Berbick was as strong as an ox, possessed a high work rate, a heavy punch in either hand and was a nightmare for most heavyweights, except of course for the very best fighters of his era, such as Larry Holmes, Buster Douglas and Mike Tyson, all of whom beat him decisively. Berbick's big claim to fame were his victories over the legendary Muhammed Ali (Ali's last fight), Pinklon Thomas from who he won the WBC heavyweight title and former champ 'Big' John Tate. He was murdered in Jaimaca some years ago by relatives over a land dispute. But he definitely was a colourful character to say the least and was involved in a number of disputes and feuds with both promoters and fighters over the course of his boxing career. He also had numerous run ins with the law so he was by no angel by any standards. He was a hard man who had a hard life and who met with a rather grizzly death. No one is promised a good ending to life and in Berbick's case, that statement was sadly true!🥊

From back when everyone still fought everyone else, how he had a fair amount of losses but also a few quality wins.

@@jimmynich4791 Yes, Berbick was definitely a decent fighter. He was 42 years old when he fought Hasim Rahman in 1996, which, I think, was the last major fight he was involved in. Of course, he was knocked out by Rahman but had 'The Rock' fought a prime Berbick, the outcome would have been very different. Berbick was a very tough and hard man!

Tyson made it look easy but there was a time that Berbick was a scary man in the division.

I have yet to see him. Also, Berbick was only KO’d twice in 61 pro fights. Even in the Tyson fight you see flashes of a great chin.

That first KO should have been a DQ or NC. I counted 2 punches to the back of the head/neck on that exchange. Very shocked and disappointed at that one.

I see where you are coming from, but John Tate turned his back and attempted to run in the other direction. As a LONG term boxing fan i would be upset to see a DQ in these circumstances. A punch to the back of the head is not a rabbit punch if you turn your back. That is Tate's fault. Berbick did nothing wrong in my opinion. But i respect your opinion as well. Stay safe 🤝
