I really appreciate this video, as i have been looking for something like this for a long time, you went through exactly what was needed and what to look for when tuning a carburetor. Much appreciated, keep up this great content.
Easily one of the best/easy to follow walkthroughs ive seen on YT 👌 Straight to the point so you explained very well in around ten minutes what others have taken 30/45 mins to do and you even included what to listen for. Excellent video/tutorial 👍
Very clear and easy to understand. Great explanation of how it works and effects the bike. I appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into making the video.
Thanks for this, my 06 rm 250 starts up super high, but mellows out when warm. I had adjusted my air screw to help with some splooge during the warm months, but really I should just throw in the pro circuit jet settings. Now I know what the bike should sound like; this video takes a lot of the unknowns and tension of making simple changes away. :)
One clip position on the needle may be a big change. If that is the case, you can make a little washer to put on the needle between the clip and the slide to only move the needle half the normal clip slot difference.
The way you described this was so much better than anyone I’ve seen on TH-cam so far. I have watched a decent amount of videos as well. My crf450r is backfiring and bogging bad to the point of cutting out when it’s a cold start. I’m assuming now it’s definitely jets or the pin.
I don’t have a Beta but on the Yamaha YZ 250 always check the ignition timing for some reason they come with timing advanced enough to make them ping on anything less than racing fuel.
Wow! Thank you so much for that, you just explained a lifetime of head scratching in one video, Subbed and going to watch a load more of your videos 👍😁
So well explained Brad...thanks for the vid. Hooked on your tips now...keep them coming. Good luck with the new season, when it finally gets underway. 🤘
I found this helpful I been trying to set my kx80 carb and now I can tell that the main jet 2 number can make a huge difference thanks for the tip men 💪🔥
Very nice tips, so understandable. Some make explanations so difficult. You sound like ya just want to help as quickly and understandably as possible to get us out riding. Thank you sir
Like the face expreation at beginning of vid. ha ha. Great info expeashly 4 sme 1 that doesn't no or fully understand carbs. cause when 1 don't can turn in 2 bad headache. have a great day bro. Wick on ✊ 🇺🇸
What a great video mate, the best explanation of a carb I have ever seen. Super helpful. I have my Beat 300rr (not racing) current sounding a little off so will have a play, keeps dying when coming off the revs, sits ideal ling ok but just when coming off revs, hopefully this will help. Thanks again
Im brand new to dirt bikes, been riding harleys for a long time. My dirt bike ran great in the beginning but over the two weeks of riding it wont idle at all. Im come i to a turn holding clutch and she will die right out. Im frustrated. I think its running lean cause man i hit the limiter fast and bang through gears. Nice explanations i got work to do. Air leaks, maybe jetting. I turned my idle screw all the way in made a little dif but not a ton. Bike is a 97 rm125. I did do an oil change and put yamalube 10 40 in it.
just picked up my 2021 beta rr250!!! novice ridert, 40 years old and learning absolutely love it, thank you so much for your video as it deff has helped me out a lot. My question is I have a non race edition so its oil injected will this still work for me ?
Nice explanation for the main jet. You mentioned about the idle jet size, but what about needle and main jet? I can see only NOZ, but what is the last letter? Is it a G letter or J?
Really awesome video! Thanks for creating it! Does the Beta 125 RR-S 4-stroke and the 125 RR 2-stroke share the same carb? And would you setup these jet the same way?
It must stipulated that the engine is in good mechanical condition, most people i know have owned bike for 3 yrs with no servicing to engine and it starts to smoke heavily or breathe heavily automaticly blame it on carberuttion....very good video, thanks.
Novice needing advice please I’ve just fitter an turbine core 2 and gnarly pipe to my exc 200. Well the bike is now not idleing unless the choke is out, and when twisting the throttle the bike bogs down for a second or two before revving up. I have checked out what jets I’m running and I’m on a 38 idle and a 170 main. UK weather may I add So the question is what step should I go for first ?
@@bradfreeman7916 just got the new yz250 and put factory fmf and shorty on so it dose need jetting but il give it a go if I get stuck expect a message hahah cheers pal
Hi Brad...thanks for videos...this one helps a lot! I need more bottom end power on my 250 enduro, currently running 40 pilot...going to try 42...do you think 45 would be too much for 250? getting RM needle too as everyone saying its mirracle :) thanks
It is not a good idea to select your main jet when the bike is not hot and under load. The correct spark plug range is needed, (and usually a NGK plug). The best way to select your main jet is by riding it, full throttle down a road for at least 20 seconds, (make sure you are rich enough, with a dark plug for this to not seize), hit the kill switch/pull in the clutch to a stop. Do not let the engine rev down or the plug may darken a bit and give you a false reading. Now pull your plug out and check it. I want to see a very light brown on the porcelain, nothing wet and the bent electrode a bit light in color to the elbow. If it is dark, go a step leaner. If it is grey or white, go richer. A engine need more fuel when it is hot and under load, so it is best to set the main jet that way, and insure you get the best power in the higher rpm's. Sorry. Old man here. Riding since 74, engineering degrees and build 2-stroke engines for a living. Your young yet. :)
one of the easiest explaining tips about carbs settings. really easy to understand and like how you did the comparison and such
Glad you liked it!
I revisit this video at least once a year. One of the best easiest and simple videos on jetting and set up. thank youQ!!!
Awesome tips. One of the best explanations of jetting feel for conditions and finally an explanation of needle effects.
Glad you liked it!

