  • It’s time to wrap this project up!
In this video I cover the finishing and the installation of the mirror.
This has not been a project for everyone. But if you have a CNC or a Shaper Origin - this project id for you!
I will be working on the svg and dxf drawings and hopefully have them available tomorrow.

The joinery is perfect. That shaper origin would be great in small shops.

Another great result, Darrell! I remain unconvinced about the Shaper Origin as it removes control from the user in terms of that decision-making connection and agency between the user and the wood. It does reduce the footprint of a CNC down to something that about the same size as the largest hand routers. It seems fine for tasks like that backing board, but I would not commit it to a workpiece unless I knew that I had 100% option over what it might do at any time. Similarly, I remain unconvinced about Tesla's self-driving for more or less the same reasons! The same could be argued about "traditional" CNC of course, however one isn't hanging off the loud end of those during working. The degree of slop resulting from the Shaper Origin does appear to lend a "by human hand" sort of look to the workpieces, which I think is an ironically-strange justification for handing one's skills over to a machine 😀

thanks, Tristan. The Shaper Origin is sort of a middle ground . I find it very accurate and predictable for projects like this mirror frame but it's not up to the level of my large CNC ( it's also a small fraction of the cost of my CNC though).
I too am unconvinced about self-driving vehicles. On rare occasions my CNC does something nutty. It would only take one "rare occasion" to kill you in a self-driving car!

Really like the project and once I take the time to figure out show to use my CNC.I will give it a try. CNC is not plug and play.

thanks, John. At least with my CNC there was a lot to learn. The .dxf files will be available later today for CNC users. Good luck with your CNC!
