Rafter tail Tables in the Greene & Greene Style Part 4: Rafter tails, faux tenons, ebony plugs

  • This segment covers the joinery, shaping, and attaching the rafter tails. Also covered are the making and installation of the faux tenons as well as the ebony pegs.
    The drawing package is available on my website and includes:
    * cut list
    * written instructions
    * copy of drawings in .JPG format
    *copy of drawings in .DXF format ( for CAD and CNC users)
    * SVG files ( for Shaper Origin Users) for the rafter tail routing template and for the End Table and Coffee Table tops

    Why is it that with the faux tenons and ebony plugs you don't want to bottom out?

      Hi Karl, If I set the faux tenons and ebony plugs to bottom out it doesn't leave me with any adjustment.
      In other words if the plugs bottom out - the length of the faux tenon and the depth of the mortise need to be exact to achieve the desired amount of protrusion.
      By making the mortises deeper I can tap the piece in and stop exactly where I want it.
