EDIT: Had to cut out some portions of this due to recent updates to Capcom games. Sorry! I received really good advice from Michael Timmerman who advised me about getting gear from Barroch, thank you! Been sitting on this for days now, deciding whether it's good enough to release - I'm not sure I'm satisfied with this video but I hope it makes someone laugh, if it can do that I'm happy. This is why professionals make christmas specials in november. Next christmas special feb 2024 Yes there was an intended fart joke at 19:12 but I've heard TH-cam does not appreciate the Dva fart video so I just cut it out. Merry christmas
It's a little of everything, but especially a lack of knowledge. Most enemies have elemental strengths and weaknesses- plus vulnerable spots and durable spots. Obviously, you want to aim at a dragons heart. The Red Drakes are fire element. Use ice (specifically, Glacis.). Wyverns have no elemental weakness, but have low health and are highly resistant to lightning. I suggest using Bolide, but a climbing Pawn will do. Ice element Wyrms (ground favoring spellcaster dragons) are vulnerable to fire. Also, for bolide- higher charges only increase the number of projectiles. Also, you are only guaranteed to get two hits per target in your range. For this reason, not worth fully charging it if there isn't a lot of enemies around. Ogres are weak to headshots- elders are weak to neck shots, and neither of them like lightning. Things like Torpor also make them a lot easier to deal with- Do not under estimate status effects. I noticed this with your main review too. You used fighter and mystic knight but I don't think I ever saw you use perfect block. You've barely scratched the surface of those vocations.
And to be clear, Elder ogres actually don't have exceptional HP They have exceptional damage resistance. You are doing a fraction of the damage you should be doing because you're hitting him where he is strong, not where he is weak. For spellcasters, it's possible to free aim on mouse and keyboard by hitting shift.
@@AsaelTheBeast Holy smokes the free aim thing, hot damn I never saw that for spellcasting. I want to say thank you as well for all the information you've given me here, some of this stuff I picked up on playing the game, some I've been told about in comments including yours, so thank you! But this highlights a problem I never even considered when reviewing the game. So much of what I've been told is never communicated to the player. Okay fire drake resistant to fire, that's common sense, and the pawns do shout "weak to ice" etc.. But elder ogres are weak to neck shots? I would never have known that without your comment or the wiki. I did experiment with some status effects off camera, and Silentium was really useful You're right about the fighter and mystic knight, I'm gonna be returning to cover the latter sometime. Not gonna lie blocking with the rusted shield just made me want that 2 handed sword as quickly as possible. That is on me. And I want to say thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comprehensive and helpful info for me and other players. I really appreciate you watching my video as well, so double thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I'm glad it was helpful and not obnoxious. A few other things they don't seem to tell you is that you can cast the weapon buff magics on yourself as a mage. (also by hitting shift) Deathly arrow does a lot more damage if you fire right at the moment it hits full charge. (ranger specific.) Two sorcerers casting the same high level spell at the same time will bolster each others cast speed and share cast times. (It can get *really* silly) No point in having more than two though. This game has a higher skill ceiling than what is readily apparently. It's actually what keeps bringing me back to it.
@@AsaelTheBeast No no no, you're fine. In fact I can count on one hand the number of rude comments I've got across all my videos. The Dragon's Dogma community are passionate, helpful, and honestly to watch my video very patient as well rofl! So no, not obnoxious at all. Don't laugh but to self buff as a mage, I went in a corner and let the buff ball home in on myself. Your way seems better. I'll remember the deathly arrows tip for when I hit up ranger, thank you! I did think about doing the sync sorcerer casting but as weird as it sounds I began to enjoy the longer cast times. I think you're absolutely right as well, it's depth is well hidden in systems that seem simple, but there's a lot of complexity going on. Thank you again for coming back! With your permission may I quote you in a future video if that's okay? Especially about the self buffing and ogre weak points.
Sorcerer is the most love/hate experience but it really captures the fantasy of a mage for me. Very slow and vulnerable early on but if you keep at it you eventually become a god of death wiping out waves of enemies. Not my favorite vocation because so much of the playtime is the slow, kind of painful first part but the pay off is so satisfying.
I really felt it as you described! I am in the same boat for sure, it's not the one I've enjoyed the most but I can definitely see the appeal for the curve through pain to power! I wanna say thank you as well for taking the time to watch my video, and for commenting too! Thanks!
The reason that Ogre had so much health is because it's one of the "necrophage" enemies of the game. Kill too many enemies in a run through the isle, and one will spawn. These guys are absolutely scaled for after you already get some good gear and levels from Bitterblack Isle and then upgrading them. You're meant to run away from these guys for awhile.
Ahhh okay, I knew they were spawned in by the slaughter but had not caught on that they were especially designed for running away. It's weird, if they were stationary enemies I would have just assumed to come back later, but them spawning in threw me off completely. Actually I'm now remembering a popup warning me about this and now I feel exceptionally dumb. But as dumb as I feel, I'm also thankful for you coming and watching my video, and leaving a comment that helps me and others get more out of this game. I really appreciate it, thank you!
Dragons dogma is one of my favorite games of all time and I really enjoyed these two videos you made. I’ve played this game so many times. I think I end up going back and beating it once a year. After watching this video, I think it’s time to jump back in For another play through. I really enjoy your content, you have a like and subscribe from me. Thank you for all your hard work and making good entertainment.
@@michaelthompson1793 Holy smokes thank you! I worry so much about doing a game justice, especially when I complain about elements of it. If I can make a video that a fan of the game enjoys, it puts a real smile on my face knowing I didn't do a disservice to them or the game. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch, leave kind words and for subscribing as well. I'm working on (probably) my final DD video as well. Still not done with that game haha! Thank you again, I really appreciate it, and I wish you a happy return to gransys!
Ayy thank you! For taking the time to watch and to comment, and let me also wish ya a very happy new year! I did feel a bit like Storm at the end it's true haha!
Ayy Julius! Thank you for watching this one too! Sorry I am behind in keeping up with comments haha! Aw it looks so good, and I'm glad to see a lot of the classic staples, I just hope there is enough new fresh stuff in there as well!
@@JuliusCaesar103 I hope so! I think that's the best way to look at it and thinking on it, probably what they're doing. It helps build excitement for existing players and new players will know what to expect before seeing anything really groundbreaking. I wanna apologise Julius because I missed this comment, and instead replied to your one on the other video. I got so turned around and I'm worried it looks like I just blindly respond to people who take the time out of their day to leave kind words. This isn't the case. It's just difficult to keep track of where things have been said and I'm very sorry!
I absolutely love how everyone adds Into Free to their videos about this game despite the song not even being in the PC version. I really hope The sequel will embrace the potential of bombastic rock soundtrack.
So there is a story to this. I added that as both an apology and a thank you to everyone who commented on my original DD video telling me there was another main theme for the game, that I'd never hear because they switched it out. I really do love the Dark Arisen theme, but I hate it when any game changes a signature piece of music in an expansion/DLC. The Into Free song needed to stay on the menu and the Arisen theme could have found it's own place. Long winded response sorry! But I hope they do more like Into Free in the sequel as well! And I'll quickly add thank you for watching and for commenting, I really appreciate it so thank you!
I love the quirks in this game. Given that the love interest is whichever character you've talked to the most, for many people that'll just be a vendor. The postgame, with the archdragon? Fantastic. Meta-completion of the ONLINE boss dragon? Great concept.
First of all I want to say thank you for watching and commenting on my dumb videos, I really do appreciate it (even if I say that a lot), thank you! To answer your other comment here, although I do love the Arisen track, I can't believe they just cut out Into Free. Without people telling me I'd never have known it existed. Feels wrong to not be able to switch between the themes. The climbing on enemies is just so well done it's crazy I haven't seen it in more modern games. I did try the online dragon a bit! I dig the contribution idea and getting rewards for taking part, less so the window of opportunity to actually kill it but still a great idea! Oh tell me about it, I cut the affinity segment from my review for time but I had to bend over backwards just to make sure I didn't fall in love with the last person I killed a goblin for. Still as you said lots of issues and quirks, leading to a lovely game.
Man, I'm really glad I've found your channel. It's like a valuable gem that you come across in an otherwise unremarkable corner of a video game dungeon ... yes, Dragon's Dogma makes me think in metaphors :D But seriously, your dry humor is off the charts. You should have a hundred times as many subs - at least!
Holy moly, thank you! For your kind words and for watching as well, I really do appreciate ya taking the time so thank you! I just hope I can keep making videos worth watching - even if that sends me back to the corner of a DD dungeon! And I respect the metaphor haha! I think Dragon's Dogma will make anyone think in metaphor if you play it long enough even if I do love it! :D Thank you again!
Thank you! I did play some of the knight but I didn't get too far into the vocation in gameplay, but the spells do look pretty sweet! I really love the idea of a mage-tank so I will definitely go back and give it a proper look I also wanna just say thank you for commenting and watching, but also for giving me a headsup about this. One of the things I just didn't have the time to do was explore every vocation to the end so this helps me know what I'm missing honestly! So thank you!
@@cephon6198 sorry Cephon your comment wasn't pinged to me in replies, I only just saw it. I'm gonna try magic archer out sometime down the line as well! Anything to get rid of those ogres haha (Thank you as well!)
@@reallylatereviews oh yeah, even with only one or two casts of magick rebalancer, using ricochet hunter in those tight corridors takes care of them super fast. Lightning is their weakness, plus the tight spaces make the bolts bounce many times more
One more thing, never overlook the havoc that can be wrought by gold forged rusted weapons. They are awesome. Maybe even overpowered. The things a gold forged rusted bow can do to most enemies is unbelievable. Always carry one with you, even if you are a mage/sorcerer. You won't regret it.
Happy Holidays back at ya! And thank you honestly, not just for commenting but for watching too! I really worried here I would come off as taking the piss out of sorcerers! So it's reassuring to hear I gave them a fair chance, thank you!
Dude, this video is fucking perfect, the story, the editing, the timing of the music, all perfect. Loved that you enjoyed sorcerer so much, even after sticking through the tough beginning, which just sounds like the game itself. And I absolutely agree on the Warrior, he's my favorite or second favorite after Fighter depending on the day, and ypu put it perfectly, Dragon's Dogma to me too is also about getting intimate with the enemies, and the Warrior does that absolutely incredibly. Here's to hoping he gets 6 skill slots in the sequel. And I'm glad you enjoyed the DLC so much, it is in my opinion, the best DLC ever for a videogame. The first playthrough of Bitterblack Isle is just pure magic, and once you get good gear, it's just so much fun. Great video!
