what i appreciate about Thursday boots is that they've been able to keep their prices stable over the past several years, as well as excellent customer service. Not sure how they've managed to do both of those because nearly every other company in every industry has struggled with both of these things lately.
My assumption would be that they are accepting a lower profit margin and aiming for more volume on their footwear. Also, they try to cross sell on other items like socks, belts etc that have a higher margin. A belt costs $80, which is 40% of the cost of a boot. I guess there is more margin there.
There's definitely a lot of cost cutting going on in the background but in a good way. Streamlining suppliers, manufacturing processes, etc. reduce cost without reducing quality.
Glad Thursday remains true to Brannock. It’s baffling that there is a widely accepted standard measure device and most companies choose to ignore it and make their boots whatever size they want
The Vanguard runs large. I measure a 9 on Brannock device. I ordered a 9D, and had to return it because it was too long and the heel was extremely tall.
Owning 17 pairs of Thursday and having a foot that has a narrow heel and midfoot and spreading toes I have found that the half size down applies to the Captain, Cadet and President if you wear thin socks but go regular size if you want to wear thicker socks. For Vanguard and Diplomat go regular size even for thin socks. And go at least a half size larger and consider a full size larger for their sneakers unless your toes are quite narrow, as their toe box is even narrower than my other "premium" leather sneakers.
@@mogroot5790 30 cm, 12 UK. Thursday seem to have a 0.5 difference between US and UK sizes rather than the 1 size that some other brands use. As they recommend sizing down 0.5, I selected 12 US for my original Captain and President models. For later models I decided to buy 12.5 US as these were models I wanted to use more in winter with my hiking socks. My first pair of Vanguards were size 12 US but they have less room than the Captains in the toe box so I only wear dress socks with them and went up to 12.5 US for my next pair. The Diplomats I just bought 12.5 US. Their sneakers I bought size 13 US and they were still too tight and I ended up giving them away and bought 13.5 US which are still snug and only for use with thin socks.
I wish I had seen this before importing a pair of Captains to the UK. My Darn Tough full cushion boot socks really are going to last a lifetime. Because I can't fucking wear them.
Bought a pair of Thursday’s a year ago. Loved everything about the boots from unboxing/packaging, the finishing and most of all the value I was getting. Only issue was my pinky toe was rubbing on my right foot only so I returned them no hassle. This Kingmaker last seems like they solved that issue. Definitely giving Thursday another shot once they expand out more articles in the last. Excellent video!!!
I usually wear a 9 and 1/2 in athletic shoes, so I ordered the cavalier in a 9 and the fit is perfect. The boot is plenty wide and doesn't restrict my foot at all. I love the fact that my toes have a little bit of "wiggle" room. After a few weeks they have softened and worn into the shape of my foot. They're the most comfortable shoes I have.
I normally wear a 9 in almost every sneaker. But I went down to an 8 for the rugged resilient captain and I have a 7.5 for the classic line captain. I must have skinny ankles because that's why I sized down so much and I like a snugger fit. But now I have the sizes that fit how I like so I'm happy, though it took a lot of tries. The 8 for rugged and resilient and 7.5 for the classic line fit the same though they're different sizes, could be cause of the different lasts that they use
I ordered my first pair from Thursday (Captain) not long ago. I'm a Brannock 10-1/2 D (perhaps 10-5/8 D - if this were a thing) and downsized to 10D like every mentioned. Well, they weren't tight, per se, but I felt my toes didn't have any breathing/wiggle room. I know guys who loves their boots super-snug and go through an uncomfortable period breaking them in...that's not me. Anyway, my the 10.5 fit just perfectly. I don't have flat feet, but I do have a lower than average arch...so I wear these my Captain book with a nice full-thick sock to get the best fit. Helm Boots - Brannock works fine; Grant Stone - don't hesitate downsizing 1/2 size...their heritage boots fit just fine downsized 1/2 with full socks...their Moc Toc length is fine downsized 1/2, but I have a low arch (too much room atop the foot) but an insole resolved it instead of downsizing and crushing my toes. As for the Thursday (Captain and President) my experience is they're kind of in between downsizing 1/2 size. If you're like me where you're measure slightly fuller than your brannock size (e.g., 10.6-10.7 and wear a 10.5) and like room in your toes, I'd recommend downsizing because they were too short. Your mileage may vary.
just give oofficial measurement in inches and cm both length and width. My Captains EE 9US is 27.5cm (10.82 inches), my feet is 26.5cm (10.43 inches). should go for 8.5 US probably since they stretch a lil (3 months). hope it helps
Oddly, I wear a size 12.5-13 in most sneakers, but I wear a 12 in Thursday boots and 13 in their sneakers. The 12 is always slightly snug at first, but the 12.5 just seems too loose. I've only recently learned about their different lasts. The "dress boot" last definitely runs more narrow and is almost too snug. However, if I go up to a 12.5 they feel like they are too big everywhere except for the width. Boot sizing gives me a headache. Thankfully, most boot companies don't give you an option for 12.5, so I have to get used to 12 anyways.
