My first reaction when I was looking for proper carb adjustment on this vid was, "How can even this help me?" Now that I have an idea I say, "WOW THIS HELPS A LOT!"
I very much liked your boldness and use of engine tones that indicate the type of engine complaint, as if he were a doctor distinguishing the type of baby’s crying, whether it was hunger or a desire to sleep.
Dude you just saved me SO much time! I was misinterpreting my bike and thought the air:fuel ratio was too rich. I was going to spend all day tomorrow going down into smaller and smaller main jets in my carb trying to solve the bogging, but I would have been going in the wrong direction! Now I know what to do. Thank you so much!
Bro explained it better than the car videos I watched. I know it might be different for older cars but it’s helping me tune my carb on my gf Pontiac firebird. Appreciate you man
Shouldn't be different. Carbureted is carbureted, period. The only major differences in how some of them operate, is in the presence of absence of an accelerator pump. Acc pumps are designed to squirt an additional boost of fuel to mix with the sudden surge of available air when the butterfly snaps open and the venturi essentially becomes "unrestricted". The main jet can't supply enough gas quickly enough by itself to make sure that surge of air is at the proper AFR. But this information will apply to literally any gas engine that runs a carburetor as opposed to some variety of injection. Bike, boat, car, airplane, lawn mower, whatever. The base principles are the same regardless of the application. So any carb advice given in one specific application will generally be the same for any application. Cool that a bike video is able to help you with a car issue. 🙂
Just got myself a 2T scooter and was think the previous owner might have moded it and put the old stuff back on and sold it to me. It does start and run but it just really has no power and doesn't rev out really, but the "rev limiter" you're talking about is EXACTLY what I heard when revving it on the kick stand. No others have really talked about that side at all so thank you for putting this up
This video really helped me to realise my bog was due to fuel pressure. Oddly i think the low pressure caused it to run rich though, was guzzling fuel and popping and banging in the exhaust. Changed my in tank pump and filter as the brushes had broken down and fouled the filter bad. And then found my regulator was also stuck open. Went from 35 psi to around 48.
I gotta give you a super big thumbs up sir, of all the videos i've search and seen, super long videos they didn't satisfy me on how to do these things. Your video is so short but explains everything that i need and you explained it for us/me to understand it so quick, been tuning my carb since this morning and after i saw your video, it just took me like 5-10 mins and its done!!! Thank you so much!!! More power and God bless!
Bro its so very helpful with all your splendid explanations from the bottom of my heart ♥. You just Speak the whole language of my bike. Thank you so much and i already downloaded two of your videos. I was looking everywhere for a mechanic to fix my bike but i don't come across any. Fact is we do not have any bike specialists or mechanics around here in my Province and district as not many riders are here. Therefore, thank you Lord for you are just a pill 💊 to my broken 💔 heart ♥. Why im saying all these because as a person from the third world country, i hardly find such a rare person like you to explain everything with such of your body gestures and simply English. May God continue to inspird you with lots of wisdom out there. ...
The sounds you made finally helped me understand how to identify my issue. You made it so simple that even I who struggles not to drool on myself can understand.
this content is god tier. you just saved me so much time trying to guess whats happening based on everything ive read about carb tuning. the sound fx and gestures couldnt be more representative. thanks dude
@@MotocrossHideout oh it was just a saying! you know like above S tier haha. didnt mean to be disrespectful 😊 hey btw do you know how the hole number in the emulsion tube affects the carb seting? i came to understand every component and its effects but that one. i have from 4 to 32 holes for my carb and im pretty lost on the matter
it's a project bike. the carb is not stock so i dont have any default setting for my bike. i have to decide every setting by myself. hole quantity included. right noq everything is setted properly but i got bad throttle response, like lean bog when sudden throttle. i was hoping the right emulsion tube would fix that. i dont want to go for the acceleration pump