Maaaan thank you! That's so nice to hear so thank you! Aw if they give the warrior more flexibility I would love that, yes please! It really is about getting in there! :D I think Bitterblack Isle is the DLC this game deserved, but the nature of the post-game gransys really makes the grind to get there a challengeless slog, probably my only complaint with the difficulty curve for BBI. I feel I can't progress without leveling, and leveling in BBI is too hard, so I have to kill trivial scrub goblins. But the gear in there is just such a wonderful step up, it's true!
Every time I watch one of your videos, I'm surprised by the subscriber count. You have the quality of a much bigger channel- I hope reality reflects that soon.
I dunno what to say to this except thank you! I honestly like small though. Right now it's getting to be a struggle to reply to everyone and it's harder to remember returning people. I just want a small channel and to make a few people laugh. Thank you for your really kind words, and for watching my dumb videos! I really do appreciate it (even if I say that a lot)
Ayy more DDDA content! Glad you gave the sorcerer a go. I had a similar problem years ago when I switched from Ranger to Magick Archer, I found it woefully underpowered. I tried Magick Archer again recently and am really enjoying it. Although I like the vocation system, that is absolutely one of its flaws. Also you gain stats with the vocation you level with which can also be a problem for min/maxers. Hope you had a good Christmas :)
Ayyy I did thank you! And I hope you had a lovely Christmas too! I've been told Magick Archer is a winner so I too will have to go back and try it out haha! I hear Ranger is the big boss of ranged combat so glad to know magick archer can compete You're right as well it's a mixed bag when it comes to character levelling. I tend to shy away from min/maxing but I must admit the stat allocation interests me a little :D I want to say thank you as well for stopping to comment and for watching my video! I really appreciate it!
WARRIORS! YEEEE! Aw I love it. I've played mages most of my life but something just flicked at one point and I'm all about swords now. I do still enjoy wizard though :P Thank you for coming back to watch and comment on my followup. I hope the BBI video was good if not entirely comprehensive haha! (DANCERcow also I swear I saw another comment left by you but it's gone before I could reply - I might be going crazy and there are multiple seal/sealions on my comments rofl. But I bring it up in case I'm not seeing things and something has happened to your comment. Sorry about this! If not please don't worry and thank you again!)
Yeah I deleted the comment because I was seconds away from it being answered by you in the video near the end. It was about post Daimon BBI and whether or not you knew about it but after a few more seconds of watching after the comment was made, you had brought it up that you'd be getting to the second half of BBI eventually so I deleted the comment because it wasn't necessary! Thank you lol
@@DANCERcow Well now that you mention it haha, I had basically recorded all this as quickly as possible to try and get it out before Christmas so my time was limited despite changing my plans about. And I still wasn't fast enough with editing, however if I ever do anything else DD related (as people have already directed me to the mystic knight) I've at least got the post-Daimon Daimon to tackle and the seneschal. With more time I can do a proper look at both! Thanks for getting back to me because for real I thought I'd fumbled and deleted it haha! That's a relief!
Ya know I just started using ranger and I'm getting into it a bit. I'm enjoying it! Very punchy but I haven't got that far up the skill ladder yet! Thank you as well for watching my video. I'm a bit late responding but I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Thank you!
I don't know how i missed this video but here i am 5 months late. Glad you tried and liked Sorcerer, even if it is a pain to rank this vocation. Really enjoyed this video, it eases the wait for Dragons Dogma 2.
Ne0n! Thanks for coming back! And yeah I'm so happy I was wrong haha! It's a solid vocation with some amazing flair. I think if DD2 comes out and improves upon the original (and fixes some stuff) it will be worth the wait! Fingers crossed haha Thank you as well for your kind words, and for coming back to watch my video! I really appreciate it, thank you!
it should be in the prima guide i swear (Thank you as well for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, I really appreciate it, especially if I learn my vid made someone laugh haha! Thank you!
Haha! AW if there was the emperor's lightning as a spell I wouldn't take it off! I am glad I came back though, having played it, it definitely deserved a second chance! Thanks Looney! :D
Gosh such a good follow up video and I love your style of humor and writing. I was invested in what you had to say and laughing from the dry and witty humor from start to finish. Honestly really glad you decided to do a follow up video, I will say I'm kind of surprised you went into bitterblack Isle at only level 60. I was like no wonder all these bosses felt like hp sponges. In my eyes level 60 is best for starting the everfall and around 90 to 110 for bitterblk. Also like you mentioned with mages they can be very element reliable heavy which can be an annoying trial and error situation unless your pawn or rented pawns inform you of the monster weakness. Also another reason why mage could have been a lot more lacking for you in the power damage department is due to your vocation you've been focusing on. Remember how in the last video I mentioned the who each class gives different stats when leveling up so in a sense you can min max a character? well since you've mostly stuck with fighter warrior classes more of your physicals attack stats are higher then your magic attack states making using mage classes a lot more of a combat challenge compared to if you started out as a mage; so that could have played a part in it too. Also I do wanna mention another thing that while I like but wish they would have put more effort in teaching players is how much dragon's dogma put effort in making status effects and items more useful/ important in combat compared to other RPG's out there. For example plenty of monsters can fall victim to being put to sleep or even just being one shot turned to stone. those big wolfdogs from bitterblk that were in your video are super weak to sleep and when attacking them while asleep similar to monster hunter you do even more damage (4.5X damage from what I've learned) towards them making quick work of them. got a cyclops who's weak to lighting stuns? Hit them with some water flaks or lure them into water to drench them to make lighting and ice attacks do more damage. Shot you can even slice the spell casting dragon making him pretty much useless in attacking you. speaking items like water flasks. So many items in the game are so useful form, combining large nuts with Harspud Sauce to make a team healing health potion. Sick of lantern going out and having to remove it and bring it back out to see again? Use a clean cloth. While all items in this game have their usefulness, there's a few that stand above the rest. These items are the Periapts and are some of the in my opinion best items in the game, change and turning a tough fight into a 1 min smack down. Conqueror's Periapt are any warrior with a sword or bows friend and the Demon's Periapt for any spell casting. Not only do these power up your attack damage but they can be stacked up to 4 times and will stack with any other stat boosting effects you may have on. for example, I've even been able to kill death in less then 1 min thanks to them. remember how I said you can use a clean cloth for getting ride of being drenched use a monks periapts and preventing all debilitations for a set time. Hell you could even farm levels by using a Veteran's Periapt to give you double xp for 5 minutes. but yeah there's a lot of useful items and just taking advantage of status effects that come into so much play in the game I wish they would have taken a bit more time in explaining it to players more. Loved the video and hope some of this info was helpful or at least interesting to know. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your kind words Cyclone and for coming back to watch as well, thank you! And yeah there's a lot I wish I'd known going in haha! I tend to shy away from buff item playstyles, but my recent time with Pathfinder has kind of began to erode that mentality slowly. Although I must admit I don't have the patience to farm curatives and such in DD, I did like the harspud sauce that healed everyone, that's one of the few things I did use haha! The items to mend conditions is another thing I should have focused on but I must admit, I wanted to spend as little time searching through the inventory as possible, I ended up dumping nearly all my curatives and tools in storage with the exception of a few Periapts You're right as well about the stats from leveling, I never imagined it would have such an impact honestly, I assumed the augments would be more important! The status infliction I didn't pay much attention to but I really should have, because even if I'm just swinging a sword my mages could be doing something different! I did start to invest in Silencing and Miasma spells. I agree that they never really go into detail what those effects do or how to inflict them, and the ability descriptions range from straightforward to vague, so it's hard to tell what you're doing. Sleeper Arrows, I probably should have thrown some into a pawn's inventory! I love how drenched targets are weaker to lightning and ice though, that's fantastic. I didn't notice as a melee, but something to remember nonetheless! Lastly, I genuinely thought I could take BBI at level 55 haha! I didn't reach 60 until a bit later, and then 70 (I think?) It was definitely fun but had stressful parts, I feel like a higher level would have made it more fun but getting to that higher level was not something I was prepared to do in that time :D Thank you again, I always worry if I'm doing a game justice. And if I can make someone smile that's even better for me, so thank you!
And you spent all your sorcerer experience without casting HUGE, FLAMING ROCKS FROM THE HEAVENS (that somehow pierce through obstacles and crash underground wherever you are)? 😢 No Bolide makes me sad. But I'm glad you did enjoy Sorcerer. It's my favorite class, as I'm a Gandalf at heart. Good video.
Abeldiaz! Thanks for coming back to watch my follow up and I know rofl! I genuinely just overlooked it completely. I make sure to demonstrate the full casting animation and meteor shower in my next vid, and I have a pawn using it regularly so it gets shown off! It's amazing so I get the sadness. I respect all Gandalfs. Thank you! For comin back, for your nice comment and for watching, I really do appreciate it. So thank you!
Maaaaaan I never ignore good advice! I only went and checked it out again thanks to comments like yours! Thank you for coming to check out my other video at all holy smokes! Just hope I did sorcerer justice :D
Ayy thank you for watching honestly, and for stopping to leave a comment! Thank you! And me too! Really looking forward to it, hopefully they change a few things but leave enough of it the same haha!
Hurray for more Dragon's Dogma ! Thank you for this new video, looking forward to watching your future productions. Not sure if I mentioned that in a previous comment: boomer me can't read your notes on screen fast enough, which forces me to rewind often. This is not so much an issue if one watches your content on PC or mobile, but I appreciate your content on TV and the embedded TH-cam app makes it painful :(
I will leave them up a bit longer! I had not even considered TV viewing so I apologise for that. There may still be some quicker ones if they're short, but I'll be sure to give ample time for either reading or pausing. I've started to use them less and less as well which I'm preferring honestly. Thank you as well French Frog for coming back to watch and comment on all my videos and my posts too, I really do appreciate it. Thank you so much!
About the "minotaur". That's actually just a huge zombie with a cosplay hobby... I fell for that one too. Also sad that you didn't enjoy the elder ogre. That's one of my favorite enemies, since I'm a mystic knight and love blocking stuff.
Boneman! Thanks for coming back to watch the followup! I've just seen the calcium enjoyer part of your name ffs rofl I like the twist on the minotaur now that I know about it, it is still weird though. See I'm editing the mystic knight video, and I have to admit the elder ogre was easier to deal with as a knight. But I still just lured them off a bridge because that's what makes me laugh. I do love ogres, but it took a while to get used to BBI's haphazard difficulty vs the main quest. The blocking is 100% though. I could just do that with frost riposte all day. Thanks again for taking the time to come back and watch, and leave a comment too! I really appreciate it!
@@reallylatereviews ah thanks for the reply. Always nice to talk to someone friendly. Luring ogres off cliffs is also very fun, I just love it when the raging beast catapults itself to its demise. Have a good Sunday mate.

