    Fun fact: the Manta is the only unit in 40k that has guns that can't hit something on the opposite end of itself.

    For context on the manta: the deep-strike rule for crisis suit unit is called "manta strike", the implication being that the manta is so large and important as to be beyond the scope of the ruleset.

      I'm old enough to remember the T'au being released and that GW created them to break into the Japanese market (for the record, the Japanese market preferred Bretonnians lol). Personally, the far-future Japanese theme (and the mech suits) sold the race to me and I've had a small collection for years. Just wish I could afford some FW models for the collection lol.

    A few comments of my own here.
    One, I unironically love how the Manta looks. It somehow both looks graceful and brutally deadly at the same time.
    Two, I think you underestimate it a bit by saying you can put two Hammerheads in it. After all, you can ALSO put two Devilfish in it at the same time as those Hammerheads!
    And Three, the Ta'unar as a full set, some of its most impressive weapons, and the XV9 are sold out and no longer available in my country, which makes me sad.

Almost like doing the Militarum outflank with 3 max sized stacks of conscripts and a fully kitted out stormlord full of heavy weapons teams for when you need the absolute maximum amount of daka via special delivery into the enemy's face. Idk why youd do either strategy but maybe if you're playing a multi man mega apocalypse game and you need to buy time for your allied titans to get into position or something

    So fun facts. The R'Varna in lore is based off the Riptide, but it's a long range Riptide that uses Pulse Submunitions to just lay down plasma fire.
    The Y'Vahra was built due to the success of the R'Varna but fills the opposite role as a close quarters battlesuit. It has a Phased Plasma-Flamer that can melt space marine armor. That's why it has the hefty jetpack so it can fly into a crowd, melt everything, then go onto a new combat zone.

    I have to say that the Barracuda kit is one of the best designed Forge World kits I've ever assembled. What's most about it brilliant is that it's actually DESIGNED to be magnetized.
    Every swappable part and its corresponding hardpoint have circular recesses moulded into the sculpt for putting magnets into and it works perfectly.

  • @agirlisnoone8180
    @agirlisnoone8180 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Kirioth. Have a search on TH-cam for Manta build projects. Believe it or not. But, some people that have built it have resorted to boiling some of the parts in order to make them pliable enough to straighten out!
    Forge World Tau kits I own include the Tetras, two of the old style Barracudas, sha’so R’myr, some of the older crisis suits they released with the Taros campaign book, Remora drones, a couple of XV9’s, several of the FW Broadsides, an original resin Piranha and a TX-42 Piranha. I would really like them to re-release the crashed Piranha. That was a nice mini.

  • @alphaleigpyne
    @alphaleigpyne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree, the Forge World resin kits are a challenge to assemble. The cannon with the two rods on the XV109 Y'Vahra is like the Mechanicum Knight Moirax Conversion Beam Cannon. I've just finished assembling it and it was a bit of annoyance to glue some parts of it together.
    KX139 Ta'Unar Supremacy is a beast!

  • @DracoTheBlack
    @DracoTheBlack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can very easily convert a Stormsurge to look like the Taunar. There are several good arm kits for the Stormsurge and you can actually stand them up much, much taller than the way GW insists on assembling them.

    I have the s8premacy armor model and it is quite an impressive model. It comes with cavities for magnets on the arms already included which was nice. I built mine so it comes apart at the waist and I can remove the top gun assembly (this was even before a second upper option was a thing) just so it can occasionally be moved. I got two of the same arm and one of a different arm (at the time there were only two arm choices) so I can do multiple versions in I ever use this thing in battle. It even comes with a huge circular base that I drilled screws through the bottom into the model's feet to support it. I had fun with the base and used a couple of the resin end cap pieces that FW pieces are often attached to and turned them into little barricades and glued a couple spare fire warriors taking shots from behind the barricades as the supremacy suit towers over them. It is definitely a model that you will hardly ever use but it looks amazing as the centerpiece of a T'au collection.

    The Manta, the definition of madness. A 2000 points TRANSPORT with capacity for 200 infantry and drone models, 4 hammerhead/devilfish/sky ray gunships and 8 Battlesuits (those only with 9 or less wounds).
    That are about 3000 points capacity without any special equipment, taking 8 stock broadside, 4 Hammerheads and 200 Breachers/Strike Teams, theoretically you could take 240 infantry and 4 devilfishes to take as many models as possible.
    And then this thing gets shot down before dropping of the troops, lets roll for 250+ models if they survive

    It's very old now as well. It was around since 2001 in the very first Tau codex, and the model itself is like 15-16 years old. Not sure how long it takes to be "established" in the 40k universe.

    The Tiger Shark AX-1-0 was one of the coolest things to ever come out of Tau lore. Being able to fight and destroy unique, nearly irreplaceable Titans with mass-produced fighter aircraft perfectly suited the little blue weebs, and while I do like the Ta'unar, I will never forgive Geedubs for making up an excuse for the Shark to not work so they could sell another Titan-scale robot.
    Also yeah, the Tau range on FW got gutted. Pretty much every Crisis and Broadside variant, including an entire character (Commander R'myr, who had a cool elliptical shield and a double-barrelled Plasma Rifle), all gone. This was at around the time where the only variant Crisis available was the monopose Finecast Commander kit, so if you wanted a unique and well-posed Crisis Commander, you were shit out of luck.
    At least we still have the Hazards.

    The Rvarna is amazing to build but has lots of small details to help you glue your fingers toghether. The yvarna on the other hand is reasonably easy to put toghether, both are fun though

    the barracuda is like a more exaggerated version of the f35 or f22 which has it's 20mm cannon offset in the shoulder of the body of the airframe it's just not as LORGE as the barracudas gun. but if they balance the airframe properly, there's no reason that shouldn't work.

    Kirioth likes the 107.
    Kirioth gets a District 9 Vibe from the 107.
    Kirioth wouldn’t mind owning a 107.
    For pity’s sake, give yourself and the people what they want!
    A 107 kitbashed so it looks to be launching a pig, à la District 9!

    Idk why they don't make more battlesuit variants that aren't giant fucking models and have melee weapons, it would make sense that battlesuits would be a answer to giant super soldiers

    Tau aircraft follow the "blended wing-body" school of design - they do look viciously dangerous. Also, as a Tau player, I would LOVE to have 3 squads of XV-9s. a shame I don't have the impetus to both to get them and paint them up >.>

    The fw tau models are so much more powerful then the gw one. If you got the coin you can build a pretty competitive list with the fw suits.

    I bought the tetras years ago when they first came out, they are odd looking and when I have used them have been ignored by players they are only good for target locks which helped but I have hardly used them. My favourite is the Barracuda.

    The Tiger Shark is a flying wing much like the B-2 spirit or F-117 and the cuda takes cues from the A-10 (brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt) whose gun is of set from center line a little bit not to that extent though.

    Can we pour one out for my boy the yvahra. This bad boy used to have an insane flamer. When overcharged, heavy 3d6 s6 ap-3 d3 that's right flat 3 damage on a flamer. By no means was this guy busted I mean he was way over costed at 400 something points but it was still cheeky enough for me to join a tournament and play three of these bad boys just for the shits and giggles of massive stupid flamers. Sadly the IAC neutered their flamers to a pitiful d1 and hardly dropped the price to compensate. I will never not feel like I lost a child on that terrible day.