I appreciate the video, and fit is everything. Providing a little extra width is a big help. I understand Thursday’s advice, but I think sizing vs Brannock is more predictable than “sneaker” width, because of the variation in how brands size, even within brands. I am a 13 in OG Adidas and Puma, but I take 12 in Thursday, 12 in Red Wing 23 last, 11.5 in Red Wing 8 last. Most companies don’t make a 12.5. Thursday does, yet I’m a 12 in Thursday…
I feel less alone... I am the exact same way. 13 in Adidas Superstar Originals, 13 in Vans, 13 in Thursday Sneakers...... 12 in Thursday boots. Also, a 12 in Danner boots. My only issue has come in narrower Thursdays. The 12 is a little more snug than I'd like, but the 12.5 is oddly too big everywhere else. My matte black Captains and black Cadets are both 12. But for some reason, the tobacco and mocha color on the cadets is made with the "dress" boot last which is much more narrow.
I ordered a half size down like everyone, including Thursday, recommended. Too tight. "they break in, just wear them!" I wore them. Still too tight. I contacted Thursday to get a replacement size and now they say I can't.....because I wore them. Wtf. So now I have expensive boots that I can't wear because I followed instructions against my better judgement.
Half size down is too tight for real. I had the same experience followed their instructions. I don’t understand why they can’t put a chart like showing mm or inches of your foot width and length, that would make things easier.
I typically were 10.5 in most running shoes (rarely 11), but ended up having to size down a whole size to 9.5. My feet are quite narrow, so I imagine that has a big effect on it
Perfectly explained but i wish Thursday had more stores where I can just try evrything for a while and make my boots purchase decisions. Use always use to buy footwear online and it was never been a problem for me size and fit wise but Recently i developed a bunion toe kinda thing in my left toe (post an reactive arthritis attack) due to which perfect fit shoe buying became a tough task for me. I mean my right foot is still like…it doesn’t matter if i wear 8 or 8.5 Medium or wide but yeah left is not longer comfortable in medium 8 and 8.5. Also the making leather color decision is also tough online vs real.
Well the price has to go up with retail stores. Defeats the whole purpose of their low cost model. You can always order and try, they have a good return policy
boot sizing is freaking brutal. i have grant stones in size 10 that i should have gotten in a 9 1/2, i have Trumans in a 10 that should have been 10 1/2 and Thursdays in 10 1/2 that should have been a 10. they lie about sizing down from sneakers. i wear a 11 in Nike/Salomon and 10 1/2 in adidas/Hoka. and you can't use your Brannock size. i swear they do this on purpose.
I’m usually a 10-10.5E in sneakers. I get away with a 10 with TB. Their “true” last killed my pinky toes. The Nirvana was great but they killed it because people cried about the round shape when looking straight down (why are you all watching your feet all day?) I have a pair of R&R captains in the new Kingmaker last and it’s about perfect and I like the fit, 10 standard kingmaker is great and if you’re an E it should be fine.
I bought a pair of vanguards 2 months ago. Every video on thursday Id seen said to size down a half and I am a 10. Instead of going with a 9.5 I tried on a 9 because that’s what I wear for my Iron Rangers. Luckily I was visiting a friend in NYC and could go to Thursdays store. The 9 was a bit hard to get used to because of the slimmer profile compared to the Iron Rangers, but after some wear I have no problems.
2:20 - Okay this is all checking out. In a Brannock device I am 10.5 (D). My Chukka Vans are 11. My Nike "flex show tr3 msl" things are also 11. So a half size down from that 11, is indeed my Brannock result of 10.5 Interestingly my Vans (and New Rock boots) are 45 in EU sizing, but my Nikes are 44.5 EU. They're FAR older, so maybe newer Nikes would say 45 EU now perhaps. 6:30 - That sounds great for me, having a little extra room for the pinky toe there. I have new Vans, and my pinky toe is the pressure point. My older Vans have stretched out sideways to accommodate that (easier for sneaker material to stretch). 7:00 - The heel is getting kinda tallll, god damn lol. Getting a little chunky like slight platform shoes. The older ones on the left have the brown middle bit of leather for the heel, and that MAYBE makes it look less chunky due to it being broken up. Hard to know for sure since it just is less chunky. I want matte black boots, so the heel would be all black there anyway. Very helpful video!