Finally giving the sorcerer some love. Not a single High Bolide in the video tho. Meteor is the quintessential spell of any mage, and just so damn satisfying.
I know I really dropped the ball there haha! My excuse is I just thought it was a higher tier version of the firebolty spell. Talk about a misunderstanding. I'm recording a new DD video and at the very least, a pawn blows me up with it so it will get shown. Thank you! For stopping to watch and comment. I do really appreciate, thank you!
the best feature of the ingle spell is that you can literally snipe with it by pressing the alternate aim button, on console is the camera stick, you just press it and depending on the spell will either reset the position of the sigil or toggle manual aiming, and its awesome
See this is useful because I didn't learn this until someone else told me. So what you don't see in this video is every time I buff myself, I run into a corner so I can't see anyone else, cast buff, and let the ball float onto my character. I don't cut embarassing footage out of my videos but I just couldn't bring myself to show that rofl Thank you for telling me this though because I wasn't aware that you could reset the sigil position after so easily! And thank you also for watching, I appreciate it!

Aw I learnt, everyone from the DD playerbase has been so wonderful and sent so many tips for me and other players. I didn't utilise it because mostly I wanted to experience how it was for players without that knowledge (also i'm dumb) But I did get something similar going with my pawns in what I'm recording now (I think) Thank you! @@Screwypone Rofl that sounds so busted. I swear there's always something with this game that just makes me smile haha! Thank you! I'm grateful for every secret strategy!
Love this game but i dreaded the way leveling up works in it. Basically if you want to have a proper min/maxed build you have to commit to a certain vocation: Assassin for strength, Sorcerer for magic and ONLY level up as these vocations. Imagine how fun it is to level 200 levels as a sorcerer just to have a good magic archer build. I couldn't be bothered so i modded the magic archer vocation to have the same magic growth as a sorcerer. Bitterblack Isle was a breeze after that thanks to Ricochet Hunter. Love the video and merry (late) Christmas!
Yeah that’s definitely a fair critique, I feel like each class should just have their own stats built into them depending on the players level. But that being said, it does allow for building your class uniquely if you wanted more hp growth than attack for example. Im not quite sure how they could combine both ways somehow but it would be nice if they could fix that problem for DD2
You both hit the nail on the head if you ask me. The system has potential but ultimately leads to either metagrinding or modding. But it does allow such build customisation and really is something that could be fixed for DD2. The laziest but best way is usually just a simple stat respeccing system. I know it can take away from the shelf life of a game but it works out of the box. Thank you both as well for these insights, I really enjoy reading stuff like this. And thanks for watching as well, a happy (late) holidays back to you both!
Ayy I have but not for this video! I honestly missed it completely. I am editing a mystic knight video where I do show it off a bit though mostly through my pawns. It's nuts I love it haha Thank you as well for watching my video! And for taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it and yeah good shoutout because that meteor spell would have been perfect in here.
Maaaaaan I dunno what to even say to that, except thank you! I don't really want to get big time, I'm happy as it is right now honestly. I can reply to as many people as I can and it's not too hard to remember returning people. So this is a good place to be! But I will say thank you for leaving kind words, and for watching my dumb videos, thank you!
So, a few point regarding Bitterblack Isle. You already mentioned how you were under leveled for it and that's precisely why encounter like the 3 Garm were so tough. You see, on the isle, whenever you kill some creature, they leave a pile of flesh on the ground. Kill enough creature and a corpse eating creature may appear. These creature are even tougher than reguler Bitterblack ennemies so it's better to run whenever they appear. Secondly, you can "save scum" to get better gear you want from cursed item. Basically, the reward from purifying items is seeded, which mean you'll always get the same thing, but you'll get different reward if you purify it as a Ranger instead of a Warrior for example. So what you can do is save, purify the item to see what they'll give, and if the result doesn't satisfy you, use the godsbane to kill yourself, reload and purify as another class.
Ooh I did not know about the seeded rewards haha, that sounds like a great way to sift through the system to get the items you want though thanks! The corpse eating creature mechanic I did know about and I'm kicking myself for not bringing it up haha, the game even popped up and told me! But I did not know they were balanced around fleeing at that point in the game, I really should have read that and took notice, I might have complained less haha. Thank you for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it, DD is a game where there really is always more to learn. And thank you for watching as well!
Thank you holy smokes! I appreciate you coming to watch and comment, really means a lot to me! I'm already being recommended the mystic knight so next Christmas special sorted also rofl!
As a magic enjoyer I liked sorcerer but fell in love with magic archer, it is not as awesome as calling meteors but it is more agile and better suited for any battle.
Having just tried magic archer I can understand that! The biggest hurdle with sorcerer was getting interrupted and if that happened it was another long cast ahead of me. If I get interrupted with magic archer it takes a few seconds to get back to where I was. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and for watching my video! I appreciate it and respect all magic-enjoyers! Thank you!
Loved your DD video and it convinced me to give the game another try! One aspect of DD I dislike so much and a deal breaker was the inventory management, but on PC with mods it looks like there are ways to make it less bad. Giving myself infinite carry weight will break the difficulty so I'll avoid going this far haha
Ayy glad you liked it and that you gave the game a chance! The inventory management eventually feels like a timesink it's true. If the encumbrance was spread across the entire party it would be an improvement. I think it's there to prevent you stocking up on health potions but I can't be arsed to farm them anyway so I let my pawns heal the party up haha. From my tweaking with the weight modifier all I noticed was you can run more reliably. I still got exhausted casting spells and using weapon skills but getting around was much nicer. And I wanna say as well, thank you for watching my videos and commenting, I really do appreciate it because it lets me know they're helpful or at least entertaining haha :D
You can actually use L3 or whatever that command is mapped to on your keyboard to enter free aiming for auto targeting spells and to target yourself with elemental buffs. I still enjoyed magic without knowing that, but it's a huge tip that I wish I had known during my first run. Also don't sleep on the earlier Sorcerer skills. Miasma inflicts poison, which is decent for enemies that resist damage, and it's very fast to cast. Lassitude inflicts Torpor, which dramatically decreases the speed of enemies giving you much better openings to cast your big spells. You can experiment with the mix of high and low level spells to really change how the class plays. You should also try Holy Focused Bolts if you haven't. Focused Bolt is an upgrade to your light attack where you hold the button and it charges up multiple little magic bolts. With the Holy enchantment, it does a lot of damage, has high stagger/knockback, and heals you a bit. You can even charge it while running, and fire it while jumping.
This is all such helpful information so I'm going to say thankyou and heart to help others see this! But also yeah having to hide on my own in a corner to buff myself because I didn't know the self buff button was something I was too embarrassed to show in this video rofl. I honestly can't remember if I tried Focused Bolt or not but I will be revisiting DD in the future so I will (hopefully) remember to try it! I also have to admit I am such a basic wizard, I like my fireballs and big damage spells. I really should have made more use of the debuffing spells to weaken enemies, especially torpor which I've heard is amazing. That is on me hehe, but I just like my explosions. Lastly I want to say thank you for taking the time out of your day to leave such helpful advice, and for watching my video. I really appreciate it, so thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I’m always happy to share. My experience of the community has overwhelmingly been that most people are willing to do whatever to help people get into the game. Whether it’s through tips, gifting items, Or renting pawns. We’ve pretty much all been there. Someone else may have mentioned it, but a good thing to pick up for caster’s is the Wyrmking’s Ring. Give the duke a forgery, and keep it because it offers a 10% casting time reduction. And it stacks with the Augment that does the same thing for a total reduction of 19%. Also there is an option to change the explanation of skills in the menu. I believe the button is the same one as your light attack. For weapon skills it basically just tells you how to use weapon skills, but for Core Skills it will basically tell you which buttons to press.
