    i got a bit self indulgent with some of the rants in this video. hopefully they make you laugh. talking about devotion points and staying awake was real tough.
    I joke about alcoholism in the video because I'm funny but it's a serious matter. Alcoholics Anonymous operates in many countries, give them a ring if you need it. They even do virtual meetings now.
    No this doesn't effect me, I don't really enjoy alcohol unless it's a fruity cider and I can't even drink that because I want to get beach ready. yes i know im insane

    For new players watching, you'll have an easier time in the early game if you just max out one attack skill of choice first and use that to fight. You should be able to easily 1 hit kill entire pack of enemies with a maxed attack skill.
    Very detailed review of the game. The base game quests and areas are already great, but the exploration of hidden areas and secret side quests are my favorite parts of the game, most of which are only available or accessible on Ultimate difficulty. There are entire secret quest lines tied to these areas and most of them will lead to secret bosses with unique rewards.
    I also like how smooth Grim Dawn made it to level up your alternate characters after your first. Factions will sell Mandates when you reach maximum reputation with them. You can buy these and store in the shared stash to be used on your other new characters. These will double reputation gain with factions, making the reputation progress much smoother, without needing to grind reputation through bounty quests.

    • @reallylatereviews

      I love this advice because it's absolutely true, and I did the exact opposite every time haha. I am the worst sort of player, I had a dozen abilities, all very weak. Love it.
      The secret areas are so nice. I think something is lost in the procedurally generated arpgs. Sure once you've found a secret you know where it is forever, but finding that hand placed location is worth it I think. And of course, the rewards!
      It's the smoothest implementation of alt-gearing I've seen. Only now decades later World of Warcraft is addressing this. I know the comparison is insane but GD is perfect for replayability with alts, without making you bang your head against a wall, so I couldn't agree more.

      It is indeed what is recommended, but honestly, as a new player, I used my point in sort to have 1 in each skill of the 2 masteries I Ichoose (Shaman + inquisitor) ; except few that are kind of incompatible, or useless with one another.
      It makes my spell bar full, and too small to contain everything anyway, but I have numerous passivs and enhencement ; and also few agressiv spells.
      And and the stacking of all that little effects result in a really powerfull charactere. Maybe also the fact to have quicker high level skills ?
      I passed the warden in Burwich like 2 game hours ago, and I still havn't died. Some fights were a little tricky and require I use my heals and spell in an efficient manner.... but just what I except from a game like that :).
      Maybe it is different at higher difficulty level (I play in veteran), but for now, to me, it is just enough to not just roll out on the game 🤔.
      But maybe Vindicator is a classe which can allow to not max spells 🤔 ?(because, I think, heavely empowered attack and lot of passiv buffs 🤔)
      And I swear I did all the zone, kill everything, even the sooooo overpowered (for the zone) boss hidden in kind of a... "shore cave", near burrwhich..
      It needed hard focus and not a lot mistakes were alowed, but stil succeed without dying 🤔😅 !

    Grim Dawn is my favorite ARPG ever. Bought it a few years back, sunk 3,7k hours between vanilla, Reign of Terror (the Diablo 2 recreation mod) and D3 classes mod. Levelled tens of characters with many more builds that I still didn't build. It's a beautiful and addicting game and... @@reallylatereviews Honestly the games greatest strength is the fact its still supported by the developers. I grabbed the game back in 2018 and the game has changed a lot since then.
      Components used to come in pieces, and you had to combine them to make the finished components. Components also didn't auto collect so you had to manually pick them all up. The glyphs were added with Forgotten Gods, before that your build just had to either be sturdy enough to just tank all the hits, or you had to waddle around to not stand in the damage. And remember that visual feedback on the skills? That also wasn't as good. The skills used to not change based on anything you modified them with so you just had to know it based on your gear and stats, and the visual effects were much more basic.An great example of this was the molotov skill you showed, Blackwater Cocktail. Its visual element never changed despite the radius of it getting bigger, so enemies on the borders of it would just explode from invisible ghost fire. Oh and the Aether Ray you love didn't pierce through enemies so it would just stop on the first thing it hit, making it almost useless. I would say though the biggest improvement is the amount of items added and tweaks made to itemization and gear in general. Like you did in the video, the game really is at the point where anyone can pick up the game and play, ANY mastery combination and use, ANY skill they want and it will still function just fine.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@woobaloo3956 Just for that aether ray change alone I respect Crate but ROFL holy smokes that invisible molotov range sounds dreadful, and yet they've been making all these improvements as you said! That is a strength, especially today where games are either quickly dropped or milked beyond all recognition. But yeah, the less flashy changes like components, tweaks and added items are what's elevated this game so much. They've clearly kept this game alive and that's lovely.