I don’t know if you will get to this comment soon enough, but I am completely stumped I have watched countless of videos worked on carbs my self never had issues, this video is absolutely perfect and helps a lot but my problem is completely reversed on how u explained in the video. The bike is a yz250f 2006. Brand new carb, carb is tuned on a warm bike absolutely perfect idol, starts up first kick no bog, no chasing idol, perfect snap on the throttle it cracks it to the rev limiter and back to idol instantly. It’s like there is no problem but as soon as you put it in gear and start going it’s normal up until 20% throttle and then it stutters/rev-limits no acceleration. I slow back down and it goes back to normal but once I get those moving gear rpms up again it’s like I have a new rev limit and stutters a shit ton. I pull in the clutch and can rip it back no problem sounds perfect put it in neutral it’s perfect! But 1st 2nd 3rd all the exact same thing I’m stumped. I tried changing the main jet size and re tuning the idol and air fuel mixture screw but nothing. Just me taking a carb off and on only to get the same result. If you can help any it would be much appreciated. Thanks
Hmm, hard to say for sure. Have you checked the TPS? Maybe that came loose/moved. Did you buy a new OEM carb or Chinese knock-off? Also, did the bike run fine before this happened? If so, what exactly did you change?
Thanks, this video helps a lot. I have a lectron on my 02 yz250 and it has a lean bog, but ONLY when it is first started up before it has heat in the motor. Once it warms up a bit and gets some fuel through the carb it rips through all rpms.
We'll not talk about how outrageously big the main jet was in my DR350 when I replaced the carb. It's still a little rich overall but with a little luck and patience I'll have it nailed soon! Thanks for confirming what I thought was my issue.
I bought a DRZ400, and your videos have been very helpful. Test riding it, everything seemed okay, but just in case, I have your terrific sound effects to go off of now!
My old 2-stroke Puch 50 used to do the lean bog thing with the stock pilot jet, but installing an Adjustable Pilot Jet fixed that, allowing me to fine tune it, giving rich when cold, lean when hot.
Damn, I've been tuning my moped when i noticed this problem after installing a quick throttle . Turns out it just has an outdated carburetor with no accelerator pump causing the bog when quickly opening at wot. Thanks to you I wouldn't be touching that carb more frequently.
Thanks for the pdf. I watch alot a tuning videos and it never matters because by the time i get out and start testing my mind goes blank and i get all the steps mixed up. The pdf is easier for people like me with the attention span of a goldfish on drugs.😊👍
I wish more people would drop their pride and make child-noises when explaining engine behaviour. It is wayyy more helpful for people to understand what's going on. Pro tip: also do this if you're taking your bike/car to a mechanic; you may feel like a goofball, but they'll be thankful for any description that helps them find the issue faster.
Some people don't have the ear to notice such differences on their own. Having it literally vocalized can help them actually hear and identify it when it happens.
Ty ! I tried telling someone this be they are one of those guys that try to figure out why I can’t fix it when I’m telling them y it’s going what it’s doing .
love the explanation but there is other possible problems because it can be also a bad pilot/main combinaison : The pilot jet can be too lean or the main jet (or both) It can be also too lean on pilot but too rich on main and inversion too rich on pilot but too lean on main
If it's getting that hot then it's probably too lean. Not sure what bike you have, but I would check for air leaks first - the intake boot/manifold could be cracked or the carb clamps loose.
I have a Lean condition, where when I give it full throttle it bogs and the engine feels alittle hotter then normal I really don’t wanna mess with the jets I think I have a lean fuel mixture but I’ll figure it out thanks for telling me
Learn how to easily tune the air/fuel screw in just a few minutes:

Honestly after all my years of working on engines, your explanations have made more sense than anything I’ve ever heard.
same to me 🤣
😊 This is actually very helpful, thanks for confirming the rich bog issue I'm having.
You're welcome, and thanks for watching!
Absolutely hilarious but very educational. Thanks!

We all need a man who understands engine language. Thank you for talking to us in braap, made perfect sense!
Couldn't have said it better.
Sound effects are really helpful to understand the differences, thank you!
Your rev limiter analogy made total sense. I'm not even working on a dirtbike, but am having carb troubles with a 67 bug and this video helped me.
Not a dirtbike rider but appreciated this video for my classic truck. Thanks man

Glad you think so - thanks for watching!
Thanks for be a humble human and simple sound explanation....💯
Big big help. Simple, to the point, and greate sound effects that actually made sense. 10/10