I'm a 13 wide size. I tried to purchase the black vachetta sneakers. The black matte sneakers come in a wide size but not the vachetta. They said to just go up a size. Of course, that didn't work. Just because the sneaker got longer doesn't mean that it got wider. If that actually worked, why would they offer a wide size in the other model? I wish that they would just be honest like other companies, like Arigato, and just say that they don't offer wide sizes in that model rather than trying to cram our feet into an ill fitting pair of sneakers to make a buck.
I just ordered these. Half size down was accurate for me. I’m a 10.5 usually and 10 fit great, maybe even slightly roomy. I could probably get away with 9.5, but I think that might get too snug. Feet tend to swell up after a lot of walking, so I think these will be great.
I'm on my third pair of Thursday Captains. I found a half size down from my usual and selecting the wide was goldilocks. Not normally a wide, but toes were really getting pinched.
Thanks to you both, that was very helpful. I especially appreciate the "thumb-width" demonstration. Although I may be sending back the Thursday boots I'm waiting for (ha ha). I inquired at Thursday because I have a pair of the Captain classics in dark olive (love them), and they told me it used the "Encore" last. Then I ordered a Rugged and Resilient Captain in Safari from Amazon, but in the notes it said it was the RT3 last (an older one from my understanding). So, I canceled those and ordered the same thing from Thursday, who said it was now the KIngmaker last. I ordered them in the same size of my other Captains (classic with Encore last) ..........in short, I have no idea what to expect. I'm hoping they will be ok, but am worried I may be sending them back, and shipping (though free, to be fair) is not very fast. So I may be without them for several more weeks. Bummer. But I think I will love them once I get it right. Many thanks again.
I’m trying to decide if i should keep these or exchange them. They fit well and don’t slip or anything but I do have a good amount of room between my toe and the end of the boot. I’m worried there will be even more room when they break in.
Im a little confused. On Thursdays website it says the classic captains dont use the new kingmaker last, but when you're comparing at 6:48 you show the classic captain (the leather used is only available on the classic line) as your example of the Kingmaker vs the "old last" (i think your referring to the RT3?) Im trying to work out how the kingmaker (on the rugged line) fits vs the encore (on the classic line) as i much prefer the leather options on the classic line.
I tried my first Thursday boot the other day, I got my usual size, but found my heel was really pressing into the back of the boot, to the point it was getting painful. I guess I'll have to try a size up. It's a shame there are so few options on Amazon (which is the best way to get Thursday boots in the UK as there's no shipping costs and free/easy returns)
I wear a 12 brooks ghost sneakers. I have 12 in cavalier (2020), matte captain (2021) and scout (2023). All fit great so I didn’t need to size down. Love the boots. Scout brown definitely need a different lace imo. The laces choice is bad. I had to switch laces but still would like a manufacturer recommendation.
I'm a little confused Nick. From what Nolan say's the Rugged and Resilient range now on the new King Maker last is slightly wider and rounder than the Classic Captain. Then he say's that the Classic Captain is slightly roomier than the Rugged and Resilient range. Which is the wider and rounder? Or is he getting King Maker and Storm King mixed up? Regards
Every time I read "half size down from your sneaker," I have to wonder if I'm the only person in Earth who has a different sneaker size for every brand. I think it's just asinine for an online company not to speak in terms of Brannock device size or something else similarly objective. This interview is the first time I've seen anyone at Thursday seem to even _acknowledge_ the Brannock.
Last year I ordered 10.5 captains in Arizona adobe. My left boot was uncomfortably 9:09 tight and the right was very snug. I went with the Wide option and loved the fit. Shortly after I ordered the matte black captains (also 10.5 wide) Today I just got my 3rd pair 10.5 brandy captains and I accidentally ordered the standard size and they fit nicely. I was worried I would have to send them back for the wide but I’m good to go!
“Take advantage of the free exchanges and returns” lol… My exchange process was ridiculous. The lady wanted pretty much everything except for my first born for what should have been a simple exchange. Picture of my invoice, the box, the packing material, the boots from like three different angles, and whatever else. I literally got the boots and the color didn’t match the description so I wanted them exchanged and she managed to drag it out for a week and a half before I told her I wasn’t sending anymore pictures and she either sent the exchange or needed to process a refund and then asked to have a manager handle it. Ironically she then processed the exchange the same day.
I just bought the Captain on Amazon. The recommendation was a 9.5 but I ordered a 10 since most of my boots are size 10. It worked out well. The only thing I don't like is the insole not being removable.
