Y’know what would have been better? Spyro going through crash-styled stages and crash going through Spyro styled stages, like the two going into each other’s universes

All of which are shit and require quadruple the amount of repetition just to complete it. What were they thinking?
I think Spyro would have a considerably easier time than Crash in that case. With the far away platforms you'd glide too and all that.

That's what I was thinking.
Make a great crossover with both Spyro AND crash while having great story, baddies from the past, interaction between those characters to show their traits and personalities also morals and goals.
And potentially mixed gameplay from both Crash, Spyro and perhaps a mix of both where you can use them BOTH at the same time. The idea and concept is there...... its just needs to be done right without throwing shit at the wall and see what sticks.

That's very often not the case with relatively clearly flawed games. What is the case is deadlines that are demanded or having worse consequences on the studio.

That is a complete understatement. Crash Nitro Kart is one of the best GBA games up to the ranks of Astro Boy: Omega Factor, A Link to the Past + Four Swords Adventures, Lady Sia (Not to be conducted with the infamous yet overrated Music director), Sabre Wulf, Sonic Advance 3 (2 is half-decent and 1 is also awesome, but 3 is the best of the best), Mario Golf: Advance Tour, the Super Mario Advance quadrilogy, Golden Sun 1 & 2, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Suoerstar Saga and the Mega Man Zero quadrilogy!

Tanner Price As someone who owned and played the game, pretty sure that game gets the 'Slaughter' as well.
It'll be the same episode, but at least that version is not as boring as Spyro Orange. Because well, that game has more mini games than Spyro, even more like Crash games because some mini games like breaking all boxes, a speedrun stage, and polar bear section.

Let's be honest, though. If there's one part where Crash Purple is just as shit as Spyro Orange, it's the "boss battles".
I haven't played either since I was a lad, but from what I remember, both were garbage.

I think it's probably they're were too challenged/rushed to try and combine the gameplay elements of different games so they just end up throwing them into mini games with their own sets of rules.
Odella Lark they were basically continuing crash bash.
For a crossover between two PS1 icons, they deserved better than what was essentially a shitty minigame collection.
Maybe if the Reignited Trilogy is a success, Activision could get the idea to create a crossover game between them, who knows?
Or maybe re-do both games entirely from scratch with a much better story, emphasis on the original gameplay styles and allowing you to play through both Crash and Spyro sides in separate story modes ALA, Sonic Adventure 2 style.
I recall the two villains being introduced to each other in the first one (Crash: Purple), but don't quote me on that.

The best part of this game is how every Crash and Spyro character appears to be either horrified or angry that they are a part of the game. Seriously. Crash and Spyro maybe smile once each, and even then it seems like they have been held at gunpoint and told to do so.
