I’ve used the one foot back in my rehearsal swing prior to squaring up and actually hitting just to get the feel. It’s amazing the difference it made.
100%! I really like it for my swing as well
-Eric
I took a couple of lessons from Rick Smith over 35 years ago, he is exceptional at analyzing someone’s swing and correcting a couple of things that will help everything. Unfortunately over the years I can’t swing hit the way I did back then ….but he is really good. I stood on the driving range at the Honda and watched Rocco hit ball after ball with a 7 iron perfect draw and it was obvious he had his right foot back on every shot. I’ve watched him on TV and he does the same thing, it looks effortless.
Hes one of the best for sure!
Wow! What a revelation... I was struggling with a high weak fade or slice
Went to the range after I watched you vid ... man I was hitting it so much better .. Will keep working on this
Cheers from Australia
Love it!
-Eric
Another great session Eric. Familiar with Rick but had never seen this drill communicated in quite this way. Thanks for another helpful lesson.-Be good-Russ
Thanks Russ! Good fun with Rick---he's great!!
-Eric
Thanks for sharing. It’s winter here and this will be a great drill for inside practice.
You go it Edward---hope it serves you well
-Eric
This two are a dynamic duo!!❤
:) Good fun with Rick--he's one of the best!
-Eric
Big Rick! Miss you buddy! So lucky to have worked under you for a couple years.
Ricks the best!! You're lucky!!
-Eric
Love this…thanks guys
Thanks Peter!
-Eric
I'm a complete beginner, and this will help big time. Thank you!
I like it--let us know how it goes!
My golf instructor Jess Frank told me this and instantly my slice with the driver was history. I always tee off with my right foot back. Works like a charm!
So true! It’s crazy how much this one small adjustment corrects
Love it---Jess one of the best guys in golf!
-Eric
Bowler Drill!
@@PerformanceGolfZonemore succinct videos for me wouldnbe helpful. Getbthe points across first with the slide. Then review point by point in detail then review again repition in a concise manner I think that helps me and others
Super excited to try this out next time I go to the driving range!
Hope it helps ya!
Terrific drill! Can’t wait to try it out at the range!
Thanks David--hope it helps ya!
-Eric
Make great sense. I am going try this next time out.
Hope it helps ya Michael!
-Eric
That’s amazing, why didn’t I know this before? I already pull my right foot back just a little when driving and my drives are very straight or a small draw. But my irons are weak and small fades. Tried this and immediately got much better contact, compression and distance. And I didn’t hit the ball far left as it felt like I might. This immediately added 20 yards to my eight iron. Thanks so much, I’ll definitely work on this.
you got it---hope this one helps ya!
-Eric
Very interesting tip.
Hope it helps ya!
I’ve watched Eric do this a couple times on videos. I had a head on collision and broke my neck. I do not move our twist well .back foot back has made me hit straight. Drives again without a slice before accident 260-270 now it 76 in a year into the accident. I’m back to 230 straight drives great video.
Hey! Glad to hear this has helped get you back on track! Hope you continue enjoying your golf!!
Will definitely try this out on the range next time!
Let us know how it goes!
-Eric
It really works!
Yes :)
Playing a round today. Going to try this at the range for a bit beforehand to see what kind of feedback I get. Thanks guys!
Hope this helps ya!
-Eric
Believe it or not i actually figured this drill out on my own sort of by accident. However, i appreciate this video going more into depth. Its been added to my favorites. Nice demonstrations 👍
Appreciate it---love to hear that!
-Eric
did this back foot back a little with the irons - did not get the divit but got a better feel in the contact and no slices/hooks.
Thats a good start Carey!!
-Eric
Tried this today well playing a round and it was one of my best ball striking days in a long time .fired a 77😊
Glad it helped! Appreciate you being here with us!
-Eric
Used it again today and fired a 78 with no birdies now need to find a putting tip
Lots in common with stack and tilt!
Mind officially blown 🤯
:)
I've only ever tried one gimmicky drill: left heel off the ground at address, which was an old Henry Cotton drill that Gary Player recommended. I was only doing it because I had a terrible left rib problem and was trying to take the strain off my left side. Really, i shouldn't have been practising. Needed an operation to have the rib removed. Anyway, David leadbetters old coach: Terry westbrook, suddenly pitched up behind me. He was pitching for a job with the national team and was with the boss of the team, who assumed the drill that I was doing was my actual method and considered me to be a good guinea pig to test terry out as a coach. Anyway he taught me the takeaway open sandwiches method: right palm facing the sky, half way back, which wasn't good. But, irony of all ironies I have actually incorporated it into my left hand extensor extension swing drill, in which I hold the club out to the left with my left hand; and, then press my left hand in front of the clubhead. This actually sets the club into motion, on its arc. I then put my right hand on the club as I swing back. But, I turn my right hand up to the sky as i swing my right arm back, to place my hand on the club. Obviously, my right palm isn't facing up to the sky when I place it on the club. The hand actually bounces back it into position, but in a deeper position. And, the deeper you swing back the more space you have in the downswing. But, I do think that it is a big mistake to actually try to approach the ball from the inside, in the trans- just as it is a big fault to try to swing around from the top. So this is the swing exercise, you need to do: when you get to the top of your backswing keep pushing back with your left wrist joint. This will increase the cupping of your left wrist and it will actually help to fuse your hands together. The left hand, in effect, will be pressing against your right hand. This will then enable you to start your downswing by pressing the index finger side of your left hand towards the thumb pad of your right hand.