yeh i knew that. i definitely didn't struggle for hours with the auto aim. i totally didn't self buff my character by standing in a corner and letting the buff ball hit me. these things didn't happen (Thank you!)
As a warrior main, I highly highly recommend ranger! It's basically the warrior equivalent to strider and damn is it good. Like seriously this game has some of the best bow and arrow gameplay I've ever seen in an RPG outside of monster Hunter! But they are basically like siblings so it doesn't count! Ranger is beefy long range with great weighty animations. Anyways thanks for the content and keep it up, *Rockstar!*
AYYY you're a rockstar! Thank you! And I really should go back and give those advanced vocations a proper look. I enjoyed strider so much I genuinely got hooked on that, but I never gave Ranger a real chance so I will revisit it I have no doubt. I think I was put off as well by some ranger pawns who just, well Legolas they weren't lets say that haha. But the way you phrased it has really made me curious about that so I'll definitely try Ranger!
Ranger with the rangers ring(cursed gear lvl3 I think) has reaper's arrow which is basically just warrior's arc of obliteration (cursed gear lvl3 I think too) but it's long range and is a timing minigame. It's beefy and with the right amount of strength can take 4 bars off a dragon maybe more.
4 bars holy smokes, okay yeah I'll give that a shot rofl. I'd heard that the ranged vocations are absolutely gold for BBI and now I understand why. Arc is great but you really feel vulnerable with it, so I can see the appeal of a ranged version
Really liked that you came back to the sorcerer, but I have to say for late game and especially BBI the 2 classes that work best in my opinion are the mystic knight and magick archer. They have devastating attacks especially in tight corridors and their skill sets make them effective against nearly every enemy in the game.
Aw I tell ya I've paused working on the mystic knight video because I'm just not doing it justice. I want to give it it's time in the spotlight but I'm not loving it as much as I thought I would. I plan to switch to magick archer after I've given knight a good try because it looks fantastic. I'm also a bit let down by new game+ complete lack of challenge haha! So I will take your advice and make good use of them in BBI! Thank you! For coming back to check out my other video! And for stopping to comment, I really do appreciate it!
@@reallylatereviews This may be presumptuous of me, so if I'm not telling you anything new pls just ignore this. I normally build my mystic knight around the skills "magick cannon/great cannon" and "holy enchanter/blessed trance". When you use the magick cannon/great cannon skill you conjure a temporary floating ball wich shoots out homing missiles against nearby enemies when you or anyone else hit the ball with a weapon, the homing missiles will have the same elemental properties that you have on your weapon and shield, if you have enough time for it you can even conjure multiple magick cannon/great cannon so you can build yourself a temporary magical shotgun. The holy enchantment is just because most strong monsters are at least a bit vulnerable against the holy element.
@@Rakkhot This is really useful because I didn't even know you could summon more than one orb! I'm gonna go back and make sure I add that in (and if it's okay I'll quote you in the video for helping me out!) I will switch to holy enchants because the party wide buff is so nice. But I'll probably leave the shield counter as ice, I like the freezing effect haha! And there's no need to worry about presumption here, I always enjoy reading everyone's comments and the experiences/input they share! So thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I wish you good luck and a great time :D Should you have trouble with the magick archer I have some tips there too, but I don't want to take away your chance to discover it for yourself.
Leveling vocation is all about quantity over quality, tbh I find it easiest to run around killing random groups of cannon fodder enemies with a pilgrim charm active.
I've heard about this being the case and is probably why the guard farm works so well. I think my brain just assumed big Exp gain would do both vocation ranks and character levels. But the pilgrim charm would have helped a great deal no doubt haha, I am very tight about using consumables so I probably have a dozen sitting in storage somewhere. I want to thank you as well for stopping by to watch and leave a comment, I really do appreciate it so thank you!
@@reallylatereviews yeah I get that, my first playthrough I was super stingy w consumables til I figured out in my 2nd playthrough that you can just buy unlimited amounts of them via Fournival. And making money is easy if you just keep reentering the Rotunda of Dread in BBI and grind xp and boss monster parts to sell. No problem! The vid was enjoyable!
@@GeoffPlays This is why I love Fournival haha, I don't care if he does make people homeless he has the best stuff. I really should sell those monster bits, I did Rotunda so many times and I just bang it all in the bank. And ayyy! Thank you!
@@reallylatereviews man could commit warcrimes and I would exonerate him just to buy his stuff lol. Yeah tbh most of the time its best just to sell em. I will look up what the level 3 upgrade materials are for stuff I have and save those, but otherwise I just sell all my stuff
@@GeoffPlays rofl ffs. And that's a good idea honestly. I am a packrat and the encumbrance really got to me in DD so I just got into the habit of stashing materials, rather than sift through them all. Although it's handy when I find some gear and happen to have upgrade materials on me anyway, so for making the videos it helped. For actual gameplay it probably made life harder than it needed to be haha
I want to try a mage alchemist. Chuck magick orbs n read tome spells, carry the red blue green concoctions for in field buff potion crafting. Wonder if it's viable. 🤔
I'm in the process of reviewing Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and it's the first real RPG I've played that allows an alchemist character that isn't just "reskinned wizard." You actually throw potions, can ingest mutagenic tonics, all sorts of stuff, and multiclass into magic if you so desire! It isn't Dragons Dogma but I bring it up because I love the alchemist archetype! I think it'd be really neat to pull it off in DD as well, but I think for that you deserve to be able to carry more, I imagine that would weigh you down something awful with the encumbrance system. Thank you as well for stopping to watch my video, and for commenting as well!
Me too! I think if they get rid of some of the problems, they've got a really solid foundation for a sequel. It wouldn't take much to make a great follow up! Thanks as well for stopping to leave a comment and watching my video. I appreciate it!
Ayy I didn't in this video but I've got one coming up where I show the spell. I totally missed it because I was focusing so much on that tornado haha. I can see why it's your favourite it's fantastic, even the casting animation is superb Thank you! For taking the time to watch my video, and leaving a comment. I appreciate it!
for the Ogre its not much health its just skill and knowledge issue you have, you already know that enemies have weakneses so the ogre too and start trying out other spells as well who it seems that they doesnt do much dmg but trust them they pretty helpful...a little hint: Clouds and time is all you need
First of all I wanna say thank you for watching my video and leaving a comment! I appreciate it! And yeah I didn't realise just how strong these weakpoints/resistances were as it's never conveyed within the game in a satisfactory manner. I've received so much help from DD players however. I've got far better at dealing with them since this but phase 2 of BBI is still beyond my character haha!
I'm a little late to the party, but I enjoyed your honest reviews about one of my all time favorite games. I've been with DD since the beginning. I really like the strider/ranger classes and don't personally like being a magic user but either my pawn is or I have a separate account where I have trained another pawn. One thing you didn't talk about but is very important is pawn inclinations. They actually have 3, but one is invisible. You'll know what it is if their inclinations change and it will show up. Always check your pawn's inclinations. That's what the learning chair is all about. There are potions you can buy that will change their inclinations back to what you want them to be. Your pawn will start copying other pawns or other people who hire them. So their inclinations will change over time. Some of them are dead awful and you want to change them ASAP. Read up on them. It makes a huge difference with the way they act. Also, I don't know if you know this, but if you or your pawn is one of the magic classes then you will definitely benefit by having the wyrmking's ring in your inventory. It cuts the casting time down quite a bit. What you do is take the ring to the Black Cat, and have him make a forgery for you. Return the fake ring to the Duke and keep the real one for yourself. Even if you or your pawn are not a magic users, one of the pawns you hire will probably be. So have them keep it in their inventory. Again, thank you for your amusing take on an old game.