Nick, this video couldn’t have been more timely! I just received a new pair of Thursdays Captains. I am very impressed with their craftsmanship. In terms of fit, will the toe box expand vertically once they break in? I am experiencing a slight pinch on the top of my big toe, which is almost bothersome when I am seated. These are a size 13.5. I already tried a size 13 (too small in the toe box) and a size 14 (overall too big). Would it help to break them in using thick socks? I am fearful of not being able to return them. Thanks!
Another good one Nick.... Saw you on Steve's (Bedo's) video at the Boot Camp in NYC... All the boot aficionados there, really cool.... P.S. really loving the new Aldens and I can't believe how comfortable they are right out of the box...! Thanks for your advice and great videos.... Greg
I just got 2 pairs of Thursdays boots. One in size 11 and one in 10.5 My natural size in thursday boot is 10.5 but I need to wear orthotic insoles. So I'm in the process of doing an experiment. In one pair, size 10.5, I ripped out the none removable insoles and put in the orthotics. For the size 11, I put the orthotics on top of the original insoles. Will be a few months until I find out the long term effects on my joints for each method.
I wear a size 12d in most shoes and boots. I was sized by Redwing, and by Nicks boots. This is further verified by a Brannok device, and by the fact that I've been wearing the size comfortably for many years with no issues. So, that out of the way... I tried going a 1/2 size down in Thursdays, and they were WAY too small, like painful to wear. I tried my actual size (12) in Thursdays, and they fit great. I don't understand where or why the "size down" narrative started, but I have never had it work, in any brand.
Painful in what way though? was the length correct? or are you instead talking about getting relief from a size up due to the now increased width of the boot?
@@Pharto_Stinkus - People are all over the place with this. It's a very strange thing. So many people find that going with their Brannock size to be perfect, as they should (including the co-founder in the video for his own feet), but then others find that their toes are somehow crushed when they do that. The fellow on the left who owns the channel does an 11 in Red Wing, but is an 11.5 in Thursdays. He did say "often" and "a lot of", since not all the boots fit the same, which is something to look out for. Edit: I actually just got an email back from the company, and interestingly they said: Thank you for contacting Thursday Boot Company! I'm here to assist you.
For our men’s leather boots and dress shoes, we typically recommend ordering the same size you wear in other high-quality leather boots or dress shoes. Considering the information you provided about your Chukka Vans, I’d recommend a size 11 U.S. for your Black Matte Captain boots.
Keep in mind that, based on what works for most of our customers, I'd suggest using the "Find My Size" feature on our site for a sizing recommendation when viewing the particular footwear you're interested in. If you're looking at more than one style or color, please be sure to repeat the procedure, as there may be slight sizing variations based on the last.
We'd also like to let you know that the transition for the Kingmaker last was successfully completed in August. All RT3 Captain pairs have been replaced since then. You can rest assured that your Black Matte Captain will have the Kingmaker last.
I hope this helps, and we appreciate your interest!
Wait never mind, the same person replied to my reply: Thanks for getting back to us and for the additional information!
Our boots are meant to be snug at first since natural leather will stretch to form your feet over time. Keep in mind they should be snug, but not uncomfortable. Durable leathers can occasionally take more than a few wears to break in. The upshot is that once the leather flexes and your foot adapts, you've got something durable enough to last for years.
We recommend ordering ½ size smaller than you normally wear in sneakers since leather boots tend to soften and conform to the feet over time while sneakers generally stay the same with wear. Since you've clarified that your Chukka Vans were sneakers, I’d recommend a size 10.5 US to ensure a perfect fit for your boots.
I just ordered and returned my Thursday boots (Hero). They suggested to go half size down in their website but I went with my TTS (US 9.5) because I know I have a wide feet. Unfortunately, it's super tight. Literally crushing my toes, barely got my foot inside. It's not "snug", it's literally painful. I didn't exchange it for a size 10 because it would look so long. Shame, but nonetheless the Hero looks really good.
I just don't understand why they don't create/use a wider toe box similar to a munson last. These narrow toe box lasts are LITERALLY foot binding. I had to have surgery because of them.
It's interesting what Nolan says. I am 9.5 on Brannock, wear 9 in AE 5 lasts, wear 9 in AE Higgins Mills, wear 9 in Greats Royale, 10 in Brooks running shoes and 8.5 in Thursday Captain.
I hope the boots stretch more than tye sneakers. Mine were incredibly tight around the base of the toes and after 2 months of regular wear still hadn't improved. I had to sell them.
I wasn't aware I was supposed to size down with the Storm Captain Boots I purchased and though they feel fine now I'm afraid they will get too loose in time. I've been wearing them four days a week for a few months now and they still feel good, slightly, very slightly roomy but not bad. If I order Chelsea's I may size down as they don't have laces to snug them up.
I have wide ninja turtle feet but I ordered my regular size 10 1/2 in the standard width classic captain brandy and they are perfect couldn't be happier.
