I always say that I love all my boots for different reasons. From Alden, White’s, and Trickers, to the Red Wing, Truman, and Grant Stone, all the way to my Dievier and Thursday, they serve a particular purpose in my collection.
The Thursday Diplomat and Captain are some of my most comfy boots. I am not at the entry-level of boot collecting, nor am I in my 20s 😅, but I would be more than happy to keep getting Thursday Boots; and now that they offer this new Kinmaker last, I am more interested.

I own two Thursday boots, one Vanguard(Horween Color #8) and one Legend(Tobacco). I'll wait my current brown leather shoes to wear out and replace them with Captain in Brandy(I think they are nice with formal dressing for office work).

Nice review. I just bought a pair of Captains in Horween Chromexel natural. I think some of your critiques are resolved with this particular model. The leather smells amazing, more old world than new, and the traditional sole seems has a more bespoke quality than the RR outsoles.
Oh this now may make me go back to try the Thursday boot again - it destroy my heel when i ordered a 10.5 Titan (now Hero) from em that I returned it. Got a size 11 Chelsea from em which I cant imagine woudl fit as a 10.5 but the fact that they addressed the heel concerns that folks had is a win in my books. Still debating - torn between Red Wing Blacksmith, Schotts NYC Service Boot and Wolverine 1000 Mile - unfort Grant Stone and Beckett Simonon do no ship to Canada and the ones I mentioned are the ones that I can get a hold of in my size/budget. Any other suggestions always welcomed.

I would love this exact book, but gusseted so that I could walk thru some puddles, because it rains so much here, and parking lots flood quickly. Any sugestions?

Interesting comments about the leather.
Owning a couple of pairs of Vibergs myself as well as numerous Thursday Captains, Presidents, Vanguards, Diplomats(and much in between from Carmina, C&J, Grant Stone, RedWing, Trickers, Barkers, Loake, Cheaney etc.) I think you're making much more of any leather differences than are justified though obviously Viberg clicking is better (as it should be).
Thursday do use Horween Natural Chromexcel for one of their Captain boots plus they also use several colours of Horween Chromexcel for their US made Vanguard boots at 265 usd.
In addition I have stacked leather heels in all my Dainite (equivalent) soled Captain and President boots. It is only the StormKing soles that have a rubber heel.
You can see a tear down of the Captain boot by Trenton and Heath that shows how they're built.
Their dressier calf leathers usually have poorer quality than more expensive brands but for heavily processed leathers like CXL and many of the sanded/nubuck leathers are pretty good and their QC is now as good or better than many other brands.
Personally I would actually think the mocha suede chukka boot would be better in the professional world in an office but that's just my opinion. Also I do feel this boot the captain with the Storm King sole is too aggressive to work with a suit, again just my opinion. But hey rock it!!
I wear an US 8.5 in almost all shoes except athletic shoes, like Nike and New Balance where I wear a US 10.5. With this wide gap I'm not sure what size to get. You wear 8.5 in the boots, how does that compare to other shoes you have?

Yes you took a chance trying to help out thursdays , I think the company means we'll, and what they should do is have 2 or 3 lines of price brackets , this way they can make better outs say over 300 and as low as 200. Those boots fit the 200.

A couple notes:
1. You can get the Captains in Horween Natural Chromexcel if that’s what you’re looking for. The pair you have is part of the “rugged and resilient” line of leathers, which is specifically designed to look good and hold up to little to no conditioning or care over its lifetime. Their smooth leathers, even the lefarc tannery smooth leathers, feel much more premium.
2. Your pair uses the stormking outsole. Thursday makes plenty of models of captains with a studded rubber outsole that use a stacked leather heel.
3. While relatively versatile, lug soles don’t really fit-in at the office or in business casual or higher dress codes. Now-a-days, nobody will likely call you out on it, but it is generally good to know the rules so that you only break them intentionally.

I just ordered a pair of Captains in a brown suede. I like that they changed the last... I don't like the pointy-toe look too much. I like the look of my Iron Rangers. We'll see how well I like them when they come in. (Bought yesterday, they are including a "free gift", so I oped for the suede brush and eraser)
That cuffing Jean look appears flawed to me.
I think there's not a lot to say that 80 million other reviews already exist for the Captain boot. I didn't quite like the look of them, but they were about all that was available in my size at the time on AMZN, so I tried them and I liked the fit better than I thought I would. If they have changed the last, then I guess it's fair to say I will not like the new fit as well. I preferred the look of the President but they don't fit quite the same and some of their other boots are strictly more overpriced for the quality.
I watched a video about the Vanguards that explained to me why there was no reason to ever buy those, and a lot of Red Wings seem to fall in the same category. I mostly looked into Truman because of your vids, I guess, so I shall have my hands full this autumn trying to do some accurate comparisons or whatever.
Maybe I'll try the new Prez ones once I wear out three other pairs or something? We'll see. Captain will still have that fake cap toe that is pretty much my deal breaker for looks when it serves no extra function.
If by More Comfort they mean that they FIT BIGGER, then I know they will all run too big and my feet will be sloshing around inside them worse than they already do.
They have a Customer Service Team? I could never get anybody on the phone and had to order some pairs on AMZN because their website was down for the entire holiday season last year.
just FYI, most cap toes are not an extra layer of leather, whether you're at the $100 or $1,000 level. if you're using high quality leather and your construction is quality and consistent, this extra leather should not matter unless you're literally a wildland firefighter or something.@@Highland_Paddy i don't think that a double layered cap toe is any kind of indication of quality at any level.
I think the boots look cool and I bought a pair of black captains for dress casual in the winter that I will wear with dress pants. But the rolled up jeans style looks soo.. ridiculous. Kinda girly and almost seems like a liberal california look. Manly but elegant at the same time, lol. Prolly the only thursday boots in will buy. I'm a Allen Edmonds guy and I still think they are way... better and the quality is 10 times better. I just bought these to hold me off until the Allen edmonds I want come back in stock. Then these will become my bonfire marshmallow, pie, ashes covered boots. Buy Allen Edmonds they are the best!
Are these targeted to young men exclusively?
seems like that is their biggest market because I can think of few working men who would have much use for these.

