I just got the Captains in the Kingmaker last. They fit okay but I have duck feet. Narrow overall but wide toes. For me the True last with an extra 2mm in width and height just around the toe cap would have been perfect. Or if they made them in a C width I could just by my regular size instead of going down half a size. I still love the ones I got but they are very slightly cramped in the toes and bulge slightly around the instep.
Looks like the Vanguard is still available on the old last for now. Plus, you’ll probably be able to get the old last if you request it from customer support.
Ive done this before with shoes/clothing that works well for me and I know are being discontinued; Buy multiple pairs and stock up! Theres no rule you cant lol. I did it when my favorite gym shoes ever (Reebok Nano 2s) stopped being made and im so so glad that I did because the new versions of the Nano suck ass
2 of the people in our wear test group have C width and both prefer the updated version. I think (and hope!) you'll like it, but we still have stock of the legacy lasts onhand, although it's limited. If a lot of people end up preferring the legacy lasts our plan is to keep making those too for the people who want them.
These are welcome changes. I wonder if the Horween prices might have made them decide to not offer the natural CXL. Thursday seems committed to the $199, and CXL might have been impossible to keep that price.
We'd love to bring it back- the honest reason is because Horween is a relatively small tannery at the end of the day and Natural CXL is a time consuming leather to make. We were always stocking out and collaboratively decided it's best to offer Natural CXL on fewer styles until their CXL capacity increases. Still big fans of Horween and CXL!

I know some they do but in my opinion all there boots should be, with that being said this is actually good news for us ppl in that D or E width. Im a D width, i always had to go my normal size to get that width right but while doing so the length was slightly long.
Additional widths raise costs. They could do that but now it's a $299 boot instead. Higher production costs, storage, shipping logistics, etc. That's why AE changes so much more when the build quality may be slightly better but not 200% better as is reflected in the price.

To prove my point further, Thursday does offer some leather colors in a E,EE width with staying at the $199 price point. So they already have the wider width lasts. So the initial cost has been drained long ago.
We're going to test D, EE and EEE instead of a D and EE/EEE option for a few styles so more people have perfect fits. Rollout of the EE and EEE specific options coming early '24. If it goes well, we'll also test an E specific options as well. Thanks for the thought sir- seems like great boot minds think alike!
I’m a big fan of Thursday Boots. They’ve opened the door for so many people into the world of Goodyear welted boots. Which is a great thing. They know their market. Of course there are better boots, but for only $199 it is all the boot most people need. Most of us aren’t loggers, miners or firefighters so we don’t really need a PNW type boot. Unless you love that heritage cos-play thing that seems to be popular at the moment.

I wish they also change the last on the executive .it has a chisel toe which is not bad nor awesome in my opinion but I wanted a low budget, still reliable Goodyear welt black oxford in formal settings and bought it. I don’t wear them a lot but when I do I wish they still have a round shape before instead of the chisel, the leather hasn’t age well too. However the honey suede duke I got was better slightly and the suede age better. I stick to their boots which I think is their bread and butter. The Oxford I’ll keep for now until I find a better one. Maybe Allen Edmonds or other brands. Speaking of which they should do what AE does and sell their discontinued or factory 2nd so people who still want the older style can still have a chance.I’m done with Thursday for a while even though the new last might fit with my feet I already got what I need from them.
If I lookup the Thursday President Boots on their website now. The Saddlewood color does not look the same as yours. Do you know if they have changed the look recently?
I've never tried Thursday boots before, but am considering it now with this new wider last. I really dislike too narrow of a last and have gotten rid of boots in the past for that reason. On the Thursday website I don't see any designation for the Kingmaker last. Can I assume all President's and Captain's are now available with this last? I just want to be sure that I'm not buying a boot with the older, narrower last size.
Great changes that leans the President, Captain, Duke, and Legend more toward comfortable fit and styling more in line of a service boot. The original last was great but I was not a fan of how the original last of these boots were trying to be booth a casual boot and a dress boot on the same last. With styles the Cavalier, Rouge and The Wingtip designed for more tailored styles. The Thursday’s service boots and casual Chelsea can finally be what they are designed to be instead of being an attempt at a wear with anything from joggers to a suit! I’m sure they will move old stock over to Amazon and it will be hit or miss trying to order the new last from Amazon. Shipping from Thursday Boots directly is still fast in the contiguous 48. 😅