I did an Arcanist / Demolitionist build, roleplaying as a former Rover who went to live and teach at the capital and nerd out over old Rhowari history when the big GD happened. I think the game calls that combo "sorcerer", but as I used the Aether Ray to hose my way through the Arkovian underground so that my cursed ancestors could finally be laid to rest, that wasn't how I thought of it. Added along with components they can be attached to any piece of gear for insane amounts of further item customization. They really help fill gaps in your resistances and are essential for Hardcore mode imo. They give a real purpose to the faction bounty tables because you want to rush for the Revered Rare Augments with all factions. Fantastic video! Grim Dawn is my personal favorite ARPG of all time. It was a lot of fun seeing a fresh player's perspective after playing it for thousands of hours myself. I highly recommend checking out the modded community leagues if you want more content. Each season adds tons of cool new loot to experiment with, and the last one even added a full new act.

      Ayyyy well first off, please let me say thank you for watching and commenting. I'm always grateful to hear kind words, but when an existing fan of a game leaves them it stops my worries over the video a bit :D I want nothing more than to do these great games justice and be respectful to their fans, and Grim Dawn is just phenomenal, so thank you, I hope I did it justice!
      Holy smokes thousands of hours I can believe it though. My playtime in Grim Dawn quickly shot up, it's the second longest playtime in my reviewed games.
      I had a quick look at the modded leagues but I'd been working on the video since November, and it was already 2 hours rofl. So I wanted to call it a day. But I will be doing my best to make a video for Asterkarn, and I'll also do my best to check those out. I love that the community has created events like this, that is lovely. I would have tried those modded masteries but I really didn't want to mess with my saves until I'd got Stormrend lol

    I've backed quite a few games on kickstarter, and I've enjoyed quite a few of them, but Grim Dawn is still my favorite. They kept adding more, and more content during development because they were in the zone. Some of those long and wide stretches of land are the end result of them forgetting to scale things back a bit; act 1 is massive as an end result. One thing that I don't recall being mentioned, and my apologizes if it was, is that the over world and many of the dungeons aren't procedurally generated. I've put in about 200 hours between GOG and Steam, and I can't wait for the expansion. Outside of a few D&D licensed games, Grim Dawn and Guild Wars 1 are the few exceptions that have a lot of class depth, but also great class synergy when multi-classing. I do wish more games would use the idea more often, even if they're a balancing nightmare.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Holy smokes that actually makes a lot of sense looking back. Act 4 feels very much like the zones were made to hold more dungeons and quests as they feel complete, just empty. You know you're absolutely right I didn't mention it, I only brought it up for the Shattered Realm that the levels were hand crafted. I should have said something but the truth is at the time I wasn't aware just how much procedural generation was going on in arpgs these days. I dropped the ball there. And nothing against procedural, but I like that Grim Dawn's land is hand crafted.
      I've always shied away from kickstarter, the first kickstarter project I backed got hit with a copyright infringement notice rofl. Yet I can clearly see this was one of the good ones. I agree, multi classing is just one of those things that extends playtime and adds so much gameplay. (And I mean balancing ya know, pffft sure if there's multiplayer. My perspective is I play Skyrim, the community has been rebalancing that game for 10 years)
      I will quickly add because I'm going on and on, thank you! For watching my video, stopping by to comment and share this because I didn't know about that! So thank you!

    2024 is a great time to be an ARPG fan, the current state of Grim Dawn being one of the highlights.
    One thing I enjoy is the pacing. The game starts slow enough to learn the basics and then ramps up the challenge to scale with where the player *can* have their character at any given time. Another thing are the secondary mechanics like Reputation and the Constellation systems; it's one thing to get the basics (stats/skills/items) right, but GD lays some nice layers on top of it. Then you get cool boss fights on a regular basis. Also, the experience gain from reading lore is cool, and the lore pages are an interesting look into the world. I could go on, but I'd rather just get back into the game.
    Edit: Last Epoch definitely a fun game. Not as deep as GD or POE, but not a casual game neither. The class-based skill system is deep. Each base class has a passive tree. Each mastery has a passive tree. You choose a mastery, you get access to the entirety of that tree; you get access to the left half of the other two masteries for that class. Then every skill has it's own skill tree, and many of them access the skill tree of other skills, which can be built up for some cool double- (or even triple-) dipping effects with every attack.
    Not quite a 10/10 game like POE or GD, but the potential is there. I spent 5 months playing nothing but 3 Primalist-base characters, and none of them play remotely the same. All of them are effective, all of them are fun, the Swarmblade Druid being my favorite, because I get to play a magic murder hornet who brings a storm with every attack. Also, he has a scorpion pet and his gloves proc a swarm of bees (not optimal, but sometimes theme > effectiveness).