Boot to sneaker sizing is weird. So im a 7.5d brannock. I tend to go size 7 for my boots and 8.5 in Sneakers. I only really wear darn tough socks. Mad comfy. I bought thursday vanguard size 7 and an White mp sherman 7c. Both are snug but its just the lack of ability to wiggle my toes. Which kinda annoys me. Also one foot has a slightly higher arch than the other.
I do wish that they would do the goodyear welting on the women's boots as well. I love the women's styles but not having the option of re-soling them is definitely buying deterrent for me
Real men real styled promot this brand. Back in 2018. I got a pair and it's still as good ish. Highly recommend. Now I'm old now. I mainly got the boot for utility and style. But it's still worth it. It was first gen captain toe with light brown. I think it was called toffee. Whatever was it. I accidentally used dark brown for polishing dye. Now it looks like dark coffee. Haha I did buy a brown seanker last fall. It's nice. Very impressived with the Thursday. I been recommending to my peers ever since .
Hi Nick. As someone who wears UK boots and never wears sneakers what size would you recommend me to wearing Thursday boots? I'm an 8.5 in most UK boots like Herring, Loake etc. I really like their bots - and their prices. Even though I awed suits I think the Captains in a nice dark leather would go nicely.
I also had this problem when deciding to order a pair of Thursdays. I wear an 8.5 UK in most of my shoes and was predominantly wearing Timberlands. After some back and forthing I went for a Captain in size 9 off their website. It is slightly loose as the leather has softened although perfectly wearable for me when tied tightly. The next pair I order from them will be an 8.5 as I think once it stretches and softens it will be a better fit than the 9. Just my experience but hope this helps.
I ordered the high top sneakers in my usual size as they say on their website and they were too tight. I returned for half a size up and they fit better but a tad loose. I want to try their boots, which they say go half size down, but naw, I'll try my regular size then.
I have yet to pull the trigger on purchasing the Thursday Captain because their sizing guidelines are just crazy. I don't wear "sneakers". Can't they just say "true to size"?
I caution this take on 1/2 size down unless their kingsmaker last changes things - im a size 10.5 normal shoe size. I ordered 10.5 and my heels got destroyed as back part of the boot curved into the heel itself so to speak (Titan/Hero). I snagged a size 11 Chelsea and that fits just fine. My Daytons on the other hand, I have a size 10 and no issues other than traditional break in pains.
Idk about the sizing with regard to the sneaker . I ordered my regular sneaker size and my toes were jammed . Need to actually go a size up . In the Captain if they have wide sizes that would probably be an option in my regular size . Their “D” width shoes seem a little narrower
I just finished the online return process with Thursday boots… I honestly can’t believe I’m on my fourth pair because you guys have the worst QC team I have ever seen in my life. I have pictures with the QC personal signature to prove it if you all need it. Leather arrives damaged and sliced for some strange reason. Also the stitching on the boots is a hit or miss. And let me not forget the outsole comes with holes!!! Yes HOLES!!! Order at your own risk.
There is no way I could ever buy shoes without trying them on. I often have to try 2-3 size with combinations before I can determine if their shoe/boots will even fit my feet
Every time I read "half size down from your sneaker," I have to wonder if I'm the only person in Earth who has a different sneaker size for every brand. I think it's just asinine for an online company not to speak in terms of Brannock device size or something else similarly objective. This interview is the first time I've seen anyone at Thursday seem to even _acknowledge_ the Brannock device's existence.
Love Thursday but size guides aren't helpful with their inconsistent sizing. 3 pairs of boots from them, all the same size. One is very tight, another is extremely big, really wide and really long even with an added insole and tongue pad, last fits perfectly like it was made for me
Agreed! I did the Captain and the Rugged Captain… got 9 and 8.5. In all, I think I ordered and exchanged at least 7 pairs as the first was 1/2 size down and I was wincing on my right foot. Ordered a 9 for 1/2 size up and fit like a super loose latex glove that was all tight at the wrist. Had to return 3 pairs as the front soul separated from the upper leather. Unfortunately, they came like that. Bummer. In all, I ended up with pairs that were a 1/2 smaller but fit the same or larger than the size up. I gave up after the 7th pair. I own two I will have to sell. I wear an 8 in Iron Ranger so I made do 1 more Thursday in an 8. Just hope it’s finally snug vs. odd fitting.
Does anyone know if the Captains fit wider or narrower at the ball of the foot as compared to the iron ranger? I Have an issue with the IRs in that they 10d is too narrow at the ball of the foot (by a lot) and the 9.5 EE is too wide at the ankle. I was wondering if the Thursdays are going to be the same way.
