Suvari is flirtatious and claims to be unchaste similar to Emma Stone in Easy A. Spacey's character is a gaping loser lusting from afar until the end when he builds confidence through other means. The Suvari virginity reveal only comes at the conclusion, breaking Spacey's spell and making him do the right thing.

Lester didn't have a perfect life. It just looked that way. His wife was already cheating or about to, his daughter hated him, and his job was a stagnant unfulfilling mess. Either watch the movie or just don't commentate on it
No Josh (I know will never read this) he has a perfect suburban lifestyle & he fucking miserable! That’s the point, upper upper middle class money & is not joy. He quits his job by blackmail & gets a years severance taking control of a life that was on the surface awesome. He gets a job flipping burgers b/c stress isn’t worth it anymore. You can’t dis it if you haven’t seen it b/c for the first time in over a year I agree with Nick, it really is one of the best ever made. It was inspired by the Apartment by Billy Wilder ANOTHER masterful film. American Beauty is partly why I’m Buddhist & that’s not in the movie. It’s a reflection of the American pursuit being misguided. It’s perfection especially b/c it was pre 9/11 movies lost a philosophic tones for a decade after 9/11.

Umm. It was about a guy fantasizing about having a relationship with his daughter’s high school friend. I was uncomfortable during the entire movie. I am a prude though. 🙄

It was supposed to make you feel that uncomfortable ick. That’s what builds the tension! The whole movie you’ve like “eew please don’t Lester.” Then when the girl (who is flirting w/him for weeks, extra ick) & he are finally alone there’s such an “oh dear god please don’t Lester!” He does the right thing, THATS actually what makes it great. Nick still doesn’t get that part. He dies knowing he’s doing the right things now. A year earlier probably not making those choices.
My aunt was furious that he dies, she didn’t get it either. I told her “He tells you in the first 15 seconds that in one year he will be dead. The fact that you are shocked when he does die, that is a great film! You knew what would happen & you are still shocked & moved by it.”

I hate when people talk about things they know nothing about. First Spacey is NOT a convicted sex offender. He has won every court case brought against him. I know that Nick goes on and on about American Beauty. He is obsessed. However it is one of the best movies ever made. Watch it before making judgement.
It's crazy how people look older with age
There shouldn't be that much of a drastic difference in a few years once they are an adult. Sure people put on and lose weight but his eyes are sunked, his nose has got redder and he looks sickly.
People don't usually age that much in 3 years unless they're drinking or something.
Gonna say something. I know he changed his camera a while back, Go look up his year old videos to know.I can criticize a person for drinking but not for looking older. People where bitching he had a red nose since he changed the camera.
