David Frum is an old-style pre-Trump conservative. Even though he and I don't share the same ideological perspective, nevertheless, he's quite right about what an appalling alternative Trump is. The United States, and indeed the world, will guaranteed not be in a better place in four years' time if Trump is allowed back into the White House to wreak havoc again. Kamala is not perfect and will occasionally make mistakes but she's definitely not malignant like her Republican counterpart.

    • @traviscutler9912
      @traviscutler9912 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

Frum contributed to arguably the worst administration in American history, as their lies on the Iraq war contributed directly to the loss of around 10 trillion over the last 25 years & literally hundreds of thousands of lives. Had these Bush W charlatans not been allowed to use a GOP controlled SCOTUS in 2000 to literally steal an election, then competent people would have stopped the 9/11 attacks, therefore all that money wouldn't have been wasted or veterans lives or limbs lost. Then there wouldn't have been any 2008 crash but even if there had been, the American treasury would have been able to bail out not only the banks but also enough to help Americans to keep their homes. Then there wouldn't have been 20 years of wage stagnation that culminated in so much outrage towards the Establishment that the American people elected a deranged game show host to send a gigantic middle finger to the people who 've ruined their lives and their children live's for generations. Also, The bush doctrine of expanding NATO to the Russian border forcing Putin to react as the last two invading forces of Napoleon and Hitler used the exact same route. These people keep saying that putting nuclear weapons on the border where 70 years ago the Russian people lost almost 30 million people isn't a big deal is f****** ridiculous. Now as a result of Frum's & Pals ideological ideas, Americans haven't invested in 20 years of infrastructure, education for its youth or the ability to pay down debt and or invest in its future but instead made a small group of Frum's Friends in the military industrial complex, extremely more wealthy while weakening America against its adversaries at every turn, especially China. Could you imagine had America spent $10 trillion on advancing their capacity to educate and innovate over the last 20 years instead of sending our young men and women to die needlessly in a desert?!?! Frum, if not arrested, should at least be so ashamed to show his face that it would make more sense to smear his face in feces, then to have anything come out of his mouth, other than, "I am so sorry and ashamed of what I have done to America and the world."
Trump clearly sucks, but what Bush's people have done is so vastly worse & are directly responsible for Trump's Presidency, that it shocks me to the core when I hear them spew anything and more importantly, the fact that they are now aligned with the DNC is extremely concerning to say the f****** least.

  • @humanist1981
    @humanist1981 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +29

I am from the US and have watched this transition play out over the last 12 years. There are two processes I think that explain, one more important than the other.
The less important is that the parties have become inverted. Starting with Sarah Palin and Ron Paul, when it became clear that the Democrat coalition would be difficult to defeat in an election, the GOP restyled itself as a counterculture brand. It proved that it would do anything to stay relevant. In fact it never stopped mutating and is unrecognizable. The party of the Republic now advocates for the biggest government footprint of them all - a despot whose ambitions for power are so grandiose as to not fit within any democratic model. (It is just disorienting enough to the voting public to represent a vulnerability to exploited by our near-peers.)
The other and more important is Russia. It is no mystery to even the most casual observer. We have seen injustice and treachery like this prevail, even more extreme, several times in recent history. Each crime scene has the signature markings of violence perpetrated by only one possible actor - the bombing of civilians in Aleppo with chemical weapons, the first overt annexation attempt by a nation in February of 2022 since the signing of the UN Charter, the strangely timed provocation by Iran proxy Hezbollah and Hamas in a region that had been at least dormant if not peaceful for decades. Each case not coincidentally offends the humanist in all of us. It is highly thematic. You must look no further than Russia for an explanation of this demoralizing spectacle in US politics, which is its ultimate prize after losing the Cold War. We should not be surprised to see this contrivance overtake its intended victim. It is happening in broad daylight now. The well-characterized firehose-of-lies playbook (coupled with some old-fashioned propaganda) has been showcased for the world already. It was developed/optimized/deployed against a population of test subjects in Russia 10 years ago before it was exported to the US. Many people think we won the Cold War because of an inward focus on wellness as prescribed by the political scientist George Kennan and directly translated by Lyndon Johnson into Great Society investments which seemed to lay the groundwork for Russia's attenuation and collapse. How unoriginal therefore that our capitulation would result from the collapse of our domestic institutions in this manner.
I suppose I am just speaking out because we will have to look into our children's eyes and ask for forgiveness. They will judge us harshly whether or not our generation gives itself a pass for its frailty or lack of awareness. There can be no diffusion of responsibility. We all have access to the same information. They trusted us with defending the free world.