Please forgive me but I had no idea Pawn Inclinations were even a thing, I knew there were traits that went in one direction or another but this thing about potions and other pawns affecting them is all new to me. Thank you! I've learned more from people leaving helpful comments (like you!) than I did playing the game As for the Wyrmking's Ring, I just totally missed the forgery play behind that, imma get on that for my next game though :P It sounds incredibly useful and I imagine my pawn will be a big fan. To answer your other comment, I spent so long hoping a rusted greatsword would drop and I genuinely can't remember if I ever found one, I want to say they do torpor/poison? Something like that when upgraded but yeah I really should have given them more of a chance - although having my shield block fail for the 100th time did encourage me to just put them in a box and never look back haha! I want to say thank you as well, I'm really grateful for your kind words, your helpful advice and of course for watching my video. I really appreciate it, thank you! I am a big fan of strider too! I also hope I didn't do the game any injustice in my review, I really do love it even if it makes me pull my hair out.
@@reallylatereviews Hi again. I didn't realize you didn't know about inclinations. There are nine of them, actually, with acquisitor being the worst, imo. With that inclination, especially if it's first, will cause a pawn to ignore everything to search for items. I'm not kidding. There's nexus, which causes the pawn to prioritize helping other pawns over you. Pioneer will cause them to leave the party behind and scout ahead, even if that's not what you want. There are some that are situational. For instance, guardian protects the player over anything, which can be useful for some builds but terrible if you play a ranger who never gets in the thick of things, medicant is good for healers but awful for anything else. Scathers will attack the strongest first, mitigators will attack the weakest first, and I can't remember the rest. I do know that at the height of DDDA's popularity, seasoned players, like myself, would check hired pawns inclinations before hiring them. The potions, nine in all, can be bought from a pawn, at the fort near your hometown. The first place you go after getting attacked by the dragon. I believe his name is Jonathon and it cost rift crystals to buy the potions, not money. Also, you drink the potions, not your pawn and you may have to buy more than one to fix your pawn back to how you like it. Just so you know. Good luck with your next playthrough. 🙂 PS You may already know this, but leveling is different depending on whether you want to level your level or level your class. To level up, fight big monsters like the Ur-dragon. But to level up classes, stay away from the big guys and fight goblins, bandits, wolves or the soldiers in the Duke's employ after you kill the dragon. For some reason fighting the big guys raises your class levels very slowly. It's a weird game mechanic.
@@reallylatereviews Ok, last time, I swear. If you like playing as a strider, do not use the augment that lets you climb monsters faster. The strider's climb rate is faster than the augment and if you use it on a strider build you will actually be slowing yourself or your pawn's climbing speed. That's something not many people know. But now you do. 🙃
@@carolthe13th60 I knew about these customisations but honestly had no idea about their names or could be adjusted with potions. That's nuts that other things can influence your pawn, not just yourself at the chair. It sort of makes me wonder why have the system at all if it's being constantly changed by outside influences haha. I don't mean to knock DD it's just so many of the interesting ideas boil down to contrivances. I do like the mitigators though (now I know their name :P ) because usually it's the stray runners that mess up my party in fights I honestly assumed big monsters would equate to faster leveling and vocation leveling, so I do appreciate the advice haha, and it explains why a few minutes afk in Gran Soren made more progress than me farming drakes. The strider being negatively affected by the ring that speeds up everyone else is perfect rofl, thats PEAK dragons dogma. And on the "last time I swear" please do not ever worry about this sort of thing. If someone has taken the time to write out their thoughts, I always read them. Sometimes TH-cam does a spectacularly bad job of letting me see them, either notifications fail or it just straight up makes me have to visit the video and scroll through them myself. But I always try to reply. And I am grateful for every comment, and yours will definitely help myself and new players. So thank you!
So the reason he had issues with the mage/sorcerer is because he didn’t start the game with the mage. If you start the game as a mage rather than warrior you will level up and power up your vocation properly and not have these issues. ;) Sorcerers are a blast and I love them, the Maelstrom and Tornado is my fav!
Yeaaa I had no idea this was even a system until people told me haha! The game leaves so much to just uncover, it's a strength but sometimes frustrating. I have come to love sorcerer too though, even with my dodgy char stats. Oh the maelstrom is insane, it's just so visually striking in every sense, and you really feel like a powerful sorcerer. Fantastic! I wanna say thank you as well for watching my videos and taking the time to leave comments, I really appreciate it! Thank you!
Holy moly that's, oh that sounds so nice. I want that haha! What sort of level is that? I've been told about Periapt stacking but I always feel cheaty using consumables, I know I shouldn't especially with BBI's curve. (I wanna add as well, thank you for taking the time to comment and for watching my video as well! Thank you!)
@@reallylatereviews i'm at lv 200 (displayed as infinity in game), but the thing you should care is not about character's lv, it's about your magic attack power, in my case I have about 2850 magic attack but that is not necessary at all, you can deal with him fine if you have about 1500-2000 magic attack because in this game, the Sorcerer's learning curve is quite high. Beside learning about enemies' elemental weakness, you have to know their debilitation weakness as well (debuff weakness for gaming term) and monster behaviour plays a large role too. In this case, Elder Ogre's weak to Dark and Thunder, Debilitation weakness is Torpor (Sorcerer have a spell for this), Sleep (only Mystick Knight can use, but you can use items), Curse (take 40% more dmg) and if you observe her long enough, you will notice if she does a charge attack and miss, she will stuck in a stance which she has to keep her balance on one foot, this is the moment you climb onto her body and she will fall, in case you didn't know, enemies in this game will take increase dmg when they're knock downed and this is where you try to deal as much dmg as possible. Necromancy and Miasma both deal Dark magic dmg so this will be good for her ( don't forget Maelstrom too), so my chain of action while dealing with her us: Torpor her so she's stuck in slow motion, charge up Necromancy to stagger her, stack up Miasma on her and if she is knock downed, cast Maelstrom on her, done. If your magic attack is too low, you can try to curse him by throwing skulls at him and then put him to sleep by using Jewel of Sleep (sleep will make the next dmg they take x2.5). More advanced tips: if your pawn has the same high spell as you (like Gicel, Bolide, Maelstrom, Seism, Fulmination), when you cast that spell, they will try to mirror it. Moreover, if you or your pawns get interrupted mid cast but there's a party member who can still maintain the casting, if the rest of the party cast that spell again they will continue that spell at the progress that party member is casting (this called Spell Sync, wiki for more information). Sorcerer in this game does take the "knowledge is power" To the whole new level
@@anhdangviet2668 That's a lot of helpful information holy smokes, thank you! There's some here I've heard from comments and an awful lot I didn't know at all. I hadn't even thought of the magic attack value. The reason I didn't employ the spell sync was largely because I liked bringing pawns with other element spells to, well to be honest, offset the need to go back to HQ to swap spells out often. But the ability for them to resume casting was totally unknown to me that is fantastic. I'm playing a bit of mystic knight now but I completely missed the sleep spell, I'll have to go back and look for it! I never in a million years would have thought the elder ogre was weak to dark damage, they look so horrible and evil, and live in sewers ya know? Sort of give off a dark vibe. Also I have to add level 200, I have big respect for you reaching that nicely done!
@@reallylatereviews I have a feeling that you will not read my comment because how long and nerddy it is but you did, so thank you. There is more advanced tricks for Sorcerer but i'll leave it to you to explore. One thing i love about this game is that it doesn't hand-hold you at all, you should be able to try it and figure it out ourself ( but due to some translation errors or straight up bugs, you still have to look at the wiki though). Anyway feel free to ask me about this class, because it's my joy to see others learning about Sorcerer and how to utilize this class, sadly most people usually rely on cheesing (Holy Focused Bolt) without actually learning how the spells work. Once you know how certain spells work, you can combine them to make time for your big spells and of course you know when you pull off the big spells, the fight's usually over. I'm quite sure you've already bought all Mage Augments and Sorcerer Augments so your Magick attack should be ok now (but in case you haven't known, Mage has one Augment increasing your magic by 10%, Sorcerer has one for 20% and they scale off of your base magic attack plus weapon), Sorcerer has an Augment for reducing Stamina for spell skills and an Augment to reduce casting time. Still you can reduce your casting time further by having Wyrmking's Ring in your inventory (if you haven't heard about this ring, i will not say anything because it's spoiler). Mystick Knight is very fun too, but i'll always go back to Sorcerer