Not sure what you’re talking about. The new last is NARROWER not wider than the previous last. Just had to return a pair. Measured at the sole they were 1/4 inch narrower than my previous captains. I tried to ask them if there could have been a mislabel or defect but couldn’t get an answer from their customer service. BTW they also made the last waaaay longer .. so that combined with the narrower width mine looked like snow skis

They were so comfortable… this pair … same size .. I could barely get my foot in …and they were much longer .. had a couple inches from my toe to front of the shoe

The new king maker last is more narrow than the previous one but still a bit wider than the original version. Some of your commentary makes it sound like the newest last is wider than the previous one which it is not.
According to the documentation Thursday sent me, the Kingmaker has 1.5 mm more width in the toe box. I was able to confirm that with a tailor's tape measure. Maybe you're thinking of the True last? (The previous iteration)
@StrayReviews yes exactly I was comparing the king maker to the most recent last. The king maker is 1.5 mm wider than Thursdays very first version but the last just prior to the king maker was 3 mm wider than their very first version so the king maker sort of splits the difference between the 2. Basically they created the 2nd version wider bc people complained about some being too narrow then a lot of people didn't like the wider look so the king maker returns to a slimmer look while still being a bit wider and roomier than the first version

The replacement pair showed up with a tongue that was sewed in crooked. It rolled off of my instep. Thursday customer service recommended that I take the brand new boots to a cobbler and have the boot repaired. It was very difficult to get a refund. Thursday did not post my review. The last negative review I could find was posted in 2019. I reached out to Thursday management and never received a response. I then purchased a pair of White’s MP’s. We’ll worth the extra cost and six-month wait for the White’s.

We typically reach out to low star reviews to make sure we can help as best we can, but we do still post them with a lag (unless have profanity etc). For some reason I don't see any 1 star reviews on the Captain after 2019 on our site or on the backend, which I'm sure is incorrect...going to follow-up on this with our team/yotpo now. Too bad the new Kingmaker last doesn't seem to apply to their "wide" width which they advertise as EE-EEE equivalent. I just received a pair of 10W Presidents and there's no way they're even a true EE. I wear 10EEE Rockports and Redwings comfortably all day long but the 10W Presidents aren't even close to being wide enough. So, back they go for a refund. Disappointing!
I personally think that if all you can afford & you 100% need boots right now I guess those wouldn't be the absolute worst choice you could make, although personally for about $50-$100 more you could go with some better/sturdier quality boots that'll be guaranteed for 1 year to be free of errors due to craftsmanship & quality issues due to faulty construction (NOT NORMAL WEAR&TARE) from RedWing Boots which also offer free laces/cleaning of the boots if you take them into the store (at least the last time I went they still did this service but may NOT be available in your area just ask them...) And they offer to resole the boots for about 150ish dollars price may have changed. Although I would personally save up a few hundred more if possible & get some boots like "White's Boots" which are hand bottomed & lasted/welted by hand & some even completely handsewn right here in the U.S.A. by American's in America which even their least expensive boots offerings are an enormously better quality for not to much more ill be honest even beating some RedWing boots prices & just as good if NOT way better quality & well if you are buying for usage/mileage or getting a better bang for your buck in the long term save up a bit more spend less in the longevity of footwear if you can. I am in no way affiliated nor associated nor endorsed by RedWing or White's Boots in any manner whatsoever I am just a dude who's giving my own two cents from my own personal opinions/thoughts I'm NOT in anyway trying to market or discredit anyone or any company nor is my intention illwilled in anyway. I will say this I always thought it was funny when people say that such & such brand have a hard break-in time (diehard/redwing/wolverines/CAT/ect....) I never had any sort of hard/uncomfortable time breaking-in any boot/shoe before in my life some were more comfortable then others, until I got myself a pair of (Whites "Stockman") them boots took a bit for me to break them in. It was very much worth the the few days/first week(breakin times are different for everyone & every pair of boot/shoes) most comfortable boots now & they've been holding up better then I thought they would almost 2 years & being worn almost everyday all day&night walking working standing riding motorcycles & still got original soles. I believe they're worth their cost even as much as they are.