    • @pjpredhomme7699
      @pjpredhomme7699 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

pretty thoughtful and succinct synopsis. You could not have all of this if Ronny Raygun - had not made it popular for Americans to attack its own institutions. That metastasis eventually had to take hold - within those outsiders as you noted Sarah Palin. Ron Paul was an FSB asset there are a lot of them within the republican party .

Always the president was a person who placed his country above his own desires and needs. This held true for decades until the debacle of Donald Trump. Republicans and Democrats need to unite and vote for a future a future building on a solid democratic country. The choice is clear vote for democracy vote Democrat.

David Frum is literally THE ONLY public figure who has stated bluntly and seriously that cruelty is a part of being human.
    FRUM'S FULL QUOTE BELOW
    - starts at 3:11 -
"I think that some people find it exciting, look, the Colloseum in Rome stood for 500 years...there were 2 shows a week - apparently it was filled all the time...to watch people hacking each other into little pieces, or being devoured by wild beasts or burned at the stake.
There is something in us that enjoys the spectacle of cruelty - that's just part of what it means to be human.
There's another part, we hope, as we become more civilized, the more dominant part rejects cruelty. But cruelty is exciting...and Donald Trump offers a theatre of cruelty and of course it's mesmerizing."
This is the most sensible - instantly recognizable as most likely, or
even true - statement I've heard that actually makes sense of Trump's theatre of "Bread and Circuses" as a main motivation for people to follow him over the edge -----
"Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes" as Sting so eloquently put it in the song Synchronicity II.
    Synchronicity II lyrics:
    Another suburban family morning
    Grandmother screaming at the wall
We have to shout above the din of our Rice Krispies
We can't hear anything at all
Mother chants her litany of boredom and frustration
But we know all her suicides are fake
Daddy only stares into the distance
There's only so much more that he can take
    Many miles away
    Something crawls from the slime
At the bottom of a dark
    Scottish lake
    Another industrial ugly morning
The factory belches filth into the sky
He walks unhindered through the picket lines today
He doesn't think to wonder why
The secretaries pout and preen like cheap tarts in a red light street
But all he ever thinks to do is watch
And every single meeting with his so called superior
Is a humiliating kick in the crotch
    Many miles away
    Something crawls to the surface
    Of a dark Scottish loch
    Another working day has ended
Only the rush hour hell to face
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
    Contestants in a suicidal race
Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance
He knows that something somewhere has to break
He sees the family home now looming in his headlights
The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache
    Many miles away
There's a shadow on the door
Of a cottage on the shore
    Of a dark Scottish lake
    Many miles away
    Many miles away
    Many miles away
    Many miles away
    Many miles away
Song by - Gordon Mathew Sumner
AKA -Sting of the band The Police

"Right now, 2024, the American economy is at its strongest than probably any time since the 60s .. employment is at capacity, inflation has been overcome, wages are rising faster than prices, prices have ceased to rise, in some cases going in to reverse. The biggest problem the country faces is at the border, the flow of immigration, and that is produced by the giant 'we're hiring' sign that is blaring over the United States to the rest of the world. And obviously you have to regulate the flow of people, but the people are coming because they said this is the strongest job market on the planet. So we ought to be able to say yes, immigration is a problem, caused by the incredibly powerful dynamic American economy, which is why you vote for the incumbent, not the challenger"
Excellent example of living in a bubble. But what is his excuse? A man at his level is expected to understand the reality of the situation. Instead he is in a fantasy land.

      The biggest problem is this:
Many, many people, who could not be more different from DonOld Bone Spurs Trump, are blindly following him, because they are even more xstupidx than he is.
How much different his voters are from Trump?
Well, he’s a rich boy from NYC, who is always chauffeured in limousines and wears suits, being clean shaved, while many of his supporters (likely even most of them) are rednecks from rural America, who drive pickup trucks, wear baseball caps and have moustache and/or beards.
He cares about his followers similarly to how we care about the toilet paper in the washroom, after we used it ..., while his followers insist on worshipping him ...
      The question, therefore, is:
Who can open his followers' eyes and change their perceptions, so they are at last able to see the big, xcriminalx, xpussiesx grabber xFascistx xbuffoonx he really is?
      What a xhorriblex, xdisggustingx man.
Instead of retiring and caring for his grandkids, he is trying to ruin the United State's democracy...