No, they are just meant to be a everyday boot that is comfortable out of the box, good quality for a good price, they're not work boots, they're not dress boots, they are good boots that are versatile in looks and application.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, it does not mean it's walmart tier "genuine leather" or something like that, it just means it's not meticulously combination tanned or veg tanned, it's still high quality leather that you would find used in items at 2,3 times the cost, it's just not a leather that would excite a leather nerd in anyway.

Higher SPI on thick veg-tan outsoles, insoles or welts really shouldn't weaken the leather all that much. Regular veg-tan leather under 6oz might tear if it has Viberg-level SPI but that's shouldn't be used for soles or welts anyway. If you have a high SPI on an oak-tanned outsole or insoles from the bends of the hide there is no way that is tearing even from regular wear. That grain is just too tight and the leather is too rigid/thick. Try taking one of your thick veg-tan leather insoles and give it Viberg-level SPI holes then try to tear it. No way it's going to budge. I just don't think the lower SPI being better for sole integrity is good rationale for the choice. It really just comes down to cost savings on their end.

Love your reviews . Ok I have to say , as you read , thursdays mention other companies charging much more ? Lol , yes because top to bottom the built and quality thursdays can't match , 2nd , what does rugged leather mean? Doesn't say what leather is used , and if its from a tannery that has same leather like grant stone then those companies must be selling a cheaper version of it. Looking at those boots it looks ok , but it really has no spark , leather looks cheap , so it a pass for me ..Good work on video though.

When Thursday makes the inner soul leather (ok to increase the price) I will show up and buy one of ever color in the Captain. Thursday should consider moving away from MAN MADE parts to cut cost. Raise the price and offer a more premium line with NATURAL products.
That's what makes Thursday Thursday and at the price point when you wear them out you can do that upgrade materials or I hope I'm not out of line saying treat them like timberlands and get a new pair jmho
I mean I understand that some folks feel strongly about insole being leather vs synthetic, but I think to say using poron in the insole is cost cutting is missing the point. Thursday's business model is catered towards a somewhat more "sneaker-like" feel out of the box and the shock absorption of poron is a big part of that. I don't think it was ever a cost cutting measure primarily, that's simply what they want to offer on their products.
@@jonathansandberg5219 Plus, one of their founders confirmed that that's not only for comfort, but the Pouron inserts don't cost any less than veg-tan leather.
You seem quite happy to have synthetic soles for your boots. If you want to be traditional you should only use leather soles. Plus you should not use speed hooks which are a modern invention and of course you should only buy veg tanned leather boots.
While you are at it you can show me the evidence that natural products are better than "man made" in boots. Plus you'll have to define "man made" because the last time I looked all boots, all leather and all the parts for boots were "man made".
There is nothing automatically superior about "natural" products and you'll no doubt be surprised to know that runners run thousands of miles in "man-made" shoes which contain foams like poron. Whereas cork and leather can fail much before that and rot if they get too much moisture.
Leather is a good material for boot uppers but to automatically assume that natural is good and "man made" is bad is simply not true.
Most,modern materials were developed because they are superior to the traditional materials and we use synthetic alternatives in thousands of products for that reason (example. try using natural rubber tyres on your car and tell me how you get on)

The "Norwegian split toe" boots? More than likely, they're Grant Stone Ottawas. They might not be black but one of many dark brown leathers they have.

They cant be ottawas as they don't have the two split. they have the decretive stitching on the toe cap like oak street bootmakers and look like they may be teacore.if you are looking at the screen they are i guess 3 spots over to the right. two spots above his cocktail.

I wore 4 different pairs of Captains and always was pretty disapointed. If Thursday would not make such a big deal out of their supposedly value it would not be that bad.
But after 4 pairs I really started disliking the fact that they always tell the people that their boots are worth far more money and all that

when clearly they are NOT doing this AT ALL.
Captains are ok for the price but you absolutely get what you pay for - NOT MORE.
Leather quality in Captains can be trash if you buy the wrong pair.(It is incredible HOW poorley this black matte leather is looking after two months of daily wear).
Comfort, after some months of wear, is getting pretty fast worse every day.
And durability wise there is simply no comparisson to a 600$ boot.
In this context I find it very funny that they finally start talking about their soles coming of at the front after one week of wear.

I noticed that you’re gaining a little bit of weight. We all do it in middle-age. These tight fitting T-shirts and jeans that you’re wearing, and Jean jackets, are going to be too tight before you know it.
You either have to cut the carbs or succumb to all these clothes that will not fit.