Look up Sawtooth lacing pattern. I’ve started to use that and the problem went away. It was a big help.

With the different lasts, it can get tricky. I recently picked up a pair of Captians in my normal size and really prefer the fit.

they still use horween natural CXL on the captain, premier, women's captain and horween leathers on other boots.
My biggest complaint against Thursday boots is that it takes away my other boot brand money. My RW collection is on hold because of Thursdays.😭🤣😂

I don't like the new last. The point of buying Thursday was the svelte appearance in a boot. Now they just look like any of the other boots out there.
I think they still provide form and function. But the real test comes when you pair them with several different outfits.

I don't know if they made any changes. However, they did move to a new factory recently. Maybe that had something to do with it?

The ones with rugged and resistant leather all have the new last. You might want to reach out to customer support about the others.
Wider base was much needed. I sold my Vanguards in 2019 because the boot was so narrow underfoot that I kept rolling my ankle.

Too bad the new Kingmaker last doesn't seem to apply to their "wide" width which they advertise as EE-EEE equivalent. I just received a pair of 10W Presidents and there's no way they're even a true EE. I wear 10EEE Rockports and Redwings comfortably all day long but the 10W Presidents aren't even close to being wide enough. So, back they go for a refund. Disappointing!

I personally think that if all you can afford & you 100% need boots right now I guess those wouldn't be the absolute worst choice you could make, although personally for about $50-$100 more you could go with some better/sturdier quality boots that'll be guaranteed for 1 year to be free of errors due to craftsmanship & quality issues due to faulty construction (NOT NORMAL WEAR&TARE) from RedWing Boots which also offer free laces/cleaning of the boots if you take them into the store (at least the last time I went they still did this service but may NOT be available in your area just ask them...) And they offer to resole the boots for about 150ish dollars price may have changed. Although I would personally save up a few hundred more if possible & get some boots like "White's Boots" which are hand bottomed & lasted/welted by hand & some even completely handsewn right here in the U.S.A. by American's in America which even their least expensive boots offerings are an enormously better quality for not to much more ill be honest even beating some RedWing boots prices & just as good if NOT way better quality & well if you are buying for usage/mileage or getting a better bang for your buck in the long term save up a bit more spend less in the longevity of footwear if you can. I am in no way affiliated nor associated nor endorsed by RedWing or White's Boots in any manner whatsoever I am just a dude who's giving my own two cents from my own personal opinions/thoughts I'm NOT in anyway trying to market or discredit anyone or any company nor is my intention illwilled in anyway. My apologies if anyone believes otherwise. I did enjoy your video though & the manner it was done I'll subscribe to ya & I won't make a habit outta long comments like this.

@@StrayReviews They honestly are honestly the best boots I've personally owned thus far. I will say this I always thought it was funny when people say that such & such brand have a hard break-in time (diehard/redwing/wolverines/CAT/ect....) I never had any sort of hard/uncomfortable time breaking-in any boot/shoe before in my life some were more comfortable then others, until I got myself a pair of (Whites "Stockman") them boots took a bit for me to break them in. It was very much worth the the few days/first week(breakin times are different for everyone & every pair of boot/shoes) most comfortable boots now & they've been holding up better then I thought they would almost 2 years & being worn almost everyday all day&night walking working standing riding motorcycles & still got original soles. I believe they're worth their cost even as much as they are.
