  • 2018 Nissan Leaf - Chrome mirror cap fitting
I thought I'd do a little to improve the appearance of my 2018 Nissan Leaf by adding the chrome mirror caps.
They were straightforward to fit, but needed nerves of steel to prise off the old caps trying not to break them.
Unfortunately some of the clips on the old covers split, but would be so fixable with super glue.
    ===UPDATE===
A viewer has described the correct method to remove the caps.
"The "tangs" should be approached from the mirror side with a long screwdriver to disengage the barbs. They are exposed if you motor the mirror to the extremes of travel . You also need a torch and a thin push stick to ease the cap off. Your method will always destroy the tangs."

Here is the eBay link: www.ebay.co.uk...
These were purchased from a Nissan dealer in Leigh, Lincoln. There are lots of listing on eBay now for the same parts, so shop around to compare prices before you buy.
    The part number is: KE9605S01C
Music: Staccato by Vibe Tracks from the TH-cam Audio Library.

Thanks for posting this it's really helpful. It's given me the confidence to order a set from Ebay and fit them myself rather than use the (expensive) dealer. Cheers!

Thanks for the comments. Just be careful removing your existing covers if you want to use them again. The removal process isn't the best.

Most body plastics contain ABS which are easily mended with Acetone. Thank you for showing the process. Interesting that my Canadian 2018 Leaf SL (top trim) does not have motorized mirrors but your Leaf does.

It is a very nice car. I had a chance to test drive it and made some videos what I would like to publish it soon. Thank you for this video. Keep it up.

You used the incorrect method for removal. The "tangs" should be approached from the mirror side with a long screwdriver to disengage the barbs. They are exposed if you motor the mirror to the extremes of travel . You also need a torch and a thin push stick to ease the cap off. Your method will always destroy the tangs.

Wish this was included in the instructions! Thanks for pointing it out.

RSThinks I have just changed my white caps for the blue ray colour. That's the same colour as the strip on all 40kwh cars rear bumper and front "grille". Like your change to chrome from black, I think it provides a nice contrast and looks better than the OE colour. I agree the fitting instructions were pretty useless, so I am not criticising you for your method. Just a shame you now have some damaged caps that will probably not sell for a good price.

No offence taken. 👍🏻 In fact I put your method on the video description. I am contemplating getting the rear blue chrome strip wrapped in mirror chrome. Not sure yet though.

Yes, with chrome door handles and mirror caps, this would look more integrated. It's a shame that Nissan do not allow more OE custom options on the accent colours like some of the other manufacturers do.

Thanks RS. Those fragile lugs will be deliberate. They'll probably break, unassisted, after a few years of use.

I had my Nissan dealer fit mine and they bodged the job so badly, they had to fit 2 new door mirrors, then refit the chrome covers, one side had a gap you could fit the edge of a coin into, this work was not charged for so I replaced my original Grey covers.

I got mine fitted at Nissan so as to have no hassle, like you had when you fitted the aerial. If I remember you said that you wish you had let Nissan do it. Anyway, it doesn’t seem that hard.

Could you do a video on how to change license plate bulbs to LEDs and interior lights to?