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think if you can get that much enjoyment out of a game that speaks pretty well to it honestly, so I am glad to hear this I really am. I hear a lot of mixed feedback about Last Epoch but I sometimes think that's the marmite effect. Some people love it, some hate it. But the Swarmblade Druid description just makes me want to try the game haha!
      I really agree about the pacing of the gameplay mechanics as well, you never feel overwhelmed in GD. I just wanna also say thank you for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it and this was a lovely comment to read. You're right, 2024 is great for ARPG fans! Thank you!

    • @toddwilliams8128
      @toddwilliams8128 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@reallylatereviews Honestly, worth it just to play Swarmblade Druid, except that Beastmaster is pretty fun. I have two, and one is themed around prehistoric minions- a Raptor and a Sabretooth... and the raptor has feathers, which is a cool detail for someone who has been a dino nerd since age 6.
      Going outside of Primalist characters, my buddy and I were partied up at launch, which was rough, but doable- mostly just server overload which caused loading issues which we found a workaround for. I had planned on trying out the brand-new (at launch) Falconer mastery, so I started with a Rogue, but playing through with the Rogue skills, I ended up going Bladedancer, which is an absolute blast. My buddy started with the Sentinel and took the Void Knight mastery. So you had a glass-cannon leaping around and slicing stuff up and a tank charging around and fidget-spinning stuff into oblivion.
      I've dabbled in Acolyte-> Necromancer, the minion choices are pretty cool, and given how skills can be developed, there is lot of choice as to how you can make regular skeletons powerful. Still haven't tried the Mage, but I'm pretty sure there are a ton of fun options, which is a big thing for this genre... giving players meaningful options.
      Anyway. loved the video, not only does it give a lot of info that new players could use, but down-to-earth with a sense of humor that makes the 2 hours fly by.

    Having played this for the better part of the last decade (and even taking my handle from my favorite Witch God!), many of the observations you made have been lost on me over time. This video made me nostalgic, bringing back every memory I've had the first time I played the game. Much of what I know and have experienced are pretty much on par with other vets in that we've seen the game evolve slowly over the last decade and probably would have made us jaded to a degree. I know it did me. At some point, I just looked forward to the next patch, anticipating if my favorite build is going to get the Zantai Stamp of Nerfing, or if there are new QOLs will make my RSI bearable. Your review successfully dredged wonderful memories, chief among them my initial observations about skills as well (I dropped countless F-bombs the moment I used Aether Ray the first time!). I keep telling people, Grim Dawn is _the_ best ARPG of all time, and I have lived enough to have played D1 on launch day and do all those Baal runs in D2:LOD in early high school. Somehow, the years have taken away a lot of the reasons _why_ I loved and still love the game, but I remember them all again. Good job on making old men like me giddy looking forward to Fangs of Asterkarn. Here's to a few more thousand hours. Softly holding you to a follow-up review once the expansion is out. ;)

I really think this is my favourite top down arpg, the only reasons it hasn't eclisped my PoE playtime yet is because real life, other games and truth be told there is a point making these videos where you've been playing one game for months and you need a break. Even with all that, I'm still doing a few totem runs to farm Stormrend. So I agree with you is what I'm saying ya know, it plays like a labour of love.

I often get surprised by new fearures and QoL every time I come back to it, just shows how much the developers and community cares for it. As always your review and video format is on point mate. I'd just like to point out that Titan Quest is the father of Grim Dawn, Crate was founded by former TQ devs and both games share the same engine. Might be something you'd like to check out if you haven't yet. Just be mindful that the upcoming Titan Quest 2 is gonna be from different devs.

