    I just took TPE services from Manchester Airport to Yarm and back in June 2023 and it was a complete mess. No direct services from the Airport, change at Piccadilly, get across Manchester on a tram to Victoria. Absolute shambles. I'll rent a car next time. It took me 7 hours to get from Manchester Airport to Yarm. Unbelievable.

      Same shit 4 me. Hull to leeds Airport and i discovered i needed a bus from leeds to the airport. On the train ticket they quoted a single fare from hull to leeds airport but when i booked separately the train was 8 quid and bus 2 quid. Good old rip off uk

    I loved the new trains for the first few years - then everything went pear-shaped and the franchise became the laughing stock of the rail industry. How did it all go wrong?

    Nice train but was too small . Need to be 5 or 6 cars from the start

    The launch of the Hitachi Class 802 was a disaster with not enough drivers trained and Class 185s out of action too. TPE no longer run to Blackpool too

    Perhaps some of the people running TransPennine Express company had the best of intentions but were unrealistically over-optimistic and bit off more than they could chew. Looks like the Northern, Central, East and Western railways need a lot more investment to bring them up to efficent, safe, modern, convenient, comfortable, affordable, enjoyable and reliable standards?

    Great Video about the Class 185 Documentary when the Trains are first new, i still like the 185s today on TPE Services, im from the place Scunthorpe and they have Good Train services

      This was filmed from 2005-2006. ( around 1-2 years after Transpennine was founded ).

    They didn't have enough carriages for the traffic. The seats were very uncomfortable for the longer routes. The fact they have largely been replaced says it all.

    TransPennine Express shouldn’t go bust but for Northern to merge with TransPennine Express and to operate all services in the North of England. I have been on the Class 185 Desiro that Siemens have built for TransPennine Express.

    These days I avoid TransPennine like the plague. It just seems like their problems are insurmountable. It’s gotten so bad I really wish that cross border WCML services would be given back to West Coast. I know Avanti cannot make drivers magically appear, but at least they seem to be moving past their post-Covid problems, unlike TPE who seem to be sinking further into it.

      Personally I can’t. They don’t do stopper services too bad, which is why I still use them. It’s like cracking a nut with a jackhammer.
      Personally I prefer it over comfort, comparing it to the northern services that run on the same services. Last time I experience a proper 185 service to Manchester, it was *ok*. That was back in 2017 though. Not sure how much worse it’s gotten 😅

    I find it sad that so many people can be so sincere about the bullshit they must surely realise is bullshit.
    "Our's is the best" while knowing they will not be able to deliver.
    Ultimately the Rail Company is looking to maximise investor return and has little interest in the Customer.

    My question is. Where is TransPennine Express as a company today? I do believe this franchise is just been returned to the public sector due to the disgraceful track record of this company. Before it was taken back into public ownership. TransPennine Express had a record low in customer satisfaction and this is the reason why they lost the franchise. TransPennine Express was nowhere near a new concept. It was just a rebrand or a rehash of a former company. Same old polluting diesel multiple unit when they could of electrified the line and given the public high-speed modern electrified Rail. When are we going to start doing things properly in Britain and really take pride in our railway system?
    This is a very adequate PR corporate video in my opinion.

      Yes it needs to be fully electric or at least bi-mode. The 185's should really be cascaded to Wales on the Cambrian / HoWL as they're good on hilly routes.

    how bad is it now!! the 185 is mechanically good....but is only a 2 car unit because of 1st class and the toilet! Should have been at least a 5 car and all standard class...its all about money! how about take all the seats out...more passengers..sorted!..going back to 5 car...been withdrawn now...TPE is complete shambles and needs totally sorting...run by idiots...passengers dont matter..