I read absolutely every comment and I try to answer everyone, it's part of the reason I do these videos haha! Thank you for taking the time to write them is all I can say. The augments aw, I did switch a few up but the truth is my playstyle is always to wade in, so I ended up popping back in the health augments. Even as a sorcerer I can't stay away from getting hit haha. But now that you've said it, the sorcerer augment stacking sounds like it would have been very useful. Aw I've been informed about the ring don't worry, I've forged it, it's in my pawn's bags right now rofl! Thank you. I'm sort of underwhelmed by Mystic Knight a bit but I think my expectations were that I'd have a taunt, and I feel with all the fun blocking spells a taunt was essential. I like some of the spells however.
Miasma cage fury staff = op Also never underestimate rusty weapons fully upgraded they are debuff kings im working on a bloody knuckle build right now with a support pawn leveld as fighter till max level
The rusty weapons do sound great when maxed out but I spent so long waiting for a rusty greatsword, it never came until I was done maaaaaan :( And this is so wonderful that builds are still being made after all this time. Not only does it prove DD stands the test of time but Bloody Knuckle sounds fuckin great I wanna quickly add thank you! For watching and commenting on my video, I appreciate it!
@@zimattack9994 Thank you for this because it is helpfu., I did check while filming this but I wasn't very thorough. I saw that he sold them and so ran off in game, only to find no Greatsword. What I failed to read was that he only starts selling that in Stage 4. This game has so much going I swear rofl But thank you for real, just knowing where to get them without RNG is very helpful!
Dude you've got me 100% here and I'm happy to admit I got it wrong. But I'm gonna add that this guy is dressed up as a minotaur plus the first pawn chatter I saw said "A guardian of this labyrinth." Labyrinths, famous home of minotaurs. So this eliminator at least I am naming an honorary minotaur. I wanna say thank you as well for watching my video and for commenting, I really appreciate it! the early levels arent as bad if you do them during the story progression, and this game is designed to be replayed so yeet. I actually played through the main story 3 times before I went to bbi
Thank you for coming back to watch and comment on my other vid as well, I really appreciate it, thank you! I'm gonna respond to your other comment here too. About the quest locking, I like the replayability it encourages. I actually enjoy stuff like this myself (currently replaying pathfinder to see alt story) but what I really didn't like was how little DD communicates to the player what constitutes a quest 'phase.' For me there really needed to be a hard line saying "Stop, doing this will cancel these quests." It's a videogamey bar to be sure, but so is having these cancellations trigger from just leaving a building. I also really felt that quest dip in the second half I completely agree. I feel like they could have saved so many of the clutter quests for when they roll out the new encounters! Yeah when I made this I was under the mistaken impression new game+ wiped my vocations thanks to reading a mainstream gaming website. I probably would have leveled the vocations while playing the main quest had I known this, that's on me! Still 3 playthroughs before BBI that's some serious dedication, big respect! Sorry for long comment just wanted to reply properly and say thank you once again!
@@reallylatereviews yeah I totally agree, it isnt communicated well enough. and I actually thought starting a new game would reset the vocations, or at least your level or equipment too, but yeet. lot of good systems but could use some good polish and qol stuff. maybe DD2 will solve these problems, we'll see once capcom tells us more about it 😅
@@soloshottie Aw I hope so haha! Despite all my whining I really did enjoy DD, so I hope the sequel gets that balance of keeping what makes it great but tightens things up a little! True Capcom really keeping things quiet, fingers crossed though :D
I shouldn't say anything because I usually love mages. But when I played the base mage class I caught dumbledore doing copium in the halls you didn't hear it from me (Real talk, sorcerer is great though :P Thank you for taking the time to watch my dumb video and for commenting, thank you!)
Great follow-up video! I'm so happy to see it now that it's out and I'm glad you tried out the magic system. I absolutely agree with everything you've said about the vocation leveling system after switching classes. Ranking up a class you haven't already played is a bit rough, even if you have strong gear. There is some fun to that feeling of going through the period of weakness all over again as you progress again in a different vocation, but not for everyone. They made all of these incredibly fun classes with diverse and badass abilities, but no decent way to try out new ones without feeling like you gotta grind it. I know grinding is prevalent in many RPGs, but despite the fun combat, grinding is still grinding and it gets old. Maybe some kind of training practice using the training area in the Encampment would work? I'm not sure. Your other issue of casting big spells but dealing no damage though? This is one of the bigger but hidden issues with the designs of this game. The gameplay is so incredibly action and skill based, but the math behind it means that sometimes you simply do not have the stats to actually deal any damage to the enemy, even if you dodge all the attacks and hammer home all the openings and weak points. Bitterblack Isle has the biggest examples of this, probably because it is meant to be real endgame content rather than just an extra area, but it still hurts. The carrion enemies such as the Garm and the Elder Ogres are ridiculous balls of stats that ruin the flow of how cool the gameplay feels despite how early into Bitterblack they show up. To some extent, I would say that they are meant to be enemies to run from until you get more power from the equipment there, but still. Regardless, I'm glad to see this video and I love the Christmas theme, great stuff once again.
Thank you so much and thank you for letting me quote you! I can't believe I said Blake Stone instead of Slone I felt so dumb but I couldn't re-record the line as I've been hit with a groggy voice! I am so sorry I was worried I was just criticising the game without cause here, so it's good to hear it's not just me! I thought that New Game+ would be the chance to try out new vocations, but you also lose all your current vocations that way, so yeah a bit grindy! I think you're absolutely right about the enemies in Bitterblack, and I think my biggest problem with that is it circles back to the first problem. It comes down to outleveling to overcome them, which is just more grinding. Considering everything changes after killing Daimon that would have been the perfect time to introduce them haha. I did end up just running away a lot, I think it's very difficult to do endgame content for what is a contained singleplayer game, it isn't bad by any stretch but I like the way you described it, as having hidden issues. Things that become more apparent the longer you play. I'm more likely to play through the game again rather than farm BBI is the impression I am ultimately left with Thank you as well for coming back to comment and watch my videos, I really do appreciate it (I say that a lot but it's true) and it's always nice to see familiar faces! So thank you!
Laughing at the complaints about getting drenched. There's a reason I spend my first moonbeam gem on the door to the ring of desiccation never have to worry about getting drenched again. And as a fellow warrior lover ghosts and living armors are the bane of my exsistance even with an enchanted and perma enchanted weapon it's does the most pitiful damage to those fucks
i just cried reading this. I've been filming for a mystic knight video, and i used a moonbeam gem on the wrong door and got a shitty bow. (ah it's probably okay) i can't believe i want to go back and find a new moonbeam gem. Ayyy warriors lets go! But yeah the ghosts are an experience, I feel like I just go afk for those fights. With an enchantment we should at least be able to graze ghosts. I genuinely am not at the level/skill where I can do post-daimon BBI so I've yet to see the non-boss variety of living armor but maaan even if they are the bane of swordbois I do love them rofl, can't wait to see them again. I want to say thanks as well for watching my video and leaving a helpful comment, it's great for me and other players so thank you! I really appreciate it!
@@reallylatereviews yeah the living armor boss fight is fun to fight individually, up until they become common mob enemies and they throw them at you 3 in a group lol. Not if you learned the difference yet but restarting a check point and restarting to save are different. When spending a moonbeam gem I'm pretty sure it makes an auto save so if you die or reload the checkpoint it will load the the last time you entered the rift or slept in a bed if you choose the wrong door. There's also several moonbeam gems hidden throughout bbi so it's definitely worth looking at a guide to find them just go get the right reward.