      That's lovely to hear as well, it feels like Grim Dawn is one of those games that will just endure long after any fanfare has gone because of the players, and devs who clearly want to keep it alive.
      And I did not know this, or that they used the same engine, that's crazy. Crazier still because I tried Titan Quest years ago and to be honest it felt wooden so I never got very far. I might have to give it a second chance now though that you've said this because it may have been that at the time I could not fathom standing still to hit something rofl

      I'm glad someone else loves the weapon proc skills haha! I think that's so clever I really do. I get to do extra things without worrying about 12 different hotkeys.

I dunno if you noticed but I go out of my way to censor my screename in these videos. Purely for privacy and also to protect my friends. But I've considered streaming stuff and this isn't the first time I've been asked to do multiplayer. So I need to figure out an account or something, it may just be renaming my Steam Profile and hiding my friends list - this would also keep new friends safe as well. At the same time, I feel I need a seperate discord account once that box is opened ya know?
      I feel shitty writing that, but it's a concern I've had ever since more people starting watching my videos. I've had some nasty comments that don't represent 99.9% of the people leaving comments. Great video! Glad you've been enjoying the game!
    Some quick notes/corrections:
    - Hope you're still holding on to that Salt Bag you spawn with at level 1! I hear there's a good use for it in Ultimate! (Spoilers ahead: (Grim Dawn and its two expansions each have a 'Secret Quest' only available in Ultimate difficulty. Each one is something of a comment on the game's development at the time. Grim Dawn's secret quest is a parody of the Early Access process. Ashes of Malmouth makes a comment on the rampant datamining (e.g., grimtools) and modding that occurred between the game's release and the first expansion. Forgotten Gods's secret quest is an homage to Crate Entertainment as a whole while adding 'puzzles' that run counter to the way the community had been building endgame characters until then. If you decide to pursue these quests, I'd recommend making sure your character is in tip-top shape!))
    - At some point you mention the 'On-Attack' proc archetype being able to activate from pets and retaliation damage. Pet-scaling pets do not trigger their player's On-Attack/Crit/Kill procs. Player-scaling pets do. Each summon in the game specifies whether it is Pet-scaling or Player-scaling. Thermite Mines, Inquisitor Runes, or Shaman Wind Devils, for instance, are Player-scaling. Necromancer Skeletons and Occultist Hellhounds, however, are Pet-scaling. I'm unsure about retaliation damage triggering On-Attack effects. Worth noting, however, that an ability does not need to deal damage to be an Attack (or to Crit). Occultist's Curse of Frailty is GREAT at activating On-Attack effects because every time it 'ticks' and applies its debuff on any enemy, it rolls the chance to trigger such an effect. Non-damaging debuffs like this can also Crit! (- For the purposes of triggering On-Crit effects; a debuff critting does nothing inherently for the debuff itself)
    - Best of luck finding Stormrend! It has an increased chance to drop from Monster Totems, introduced with Forgotten Gods, but can still drop randomly from any source. Piece of insight that totally went over my head (after thousands of hours in GD...) until someone pointed it out: Thunderous Strike, the Primal Strike transmuter that makes it spammable, does not require a 2H weapon! It only requires that you can use Primal Strike. ;)
    - I'm entirely with you on the point of players being CC'd leading to deaths that don't feel satisfying. Particularly in 'endgame' being CC'd is essentially an auto-death sentence, and it necessitates the acquisition of CC resists even though those resists are both rarer in general and can never reach a point at which they make a character truly immune to any CC effect. I would much prefer the game if player CC were removed, as I think it'd make moment-to-moment gameplay smoother. However, I also acknowledge that CC is one way to keep monsters feeling dangerous - counter point to that, though, is that I think monsters are plenty dangerous if other mechanics of theirs are just outright ignored.
    - I'm reasonably certain powbam's GDSwitcher isn't what separates your saves based on which expansion you launch? I think the game is supposed to do this by default. But I haven't toggled off my expansions in a long while, so my memory on that front may be more suspect.
    - I also mostly agree with the notion of Act 4 feeling a bit quest-sparse. Even with the Hidden Path interacting with its areas (you did do the Hidden Path, right? :D ) the lack of intermediary quest content along the road to the Necropolis does give it a feeling of emptiness. But it's also where Trip South, one of the game's best pieces of lore, is found. So, there's that.
    Looking forward to seeing you in Asterkarn!