It would be nice if you included women's boots. My wife is ordering a pair of Thursday's. Also, you may be missing out on good way to grow your channel. In my opinion of course. For me, I found it very informative.
I have a bunch of women's reviews on the site but I think it's mess up the brand a bit doing a bunch of women's stuff on this channel. Women on Thursday boots order their usual size! stridewise.com/category/womens-boots
I had a pair of the captains in a size 5. They fit well when I went to get a new pair in a 5.5 they fit smaller than my size 5 pair I had to jump from a size 5 to a 6 not sure why there was a difference in sizes for the same boot.
I feel they are problem for narrow feet. Im not shure about new last but i went through 2 pairs of witch i had one return (that makes 3 pairs that went through my hands) of different sizes and gave up. As person in europe free returns are not a thing, they end up 50e. I appreciate how friendly they're customer support is but it just doesn't work for me
Yeah the “just go a half size down from your sneaker size” thing is the most non answer he could give. Sneaker sizing is even more inconsistent than boot sizing so that just telling someone a half size smaller than sneaker size is completely useless
Hmm, I went for a 10 because my Converse size was a 10.5 but my Brannock sizing is dead-on 10.5 iirc. Maybe I was just meant to get the 10.5. Will find out shortly, I guess.
@@victorlinge92 The 10s definitely fit better. I have a very narrow instep and I think a half size down is what helped there. If the last wasn't already very roomy in a 'standard width' I could see them being a bit tight in the front but they fit great. Haven't worn them much yet though
That “New” Captain in the video honestly looked like the Nirvana last and not the new Kingmaker Last. The two different boots shown seemed drastically different like when the nirvana came out for its short stint. Any other images I’ve seen between the old last and the new kingmaker last seem much more similar than that drastic difference shown here. I’m once again confused with Thursday.
The Brandy colored boot with the new kingmaker last looked like the correct one. But when they showed the rugged and resilient boot side by side the new one really looked like the nirvana.
"Sneaker size" is a bad metric as every manufacturer's shoes fit differently. Why not give some examples like a Converse Chuck Taylor or a Nike Jordan (common shoes but a size 10 converse is much larger than a size 10 Nike)?
I don’t understand why a boot manufacturer needs to write to size up or down. If you usually wear 7,5 why should you go with a 7 ? Shouldn’t they just label the size as 7. Its like ordering a 12 in pizza and the waiter says you should order the 14 in since its really 12 in.
Thursday’s sizing is all over the place. I have their boots in 11.5, 11, and 12, all with very similar fit. It’s my biggest frustration with them. Well that, and I’ve seen many quality control issues over the last few years. IMO, if someone exchanges a pair of boots for a blatant QC problem, they should offer free expedited shipping on the next pair. I live in a remote area and so shipping times already take 1-3 days longer than the estimates. It just adds insult to injury when you wait for a pair of boots that you then have to send back and then have to wait just as long or longer to get the next pair.🤦🏻♂️
what i appreciate about Thursday boots is that they've been able to keep their prices stable over the past several years, as well as excellent customer service.
Wow, $80 belt huh, didn’t know that, only looked at their footwear, but that does sound a bit overpriced for sure
Amen
Considering it’s not 1 piece of leather oh yeah it’s real genuine crap
There's definitely a lot of cost cutting going on in the background but in a good way. Streamlining suppliers, manufacturing processes, etc. reduce cost without reducing quality.
This a brand that should be more praised !!! The quality is amazing, customer service is the best of the best and the price is faire!

What is the size of your feet? 26, 27 cm?
Trying to up my game in style according to my age (over 50). Looking at Thursday Boots; you for the insightful info. Subbed.
hey i'm glad you found this, Alister! sometimes i worry it's too long and in depth to be helpful for folks looking for a simpler answer hah
This comes after I gave up on Thursday after having tried:
11E
11.5E
11.5D
12
😅
Guess I gotta start over.
Finally someone mentions the thickness of the sock and how much that matters!
just give oofficial measurement in inches and cm both length and width.
@@amoliu448 exactly, problem solved
I got their sneakers at regular size as they said, but had to return for half size up. If I try the boots, I'm going with my regular size.
Same. After two uncomfortable pairs, I’m done with this company. No bueno.
Same!
I typically were 10.5 in most running shoes (rarely 11), but ended up having to size down a whole size to 9.5. My feet are quite narrow, so I imagine that has a big effect on it
I was happy to find out they actually make boots in my size (16) I got them in EE/EEE, though I do wish they were a bit wider.