@@reallylatereviews love to help dd has a lot of quirks to it's gameplay other games don't have and players don't know about. Like the damage and armor system is flat not percentage based which is why it's so hard to damage higher level enemies because it subtracts your attack from their defense and you can end up doing only like 1 damage and why it's so important to upgrade your and your pawns gear. And post Damon bbi is actually really hard even for me with experience I usually don't run through it until like over level 115. There's also the clothing system that never gets explained you just have to notice some stuff in your equip menu are clothes and fit under your armor so you can wear 2 legs slots and 2 chest slots together. Another warrior funfact the game doesn't tell you is the Iraklis from the black cat has it has reduced damage for normal attacks with a 1 in 4 chance of criting for extra damage. has a raised chance something like a 90% chance on skills like the arc of deliverance/obliteration to do something close to 9x damage as per exnilios testing.
@@invictus_1245 Oh that last bit about the sword is so esoteric rofl, how would anyone even notice that reliably without testing. I love stuff like that, I guess I love all the secret and obscure parts of DD like you've mentioned. It's when the core systems aren't really explained like the attack and defense numbers - I don't need to see those numbers but I'd like to have some idea of what they mean in relation to my equipment. Otherwise why have damage numbers on weapons at all. And that's understandable as well, phase 2 BBI feels like just an utter nightmare rofl
I've played a bit of it but I missed the artillery stuff so I've heard! Next time haha! Thank you as well for watching my dumb video and for commenting!
@@reallylatereviews np, very much enjoyed the video :) should you ever play more of the game id love to hear/see it. but privately is cool too of course. should be way more doable if you use that two barrels jump through door glitch on bbi at the start of the game to get the double discipline ring on a repeat playthrough, allows you to level vocations and get skills faster. you could even do it once for yourself on normal mode, and then reset the story by going to hard mode, getting the same ring for your pawn too.
i googled, apparently the effect stacks. so apparently you could just put *both* rings on yourself and level vocations at double speed. (each ring making it 50% faster) so i misremembered slightly, my bad on that one. but by getting two rings for yourself you can still double the discipline gained.
@@reallylatereviews this might sound weird but itd be good to have a somewhat avarage character, or pretty tall and not overly heavy, for the door glitch. for some reason if you're very short or very heavy the glitch becomes either very tricky or nigh impossible. found that out the hard way earlier with my new very short character. basically had to glitch myself on top of barrel 1, place barrel 2 onto it, pick up the bottom barrel 1 and quikly shove my head inside the now floating partially in the door barrel 2 before it solidified and *then* do the barrel glitch😂😂😂
Nah not yet, I was saving that for when I was really ready to move into a New Game+. I'm aware of what goes down though and I'm a big fan. I'm hesitant to do it and reset my progress before I try more vocations now I'm being recommended I try more of them through to max rank. Thank you as well for taking the time to watch and comment!
@@reallylatereviews new game + carries over all your items, levels and ranks. You just lose key items. You even get another set of those teleport stone thingies. Really worth doing IMHO.
@@JimPanzeeEsq Oh for crying out loud for real? I swear every mainstream source of information I've read about this game is wrong, I thought you lost all your ranks! Thank you so much for setting me right here, I will definitely explore this depending on when I tackle the seneschal. Thank you!
Haha aw nah I wasn't really, it's more a light joke at how I missed sorcerer! Also I found the idea of a Christmas apology video really funny Thanks for coming back to watch, and comment as well!
Okay let me tell you why are you doing little damage that's because you have been leveling up as not magic classes up until that point, leveling on DD is kinda different you see, each vocation gains different stats on each level up,so for example if you were playing as assassin or warrior each time you level up you get a s... ton of hp and Strength(increase physical damage) but on the other hand they gain terrible magic stat on level up what that means is that your sorcerer hasn't been Meant to deal magic damage because he has terrible magic stat due to his past levels...thats why it got better and better because on the new level ups you were gaining magic(not enough to make up for those levels lost meaning a character who has been sorcerer as soon as he reached gran soren is gonna deal WAY more damage than you at the same level with the same gear, also why are you not using bolide mate...mealstorm is good and all but against bosses with multiple hit targets(chimera, dragons, hydra) bolide is awesome (it also deals a little physical damage which considering your high strength is gonna matter more than you might think)
So the leveling thing I've been made aware of, and I hate that it's never explained in a satisfactory manner to the player. It may work as a method of building the ultimate character but it also creates immense frustration when you have no idea that your stats are dependant on what vocation you are when you level. I also loathe any system where I'm encouraged to make a new character for a new vocation, but there's only one save file. But yeah this explains why I got better on sorcerer eventually, so I appreciate hearing this, thank you! Okay so don't laugh, I confused Bollide with that soppy fireball spell. I've tried to rectify that in another video but I'm also not playing sorcerer in that, so it is what it is. And I was honestly enthralled with the malestrom spell because it was targeted and I know precisely where it's going to hit, so that makes me happy. The fact it benefits from strength is also crazy. Sorry about missing this earlier, all I can say is thank you dude for coming to check out my videos and sharing helpful advice. It's great for me and other players cause knowledge is power in DD. Thank you!
Funny mage bores you. Warrior is the one that bores me. It’s cool to hear people appreciate the warrior class in the game. It’s great. Just my least favorite. Would love to see you do magic archer
I think I am being harsh to mage at this point haha! It's just, warrior is so different to fighter, yet Mage feels like diluted Sorcerer, if that makes sense? After playing the mage classes I don't find them boring as a whole but that initial bit, the early ranks, that's very boring to me. It's lovely to see how everyone has their favourites and enjoys classes others might not want to touch! This is part of the charm of a good RPG, even if everything is designed well, there's room for personal preference and not just "what works best." Magic Archer, I will have to give it a proper look for sure, and I also want to say thank you for stopping to comment, plus for watching my video, thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I totally feel you there. For Me I have to have a high leveled mage in my party along with myself or I’d get bored as well. And it’s awesome to see you interact with us in the comments. I’m a new subscriber but so glad I subscribed man.
@@angeljohnson2433 Ayy holy smokes thank you! I just hope I can make videos worth your time! Maaaaaan that's fair, I gave Mage about 10 seconds rofl. What vocation do you go for? Also thank you! For watching my video and leaving a comment, I appreciate it!
@@reallylatereviewswell my favorite vocation is magikarcher its just fast paced bow action with the fun of a mage. once it was maxed, there was nothing really as fun as that vocation, tried out all but always came back to the magikarcher. some vocations just get out shined because of faster gameplay more versatility and to be honest my only 1 thing i really would love to see in this game is REAL multiplayer, jes its unique in its own way by having this pawn system but im sure it wil attract lots more people with it .
@@original-donzo I have started looking at Dragons Dogma Online, it looks basically like multiplayer DD. Sadly it was only ever in the east, it never made it to the west. Also it shut down in 2019 so that didn't help. But some people are working to reboot it as a passion project. Also magick archer is great, good choice! I felt the homing arrows were a bit slower than what I like compared to the fast flying arrows from strider/ranger. The abilities more than make up for it though, very versatile and fast paced vocation! The vortex arrow turning dudes into black holes is unmatched.
@@reallylatereviews thanks for the information, did not know about a online version glad i know now. and its very true the arrows are slower and that ranger vocation is just to op.
@@original-donzo No worries! And ayyy I'm not complaining haha, the little bit of ranger I've tried I've enjoyed! It was only at low level though so it's a shame if it's pretty unbalanced down the line
Makes me want to install and play through it again. But I really, really appreciate the pawn system. Since stat growth depends upon the vocation used on level up. I specifically built mines to be a tanky warrior from the start. Once I got him setup enough with gear and how he fought. It allowed me to fool around with different things, like the mage. Having that type of safety net when your fresh on a new class. Plus being able to bring in more, really takes that load off. Either way, I can't wait for the sequel. It will be god tier, as long as they build upon what they already have. No need to reinvent the wheel. Hopefully it's a skyrim situation, where I'm dead to the world because of it.
Aw I hope so and you're absolutely right, they need to keep the same formula and build on it. I'd maybe say trim the contrivances a bit but that's my personal preference. I've gained a bit of appreciation for the stat system, letting you build chars the way you want is really neat. I won't lie though it's a slower process than I'd like haha I also wanna say thank you! For watching and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
1. you need to try a double sorcerer with you as a sorcerer and a pawn also that has the big spells like maelstrom you want to cast. it halves the casting time of the major spell as the pawn will also be building up the spell with you. (also some of the best close-quarters spells are just the weapon buffs and having high magic stat using the staff ranged attack with holy, fire, or other buffs) 2. each level gained has stat increases based on the class you were in when you gained a level. So when you switched to sorcerer after leveling as a warrior for so long you barely had any magic stats. btw there are different stat gains from 1-100 and from 100-200 for each class (think of it as a regular gain and post-endgame gains). 3. certain classes benefit from min-maxing like pure melee classes taking the highest str gains and pure magic taking the highest magic gains, but the magic knight and the magic archer both are good with a mix of stats. Now that you mixed different stats one of them might be really fun to try. 4. search google for "Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Stat Planner" and use the GitHub link and you can see how different classes affect the stats when gaining levels. Love the vides btw
This is such a wonderful comment, I swear everyone with DD leaves comments to help other players and that's just lovely, thank you Josh. On the sorcerer sync I've heard about this but I never tried it because for real, my sorcerers kept getting stomped but I think with a better build on my main character it would be worth a try. The stat gain thing really was something I didn't know existed when levelling warrior, but I had no idea at all that your stat gains changed after level 100, that's nuts. I have to be honest I don't know if I'll ever break the 100 barrier haha! But you shone a big light on the magic knight benefitting from my new stats, so I will have to give it a proper look sometime and the stat planner which, honestly sounds like something any returning player could use. Lastly, thank you for watching my video, leaving kind words and helping me understand this game better, I'm really grateful!
@@reallylatereviews don't worry about your stats. Min/maxing is not important in DD. The most important stats for end game are the damage on your weapon, the base power of your skills, and the defense numbers on your armor. Experimenting with different builds while leveling is not a significant detriment
@@lethargicwizard Lethe I'm sorry I missed this earlier, sometimes youtube doesn't ping me properly. But thank you as well, I'm glad to hear it isn't as important because min/maxing seldom sparks joy for me haha! Although I do like equipment loadouts, stuff like that, so I'm a big fan of that aspect. Thank you!
Next christmas special feb 2024
Yes there was an intended fart joke at 19:12 but I've heard TH-cam does not appreciate the Dva fart video so I just cut it out.
I did experiment with some status effects off camera, and Silentium was really useful
You're right about the fighter and mystic knight, I'm gonna be returning to cover the latter sometime.
(also by hitting shift)
Deathly arrow does a lot more damage if you fire right at the moment it hits full charge. (ranger specific.)
Two sorcerers casting the same high level spell at the same time will bolster each others cast speed and share cast times.