      So the salt bag haha. I didn't know all the ins and outs but I wanted to give a nod to players who know that I found out how important it was. I haven't started any of the secret stuff yet, and I really did hold onto it just because I like keeping starting gear :D
      The on-attack stuff is on me and I'm grateful you've pointed it out, thank you! I won't lie, it's hard for me and maybe other newcomes to notice those details. What I am curious is if my skeletons and retaliation attacks were triggering something else, which was in turn triggering on-attack effects. Or if it was just my retaliation attacks doing the work and the skeletons took the credit for it purely because they were shooting haha. Either way this is an oversight on my part, thank you!
      Gosh I have been running a totem in Crown Hill over and over. It will not drop so I'm taking a break but I will get back to it :P But yeah I do want it and that transmuter makes it sound even better haha!
      The CC is a big one. I don't love it, for all the reasons you've said, but also you're right it maintains some balance against certain enemies. What I would say is the one shotting because of Grim Dawn's CC, at least I know what happened. In other games I don't know unless the game has a combat log. Combat logs aren't fun so even when I complain about GD, it's still better than the alternative :D But that doesn't change the fact that CC is auto-death, I like that phrase haha
      Lastly for the GDswitcher I probably just got that wrong, and I read from a comment that Act 4 is a bit sparse because it's where the initial kickstarter boom had gone into the first 3 acts. I've been waiting for a rainy week to start the hidden path stuff (honestly I may have done a bit too much Stormrend farming)
      also Trip South :(
      Let me say as well, thank you so much for watching my long ass video! And stopping to leave kind words and helpful insight! I appreciate it, I really do, so thank you! And see ya in Astarkarn yeeeee!

    That was an excellently crafted review for one of my favorite games ever made. Easily earned yourself a new sub and I will be sharing this review around to my friends to try and get you a few more at least.
    My only point of contention with this game is a lack of cross play. I know it's an 8 year old game and wouldn't be easy to do, especially when this game starts to show it's limitations with higher tier SRs and the visual bugs. I bought this game on xbox because I was disappointed with Diablo 4. Had no idea how small the community is on console, it feels like there's maybe 12 of us. This game is fun solo but real replayability comes from multiplayer. PC may be the better system but there's something to be said for consoles ease of use and the comfort of your couch. Just wish we had a way to play with everyone else that didn't require starting over and purchasing a new pc.

The lack of cross play is a real issue and I wish I'd thought of it, especially given what you've said. Finding other people to play with sounds like a nightmare. I do love my PC but I've always felt consoles are just as good for gaming and it's always a shame to see either one suffer. It sounds as well like GD may never get cross play due to it's age, I've since read there are even problems getting Steam and GoG to play nice with it. Damn this is a shame. For the most part you use nightbalde skills but the dual pistols are very effective against aoe bosses and dangerous enemies you want to stay away from. There is also a lot of epic items that play into this build very well

It also has a short cooldown PLUS the other node makes into a damage boost for all follow up attacks.. and of course you can still proc weapon skill attacks in between blade bursts CD. The classes blend well together but it took me a long time to figure out how keyboard bindings are very fascinating in this game for abilities, attacks and devotions. I love the game and your reactions to experiencing the systems or the gameplay in general are priceless to me. Keep up the great content!
    I would strongly advise you to check the Rainbow filter. Yes, it is created by fans of the game, but it is also confirmed that they will add it as a permanent feature to the game in a future update. It will make your experience a little better and easier.
    On another note, there are more than a few mods for the game, but I wouldn't suggest them for you to test them right away. I don't use any duplication method or stuff like that, but I do use the Grim Dawn Item Assistant. The game is amazing at the variety of builds that it can offer you, but your stash simply cannot handle the amount of items that you will receive throughout your journey. You can give it a try, it's worth is priceless to me. Having just a few builds done and may be almost 200 more planned, I cannot imagine my life without an infinite stash space.
    I don't much else to say about the game and you haven't already said. Whoever has played knows what an adventure it is. As for the others out there, what are you waiting for?

