People think that air bending is the weakest .. I beg the differ. Have you SEEN a tornado 🌪️? 😂. Also if air benders and fire benders choose to ally and combine their bending, imagine a 🔥 🌪️… crazy destruction..
One of the best thing is the characters' personality in ATLA. There's definitively, not bland, and unusual type in a cartoon generally. They are all flaws and this is what make them great and relatable too. In too much US cartoons, we saw bland ones and the same type of heroes. So, it was awesome at the time to see something new and refreshing.
There are a lot of other subbending arts alongside the standard 4 elements bendings. You will be introduced to a lot of them through the 3 seasons and the sequel the Legend of Korra too. There are ultimate form for each element.
Avatars master elements according to the cycle (Water-Earth-Fire-Air). First they master their "domestic" bending and then others.
So an Avatar from Earth Kingdom would master Earth bending first, then Fire, Air and Water.
This episode revealed Fire to be the most destructive element.
Notice that according to the cycle each Avatar either starts with Fire bending or masters at least Earth bending before learning Fire.
That makes them understand and control the element to not bring about destruction, but rather what they are supposed to bring - balance
It's actually fire, air, water, & earth in that order.