Thanks for the feedback and advice there!!
Dennis
Makes so much sense
Thanks!
I'm playing like this!
Excellent!
Question: At top of backswing where should weight on right foot? Does it go still into heel or does it stay more toward ball of foot?
More toward the heel
Like Rocco, I’m playing this way. Never hit it so solid consistently!
Love it David!
Arms down is that a pulling down of the arms to start or are you shifting to left first and allowing the arms to drop down on the inside
Great question Garry! That's really going to depend on the players pattern....we'll do more on that here moving forward but in the meantime here's one on that topic from my channel where I explain more
th-cam.com/video/16eB11zmKI4/w-d-xo.html
I've been playing like this for a while unfortunately I really fat the ball can you explain or do a video on how to get back to hitting in front of the ball from that position
Really want to focus on the second part if you're hitting fat (the getting the right shoulder forward)....that will move your low point back to forward while still swinging from inside
Would this help a golfer with big tummy? I feel like I get belly blocked on downswing.
I think so! Try it out and let us know how you get on
This is how I learned to hit in to out. Chronic slicer year 1. Draws and hooks year 2😂
Love it---slice to hooks is a GREAT....FIRST......step :)
-Eric
I hit the ball well with this stance but it hurts my back. Rocco says it takes pressure off his back. Any ideas?
Hey! Not sure on that one...would really have to see your swing to say for sure
Hey Eric, where is the link you were talking about? The 50 drills from Rick for like $50.00?
Hi! Here is the link to Rick’s Perfect Impact Program -www.performancegolf.com/perfect-impact-program/affiliate/hybrid-sc?a_aid=ericcogorno&a_cid=756e76c4&
So wait - are we saying you dont ever go back to levelling out your foot postion?
You can! Dont have to....try different variations and see what works best for ya!
Why isn’t the golf swing played from this position? You should tech dynamic ground forces. This type of drill is a bandaid
Appreciate the feedback Daniel!
-Eric
Make a proper golf swing turn and golf becomes easy. Right foot back enables the turn in the back swing
Agreed! Huge part!
-ERic
Would have liked to hear the answer to the question, “why don’t I play like this all the time?” Surely it can’t be it’s better as it’s only a drill???!
HAha I hear ya....I'd saw the answer is...."go ahead" :)
-Eric
I actually use this for my game for the last 3 months and the results are amazing.
Sometimes I set up for a draw and I’ll absolutely nut it. Everything feels perfect yet the ball still fades. Anybody know what can cause this?
Either still an out to in swing path (steep) or an open club face at impact,
most likely the first option if you sometimes hit straight pulls
The light just turned on after 40 years......
Lol better late than never :)
-Eric
Apple cut into 1000 slices is still 1 apple. Modern instruction is similar with more looks from.high speed video but the fundamentals remain the same
Old school guys like Rick keep it simple. Now we call it rotation and side bend and in the 90s and before they called it clearing the hips.
Yessir!
Is this still ok with the driver??
Definitely!
-Eric
You're always swinging and rotating over the lead leg. As soon as your center of gravity moves off of that you are screwed.
:)
Over complicated for my level, may work for the low handicap golfer.
My dad’s a 20 handicap and this fixed multiple things in his swing, primarily his slice.
I'm a complete noob. I like how easy to digest his instruction was!
I hear ya----we will work to simplify things moving forward! Thanks for watching!
-Eric
I Really dont agree with this approach. The golf club is supposed to be parallel from the start and not from the inside. Watch the movement that Justin Tomas makes before hitting with his iron. I find that the suggested movement complicates the swing.
All good Marc---thanks for the feedback!
Pourquoi les pros ne jouent pas comme cela😅
:)
All I do is what he calls "push/draw" why in the world would I want to do a drill to promote it? This isn't for me.
:) Haha all good---not all drills are for everyone! All the best!
Did I miss something?
I hope not :)
Hope you are well!
-Eric
Com on man, less talk
Sorry about that Dale---appreciate the feedback!
-Eric
another drill, another secret, another fix for thw day.. its all so confusing...
Haha I hear ya! Best to find good coach to work with to identify top 1-2 things for YOU
-Eric
Less talk and more, “Get to the Point”!!!!!!
Sorry about that---thanks for the feedback!