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Someone has mentioned the Rainbow Filter so of course I forgot about it, I will write it down this time haha! It's good to hear they're thinking of adding it officially, that is the sort of thing I love to see holy smokes.
      I won't lie, farming Stormrend I've been tempted to use the Item Assistant rofl. But I'm resisting, I think few games get me to do that. Grim Dawn, Elden Ring, stuff like that - I want to obtain the items the right way. There are other games when I just reach a point and think "ahh I can't be arsed" but I appreciate you mentioning it for the stash capabilities, that is just very helpful :D I couldn't have said it better either, it is a real adventure.
      Lastly please let me say thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch my video and leave kind words. Your portrait is so familiar so if you're returning please forgive me, I can't be sure, TH-cam has made it impossible to search comments by name. @@reallylatereviews Thank you for your reply. I'm new to your channel, I have just subscribed to you, while I was half an hour into the video. The picture is of a digital artist, even though I'm using before I knew the author. It is possible for someone else to have been using also.
      Not sure why you think the Item Assistant may alter your experience in a negative way. There two main things that you can use it for is having an infinite stash and checking how many of the items in the game you have collected. Neither of the two has ruined the experience for me at all, even the opposite. It's just cool all the time that you have invested in one character to be in way, also invested in other characters. This will not reduce the time that you have to farm the items, it will just allow you to freedom to try other builds more easily.
      With that said, the Forgotten Gods expansion has added the option to transmute items, so even if you decide that you have one that dropped many times you can transmute it to another epic item, for the cost of some resources. There is also a second option in the transmute tab, to transmute the set items in another part of the set.
      By any means, I don't have any intention of ruining your experience as we both agreed that it is a unique adventure for anyone who tries it. Again thank you for replying and wish you luck in your adventures in Cairn. Also, I wish you many loayl subscribers for your channel and I'm looking forward to your next video. 😊

Just this week I picked up Titan Quest on Switch and somewhat enjoyed it and while watching some videos on TQ, I found that DG is pretty much its closest spiritual successor. I got instantly hooked on the game this time and I really wanna explore all the depths and wides this game has to offer.
    Loved your humour, I miss this long format cool analysis videos about games, there are plenty about movies and TV shows, but gaming doesn't have that many well scripted, descriptive and laugh-inducing videos to go by. @@reallylatereviews I had never played Titan Quest on PC, therefore I cannot really say how successfully they transitioned the game onto Switch, but it's mostly servicable. I'd say Diablo 2 did it better, but it isn't a detriment to how fun the game can be. But boy, oh boy, Grim Dawn is leagues better. I love all the effort that the devs put into that game, so many quality of life improvements, it makes the entire experience incredibly wholesome. I love that they constantly support the game, despite it not being a live service demanding you keep pouring money into it. I ended up leveling to 20ish level Commando in one sitting after watching your video and then went and bought all the DLCs on GOG, because I really want them to feel the support for creating games with this kind of philosophy. @@reallylatereviews Oh, regarding that Commando, I play just like you did. No guides, no builds, I just picked whatever seemed most fun and slowly I grew to appreciate some abilities more so I started focusing on them. First I had a fairly versatile build where I would use Fire Strike to whittle enemies from afar, and if they got too close, I'd swap weapons and use Forcewave to mop up the rest. Slowly but steadily I specced deeper into Demolitionist and I even got an Epic Chest which enabled the Gunslinger ability to dual-wield pistols, as well as two very lovely Epic Pistols.
      Now I don't swap weapons almost at all, because Fire Strike with some enhancements and skills from items is just so efficient at dispatching enemies, and paired with a ramped up Grenado these deal with most of my issues :D And on top of that it plays wonderfully into this idea of mine of creating a character inspired by a Bridge Burner called Fiddler (soldiers who would also be sappers/demolitionists) from Malazan Book of the Fallen fantasy series. I love how the game just lets you be organic and still have ton of fun. Really reminds me of the best times I had with Diablo 2 back in the day, but it goes way beyond that in the combinations it enables.

      I will say this, Grim Dawn is absolutely a game you can try out, get a feel for it, and refund it within the 2 hour window on Steam if you think you won't enjoy it. Myself and pretty much my entire raid group back then, played Lost Ark when it came out. It lasted two days for us. So I think if you got 2 months out of Lost Ark, Grim Dawn will last you a lifetime and that's not me being a smartass honestly. I just think it's a far more engaging game, but the world is of course smaller than Lost Ark.
      The co-op mode works well enough but you'll need to have the same expansions, or use the GDswitcher tool on the crate forums to play vanilla with friends. I only had 2 bugs, and they both occurred on co-op. Loot my friend couldn't see, and a crash to desktop. After over a hundred hours without a CTD, I'm willing to bet that was bad luck. Another great review, had to skip some for parts for spoiler reasons as i've yet to play it. But you've sold me, end of the month it's mine. Keep up the great work.