You can always order and try, they have a good return policy
boot sizing is freaking brutal. i have grant stones in size 10 that i should have gotten in a 9 1/2, i have Trumans in a 10 that should have been 10 1/2 and Thursdays in 10 1/2 that should have been a 10. they lie about sizing down from sneakers. i wear a 11 in Nike/Salomon and 10 1/2 in adidas/Hoka. and you can't use your Brannock size. i swear they do this on purpose.
they just dont give sole measurements for some stupid marketing reasons. inches/cm would solve problem
I bought a pair of vanguards 2
months ago.
So a half size down from that 11, is indeed my Brannock result of 10.5
Interestingly my Vans (and New Rock boots) are 45 in EU sizing, but my Nikes are 44.5 EU.
Feet tend to swell up after a lot of walking, so I think these will be great.
would you recommend also sizing down with the thursday sneakers?
I'm on my third pair of Thursday Captains. I found a half size down from my usual and selecting the wide was goldilocks. Not normally a wide, but toes were really getting pinched.
I'll vouch to that. I have a pair of Thursday President's in 11 and a pair of Thursday Premier low top's in 11.5 - Perfect fit in both.
Hi Stridewise, can you please get your hands on Thursdays new Challenger boot? I would love to see a comprehensive review of that boot.
On Thursdays website it says the classic captains dont use the new kingmaker last, but when you're comparing at 6:48 you show the classic captain (the leather used is only available on the classic line) as your example of the Kingmaker vs the "old last" (i think your referring to the RT3?)
Im trying to work out how the kingmaker (on the rugged line) fits vs the encore (on the classic line) as i much prefer the leather options on the classic line.
Regards
They run TTS. I normally wear a 42 on European last and In Thursday Boots, 8.5 fits me perfectly.
Depends on the person majority of sneakers I wear same size but there's some I need to size up.
Last year I ordered 10.5 captains in Arizona adobe. My left boot was uncomfortably 9:09 tight and the right was very snug. I went with the Wide option and loved the fit. Shortly after I ordered the matte black captains (also 10.5 wide)
Today I just got my 3rd pair 10.5 brandy captains and I accidentally ordered the standard size and they fit nicely.
Greg
I like the look of the Cadet boot do you own this and what are your thoughts ??
I just got 2 pairs of Thursdays boots. One in size 11 and one in 10.5 My natural size in thursday boot is 10.5 but I need to wear orthotic insoles. So I'm in the process of doing an experiment. In one pair, size 10.5, I ripped out the none removable insoles and put in the orthotics. For the size 11, I put the orthotics on top of the original insoles. Will be a few months until I find out the long term effects on my joints for each method.
What about the Cavalier last? I’m pretty sure last time I checked you could get standard or wide. Now it shows EE/EEE.
Great video. Very informative. Deciding which Captain to buy.
@@Siberius- They were too short. And it hurt to walk in them for more than a few minutes.
Edit: I actually just got an email back from the company, and interestingly they said:
Thank you for contacting Thursday Boot Company!
Wait never mind, the same person replied to my reply:
Thanks for getting back to us and for the additional information!
Does Thursday have a low volume last and\or an option for an open instep adjustment?
I just don't understand why they don't create/use a wider toe box similar to a munson last. These narrow toe box lasts are LITERALLY foot binding. I had to have surgery because of them.
It's interesting what Nolan says. I am 9.5 on Brannock, wear 9 in AE 5 lasts, wear 9 in AE Higgins Mills, wear 9 in Greats Royale, 10 in Brooks running shoes and 8.5 in Thursday Captain.
Wait, the Classic is roomier, but the R&R has the wider toebox last?
I hope the boots stretch more than tye sneakers. Mine were incredibly tight around the base of the toes and after 2 months of regular wear still hadn't improved. I had to sell them.
I wasn't aware I was supposed to size down with the Storm Captain Boots I purchased and though they feel fine now I'm afraid they will get too loose in time. I've been wearing them four days a week for a few months now and they still feel good, slightly, very slightly roomy but not bad. If I order Chelsea's I may size down as they don't have laces to snug them up.
no no no if they feel fine after this long don't worry at all that you got the wrong size!
I have wide ninja turtle feet but I ordered my regular size 10 1/2 in the standard width classic captain brandy and they are perfect couldn't be happier.
I always go a half size down for Thursdays
Boot to sneaker sizing is weird. So im a 7.5d brannock. I tend to go size 7 for my boots and 8.5 in Sneakers. I only really wear darn tough socks. Mad comfy. I bought thursday vanguard size 7 and an White mp sherman 7c. Both are snug but its just the lack of ability to wiggle my toes. Which kinda annoys me. Also one foot has a slightly higher arch than the other.
So if I have a 10.5 Scout and it fits well, should I buy 10.5 Captains or go for the 10?