It's like a valuable gem that you come across in an otherwise unremarkable corner of a video game dungeon ... yes, Dragon's Dogma makes me think in metaphors :D

Holy moly, thank you! For your kind words and for watching as well, I really do appreciate ya taking the time so thank you! I just hope I can keep making videos worth watching - even if that sends me back to the corner of a DD dungeon!

If you are looking for a new class to try check out the magic knight it’ll leave you in the action with the option to deal damage from afar.
Thank you! I did play some of the knight but I didn't get too far into the vocation in gameplay, but the spells do look pretty sweet! I really love the idea of a mage-tank so I will definitely go back and give it a proper look

Happy Holidays!
A wonderful follow-up video. It compliments the first video well while giving a fair shake to the sorcerer class.
I think Bitterblack Isle is the DLC this game deserved, but the nature of the post-game gransys really makes the grind to get there a challengeless slog, probably my only complaint with the difficulty curve for BBI.
I hear Ranger is the big boss of ranged combat so glad to know magick archer can compete

The items to mend conditions is another thing I should have focused on but I must admit, I wanted to spend as little time searching through the inventory as possible, I ended up dumping nearly all my curatives and tools in storage with the exception of a few Periapts
You're right as well about the stats from leveling, I never imagined it would have such an impact honestly, I assumed the augments would be more important!
I didn't reach 60 until a bit later, and then 70 (I think?) It was definitely fun but had stressful parts, I feel like a higher level would have made it more fun but getting to that higher level was not something I was prepared to do in that time :D
Thank you again, I always worry if I'm doing a game justice.
Looking forward to that next vid! One can never have too many enemy skulls-crushing meteors.
Another great video :) Ignore my comment about the sorcerer class being awesome in your first video, seems you were one step ahead of me haha
Maaaaaan I never ignore good advice! I only went and checked it out again thanks to comments like yours! Thank you for coming to check out my other video at all holy smokes! Just hope I did sorcerer justice :D
So glad you liked sorcerer! Video was great, thank you for the content
Can't wait for dragon's dogma 2!
I've just seen the calcium enjoyer part of your name ffs rofl
I like the twist on the minotaur now that I know about it, it is still weird though.
@@boneman-calciumenjoyer8290 Ayy never gotta say thanks for the reply! And yeah the dash into that falling animation is fantastic, it's like they gently drop off without any momentum haha
You too my dude!
@@reallylatereviews another dd video means another like from me
@@funkle2645 Thank you funkle! I really appreciate you watching, liking and commenting, so thank you! All I can say is I hope ya enjoyed the video!
the best feature of the ingle spell is that you can literally snipe with it by pressing the alternate aim button, on console is the camera stick, you just press it and depending on the spell will either reset the position of the sigil or toggle manual aiming, and its awesome
See this is useful because I didn't learn this until someone else told me. So what you don't see in this video is every time I buff myself, I run into a corner so I can't see anyone else, cast buff, and let the ball float onto my character. I don't cut embarassing footage out of my videos but I just couldn't bring myself to show that rofl
Thank you for telling me this though because I wasn't aware that you could reset the sigil position after so easily! And thank you also for watching, I appreciate it!
LOL all of that without trying Magick Archer, the true lord of Bitterblack Isle!
Ayyy I tell you I am filming Mystic Knight/Magick Archer/Ranger right now! I'm not gonna lie though, do not expect me to be good at ANY of them haha!
Thank you as well for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it, so thank you!
@@reallylatereviews
Nah man, thank you for such a cool, lighthearted and great video, I enjoyed it.
As for Magick Archer, no need to be good, just spam Ricochet Hunter on corridors and see everything gets DESTROYED. for the rest Sixfold\Ninefold Bolt :)
@@FrozenAXL Oh the ricochet thing is great haha! The only thing I don't like about Magick Archer is it basic attack lacks punch, but I feel that's the tradeoff with the powerful abilities.
And thank you for your kind words holy smokes!
Wait until you find out about spell syncing and turn your slow cast spells into a semi automatic with your squad of sorcerers only
Aw I learnt, everyone from the DD playerbase has been so wonderful and sent so many tips for me and other players. I didn't utilise it because mostly I wanted to experience how it was for players without that knowledge (also i'm dumb)
But I did get something similar going with my pawns in what I'm recording now (I think)
Thank you! For taking the time to watch my video and leave helpful advice because for this game it really is needed! I appreciate it!
@@reallylatereviews
Here's a secret tip for spell syncing: cancel your spell when your pawns start syncing. Then cast another spell straight away.
Enjoy full-auto
@@Screwypone Rofl that sounds so busted. I swear there's always something with this game that just makes me smile haha!
Thank you! I'm grateful for every secret strategy!
You wore the dragon forged thong for a joke, I wore it cause my Arisen Waifu character looked stunning and brave in it. We are not the same.
Have you tried the Sorcerer's Bolide/Meteor spell?
Ayy I have but not for this video! I honestly missed it completely. I am editing a mystic knight video where I do show it off a bit though mostly through my pawns. It's nuts I love it haha
Thank you as well for watching my video! And for taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it and yeah good shoutout because that meteor spell would have been perfect in here.
@@reallylatereviews hey man, thank YOU for making such wonderful videos. I only discovered ur channel due to my love of DD lol
Some day I will say with pride: "I've watched Really Late Reviews before he got big".
Thanks for continuing to make DDDA content man I love it
Thank you holy smokes! I appreciate you coming to watch and comment, really means a lot to me! I'm already being recommended the mystic knight so next Christmas special sorted also rofl!
@@reallylatereviews sounds great I will be eagerly awaiting your next DDDA special they really make the game shine brighter
For weapon skills it basically just tells you how to use weapon skills, but for Core Skills it will basically tell you which buttons to press.
i wonder if this guy knows you can manually aim spells by clicking shift/left stick while casting
yeh i knew that. i definitely didn't struggle for hours with the auto aim. i totally didn't self buff my character by standing in a corner and letting the buff ball hit me. these things didn't happen
(Thank you!)

And ayyy! Thank you!

@@GeoffPlays rofl ffs. And that's a good idea honestly.
I really like this game, it has a lot of flaws, but also has a lot of cool things imo, I hope the sequel is even better

(And thanks for watching too :D )
Thank you! I've learned more from people leaving helpful comments (like you!) than I did playing the game
As for the Wyrmking's Ring, I just totally missed the forgery play behind that, imma get on that for my next game though :P It sounds incredibly useful and I imagine my pawn will be a big fan.
I do like the mitigators though (now I know their name :P ) because usually it's the stray runners that mess up my party in fights
I honestly assumed big monsters would equate to faster leveling and vocation leveling, so I do appreciate the advice haha, and it explains why a few minutes afk in Gran Soren made more progress than me farming drakes.
Fantastic!

In case you ever wonder how end game characters deal with Elder Ogre, i annihilate her in about 30s and that's without Demon's Periapt stacking

Still 3 playthroughs before BBI that's some serious dedication, big respect!

and if this isn't the shittest Christmas present of all i dunno what is, you're welcome!
I am so sorry
I was worried I was just criticising the game without cause here, so it's good to hear it's not just me! I'm more likely to play through the game again rather than farm BBI is the impression I am ultimately left with

Holy moly okay that's a nice buff haha! I'll have to check that out! I already missed another important ring as well because I'm dumb :D next time!

Haha aw nah I wasn't really, it's more a light joke at how I missed sorcerer! Also I found the idea of a Christmas apology video really funny
Thanks for coming back to watch, and comment as well!
Thank you!

It's lovely to see how everyone has their favourites and enjoys classes others might not want to touch! This is part of the charm of a good RPG, even if everything is designed well, there's room for personal preference and not just "what works best."

all I can say is thank you. you saved my life I did have them checked and they were too high as you feared
I won't lie though it's a slower process than I'd like haha
I also wanna say thank you! For watching and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
1. you need to try a double sorcerer with you as a sorcerer and a pawn also that has the big spells like maelstrom you want to cast. it halves the casting time of the major spell as the pawn will also be building up the spell with you. (also some of the best close-quarters spells are just the weapon buffs and having high magic stat using the staff ranged attack with holy, fire, or other buffs)
2. each level gained has stat increases based on the class you were in when you gained a level.
