      indeed! matter of fact I've heard some claim it was the most effective battlefield weapon of ww2 just cause of how scary it was

    • @Zack_Wester
      @Zack_Wester 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@freewillgeorge a flamer was supper scary and if it got close enough to turn on the flamer and you was indoor double toasty dead . outdoor you might be able to duck to cover and survive badly burnt.
      problem whit the flamer and even on a flame tank was.
      1 massive fuel tanks (not good) if they got shoot it ether started to leak fuel and that could stop the flamer from working at all and then there now fuel everywhere and a lot of open flames.... not pleasant for the guy holding the flamer or the guys nearby at worse boom the flamer boy is now gone,
      2: a flamer can´t burn for a long time maybe a few seconds at best.... that was the full backpack and the range is insultingly short ok a lot longer then what video games makes it out to be but still short compared to the range of a combat rifle/carbine or even a shotgun.
      3: this is for infantry I presume the tanks had a simular issue.
      in order for a flame thrower to be effective they need to have a small flame at the end of the fuel sprewer end.
      a lighter could do in a pinch (dont use a limb you care about to hold the lighter).
      the US put whats best described as a revolver flare light at the end.
      and when you was about to burn something you light it and started to spew fire in 5 sec or so or you needed to light another flare. if you for some reason manage to used up all flares in the revolver drum, you now had a fuel spewer and not a flamethrower.

    11:30 There was indeed a Churchill hull variant with an in-built +sized flamethrower. It was called the Crocodile, and everyone who used the thing loved it. It actually had more firepower than the model you’re looking at right now, it had it’s machine gun, on top of it’s main gun, on top of it’s hull-mounted flamethrower, and the crews liked to use every single one at once. Things were well put together, and it had enough armor that that said crews were usually (relatively) safe. The Crocodile actually proved more effective when it started spitting fire out of range, because the Germans tended to surrender rather than try to fight it.

      @spencergalland5754 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dashiell Gillingham there is also the Flampanzers and of course the Sherman crocodile. Also the Japanese SSD. Flametanks were a fad. Oh and the T-34 had a flame variant. And the KV 8

    • @calebbarnhouse496
      @calebbarnhouse496 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remember that the reason the Germans surrendered was because they were used exclusively where they didn't have anti tank guns or tanks, any tank would have rolled over the German postions

    The Valkyrie Skytalon is a unique vehicle for the Elysian Drop Troops. It functioned similarly to the regular Valkyrie but carried either two Sentinels or one of the Taurus buggies. Sadly you can’t use it outside the Elysians. I’ve got one which I’m converting up to carry one of the plastic Munitorum Armoured Containers. In games, I plan to use it as a regular Valkyrie for rule of cool.

    And compared to what the range used to, no Elysians, Griffons, the OG Shadowsword & Baneblade (which didn't have a stupid church on the back), the Omega Machrius, Kreig Grenadiers, Bags and Storage, random accessories etc they've gutted the Guard range and not added anything new to replace it. There hasn't been anything that wasn't a Space Marine in god knows how long. Forgeworld used to be where I went to get all the cool unusual Guard stuff, now... Marines and more Marines (Just what GW needs more bloody marines)

    I bought a Malcador Annihilator tank, a few years ago and assembled it for my Chaos Militia, but I haven't used it for game. I bought Imperial Armour: War machines of the lost and damned back in 2014 for the rules of the Malcadors, along with more Chaos Space Marines and Daemons rules, except they didn't have any for the Annihilator pattern! Which meant I would have to get the Astra Militarum version of Imperial Armour.

    Problem with the Macharias Heavy and Vanquisher is that they don't have an equivalent to a Leman Russ' Grinding Advance rule that lets them fire twice, which means having two of the same gun doesn't really mean much. You basically pay about two-thirds more points and a Lord of War slot in order to have autocannon or lascannon sponsons (which you also have to pay for), the ability to move full speed without loosing firepower and about half again a Leman Russ' wound count. Taking two Russes is generally a better option.
    The Macharius Vulcan meanwhile is substantially better than a Leman Russ Punisher against well-armoured or W2 models, so it fills a different niche and is worth bringing. Plus it looks the coolest of the three while IIRC also being the cheapest in points!

    i think every Warhammer faction wants to get hold of a specific group of people.
    The Tau are some sort of Gundam/Japan/Samurai style and Space Marines are like the Terrans from Starcraft and the Astra Militarum are for those who are in the WW1 and WW2 stuff but want there stuff a but spiced up. i mean the "Armageddon Pattern Basilisk" 26:42 is hard inspired from the german Panzerjäger Ferdinand.
    Thats why i dont like those debats about like, for example, "Tau dont belong to the "grimdark universe" of Warhammer" and for me, Astra Militarum is for the WW1 and WW2 fanboys^^

    Whilst the Churchill crocodile had a flame thrower with a fuel trailer the Infernus with its big flame thrower and no turret reminds me more of th Italian L3 Lf. They have one at Bovington.

    Not seen some of the macro sized weapon systems current armies employ?
    The AC-130 springs to mind, since it's carrying and can fire multiple howitzers at the same time, all on a plane initially meant for carrying cargo.
    There are many, many examples out there, that will put these to shame if they were scaled against each other properly.

    I have and use the macharius vanquisher regularly to good effect as a tank hunter it lives a little longer than my leman russ vanquisher but generally is a good tank but the Vulcan variant is perfect for mowing down infantry lol

    I'm in the process of painting a macharius for a commission.
    They are packed fun of detail, but boy are they a chunky lump of resin to hold

    Tthe crew of the drill saw corswain attacked The Knight Haunter and said, "You know, I love Corswain, but I think we can do better."(Corswain stabbed Konrad on Tugulasa during the Thramas Campaign and rode him like a bull rider in savage weapons)

    I prefer the preator to the manticore. The manticore feels like a modern SAM site. Its not sci fi or ww2. But thar preator that is a sexy beast

    One thing that bothers me is that there’s barely any attempt to protect the tracks on most the tanks. Personally I’d customize some armored protection for the upper part of the tracks... at least to make them more ww2-ish than ww1-ish

    • @LordInter
      @LordInter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can put additional armour over the top of the tracks, it makes it much easier to work on the tracks and get it back in action after all the crew are dead 🤪

    I bought a Macharius Vulcan a few years a go and was pretty disappointed with it. I couldn't get any of the parts to straighten out using hot water or a heat gun.