This is great! Actual demonstrations of rich and lean conditions. Thanks!

This is the most great principle of carb video all of I saw.
So glad I found this, been trying to get rid of an off idle stumble with my JD jet kit.
Very clear and easy to understand. Great explanation of how it works and effects the bike. I appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into making the video.
Best carb vid yet!

Hey, Thanks for the 'Don't remove it to rejet' tips, much faster to do!
This was a great way to understand more, well explained.
Thank you! Best explanation so far!!
Great info just re jetted my 2022 200rr with the JD kit wish I saw this video before hand! lol
This video is absolutely spot on straight to the point and so easy to understand cant wait to get in about it and hear mine ping properly🤟🏻😎
cool video! you threw a bomb with the 45 pilot jet, now you have to tell the main jet and needle settings :)
Cant give everything away 😜
I wouldn’t tell either 🤣
One clip position on the needle may be a big change. If that is the case, you can make a little washer to put on the needle between the clip and the slide to only move the needle half the normal clip slot difference.

“Tick over” aka IDLE. I had to re listen about 4 times before I realized he was calling idle “tick over” 👌👌
Excellent video. The one I’ve been looking for. Thanks for the excellent explanation
Very creative and clear explanation. 🎉🎉🎉
Best and easy to understand carb setting I´ve seen. Pluss, same bike I have. Thanks.

Excellent video - great explanations WITH examples of each adjustment. Thank you!!
Pilot (SJ) works with the air screw. You want the air screw to be at 1~2 turns out when the bike runs well.
Really great video. The air screw is only an idle air screw, right?
Going to grab those little tool-less air and idle adjusters for mine to easily stay after it. When you get outside your range it's time to change up.
Very nice tips, so understandable.
Some make explanations so difficult.
You sound like ya just want to help as quickly and understandably as possible to get us out riding.

No that is just what I use to wash the bike as I am still waiting for my air box cover from Twin Air 👍🏻
Awesome tips!

Say your clip was on 5th ring, what kind of needle would you replace it with? Just a more narrow shaped needle?
Best video plus explains perfectly thanks
This helps me so much actually super easy to understand 🤙🏻
Best video yet!
Crystal clear, thanks👍

What about american tape in your air filter??, it also affects to carb setting, because less air flow
Can you tell us about taping air filter?
No this is just what I use when I wash the bike as I am waiting on an air box cover from Twin Air 👍🏻
Hi Brad can you advise me what I should do, my power band comes in really sudden at high rpm?
Cheers and all the best
Were you using a paint brush to soap and scrub up the engine? That's absolutely brilliant
New subscriber here. Thanks for the content. Very helpful
Ciao Brad.. congts for the first race in italy great job👍 can you please indicate here the number of main jet and the jet needle serial used ?thank 🏁🏁
I’ve actually learnt so much in this video 😂
Glad to help mate 👍🏻😂
can i set up my jettings/needle first before doing the air-fuel screw mixture?

Do you check your sparkplug color when you are jetting your bike or only with the sound?
Yes check the spark plug too but you need to get the bike really hot to accurately check that 👍🏻
Brad Freeman ok thank you!
Is air screw affecting mixture in whole rpm range? Or only idle?
Only idle and just off idle as you begin to open throttle.
Thank you very helpful
Top video 👌 brad
i like my bike super lean but the piston always melt after just 2hours of riding, any suggestions?
Go richer LOL
Yeah …. defiantly richer .