      Ayyy Constantine, thank you! I hope I gave adequate warning for the spoilers, especially in the story section. I wanted to give a few examples because in top down arpgs, I've just not seen quests where I can choose what to do. I just get told what to do usually, ya know?
      GD is usually on sale, and the base game is really cheap when it is. I've been saying this in other replies but Steam's two hour refund period is more than enough time to see if you enjoy the top down arpg loop. I only say this because Diablo 3s demo I was uninstalling in 2 hours. Grim Dawn 120 hours played. I want to add that as you're trusting me to make a purchase. Let me also say thank you for watching, and coming back as well as leaving kind words. I always appreciate it, so thank you!

    This is such an in depth and yet charming analysis. Great work man!
    And yeah you are preaching into the choir here, Grim Dawn is a brilliant game.
    It's kinda unfortunate that we don't get a lotta ARPGs like this these days. Classic design with surprisingly modern QoL sensibilities.
    I've 15+ unique builds in this game and I keep coming back. The fact that I can look at an monster and what it drops and make a complete thematic build around it that blasts endgame is so flavourful and immersive. Beautiful game.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is so true. Just having the flexibility and opportunity to build around items. I've seen similar stuff in other arpgs where items 'complete' a build, but because of the competitive and timed nature of the leagues/seasons, there isn't really time for the average player to experiment without serious setbacks. I can't imagine anyone being able to try 15+ builds as you have without losing all their progress repeatedly. I guess tying in to what you said about classic design with modern QoL, with Grim Dawn having the one QoL feature modern "live" arpgs lack: Time.
      I'm rambling rofl but I agree wholeheartedly with what you said, and yes new choir member here. Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching my long ass video! I appreciate that, so thank you!

    Ah yes, Grim Dawn. I've played a couple (of thousands) of hours. It's been about 2 years since I last played Grim Dawn, right now I'm waiting for the new expansion's release to see if it has enough in it to bring me back to the game. Anyway, great review. It's nice to see new players enjoying the game this much.
    About effects like entrapment, being frozen and others, you can raise your resistance to those too, either through equipment, skills, devotions or components. You can't 100% resist them but you can reduce the time you're affected enough to make these effects bearable. But yeah, I'm not a fan of movement restriction either.

      Holy smokes I'm nowhere near a thousand hours but I won't lie, it's a game I do keep popping back to play! Although I can understand for sure waiting for Asterkarn that makes sense
      Thank you as well for the info, I must admit I tried to stay away from the second and third stat panels while playing haha! But I will look into them further as I do more Shattered Realm. It's the age old thing though if you want to move a game will try and stop you, if you want to stand still the game will try and move you
      Thank you! For taking the time out of your day to watch and comment, I appreciate it, so thank you!

    41:00 that kinda is on those games though, transmog system should be in every game.
    1:10:00 yup they really need to 'fix' that.
    1:12:00 and as someone with 2,000 hours in path of exile: grim dawn can be played OFFLINE!
    First video I've seen from your channel, great video.

      The offline play is always appreciated. Crazy to think that's now a positive we have to hope for in videogames haha. Settlers of Kalguur(?) looks good though. I respect the Path of Exile playtime as well holy smokes!
      I do hope they fix the expansion issue and I'm grateful for your comments about my gearing point. I also think every game these days needs a transmog system, especially when we're pushed to all wear the same "best possible" clothes
      I also want to say thank you for your kind words and taking the time out of your day to watch my video. I really do appreciate it, so thank you!

    If you haven’t already, you’d probably like Titan Quest as well. Though it is a bit of a regression lol. But yeah, I’ve been gushing at GD as well. The main reason I play arpgs is for the build variety and this does it the best in the genre to me. It really is simultaneously accessible and hardcore. That’s how well designed it is

      I tell ya I tried TQ years and years ago, but for about 10 minutes. I'm not a massive top down arpg fan so Grim Dawn really took me by surprise, it's made me want to try TQ again when I have time! Also the expansion pack Ragnarok looks good. I think what you said is what helped me in. Pretty much every thing I hear about path of exile in recent years is "just follow a build." I really do think it's a great game but that instantly makes it inaccessible to people. GD has no such barrier and, like you said, it has the variety. I mean now I'm rambling, I agree in short rofl
      Thank you, for watching and commenting as well! I appreciate it, thank you!
