead of my normal weak fades and pushes. Thanks for the great lesson and reminders!
Thanks, and sounds like you are on the right track with that move
Well done Chris 👏 😊
Thanks Roy
Great video, Chris, just watched today’s Danny Maude video which reflects exactly what you’re teaching - I’m too wooden at the mo’ I also have my body moving too far towards target on downswing. Driver has stayed in the bag, but need to SWING the club more freely. Some great drills here, so over range tomorrow to give them a go 👍 All the best, Ken
So common Ken, I’d first start by just setting your focus on the target and what you are intending to do and keep released, sometimes we are too precise and it limits freedom of movement
Great illustration of how club head speed is added plus how to do that.
Excellent job Chris on how to properly hit the driver well! A number of things I liked in this video! I liked the idea of pushing the grip away from the body and squeezing the elbows together to a through position. Less grip pressure and swing the club up to produce more energy. The "belly button" drill with the belt buckle extended to the target and the chest to the sky was great! Well Done Chis!
Thanks John appreciate it 🙌
best driver lesson ive ever seen!
Thanks Charles appreciate that 🙌
Great content. I live the reverse swing
Thanks Newton.
Great Advice tips
Excellent!
Great video Chris. I have seen a number of videos talking about the upward handle creating speed. I still do not fully understand how to do this. Get the concept, but do you pull your hands up? Jump up? etc. Would love more granular details on this aspect if you are thinking of further videos on the topic! Great stuff.
Yeah definitely think it warranty a more detailed version, the push up with the body helps, it there are more factors so I’ll look to do something on that topic
Think timing of body turn on downswing crucial. Too early will create problem. Lead arm/shoulder going up after low point provides lift/acceleration. Good luck
Another great video! Thanks a lot!
Thanks 🙌
A lot to take in, but great instruction, loads to think about, but must try this Chris especially stop throwing body forward and head, hope this will stop my severe loss of distance and accuracy. Thanks.
Hope it helps Mick
So do I.
Such a fantastic video.
Thanks 🙌
Another great video Chris. Does the extension drill apply equally to irons too? Many thanks.
It does yes
CR keeps it simple!
Outstanding video!!!!! (8HDC)
I know this lesson is specific for driver Chris, however, could I use some of these moves when swinging a wood, hybrid or iron? Or, do you have another video which would help me more effectively with these clubs? Thanks
Love the videos. I currently have an attack angle of about 7 - 9 degrees up, making my dynamic loft end up somewhere close to 20 - 25 degrees. Any tips on how to improve this? I have started to limit my shoulder tilt already, but still ballooning shots out to the right. Thanks in advance.
Yeah that’s a touch high, although rather be there Vs 7 degrees down
Without seeing the swing it’s tough to say exactly, but in practice, this is really tough, but hit some drives off the ground, no tee
You will be forced to Kobe your attack angle closer to level to even strike it. Won’t happen instantly but if you add that to your practice you should start to see a difference, just focus on strike rather than end result
Hey Chris, are you saying that the standing up in the follow-through is the upward pull on the club and not a conscious effort to pull up on the club with the arms? I am assuming this is the case to prevent engaging the arm muscles and locking them up?
It’s part of it yes. There are a few ways that we can move the grip
Upwards and this is one of those ways
Will it help addressing the ball from the toe
Very good point here with driver, but how we should do when we hit irons?
Almost the same move with irons, just attack angle that would change
Arnold Palmer swung without pelvic extension and so do many of the best LPGA players like Min Jee Lee. This is not a bad thing and it's why Arnold never had back problems.
I would agree that there are some that extend the pelvis less, but not sure it’s accurate to say that he didn’t t have pelvic extension
So for the average golfer you like to see them maintain their pelvic bend through the downswing into the follow through?
@@ChrisRyanGolf No, I don't advocate for no pelvic extension but I recently noticed this about Arnold and I thought it was interesting. I'm pretty sure this is what Como taught Tiger to protect his back.
If you had a way to explain golf to anyone simply and fully understandably in 2 minutes, how would you sell it or monetize it?
Tough question as I don’t believe that’s possible in 2 minutes
Chris where about are you in the country, are you close to Southend by any chance?I could come for a one on one lesson hopefully
Midlands I’m afraid, around the Birmingham area
Oh god, I wish this video is released much earlier, so many useful tips in it 🏌⛳
Well hope it’s not too late