I do wish that they would do the goodyear welting on the women's boots as well. I love the women's styles but not having the option of re-soling them is definitely buying deterrent for me
i have wide width and given the vagaries of boot sizing, the best solution is to go to the Thursday store! See you in a week or so.
Haha
I did buy a brown seanker last fall. It's nice. Very impressived with the Thursday. I been recommending to my peers ever since .
I'm a 9.5-10 and my size 9 Cadet fits perfect. Not tight, not too roomy.
Can't they just say "true to size"?
we need some wide high tops
I caution this take on 1/2 size down unless their kingsmaker last changes things - im a size 10.5 normal shoe size. I ordered 10.5 and my heels got destroyed as back part of the boot curved into the heel itself so to speak (Titan/Hero). I snagged a size 11 Chelsea and that fits just fine. My Daytons on the other hand, I have a size 10 and no issues other than traditional break in pains.
I wear an 11 in thorogood moc toe what size Thursday boot should I get
How do they compare to 1000 mile? I wear a 9.5 in those.
Idk about the sizing with regard to the sneaker . I ordered my regular sneaker size and my toes were jammed . Need to actually go a size up . In the Captain if they have wide sizes that would probably be an option in my regular size . Their “D” width shoes seem a little narrower
same here
Is it normal for your heal to have lift? Don't know a better way to ask it!
Does anyone know if the Amazon Thursday Boots are the same as Thursday’s website Boots
Guys, i’m wearing uk9 for dr martens and converse shoes, should i take a half size smaller or stick to it? Thanks in advance!
Trouble is i wear 12 in vans, 11.5 in nike and 11 in converse
Love Thursday but size guides aren't helpful with their inconsistent sizing. 3 pairs of boots from them, all the same size. One is very tight, another is extremely big, really wide and really long even with an added insole and tongue pad, last fits perfectly like it was made for me
Can you share with us what model is too tight and what model is too loose and which one fits?
Did your older boot just stretch with time? or are you specifically talking about the length?
Wearing a 15 B in Brannock with flat feet, should I even consider these boots.

Big cavalier guy right here
I must be different. 13EE sneakers. Just exchanging my 13EE Diplomat purchase to a 14EE.
I wanna know more about the new stompers.
I feel they are problem for narrow feet. Im not shure about new last but i went through 2 pairs of witch i had one return (that makes 3 pairs that went through my hands) of different sizes and gave up. As person in europe free returns are not a thing, they end up 50e. I appreciate how friendly they're customer support is but it just doesn't work for me
Thursday needs to add more light colors in wide with kingmaker last. Especially with the stormking sole.
I ordered too late for what I thought I wanted. You sent me what should’ve wanted and my podiatrist sends his compliments. 🎉
This video should be on Thursday website.
it should, right? maybe i'll ask them
So me, an 11, with a 10.5 in sneakers, should get a 10? Dubious.
Lets hear how they turned out when you get them!
@@victorlinge92 The 10s definitely fit better. I have a very narrow instep and I think a half size down is what helped there. If the last wasn't already very roomy in a 'standard width' I could see them being a bit tight in the front but they fit great. Haven't worn them much yet though
@@UranTCG Interested to hear how they are for you now after a month of owning them. Also, which ones did you get?
@@CAHiredGun I got the Tobacco R&T Presidents because I don't care for the faux toecap and I've been working too much to break them in unfortunately
@@UranTCG Gotcha, thanks for the quick reply anyway!
does this apply for the women's boots as well?
no! order your usual size for women's boots
thank you!@@Stridewise
That “New” Captain in the video honestly looked like the Nirvana last and not the new Kingmaker Last. The two different boots shown seemed drastically different like when the nirvana came out for its short stint. Any other images I’ve seen between the old last and the new kingmaker last seem much more similar than that drastic difference shown here. I’m once again confused with Thursday.
The Brandy colored boot with the new kingmaker last looked like the correct one. But when they showed the rugged and resilient boot side by side the new one really looked like the nirvana.
At 7:00, why does the Brandy Captain appear to be taller than the Terracotta?
It looks like the heal is also short, could be that
"Sneaker size" is a bad metric as every manufacturer's shoes fit differently. Why not give some examples like a Converse Chuck Taylor or a Nike Jordan (common shoes but a size 10 converse is much larger than a size 10 Nike)?
I bought the major and i feel like I'm wearing clown shoes
Well said! I am not remote shipping, but same issues with sizing and QC.
I’m 11 but I got 10.5 titans and they fit perfect
yeah I'm 11 in Titans, tried 11.5 but nope
The sizing for Vanguards is all wrong. I ordered according to their recommendation and the boots were too small.
What color Captain at 7:35
that's terracotta, after a lot of wear and venetian shoe cream
